Haret won't boot into Linux - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

EDIT: FIXED, root folder was wrong name. Mod can delete this
Hello,
I am trying to install Android via SD card to my friends HD2. Whenever I run Haret, I get a black screen with a few lines of text and then it boots back into WinMo 6.5. I have the newest radio. I tried this with another Android build, and it was mostly the same effect.
I looked around in the forum and cant find anything. Anybody know what to do?

actually finding out what it's looking for in the card is the key for fixing the problem.. like for example, if it's looking for the rootfs.img, then that means it's looking for the wrong folder and/or you have to edit your boot parameter to correct it or move certain files to the folder to get it working correctly.. so make a note of what it's looking for when you boot it up again and then come back here and let us know to get a better response on how to fix your problem
It's booting that there is no Rootfs.img in the SD but i checked it, even tried putting new rootfs file and deleting the old one... same thing happened. I can only get into Android on First boot any after that it gives me no bootfs.img in SD error ...
I'm having the same problem. I have tried restarting immediately after booting into linux without loading any apps and I have tried downloading apps. It will always boot correctly the first time and then it will freeze at Root.fs
One Solution I found is that when you go into the SD card and delete the Android folder it works again... so far there is no harm to anything yet, all you do is delete the android folder then restart haret file again and you are back into your android OS with everything saved the way you left it... must be something in the startup files in a lot of these builds. anyways if anyone knows how to fix it without deleting the android folder please let us know.

hmmmm.. why do you have to delete the Android folder?? what android build are you using?? where did you extract the Android build on your card?? is the haret.exe and clrcad.exe inside the same folder as the initrd.gz, rootfs.img, data.img etc??? one way to find out is make sure you extract the "Android" folder on the root of your microSD card.. also, make sure that there's no subfolder named "Android" inside the "Android" folder, as i know some build compresses the Android folder inside another android folder or sometimes inside the folder of the builds name.. also, copy and paste your startup here so we can see what folder is it looking for on your android build.. because, if you're getting the can't find the rootfs.img error, it means that it's searching for the wrong location or the haret.exe is not inside the android folder or in the same folder as your rootfs.img and initrd.gz etc..
Are u running directly off root? I think the builds you are running are expecting to run within an android directory off root?

The problem is very easy. When you have the USB cable connected on an active connection to the PC, most WM-roms will not show the storage card on the phone itself. Try a normal powersource, not a computer, and it should work just fine.
Right now i was looking for a plugin/hack so the storage card stays visible even though there is a computer-connection. I know some roms do this, but can't find the individual files to do so.

Your English skillz are good dude. Did you try to format your SD card and copying a fresh Android build back over and starting again?
Yes i did, crisisinthecity! But nothing.
the strange thing it's that android loads and when finishes and makes data.img, the phone shutdown it self.
I have seen that in the SD there is a file of windows mobile, a sort of encryption's file, every time i formated my SD and copied on it the android directory when i loaded android at the next reboot (after the shutdown) i saw this file on the root of the SD.
please anyone know this problem?
Thanks.
Nobody can help me?
please.
Do you have a different storage card you could try? Everything works fine in Windows?
yes, i've 2 SD card, one class 4 and class 2. I tried with both, the result it's the same!
yes, on windows everythings works.
when i run clrcad.exe i run it with lights on and then tap to haret.exe! i think it's correct. i flash all my roms after task29, all my roms work correctly on my device and have no problems... I've no more ideas!
It all started when the phone is off with Android.
Now i'm trying to re-flash vbnrom and mdeejay froyo sense 2.4 but i think it isn't a rom's compatibility problem.
Hi guys, I solved my problem to run Android!
It was a stupid problem... now is perfect! I post the solution in case someone else had the same problem.
As you know there are two ways to load wm rom:
the first is via USB, the second is directly load the rom on sd and flash it from your phone without pc.
Both are successful but with a BIG difference (for me)...
If use usb method to load the rom, it created the file data.img but did not run the build of Android.
The wm rom works perfectly but android NO.
I solved it by putting the rom on sd and flash it from the phone.
Thanks to everyone for the help!

If you would have taken 5 seconds to read other posts instead of just jumping in and cluttering up place you would have found your answers.
Firstly some builds create teh data.img (internal storage image) for you during initial boot so it can take some time and is going on behind the htc logo, previously you would see all the white text running down screen etc, teh logo covers this up now. This can be solved by putting a blank or your backup up data.img file in the "Android" or renamed build folder so it doesnt have to create one.
This can also happen if there has been a problem creating the files on your sdcard. This can solved by properly formatting your card using a windows mobile app or a windows app here. Make sure FULL format and ERASE is ON.
The stuck at logo can also happen if you dont have a compatible windows rom/radio but since you have previously been using android thsi wont be the issue.
O sorry . stupid me!
But it is working.
I am running now on JDMS 1.6 but my contacts aint added.
And i copied them on my sim , only it says : No Contacts on SIM
Thanks for the info

Andriod on HD2 frustrations!!!????

Hello All,
I have been trying to put this android on my hd2 without success. I have the AmericanAdroid build. I have Rom 3.14 or somthing like that on my phone currently and radio 2.15 or something.....When I push the CLR thing and HARET it starts to load with little white letters on the top left.....it starts for about 5 secs and then goes to the green HTC logo.....
Now someone told me that it is creating somethings in the background and it would take about 5 to 10mins.....well it has been about 25 mins......and I think it is just stuck.......can someone please help with this.....this is so frustrating....because I am tired of WM becuase all the best apps are for android.......please help!!!!!!!!!???????
If you don't like WinMo at all just go to Nand Android. If you can flash an RUU you can get it on Nand pretty easily. Then you never have to look at the silly WinMo again.
Sometimes you just have to try again, if it is stuck on green htc, pull the battery and start over. If that doesn't work you could try reformatting your SD with the panasonic formatting tool, don't forget to backup everything first. Or at last maybe some files from the zip got damaged, you could try re downloading the ROM. I'm using the same build and runs excellent.
how much space are u having on ur sd card??? because d americanandroid requires about 1.5gig of space to run ...
When you have a problems like that you just go wipe winMo off your phone and use my guide to install Nandroid (Ultimate Droid if you ask me)
Does american build create a data image? Or did you supply one with it, or it came with one? If it creates one, then delete the unfinished one, look at the startup txt to see how much space is required, eg.data_size=512, means you need more than 512 worth of space, if you do have it then retry to run the build.
If you supplied one with it or it came with one, redownload the build, and replace the old one with the new one, or you can try insert a data img from another similar build, a fresh one I mean.
AmeriCanAndroid creates a data.img on first boot. The default is 1gig.

[Q] Haret not working for HD2

On my HTC HD2, I have tried to get haret.exe to work for both Ubuntu and Android, but whenever I boot it up, it just soft resets the phone. I have tried a different SD card and it doesn't seem to change so if anyone knows what the problem is please tell me.
Did you install HSPL 2.08 at least and flash the latest radio rom (2.15.50.14)?
^
True ...
you also have to set the correct path in the text file. don't know the name anymore. but just if you didn't put your rom image in another folder than the one mentioned in the corresponding rom thread. shouldn't get problems if you have hspl, radio and the correct path to your build.
