CM7 forceclosing on load

Hi guys,
Just have a quick question- wondering if anyone is running into the same problem. I just installed Cyanogen 7 rc1, and it is force closing between the load screen and the welcome screen (for the first time).
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but any help would be great.

Based off what I've read in the development threads, the RC does't seem to be too much of an RC. I'd restore and wait.

Yep! Its was a known issue with the first build of RC1. Something was botched. I recommend you either flash RC1 over nightly build #38, or you just flash nightly build #39 (which already includes fixes that were left out of RC1).

CM7 vs CM7.1?

So...I haven't really followed CM7 much, but I see that there is a cm7.1 now. What exactly is that vs the CM7 nightlies? Can I use dalingrin's OC kernel (or any other OC kernel) on CM7.1? Can I even put CM7.1 on my nook (as in will it work on it, not how to do it)? Would I want to put it on, or should I just run nightlies?

For the Nook Color, the current 7.1 release is a RC or Release Candidate which falls between nightly and stable. Several nightlies have now followed, and I believe those nightlies are now also 7.1.
Yes, you can load 7.1RC on the Nook Color and it runs very well; yes you can use Dalingrin's OC kernel, and you can do this all off a uSd which is all what I am doing.

I could only find RC1 (is that the latest anyway) and only 7.0 nightlies. Is there a link to updated 7.1 anywhere?

This weekend I finally wiped my Phiremod 6.3 and installed CM7.1 RC1 and Dalgrin's 6/30/11 kernel. It's been super sweet thus far.
I never cease to be amazed at how great a tablet this is.

I'm confused about how to install the OC kernel on SD. I'll do some searching in the interim, but if you have a link off the top of your head, please share.
Starting to get very intrigued by CM7. The earlier run on what was supposed to be a class 6 sucked compared to a trusty ol' class 4 sandisk...
Actually, I think I get the OC thing (recovery mode, named update, etc). But now I have a different problem. I tried 7.1 and after installing market I can't search for anything. Any time I try any of the search icons or menu, nothing happens. Any thoughts there from anyone?

Now I'm getting confused. Was running RC1 and installed nightly121 over it, clearing dalvik and cache...according to my thinking I've got 2.34 installed with updates from the nightly..correct?

CHeck the version in 'about tablet'. When I did nightly 128, it said it was still cm7.0. Or maybe I read it wrong. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can answer...

New owner some quick questions please :)

I have a new nook on its way to me and ive been reading up as much as I can on the potential this device has.
From what I have gathered so far it seems best to install Phiremod on this device.I dont have any real interest in the Barnes and noble software as I prefer Alkido and use this alot on my current tablet. I also want as trouble free experience as possible.
Questions I have are as follows:-
1) Is phiremod v7 worth going for yet? Or should I stick to 6.3?
2) Is it worth upgrading the tablet to B&N 1.2 update and using ManualNooter 4.6.16 to root it or should I stick with 1.11 and use something else? What is best here or does it not matter?
3) Can I use phiremod as my main rom installed to the internal hd and have say one of the honeycomb mods or cm7 run from a sd card? Naturally the sd would need a menu for this.

1) Phiremod is kinda old. I suggest the latest CM7 nightly, or MIUI (which is extremely simple to use)
2) If you install custom ROM, the BN Software is trashed. What's the point upgrading?
3) Stick with a good functional OS on the internal hd (call it the emmc) and put an OS you like but is not stable on the sd card.

I believe Phiremod was built on cm7 and development has either stopped or is well behind. I would also recommended CM7 though. It really makes this device very useful.

Phiremod is just a themed version of CM7. The stable release of Phiremod is based of CM 7.0.3 and the test version of Phiremod is based off cm nightly 110 or something like that.
So yes Phiremod is outdated and the CM 7 nightlies and Miui releases are the most current roms you can get.

I've dusted off my NC after a few months packed away. I'm pondering loaded a new rom/kernel/whatever. Unfortunately, I haven't kept up with what's available and cool development advancements, etc. I'd appreciate some recommendations on the latest and greatest stuff. I'm currently running CM7 with Dalingrin's OC kernel that I got last June. I'd like to get something with bluetooth support (heck, for all I can remember, what I currently have supports bluetooth).
Anyway, thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I am dualbooting from EMMC. CM7 Mirage Kang and CM9 with Open GL. I do not update CM9 that often because it is in alternate and takes about an hour to update total. I do update when a new CM7 Mirage Kang comes out though.
Installing the dualboot setup is a breeze updating primary is a breeze too. It is just a pain for me to update alternate.

