Hey all wondering if there is a usb to go flash drive available so no need for an adapter to use a flash drive on the nexsus 7. If so anyone got a link. Also have google enabled it on stock rom yet or do you still need to root the device and install custom rom to use a flash drive. ( installing custome rom not an issue just curious) Looking at buying very soon but bit concerened there is not enough storage space. Cheers
No idea on the flash drive but you need root with Stickmount or Nexus Media Importer.

I bought a brand new 64gb flash drive to use with my nexus 7 but while it works fine initially in windows it then shows up on the n7 as 'damaged usb stick'. Then when i plug it back in pc it requests reformatting.
I have successfully been using a 4gb flash drive on the n7 with stickmount though.
So it it possible my brand new flash drive is corrupt or are there limitations with n7 and stick mount that make it very 'hit and miss'?
Anyone else had similar issues?

Hi guys, i know that you problably answered these questions several times already, but i couldn´t find a exact match for what i want to do.
I have an OTG cable and a 4 port USB hub that i´m using for tests. I´m using stock 4.2 and stock kernel.
1- I´d like to add a flash drive or a external usb hard disk as a default storage device, is there any way to do this without external apps? like the N7 had microSD support? I saw a topic where some user was able to do this, but i can´t find it. Can i install games and everything if i do this? None of my FAT32 cflash drives were recognized. NTFS drives paragon NTFS mounted but it was not recognized by system in storage options.
2- Overclock using SET CPU will work as usual even using stock kernel? Which settings do you recommend me to use?
3- As you can see, i´m a noob considering the rooting possibilities, which more do you recommend me to do to fully use the potential of my Nexus 7, i use it mainly for playing games and emulators, surfing internet and watching movies. The only thing i did was modifying the script to run XBOX360 wireless controller perfectly. Any recommendations to rooting i will be very grateful, thanks!

I'm trying to copy some files from the phone to the computer but it seems impossible through MTP.
What other methods you can use to transfer files?
I had to use adb pull command to pull all my data before i unlock the bootloader. I'm assuming that custom ROMs will let you connect the phone as an external storage device but what about people who don't/can't install custom rom? Do they have to live with those slow MTP speeds while transferring something to the phone?

i had that issue with a GS3 and someone told me to try a different usb port on my computer. so i did and everything transferred much faster like it should.

I tried everything and the only way i could get adequate speed was from adb.
I'm wondering why google didn't include external storage as an option to connect (in 4.2.2, i assume it's a software feature) like there is in some other phones that does not have sd card slot.
I don't think anything can fix MTP. It's so slow, that I have to use adb to transfer Clockworkmod backups.
I hate MTP so much.
The reason there's no mass storage option is because the geniuses at either LG or Google decided it was a good idea to make external storage a folder in /data/ rather than have a dedicated /sdcard/ partition.

An earlier version of Directory Opus (sorry, the trial expired and I did not note the exact version) seemed to do a good job of transferring files from the Nexus to the PC (Win 7), but when I tried it on another computer and it no longer worked (transfer stopped before it actually completed).
I tried the following and it worked for me:

Use the patch that is suitable for your rom.
install StickMount, connect the usb otg cable to portable drive (in my case a seagate 320 GB Freeagent), the power, and then the phone.
The drive is mounted under /sdcard/usbstorage/sd1
You may need the ntfs-3g file from Chainfire's site.
Transfers were at 7 to 8 MBps from the Nexus to the portable drive [NO PC/Windows involved]. This is better than MTP and DirectoryOpus [when it worked] which was at around 4MBps.
The other option is to use SuperBeam app.
DirectoryOpus might work, but you probably need the right combination of MTP drivers, DirectoryOpus version and Windows version.
Hi, I'm trying to access a USB storage on my nexus 7, got a few different apps but nothing. Does the nexus have to be strictly rooted in order for it to work? Or can i do it on stock? Im stock btw.

There's a Nexus Media Importer app that will let you read from USB storage through your OTG. But if you want read and write capability, you'll need to root your device and use a root level app like Stickmount.
Hello all,
I just rooted and patched to 4.4 on my nexus 10. I have been trying for 3 days to get it to let me use usb external storage and to no avail. I have tried stickmount and i can get it to mount the usb but when I use file manager it shows up but the folder is empty, and wont let me copy anything to it either. So then I tried nexus media importer it looks for the device then fails. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong I can get stickmount to work with 128mg stick, 4g stick, and 1g stick but when i try a larger one it loads it but the folder is empty, any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Have you tried attempting to activate the new file picker implemented in KitKat? I was wondering if this would support OTG functionality.
