Yes. Had the issue last night. Only when trying to download and auto install. If i install from the filesystem, it does fine. Btw, for questions like this to be best answered, list what rom and kernel you are on. The more info, the better.
The graph on there is defintely not giving an accurate representation, or the numbers are way off. If its an 8gb, youll only have about 6gb of usable user memory space. The rest is used or reserved for the system.

Do you have any CWM backups? Starting with 6.0 CWM stores your backups differently than before and simply deleting them through something like Root Explorer doesn't clear everything out.
Go into CWM>manage backups and delete any you don't need, them run a new backup. I did this and cleared up over 4GB of storage.

Not using cwm ... No back ups. Again, i have gigs of storage available... i cleared data from a few large apps, uninstalled 100+ mb of apps, rebooted, cleared cache & dalvik cache in recovery.
I searched odex files...TiBU was only odex in data folder, deleted it, restarted. Nothing.
I tried the lucky patch "fix" ... still nothing. Grrrr

Do you have ES File Explorer installed? If so, go to menu>manage>SD Card Analyst. See what it says.
Seen this as well with auto install. Turn it off and try manually doing it.

*Bump* ... this is really frustrating. I'm not sure what I've done.
I keep getting "insufficient storage" when trying to install or update some apps. (YouTube & Google Drive won't update, I can't install Slacker Radio or an app I downloaded from XDA) ... but some other apps seem to install fine. Seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why some apps install & others don't.
I have a rooted, unlocked 16gb C60 N7 with Stock ROM, kernel etc. All I did was root & unlock. The storage screen in settings shows 13.24 total, 8.11 gb available. When I do SD Analyst from ES Flie Explorer, it gives me same numbers...13.24 GB total, 5.13 GB used, 8.11 GB avail.
So how is there insufficient storage? I've cleared cache of Play Store, rebooted, still same problem. I don't have auto-update checked, There a "fix" in Lucky Patcher ... that didn't work either. I don't want to have to flash the factory ROM...I'm ON the FACTORY ROM.
What am I missing? What app could be causing this?

Thanks for offer. As my post above yours states, I've tried the Lucky Patcher "fix" and it didn't work ... I tried. Ironically, the first time I launched Lucky Patcher (I already had it installed) after this problem arose, it tried to update & couldn't!!! HA.
Any other ideas? This is getting quite annoying ... Thanks all.

Sorry, missed the fact you already tried the lucky patcher fix.
Here is another solution I have used in the past, but not sure if it still applies to JB. Using Root Explorer, or similar (providing you have it installed already), or use ADB,
navigate to either /sdcard/.android_secure or /mnt/secure/asec/ folder and delete smdl2tmp1.asec if it is there
If not, I am out of idea's, sorry.
Good to see I am not the only one with an issue from the storage reporting, I was going to start my own thread but I saw this one.
My SD card space shows 13.24GB available, 8.92GB used, 4.31GB available which from first glance adds up.... but the problem is that my apps add up to about 6.64GB and I have 550MB of Images/Roms so where has my extra free space gone?
ES file explorer even reports the SDcard as have 7.26GB of used space, I have attached some images showing the inconsistencies, anyone out there with experience or ideas?
No luck. I am at a loss. But I have noticed it is only Google apps!
That is doubly annoying!
Is there some effing Google support? You guys have been great...

I totally bricked my phone yesterday by modifying some files I shouldnt of. It was my fault, for sure.
I followed the guide for restoring my phone using Odin, im just having one problem. It appears that /system isnt mounting? The phones telling me I have 0 space in internal storage.
Is there something i need to do to get /system to mount? I know its not actually low on space, and I confirmed this with adb -df command. over 86% free still.
Thanks for ANY suggestions!
Use the program adrynalyne created to fix the problem. You will need to search for it here unless someone posts a link.

Have you tried doing a factory data reset via clearing it in your privacy menu under settings? FYI - I had one of those 0.0 gB space in internal memory due to my inept attempt at disabling voodoo, but had to eventuallyL (1) adb push the original.mbr and (2) do a factory data reset in the privacy menu.

not to steal the topic but with my recent problem, my fascinate decided to basically reboot itself to stock all on its own but was still rooted minus ALL the apps on the phone without the sd card being recognized. Was the sd card holding all these apps and the real question is I went to install quadrant to see if the kernel was still installed internally and it said I didnt have enough disk space internally. Does this mean the kernel is still installed and was causing this? Also since I unrooted to take the phone to verizon to get a new sd card since it faulted...will i have to remove files before I redo the root and everything else, CWM, rom manager, root explorer, etc....

Could be a newbie thicko here (got N7 today)
Installed my apps etc and like on my HOX thought I'd use titanium backup to move them to SD, it states its done it, but doesn't actually do as it states they are all still able to move next time I open it????
I've also tried ROM toolbox, it states there are no apps moveable??
My N7 is unlocked and rooted OK, any thoughts please?
Maybe cause there is no sdcard? The n7 has no third-party storage options, only internal.

Everything is on the same partition now so that you're not limited to how many apps you can install on the system partition (other than actually running out of memory).