Thanks. I'm curious, can you tell me what Mirage Kang is? And what does Open GL buy me? If I wasn't going to dual boot, would you recommend CM7 or CM9?

Mirage Kang http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873 is just a modified build of CM7 that is updated when any useful release is released. So it's not a nightly thing. I love it!
As far as CM9 open gl, I think it has something to do with movies and such. It is not enabled by default on the CM9 nightly so I don't think it would hurt.
I would recommend CM7 Mirage Kang if you are not going to dualboot as CM9 is not really ready for prime time. I have it on mine because it is not hurting my current set up. I actually have alot more space on CM7 than I did when I wasn't dualbooting. I would recommend repartitioning so you have more space for apps and games on EMMC. I would use the 1.96gb scheme as found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094371 .
Please also note that dual booting is not limited to CM7 and CM9 but it works for almost any combination. Stock, CM7, CM9, MIUI (did I spell that right) etc. So maybe run a rooted stock and CM7 on the same machine.

Whats the fastest Nook HD+ rom to date?

I have CM11 installed on my nook hd+ at the moment and its decent.
I feel I would like to install the quickest and most efficient rom and kernel.
Does anyone know what rom is quickest/ most responsive.

Ok I'm going to answer my own question.
I have tried the cm 11 rom and it gave me funny flashing screens, not particularly fast.
Cm 10.1 seems to be better stability and speed wise. I am upgrading to cm 10.2 now.

The screen flashing is caused by wallpaper, as users has guessed. Are you using Nova launcher by the chance? As for the question, I use succulent's CM11 for some months already, best rom here. I also run Trim one a week.

I am currently running CM11 snapshot version. Previously I was running 10.2 stable. To be honest, I don't notice any significant difference in performance.
My tablet is new and I have not yet had the need to run trim. Can someone guide me how do I run it if I want to? I couldn't seem to find this info in the trim thread.

I think it is automatic with CM11. You don't have to do anything yourself.

Succulent's CM11 is the best ROM out there, imo.
(And yes, screen flashing is because of a bug in the wallpaper settings. It can be avoided by setting your wallpaper using the "Full Tool" instead of the "Portrait Tool".)

Trim is only automatic if your tablet is plugged in and idle. If you have apps that run in the background it will prevent trim from working. It can be run from the terminal if needed you will need to double check but I think it is Sudo fstrim -v /

I am curious to find out more about Succulent's CM11. His changes etc.
Is there a link to a forum post where this ROM is posted? This is better then just a download link in case he posts newer ROMs.

His latest build has the CM Theme engine bug (which sometimes FC's systemui etc.)

I am no expert. Is there something specific he has done so the UI is more responsive? Why not merge this upstream with Cyanogenmod? Especially all browsers (CM11 M6) could be better/faster.

Bummer. I tried to read the install description for http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2013/12/20/cm11-0-kitkat-android-4-4-2-for-nook-hd-xx-20dec2013/ including the 8x8 fuzz kernel several times. I already flashed CM11 M6 using a tutorial so I thought I will figure it out. But the description just confuses me.
Could somebody please write a short step-by-step tutorial including links to files needed?

To be honest, I'm still using CM 10.1.3 (Android 4.2.2) on the Nook HD+. I'm not too bothered about being on the latest Android version, as long as my current build is stable; which I find CM 10.1.3 is; a stable version of CM 10.2 has been released, and although the TRIM bug is non-existent now, I'm still not risking anything. CM 10.1.3 has not caused any problems whatsoever on my Nook HD+.
The Nook HD (the 7" model) is not affected by the TRIM bug, so I've updated that to CM 10.2; and that does offer a more responsive OS, most likely due to TRIM. I don't think I'll be updating these two tablets any time soon, especially as CyanogenMod are no longer releasing stable builds.

10.2.1 has wifi scanning quirks and I find that the web browser crashes often. So I'm on 10.1.3 as well. Maybe CM11 will be solid one day.
It blows my mind how much work it takes to make Google's Android drops work right.
By the way you can TRIM with 10.1.3 as long as you don't have a bugged EMMC chip. There is a app in the store called eMMC Brickbug Check that will tell you if you do. CM10.2.1 and newer have a kernel patch to workaround this bug but 10.1.3 does not.
