Hello XDA
My Wife offically got the Orange Quick Tap Wallet app installed and working...i found it funny how it then installs a barclaycard app then after and its actually the barc app that does all the work, i then tryed taking the sim outs the phone and tryed in mcds and it worked
so the contactless quick tap sim orange make customers order isent needed aslong as once the barclaycard app is installed on your phone ...I am wondering if theres a way to get the barclayscard app from her stock galaxy s3 phone and transfer it over to my CM10 factory unlocked unbranded o2 Samsung Galaxy S3?
i now know its the barclays app that we all want, also the whole £50 customers are meant to get we both dontknow whos meant to give us the credit for her s3 atm
anyways exciting knowing there might be a way to get the barclay app off her phone and onto every other app
You could try to see if it installs a separate app and pull that apk file
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
no thats what i mean it has installed as a seperate app lol but i dontknow how to take it off the phone to try on a diffrent handset
do you have root? The best way to get it would be the app root explorer then you can see what app you need to take from /data/app

i how do i pull the apk file?
im dying to get this working and share with all, greedy networks trying to make out contactless sims and apps are need when all thats needed is this barclaycard app

Download the app root explorer from the market, its a paid app but you get 15 minutes to refund.
Once downloaded open it up and go to /data/app - look on the list of apps installed and find the one you think it is, long press it and go copy then at the top of the page press that button to go back two levels and then go to sdcard and paste it there.
from there you can use whatever app you normally do to access your sd and upload the file for all of us.
its all a ****ing marketing ploy to get u to think its all orange, when its not even the orange app thats does the work...all the orange app is there for is to then direct u to the barclaycard app lol total joke big time
I'm really interested to see if we can use this on other networks. I think it's silly that the technology is there for all to enjoy, but some company has decided better...
Do you know if it allows you to use any cards, or is it just barclaycards?
damn wife is now on a night out lol
iv downloaded the root explorer app but need her phone to get the app lol
ill report my progress in a few hours and with luck ill upload the file here on xda for all
yes it has allowed her to attached any card to the service
hers is a lloyds visa debit,
Did you say her phone was rooted? (I guess it will need to be to pull the app) It's rooted and this NFC payment app works still?
yes her phone was already rooted, just waiting to install root explorer onto her phone when i see her tonyt, then ill try it on my s3 and my nexus 7 tablet,
see iknow when using the orange app you need to turn off wifi cause its trying to read the network but once u then launch the barclaycard app u can use network or wifi hence at the time of using it with no sim we had no sim in and used wifi to connect and worked fine as before, im hoping to get this running on my rooted s3 with cm10 and am on the o2 network so it it works i think its safe to assume it will work for all...well lets hope so iv been waiting since forever to get google wallet here in the uk and so much for the olympics fail of no app i guess google will probs never release the google wallet app here in the uk kinda like how we may never get google music and proper google video google mags
anyways if this works from my experience of using it today it works perfect, the app it as good as it needs to be and incase you all wanna know its just a pre-payed card you top-up kinda like what google wallet had but hopefully they will replace that with just direct card payments soon,
i wonder when other networks will get there nfc wallet apps out, sucks i cant try this rytnow she wont be home until after midnight so i guess ill be up all nyt getting this working
Shouldn't she be in the kitchen doing the dishes?

iknow sad also probs play sum gears 3 tonyt or black ops zombies
Well I downloaded it from the play store after I put my orange sim in the s3 but it would not work. I looked on the orange site and they state there that you need a different SIM.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
lmfao!
the orange app yes but its the barclays app thats then downloaded thru the orange quick tap wallet app that is the 1 i am talking about...anyways shouldnt be too long and i can attempt to get this working on my cm10 o2 handset with any special type of sim
k guys iv been trying to do this for the first time...i have used root explorer and managed to find the apk file its 3mb and copyed and attempted to install on my s3 but during the installation it ends saying not installed
do i need to also find the app data from her phone aswell?

hey all... had my tab less than 24 hours. Someone was kind enough to break into my apartment today and steal my TAB and an Asus laptop. Any suggestions on a way I could track it? I didn't even have enough time with it to download a tracker app, so I know its a long shot..
go to the market from your friend's comp. market.android.com. login with the same account you use on your device and remote install plan b from lookout security. i know look out uses sms for phones to communicate with the location servers in the background. sgt doesnt have sms. it might work for your tab.. might not. worth a shot.

Did you use a credit card to purchase it? Some credit cards (My Amex does) gives you 90 days protection if lost, stolen or damaged as well as an extra year warranty. Just make sure you report it to the police along with the SN#.
yeah, im gonna file in the morning and call ole' Visa. Super bummer, I lost a loooooot of work docs.

also, because i did set up a gmail widget on the homescreen, I went ahead and sent myself a sufficiently angry email so it'll beep at whoever did it and they'll see it right there. I can only hope they see it before I change the password..

I would just like to double check if this is possible since I have never done anything like it before and don't want to risk my money.
But I found a place (Costco) that will sell me a Bell SGS2 unactivated and not tied to any account and I wanted to make sure that I can get far enough without a Bell SIM card to root it then using WiFi install the Market app to sim unlock the phone for use on Telus.
I am pretty sure I can but just would like to make sure that nothing strange like files get generated when Bell would first activates the phone, that I would not have. I don't even have any friends with Bell sim cards to use.
they're ready to go... nothing else gets added by Bell upon activation.
Thanks I was sure but since this is going to be my first time ever unlocking a phone or even getting a phone outside of a 3 year contract pricing I wanted to be sure.
The SIM unlock isn't garenteed to work, but it took about 1min to generate the codes, and worked perfectly first time for me!

