The best thing about xda is the vastness of knowledge, profound by any means ,, so my suggestion is why cant we all together[I mean who use xda and x10 (still seriously)]share our knowledge and then whole community can be the developer.
Its like, you know how to do, he knows how to pack..... Or atleast we could all learn!
There are still many threads teaching and stuff but none to actually and mutually promote learning!
I have been following this forum since long and am pitching just when everything looks dull, hope I find the right frequency.

but im not gonna buy a new phone
same here "I dont want my device to stagnate"
I just bought few books about android building and stuff,, I really dont know where to start but took a clue from champ's ultimate guide!! It ll take time I am pretty sure!
But I wont let it just stagnate

Hi,
this is a good idea, but we have a Thread from Champ.
In this Thread is all clear and very helpfull..
I can personal help out with problems, builds, fix issues....
Only Kernel cooking is not my lovely stuff..
But i must personaly say...the performance is finish.
We can not more give..we have not enough RAM.
:crying::crying:we must accept that the time is more and more to end..with our GREAT x10:crying::crying:
but i will always help
First thing, can we have all that we got to achieve,, I mean some sort of goal, this could make work focussed.
It would be like, ics bug free... Or try (realllly hard) to get a jb! How much ever buggy, god am already dreaming!

I think sommthing big is coming. It's been a week since anything big even roms! Im confident in this community and yesterday there was an unlocked boitloader topic that was removes because it gave to.much info. How often does that happen. I didn't get t read through all of it because once I was done with page one it said it no longer existed. Im super excited let's rejoice

I been jizzed changed and rejizzed again. I think the reason with the holding back of info is for the bounty. Hopefully im right and that's why and im.not wrong and notta damn thing going on

This is weird.. -_-

One of the reasons it has been quite is because there is an update soon. Kind of pointless to make a rom (or new version of an existing one), and have to redo it again to make it work with the new update.
Also that topic was deleted because the op was posting an IM convo that the developer didn't want being made public. It didn't really prove anything conclusive.
It also doesn't help that devs have to make a bunch of worthless posts like this one so we can reply our post in the dev area.
I have info for 2 different threads in there, but since I'm too new, I can't respond. Eventually, I'll get the minimum junk post quota done, and can tell them what the nvflash method described will and will not do. Till then, I'll just keep playing around silently...
Your right but even after the Op deleted the convo the whole.thread was removed. Im just saying a hint of optimistic outlooking

There is nothing wrong with optimism, I agree; however, until there is an actual way we have to be careful because they don't want moto finding out and then quickly fixing it.
The real risk is moto blocking methods we use to gain root, or to back flash to an older SBF...

Have you tried talking to the devs on irc? They're still hard at work just not posting on the dev section because it all gets jumbled and messy

drock212 is correct, the devs are hating the dev subforum at the moment because of all the useless posts and information. If you jump on IRC and STAY QUIET UNLESS YOU HAVE SOMETHING USEFUL TO SAY you learn a lot about whats going on, as well as learn some new things about how your phone works. That's what I've been doing for the past few weeks and it's helped a lot.

First things first, I will go ahead and introduce myself to the world of xda. I am 24 years old, stable job and steady income. I'm currently in the beginning stages of what may formulate into my future career. Android developement. I have so many questions to ask. But first things first. Do I need to know java? I seem to discourage myself from making any real progress with programming mostly because I feel out of touch with the community.
I have never been one to stick with forums. Though now I intend to truly participate within this community now. I already use eclipse with the android sdk. But my real question here is, do I need to know Java? Thanks. I hope that I can become a great addition to the community and hope to participate and contribute as well.

Java is a Major part of Android Development... I'd get as used to it as possible.
well, i cant be of much help in terms of telling you what to learn/do, but i will say a pre-thanks. I love these forums and they wouldnt be possible without all the developers. so good job
as for developing.. well.. i bet there's probably an app for it lol. or an e-book
good luck!

depends what your config is, don't accept the recent OTA's if you haven't yet. www.unrevoked.com is all you need to know for rooting.
Yeah unrevoked was really easy. Now I am a flashaholic, and you will be soon too, lol.
A great place to start is to read the stickies and faq's, rather than posting a whole new post to ask something that's already been asked thousands of times.