From what I've heard on other forums, Motorola has disabled the feature to move apps to the SD card. I believe that they did this to remove any root exploits. I'm not sure if this is a feature in the developer edition sold directly from Motorola though. Maybe someone with a developer edition could enlighten us.

Also when it says press button combo for bugreport, I hold vol.up and power, until the root process is complete, vibrates a total of 5 times for me but it worked flawlessly twice, so yeah I suggest u try and hold the buttons until it reboots because of program

so any ways you can think of that we can move apps to SD?
Hey guys, I got a BONAFIDE way to move our apps 2 sd!!
first: partition your sd card
then: install and use link2sd
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432459
boom there's the tutorial, took me a good 30 minutes to do (was watching the new always sunny episode while doing it) but it freaking WORKS...
definitely the best bonus of us getting root on our razr m's thus far as the internal storage is realistically only 2-3 gigs so this adds like 33-66% to your apps storage!!

I attempted this while carefully following the directions and it did not work on a Droid Razr M..... I succeeded creating the 2nd part. and the app identified it accordingly while looking under storage devices, but unfortunately the app only allows the option to move to "sd card"....which is the name on the internal memory, so it gives an error...motorola sly-fully named the internal memory "sd card" so the app keeps trying to send things there and all I get is an error message.............have you succeeded doing this with a Razr M?? And if so what could I be doing wrong???? Thank you!

Tried starting over and partitioning the apps partition to FAT32 as well as Ext 2, neither worked. Tried on another card, still no go.
The app thinks the internal storage space is actually the SD card, because that's what it's called. If you look around with a file explorer, you'll see that the internal storage space is actually /sdcard. If you want to get to the REAL sd card, it's under storage/sdcard1. storage/sdcard0 seems to be the same folder as /sdcard. Is there a way/a different app that lets you specify where you want to establish your new apps folder? I think that's all the fix it needs. But I am no dev.
Its called external1 actually.

Do we need absolutely to root the device ? Apps like gps navigation, maps.... need more space and I can't move them to the external card.
Yeah if anyone could look into this that would be awesome...my car got broken into in Newark yesterday so I'm busy tryna get that taken care of, I'll be able to mess with it myself later in the week
It's getting really irritating though, i can't keep large game apps on here because of this problem, which is ridiculous seeing as to how the phone runs them like a champ and i have a whole 32 gig card in there

Is the only way to wipe the sd card is to use CWM? Is there any other way? Also, will this have any negative effects to the device? Does the system require specific folders to work/run?
First you need to make a backup of your rom using CWR, or i prefer 4ext ( mainly cause i can enable usb mass storage while in recovery once plugged into pc)....
2nd ..You should copy all contents from ur storage by connecting ur phone to pc
3rd. place existing folders from sdcard storage to a backup folder a.k.a Nexus 7 backup folder. This will also include your backup under clockworkmod/backup/xxxx_xx_backup.
4th...format sdcard in recovery(4ext) allows for multiple partitioning options..
5th..once formatted...download any ro and boot up..once booted up compare all folders in sdcard to those of backup on pc u created earlier and copy folders to new formatted sdcard..
6th.. note you created the backup earlier which is housed in the clockworkmod/backup folder on pc. Make sure u copy that folder onto sdcard along with i.e dcim, movies, pictures, gameloft..etc...etc..basically all files from ur pc folder that contains all the sdcard contents explained in step 3.
Hope this helps

I'm just concerned that if I wipe the sd, the nexus 7 won't run the way it should.

Like you already asked you need to reformat your tab etc, that is THE ONLY way to return the dead space back into usable.
Maybe: backup and restore->factory reset, is the option you are looking for?

If I do the factory reset, I have a few questions.
One, will it cause me to lose root?
Second, will it also wipe the storage card? ( I would assume so)
Third, I never heard of this dead space issue. Why does this happen?
Don't know about root. But that should be easy enough to get back. I was ballsy enough to press the option thought it would prompt me before wiping and it did .

I was thinking, maybe if I went in to staples and showed them that the storage card was showing me incorrect info, maybe they would swap it ouf for me for one of the newer 32 gb ones. I'd even pay the $50 difference if the 16gb drops down to $200

No problem. I was really nervous. In all honesty though there has to be another way. I mean I have root access obviously. Lets say you get some regular user who doesn't know much and they just want to wipe their device clean. What exactly are you supposed to do? why isn't a factory reset wiping out the storage card? It is very strange.

Because the SD card is where you store pictures, music and other stuff, a factory reset wiping that would be a long process(copying it off then back on) and most of the time not required
and the space not showing up in storage settings menu, it only shows stuff in the default android locations, just a fyi

Maybe, if you install those apps in to the sd card and the sdcard somehow have some bad blocks or unable to read by system.Try to uninstall one app and reinstall it again if problem will solved back up your sdcard and format it and copy back your backup maybe later install other apps what you want.

I had this problem too in the past and never really got to what was causing it...If I remember correctly the situation improved considerably after I wiped cache, dalvik cache and fixed permissions but not very sure if that's related
They're not reading properly off the SD card. Back up your SD and run a check on it.

icons not being read from your sd card are the least of your worries. You've got adware installed, too!! I'd take care of that first if I were you
