LOVEFiLM on Amazon Kindle Fire HD - Galaxy S III General

Now it has been announced that the new Kindle Fire will play streaming content from LOVEFiLM, what do you think are the chances that they will release an app in general for Android, or that some clever soul will be able to extract the app and release it for us? Would love to access the content on my SGS3.

Lovefilm are saying it isn't coming to general Android before the Kindle launch or at the Kindle launch.

I'm not sure of cross-compatible the app will be.

Content from Nook/Fire

I was thinking of buying one of these for my nephew, he currently has a Nook tablet. I was trying to figure out if all the content he currently has on there would be easily re-downloadable to the Nexus 7 with the Nook app. I just wasn't sure if Amazon or B&N had any content that was only available on their devices and not available through their apps for other Android devices.
I could be wrong, and if I am hopefully someone here will correct me, but my basic understanding is that any apps & magazine subscriptions purchased through the B&N store are not available through the Nook App, but books & single issue magazines are.
With Amazon, all content should be available through the Kindle & Amazon Store apps, as long as they weren't Fire-only apps.
The other complication would be if older apps are incompatible with 4.1 Jellybean, of which I don't know.
just use calibre program to change all his books from the nook format to kindle fire format which is mobi. and install the kindle fire app on the nexus 7. Thats what im gonna do, but im just transfering my kindle books.

I figured they did something to try and limit as much as they could to their specific devices to discourage people from moving on to better/different devices. Thanks for the info.

Reverend Kyle's Video Series for the Amazon Kindle Fire

I thought I would share this with the XDA Kindle Fire Community as well.
I've had my Amazon Kindle Fire for a while now, and I've decided it was time to see what kind of modifications I can load onto it. Since I have a Google Nexus 7 on its way, I imagine that a Kindle Fire loaded up with Jelly Bean might make for a decent comparison tablet.
In part 1, I started off by rooting my Kindle Fire and installing the Google market, or Play Store on it using the Kindle Fire Utility.
In part 2, I take it a step further by installing Teamwin's TWRP Recovery, and then using it to install Energy's CM9 ROM.
And finally, in part 3, I go for the gusto and load up Hashcode's Jelly Bean ROM. Very slick.
Overall, I am impressed with the Jelly Bean performance on the Kindle Fire, and I look forward to seeing it battle against my Google Nexus 7... once it gets here.
Please direct your comments and questions toward the REVTV Forums. I've created a brand new section specifically for the Amazon Kindle Fire and this new video series.
Enjoy!

Fire OS 4.0

Amazon have release the new fire os 4.0 with the new kindle fire hdx 8.9.
Fire os 4.0 is based on android 4.4.
Do you think we will get this update as well?
According to an article over at arstechnica, we will (http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014...k-new-e-reader-beefed-up-hdx-tablet-keyboard/ ).
"Along with the new Fire tablets comes a new version of Amazon's "Fire OS," dubbed 4.0 "Sangria." Sangria is based on Android 4.4 KitKat and has little more than user-experience refinements. These include ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction), which pre-loads content that Amazon predicts the user will play, as well as Smart Suspend, which detects when the tablet is not in use and turns off the Wi-Fi to save battery. The new version of the OS will ship on all 4th-generation Fire tablets and will be available to 3rd-generation tablets as a free over-the-air software update."

And if you read a little further, it says:
Amazon will continue to offer the Fire HDX 7 for $199, though it will not receive the 4.0 Fire OS update until "later this year."
So hoping that it comes sooner rather than later.
Won't be taking that update most likely. Gotten used to having Google services on my hdx and won't risk losing it until I know for sure if there's root
According to ever article I read, we'll absoultely get it. "In the coming weeks". Exciting!

You can already get it on the HDX 7.

Kindle app won't update

I have Google Play installed on my Kindle Fire HD 8 6th gen, and it shows a nice update available, but it won't update. The Amazon app store doesn't show any updates.
Is there a workaround, or do I just have to wait for Amazon to release an update?
I'm surprised that Amazon doesn't provide the update.
Suggestions?
Apparently Amazon has loaded a slightly different version of the Kindle app on Kindle Fire tablets, so the play store version will not update it. No idea why they did that.
It also frustrates me to no end that the Kindle app on Kindle Fire tablets cannot be locked in portrait orientation, while the Kindle app on every other android device can.

Fire HD (2020) - App Pinning / Guided Access?

Has anyone tried any of the new 2020 Fire tablets to see if they have finally implemented app pinning (guided access in IOS parlance).
We've had Fire tablets in the past and they are completely useless for children, despite selling Kids versions, as they can easily switch from whatever app they are using to something random.
Just a quick bump. Someone must own one of the new Fire tablets to check this?
The HD 8 Plus does have App Pinning as an option. I would assume that means the 2020 HD 8 has it, as well.
Thanks JT, I discovered the answer by buying one.
The problem isn't as bad as I expected as they've hid the square app launcher instead.
Am a little confused by your comments above. I can only assume when you tried the kindles before that you didnt have the Kids mode enabled? Both of my Niece and Nephew have Older Kindle FIre devices (admittedly kids editions) and i always thought they seemed to be locked down well.
When in the childs profile they can only access the apps and stuff allocated to them. And all of the content is curated by Amazon to be age appropriate and no costs/in game charges if using the kids fire subscription (free for first 2 years then Amazon Kids + is £1.99/Month if you are a Prime Subscriber).
Having the kids tablets on this has meant that we can be confident they aren't doing anything they shouldn't and are protected from the worst the Amazon and Google stores have to offer.