CF-Root + Galaxy_S Unlock (market app, free) = Good to go for Bell/Virgin, took a few minutes total once I got mine home.
You will however, have an annoying yellow caution symbol on boot for a while.

Yep I have been reading a few threads and that was my exact plan.
I just wish I could of found concrete reports of Heimdall working under Linux for the SGS2 so I wouldn't have to drive to my mom's house to use Odin on her Windows computer.

I tried searching xda and even just Google but could not find anything stating that so either my search terms are bad or I just unlucky. Either way I will take you at your word and at least try. Hopefully I wont wreck anything before a good backup and learning the differences in backup/restore compared to my Motorola Milestone.
Just wanted to thank everyone for the input, it worked out fine. I flashed cf-root with Heimdall then SIM unlocked with Galaxy_S Unlock.
Now to play with the new phone.
Is there, or will there be a way to use google wallet on the non sprint S3s? With or without root or rom?
There has to be some info on this out there. Is Google Wallet just a gimmick or will this really take off? If so I would think AT$T and Verizon being bigger providers than Sprint, there would have to be the ability to get these to work with it.

there is info on this, if you search.
wallet is only support officially by sprint. the rest of the carriers you will have to find the modded apk for wallet.
(also, i hit the thanks button accidentally instead of 'quote' on your post, so free thanks for you!)
I searched, but anything that comes up is about Sprint having it and AT&T not...But at least I know that it will be possible at some point.
The question is if the At&t version has a secure element. If it doesn't, then there is no chance.

How do we go about finding something like that out? If they are wanting their version of the s3 to work with some other "google wallet" type system, it would seem it would have all the same requirements. I dont see them killing the ability completely, just had the software side removed. But who knows what these guys will do these days.
Att is developing their own system with some other carriers called ISIS. Probably not a chance to get Google wallet working on the att version.

EDIT: That only works on rooted devices, my bad
Having to root it is not a big deal, I just wanted to know it was possible to use it if the need came up. Right now I dont think NFC payments are big enough to consider a must have, but if the day comes that 8 of 10 shops use some sort of nfc payment system it will change my mind for sure. I just like to know that I can do something. Im sorta waiting to root as well Its running like a champ and everything that i use daily is working without a root. Once a nice easy one click is out that will not trip the counter I will go for it, or if some app or ability that I just have to use requires it. But just enjoying the phone for now as is
I am rooted still doesn't work on i747 just hangs on activating

Maybe now that so many are getting this phone we will see some work being done to figure this out.
to get it to work you will need to fudge the phone into thinking it's connected with Sprint using Market Enabler or equivalent. That's I had to do on my G Nexus in canada.
so, for some reason, i installed it, it loads but i get this message, and just stopps.
"Initializing your device. this make take a few min...... blahh blahh.. "
thats it..
Worked for me on Canadian sgs3...
I'll try post instructions for it tomorrow evening.

You get $10 for signing up, but to re-charge it you need a US based payment card (which I don't, of course). So there was no way to add more money on it.
I think Paul (modaco) did find *one* way around it, but I didn't try it...

The wallet application is in N7, just got frozen when the sign in of the device is in uk. Same for magazine app and sound search widget. If your device is rooted and have titanium backup, they can all be defrosted. No good for wallet app, though, as there's no terminal in the UK to use it; opening the app will say it's not supported in this region.

I posted this guide last night. I haven't purchased anything yet but I do have Wallet configured and with the free $10 credit
And here is a guide for topping it up outside the US.
This is my first time having an NFC device, so please bear with me. I rooted my phone the evening I received it. Now I'm trying to set up Google Wallet, and it says that my device is unsupported. In the help topic regarding this message, it mentions something about rooted devices being unsupported due to security reasons, can I still use this feature? Is it discouraged in any way?
If anybody has some insight or experience with this, I'd like to know.
I have the evo lte rooted with same unsupported device message, yes it will still work

The reason it is discouraged is because anyone (with the now-how) can brute-force access your pin if your phone is rooted. And then skip away making payments on goodies.

Plenty of you fly to Japan and China, they have been using it for years. You can try looking up PayPass mechant, such as this link: http://www.google.com/wallet/how-it-works/in-store.html
So it doesn't have to be specifically for google wallet? They work on the things like the speedpass at speedway or your creditcard where you just tap it to the machine and it gets your infO?

Awesome! Looking forward to trying this out in the next few weeks. Hope I remember to try it when I see it...
I tried to use this at Walgreens today. They had the translucent blue PayPass terminal. I sat there for about 30 seconds and nothing happened. I even tried to enter the app and still nothing. NFC was on, and my card is attached in Google Wallet.
I think I set up wallet, then unlocked and rooted, then had to re-set up Wallet. Am I doing something wrong? The clerk was staring at me like I was crazy, just holding my phone next to the terminal....

I had that happen at Taco Bueno. And a McDonalds. But at some McDonalds it works. I think that so few people use this system that when its broken no one complains. And its probably never even tested when they set it up.
Typically you can just tap your phone to the thing (no need to be in the app). It'll prompt you for a PIN. Then you can pay.
If it's not working you may have a poor data connection? I think it requires data to work.

I'd still say it's more secure than that. Anyone can swipe a card and charge it as credit. Relatively few people would know how to brute force hack google wallet on a rooted device.
Everyone.
Google wallet does not require a data connection.
If its not working , I read on the wallet website to "hold it about an inch" from the terminal. Without placing it on the terminal. Try to see if that works.

Yeah mine didn't work at the gas station the other day, though I didn't log out of Google Wallet before I flashed a rom and rooted recently so some say that it'll never work again after that because of the secure element getting locked or something like that. Hopefully that's not true.
I've flashed and reflashed a lot. All you need to do is delete the data, connect to high speed internet like WiFi, then open it up. Worked for me.