This forum is actually for general discussion. The Q&A forum is for help. Though I suppose help can qualify as "general discussion" it's still pretty disingenuous to think that this forum is more suited for helping than the Q&A forum is.
One thing I've found is that people that don't want to put any effort into doing research/experimentation themselves (before asking for help) are the ones that tend to end up with broken phones or just really weird phone issues because they simply follow directions without having any understanding of what they're actually doing.
So ultimately you are burning yourself, but not necessarily in quite the same way as implied in one of the above messages.

by burned yourself, he meant that people are even less inclined to help you now, but you are being a child if you expect a person to type the whole process of rooting just for you on this thread because you are too lazy to read the dam stickies wich already explain it far better and in much detail, its on you friend....next time if you want people to help you, dont act like a spoiled brat

yes..it's the post that i said..poor people..copy the work of others..
sorry my bad english
One thing I don't understand. Paul has deleted everything about his ICS developement from XDA. OK, but with this he only made bad thing to the XDA community, noth for the thiefs. I'll explain: they've got the source now, so they can make their roms, and if they make the ICS for lowend phones complete, then they can say: its their rom, because there will be not any written logs here on XDA from Paul... we don't want that. SO. Instead of deleting everything, why not the XDA community holds together and earn to erase those damn little pests from the surface of the earth that stole the WORK OF A REAL DEVELOPER.
I understand paul's step, but I think it can be solved another way. No matter what, I stand beside Paul! Good luck, and next time just give an oppurtunity to XDA to help you. Thank you.

Understand your frustration - all of those with the bad luck of having or OTA'ing to MF3 are going bonkers. . .Really don't have any clue since this appears to be one of the truly hard fixes (oops... exploits) to find.
As to friendly Android folks, well actually there are. Even here . OK, you are right that XDA is different. Some threads are rather prickly and if you jump in with a "stray" comment they jump in and flame and complain.
But other threads are more mellow; and you can see the same, same, same, same, same, same, same, same, question asked again and again and someone will politely (more or less) answer these queries or refer the questioner to the right spot. . . So, that's not unusual. (sorry, the hot/repeat question these days seems to be . . . .MF3 ETA! :crying
But all this in not unique to Android. In the Apple support pages, which I frequent every now and then for my MAC issues, I found some rather brusque replies and non-helpful at that! It's not a function of OS. . .it's people and organizational/group culture.
XDA is a real mix of intense, "bleeding-edge" developers and users, who push their software and hardware in very dynamic ways, but who also can be edgy -and not in a good way.
XDA also has "normal" folks, who drop in for help, or add something they like and (unfortunately) sometimes even want to share it with others .
Finally, XDA has people (some with surprisingly high numbers of posts!) who have hardware or software problems and need help, but are also clueless. Sometimes folks in this last group are in need of help AND they are impatient or even demanding of the reply posters. . . that's kind of not a good approach!
I guess that makes XDA sort of like real life, it all depends upon who you meet!
There is no doubt that XDA can be a bit off-putting if you don't connect in the right way for the particular thread. but is that happens, don't worry about it! The next thread will be more helpful or understandable, or maybe even friendly . . .
Good Luck

There are plenty of nice people dankify... I'm one of them. But when I saw the title of this thread, my mind instantly went "uh oh".
It's something most of us had to learn on XDA, and it's usually the first lesson. Never ask for ETAs for anything. Never ever ever. There are some that get very bent about it, and in some cases understandably so, since everything done on here is done by donation and lots of thankless free time.
I'm no coder, I'm a leech, so I just try to help out where I can. I'm waiting for the MF3 bootloader unlock too, and it'll come. We just have to watch the forums and be patient.
Also, welcome to Android. I think you're going to find that you like it here, this one bump in the road aside
I appreciate it. Ya I'm so glad to have gotten rid of my crapy apple. Am able to do so much without mods that was needed on the iPhone to even do some. Can't imagine how cool it will be to get a custom rom. Hopefully soon
