Ok so I am going through a little bit of a problem with my device it seems to be stuck on the google black screen of doom... Been searching and searching but I cant seem to find an answer or a solution as to how to get it to recognize on my pc or just boot up to the bootloader or recovery. I have been checking out a couple devices on ebay and was thinking if I would be able to switch out the screen on my nexus and would it be compatible with a 16gb if I chose to go that route or just get another 8gb cracked and switched them out. Does it sound doable? I am planning on taking my phone to a shop to repair the screen switch out the glass on my vivid. If they do a good job I would seriously consider it but as I said this is wishful thinking down the road. I am hoping I can solve this problem on my device I would hate to be the one to hardbrick his Nexus 7 on such a silly mishap.
anyone think this would work seriously looking into doing this if i can get a 16gb under 100. I am losing hope on getting my device to work.

whats when you hold down both volume buttons when turning it on?
Have you tried plugging your nexus into a PC then going into bootloader?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yea i have tried everything the only thing my pc recognizes is apx on the device. Cant get into the bootloader for the life of me. There is a thread i am hoping can break through on restoring the bootloader but it's on linux.

I was trying update to GB.... and by accident nudge the usb cable off! Now its Hard bricked! It has no response at all (cant power on, no display, nilch!!)! Any ideas how to rescue it?
the future is bright, the future is Galaxy.
use the search and look for : how to recover hard bricked devices, I am pretty sure there is something you can do, and if everything fails get it to Samsung repair service and ask for help.
good luck my friend, the only advice I would give to the people who own such devices is DO NOT FLASH YOU TABLET FOR NOTHING! IT IS A USFUL TOOL TO READ AND MAKE PHONE CALLS NOT FOR BETA TESTING ALMOST ANY AVAILABLE ROM OVER THE NET.

I had the same problem, left it plugged into the charger for few hours then managed to get it into download mode, also found it went into some other kind of download mode rather than recovery when holding pwr+vol up

Nothing! as long your device is still in warranty they won't charge you for it, they can check from your serial no. or if you still have the receipt. Go on samsung site and lookup your nearest service centre.
"in the brightest day in the blackest night, no Apple shall escape Android's might"
I've used this service before. Cost was total was $50 plus 1 way shipping to them. They paid the return shipping. I got it back within a a few days of them receiving it. Make sure to get unbrickable mod applied to it. Then you will never have to worry about bricking your tab again. Unbrickable mod is a hardware modification that makes your tab into a developer version of the tab. It kinda puts your tab into a a different download mode when you plug it into a usb port that lets your flash a new bootloader over usb if you accidentally delete yours.
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-unbrickable-mod-repair/
And Rpatton I am sorry I didn't see your PM. I haven't been actually signed into xda very often until recently. I really recommend this service if you still have a tab in good condition. I was in the same boat you are in now for almost a year until I finally got off my ass a looked into getting it fixed. Although I haven't had to actually try using this mod, I know that it does work and there are tutorials out there about how to recover once you have this mod applied.
used them they are great a little hiccup with them but they fixed it got my tab back been using it like new since . Great service i would recommend it to anyone.

You posted 1 or 2 days ago that your USB charger or cable stopped working.
Maybe you can't get into APX mode cuz the cable is broken? Did you try using a new cable?

Dude, why aren't you raising hell at Asus' customer service for not letting you do an RMA? So what if you lost the sticker, that's Asus' fault for using a sticker for a serial number. Did you lose the reciept? Are there even any transformers that are out of warranty? Double check the release date of the transformer with the warranty length. I think the warranty is at least a year, and I'm not sure if it is a year old. If there are no transformers out of warranty, then yours has to still have the warranty by logic.
Even if it is broke, Asus should be willing to fix it for a reasonable price. Hell, I could probably get you a replacement mainboard for a decent price. Look for someone who broke their screen.
I hope you're able to get it fixed. If you happen to still have the box it might have the serial # on it.
If you're not able to get it going let me know what you want for the dock. I've been toying with the idea of picking one up anyways.
wow..... finally got them to accept it so I sent it in for RMA... just in case anything does happen and it doesn't get fixed then ill send to blades
Yes my usb cable/charger was a problem but I got it working.
It would go into APX mode I assume, just not connect to computer... tried 2 different computers and 2 different usb cables.
Was running stock... listening to music... cold booted then stuck at Asus logo screen.
So ill keep you updated when I get it back in a couple months
Ive bricked my Nexus 4. It was my fault.
Ive been reading around for a solution. I get the Download USB device in task manager, and a USB input device while the red light comes on after holding the power button. No fast boot, screen activity or vibrations.
Ive read that a few people have sent in their Nexus 4's for RMA's while they have bricked custom ROMs installed, none of them seem to post how the RMA went. Do google check for this sort of thing, or just flash a new firmware onto it once they receive it, or have people been charged for the cost of repairing it?

