[Q] Blobs on screen that only show when screen is dark? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I think I may have to return my Nexus under warranty, I am delighted with it as a tablet but have noticed I am getting blobs appear whenever the background is dark and especially on black backgrounds, I have taken a photo of them with the tablet turned off.

Anyone else experienced this?

I thought only amoled screens did this

It's probably the oleophobic coating coming off.

I will post a photo to show you what I mean as soon as I am permitted to.
I am surprised many people ever get past 10 posts on this forum having to type the image verification code every time and having to wait 5 minutes between posts and not allowed to post images or links!

Anyone got any ideas now photo is up?

Maybe from your case? My case gets little dust marks on my screen.

No, not dust, I have circled the 4 blobs in orange.

Like I said before, it looks like the oleophobic coating coming off. It's really strange that it would be coming off on a pattern like that... Is there a part of the case that has those 4 dots that could be rubbing on it?

I have something similar with my screen. It looks like a smudge fingerprint on the left side of the screen. I can wipe it off but it always comes back. I've tried soap, lens paper, water but it keeps reappearing after a few hours.

Checked and definitely no pattern like that on the case + when its closed it doesn't touch the screen anyway.

Just thought I would update on this, the problem didn't really get any worse but also didn't resolve so I have recently sent it back to Asus as it was nearing end of warranty period and they have put a brand new screen on now so a good outcome.

What to do when one of your HTC letters on back cover falls off.

Just do this.

It has some dust, but you get the point.
Looks nice, right?
LOL, that is PRECISELY what I suggested to someone who had the same question some time back.
BTW, it's a bit surprising to me the silver ring around your camera is perfectly intact. Mine started scratching and peeling off from one point just weeks after purchase (Where the ring rests on the surface where it is placed). (It is in a cover now 24x7, so, it no longer happens. Also the reason why the back letters are intact)

Well, I've had this Wildfire for a little more than 1 year, no guards/covers/cases/pouches what so ever since day 1 and it has absolutely no scratches on the screen/body (that line seen on the picture on the back "metal" isn't a scratch). Only the letters... The "T" came off today and I just removed the others, now it's unique, and good looking.
i dont get it

Fingerprint and face grease? Just wipe it off is all
Looks like fingerprint smudges.

Looks like face imprint, wash face, use a face lotion for oily skin, and wipe screen....
damp cloth with some dish detergent should take that off in a few seconds. Warm for best results.
I believe aliens are sending you messages. I can roughly translate it:
"Wash your hands"
Is it Jesus?
I think it's the Virgin Mary. :good:
I literally looks like a face smudge just wipe it off

It looks like they are under the screen. When I push it down, they get more dark but always remain there.

I have the same problem !
No seriously, I have the same problem ...
I just got the nexus and right out of the box (after peeling the plastic) I noticed the same thing... At first I thought it was the "peeling glue" but I couldn't get rid of it (I tried a fiber cloth).
The next day I took it to a local phone shop and they were surprised too, they tried different things and couldn't get rid of it....
I Googled it and found this post, I tried the detergent method (and yes it remove all my finger marks but those weird stains remained, I looked closely and it looks like it's bellow the screen itself, any one having the same issue and new suggestions?
Make as much fun as you want. I came across the exact same problem. I can't clean it off. I think they may have used a coating when making the screens and it is wearing off. That's why this happens.
OK so I called Google and they sent me a replacement device. You might want to look into that option.
somebody else found a solution i cant find the solution to this problem can u @ least tell me what to replace cause i dont have guarantee...?I can post a video about that stain btw...

Would glass work for someone with one eye?

Sorry if this seems a stupid question, but as the title says, I'm curious as to whether I could use Google glass as I only have sight in one of my eyes (my right eye)
Thanks in advanced to anyone replying, and I hope you're all enjoying your glass
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Yes. It's not stereo; the little prism display is only over the right eye.

Thanks very much! I wasn't sure on how much of the lens it took up, so I was wondering about whether I'd be able to see anything other than the display.
Thanks again!

of course ,only right side has a very little display now.
The prism is small and positioned to be on the periphery of your vision, so it doesn't block much at all.
If you're right-eyed, you seem to be in luck, because all the pictures of Glass I've seen are positioned on the right.
See this picture, only that small square is actual 'display', everything else is more or less a frame.

Maybe they're going to make left ones too, who knows.
Google has said that it is designed to display right at the edge of your vision so as to not block normal sight, but they are assuming stereoscopic vision. Looking at the pictures again, like the one above, I am a little concerned that Glass might block, or at least obscure, a good chunk of vital vision.

That's what I was worried about, I don't wanna splash out and get glass and then walk into the path of a bus or something lol.
I may message Google and see what they say!
Will post a reply here should I get one
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
There doesn't appear to be a way to message Google with my question as I don't have glass.
I'll just have to wait and see
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I'm in the same boat except I'm the unlucky one to only have sight in my left eye...
I'm really interested in Google glass but I'm guessing I'm probably going to be SOL... Hopefully they bring out a version for the left side...
Same here... I'm going to have to wait for the left eye version to come out the unit is designed asymmetrically, so it can't just be flipped over to the other side.

Xperia SP Deficiencies Thread

Hey I wanted a place where people can post deficiencies or malfunctions that can only be fix(or not) by returning your beloved Xperia SP. Here is mine, it looks white powder or speck under my screen that seemed to magically appear.

In my SP the lower left corner where you take off the back cover has lifted completely (not the cover itself, the internals lifted too), so there's like a 1mm gap between where the plastic cover sits and the aluminum frame
Tried to push it down but it doesn't budge (and I don't want to use too much strength or I might damage something else)
Also it doesn't look like any screw is loose
Really weird problem, hopefully warranty won't BS my about this, I never dropped or scratched the phone or anything...

Mine is like that too! I forgot to mention it. The bottom of the very cover is raised (not flush with the light bar)
The only problem I have is, the screen not waking up sometimes. Other than that everything seem to be normal.

Spontaneous cacked rear glass, Google warranty won't cover.

I placed my phone on a table today after arriving into a restaurant from the cold, and after a few moments thought to myself "what's that sound?", only to look to my phone and see that the rear had cracks spreading over its entirety. I then noticed there were a few grains of salt/sugar on the table where I'd placed the device. Now, I can't say for sure whether the cracking is down to the temperature change or the grains (though theses grains are clearly softer than the glass), but I can say with certainty that there was no impact.
After contacting Google's UK customer service, I've been told that any cracked glass issues are classed as user damage, regardless of the occurrence. I have seen similar reports around xda, suggesting the issue could well be down to a weakness in the rear glass.
I wonder if anyone had success in getting Google to issue a refund/replacement for this kind of problem due to manufacturing faults (which is all I can put this down to), or have suggestions on how to proceed with this.

There are replacements on eBay. They really aren't that expensive and it isn't that hard to replace the back.

Yeah, but it'll be hard picking out all the glass bits ._.

Op could carefully cover the back with tape before removing the back.
