Hey everyone, for various reasons I'm looking for a bricked Sprint Epic 4G to buy. If you have one I'll cover shipping and take it off your hands. I'm on a bit of a time deadline. I know this might be a strange request but hey, I've never claimed to be normal
Thanks in Advance.
I'm selling a working one. I could probably hit it with a hammer or install I OS 6 on it or something

nope not possible, but this thread is asking for a bricked phone.
Is flashing that the best way to brick an Epic 4g? Off the top of my head I cant think of a way to brick it on purpose unless I did something stupid like try to install iOS

A fully bricked Epic certainly is a rare occurrence in the wild... I only remember hearing about issues with that one twilight kernel in the froyo days, and some mention of a bonsai beta (the sad thing about the bonsai incident was that those users had to pay to get that brick-maker...)

Wow, if you're sure it can be done easily from the Nexus S dump then it must be true. Someone who can make a statement like that must have the expertise to whip up some drivers for our CDMA radio, wimax, and all the other stuff that is different in the Epic from the Nexus S. Let me know when all this "pretty easy" work is done so I can flash it.

I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure Samsung is tired of being shown up by a bunch of dev's on a forum who don't get paid for what they do. I'm not worried though because even if they go to a locked bootloader, give it a week or two and someone will find a way to unlock it or just get around it. I have full confidence in the dev's here...
This is a leak for the International version of the Galaxy S....this might not mean anything for us just yet...
At least it's a start. Given that the International versions got their Froyo in November (?), maybe we'll get ours in roughly 3 months after that due to conversions to CDMA and all the other stuff our unique Epics have.

With Moto already locking bootloaders and HTC fiddling with the idea, I think a lot of people in the scene are a bit concerned.
I can totally see the entire hobby marginalizing itself to Nexus devices some day. It's not like any major vendor is going to step up just to appeal to a tiny community of hackers any more than carriers are stepping up to make their networks strong enough for that 2% of customers sucking up bandwidth. :/
How can they legally lock the bootloaders? Wasn't it ruled that once we purchase these devices, they're OURS and we can hack/root/jailbreak them all we want?

Yes but they can develop it as they see fit and put any protections they want in. What was decided was its legal to break their protections.

No offense to the devs, but does it really make a huge deal if its gsm/cdma? I know the difference between the 2 networks.I've had the epic since nov. Or dec. ,and coming from the htc hero the devs in that forum kicked ass(no offense to the ones here).but I noticed they'd make roms for the htc hero(cdma) from gsm roms.I belive they even got gingerbread fully working for that phone, haven't checked.sorry if it sounds like I'm pissed or something, not pointing fingers.really appreciate the work y'all done for this phone, for real.

yes it will since its the same phone, only minor cosmetic changes. OS/Firmware will be the same.
No, it will not be the same.. you will need a custom kernel that supports the 4 touch buttons on the front and is able to boot an I9100 rom. This is how they did it on the Captivate with I9000 roms.. Just be patient and wait for devs to try it before you flash your phone into an unusable state...

The Mesmerize has a different forum from the fascinate.
since upgrading a while ago to my current Galaxy Nexus, i checked my Desire HD before getting ready to sell it off, and discovered while it was sitting gathering dust, at some point it died.
I've researched a bit, and found it has the "7 vibrations" behaviour upon trying to boot. I'm happy with my galaxy nexus, soon to be replaced with a Nexus-4, and i loved the Desire HD the whole time i had it. it was a good run.
So if any one could use the spare parts, or clever enough to un-brick it and get even more use out of it, i'm offering it up to a good home.
Just respond with your interest, and maybe a little about why you want it, especially if you're a Dev as i'd love for it to go to the most useful person that benefits the community as a whole. I'll give people a week to respond, then i'll choose the candidate i feel best serves the greater good
Enjoy !

Why everybody is stating that their devices are bricked? a brick is lifeless and so should be the device. A messed bootloader should not be fixed by flashing a RUU. That can definitely bricked the device.
Messed bootloader have been a big issue since the GB update. Fix for it can be found in the guide in my signature, thou does not work for all devices and bootloaders.