Are you able to boot to bootloader or recovery mode? If you can, you can probably revive it.
How did you do it? Sounds like you flashed a kernel for another device.

Would that have any different result than just leaving it for a week? I left it at home while I went back to uni, so the battery will be dead when I get back. Don't want to make it obvious i've opened it.

Well its not really hard if you try to open it, just take your time, and from what I've seen in the forums, its helped many users. You shouldn't have to worry about making it look obvious that you've opened the phone. You only have to remove 4 screws, and that's including the 2 on the actual battery.

Google accepted my RMA. They have removed their hold on the money, I returned the phone on the 16th.
I have not had any communications back from google about my RMA.

Google for some reason is being very generous with RMA's. On the playstore website it states that RMA's for defects can only be done in the first 15 days after purchase, after that it has to be sent to LG for repairs. But I've seen people RMA a device up to 4 months after getting it. Not sure why they are being so generous unless the Nexus 4's are having a really large failure rate and they are just being nice.
My screen and digitizer were broken over the weekend, and as it turns out, I did not enable remote wipes in the Google+ Settings like I thought I had. Is there a way for me to access the Nexus 4 by USB or another way to enable a factory reset so I can sell it for parts without my data on it?
I can't remember if I have debugging enabled or not, either, and I know for a fact that the phone isn't rooted.
Is there anything I can do to wipe the phone clean without being able to use the touchscreen?
Thanks so much for your help.
Download the factory images from Google
Extract
Plug phone into pc
Run the flashall.bat
It will factory reset and erase all your data from the device

Download the factory image and flash it on your phone with Odin3.
Of course your can't get your data off of it.
You could just buy a new display module for it. If you like the phone.

No. He forgot which forum he was in.
Ah dang your right! My bad.
They're right, Odin is just for Samsung phones.
With the Nexus 4 you don't need it. Just use Fastboot and the ADB.
Thank you guys so much! And part of the reason I'm not just sending it in for replacement is that many of the services are out of stock with the screen/digitizer and if I'm going to be paying around 200 anyway (LG won't quote an approximate price, either), I'll snag a brand new phone instead of a refurbished one.
Sure, hit the Thanks button if you like.
I broke the screen on my Nexus 7, and they said that a new one would cost $170. I did what you are going to to XD.

I know it's a joke really. If the screen costs 170 then they did really well getting the rest of the tablet for 30 bucks

I know, I thought I was going to puke when they told me it was $170.
I didn't know it was the same deal with N4.
I have owned a Nexus 7 2nd gen for a couple months now and have just started to get random flashes of black (occurs for not even a quarter second) ...
I am wondering what causes this...
I have not damaged the Nexus in any way and bought it brand new..
I have only used CleanRom and PA ROM...
The functionality of the tablet remains great, but the flashes are very annoying ...I have tried clean installing multiple times but the flashes still happen...
Any feedback/solutions would be a big help...
Thanks

I've noticed black lines when playing Terraria for hours but its only the background of certains areas. I chalked I up as game glitches.
I haven't seen anything outside of that.

I had that happen soon enough for a return to be viable. Do some more Google searching and you'll find people who fixed this as a hardware issue. They had to open the back and fiddle a connection. Didn't sound to hard but I just went to best buy instead.
Happy hunting, sorry I don't have a link.

Yea I would exchange it before it is too late. Doesn't seem that troublesome but if it got worse, or worst, disconnected entirely, it would bring bad news.

Just because you bought it off ebay doesn't mean it doesn't still carry the 1 year manufacturer warranty on the hardware. It would require you to send it in, but worth a shot.
Once you pop the back and start fiddling with hardware, you run the risk of doing enough damage where Asus will void the warranty. I think I would check with Asus first before resorting to hardware modifications.
