I have been having issues with my SMS and MMS on my Samsung Focus 1.3 since the Tango roll out on (7.10.8773.98). The phone is unlocked and was on T-mobile at the start of the issue now it has been reset and is on AT&T/Straight talk and i am still having issues, I have to restart my phone constently in order to keep getting SMS and MMS. For example, it will work fine for 30 minutes and then randomly not get texts, I have to restart it in order to get those text, its driving me insane. Its not always thirty minutes, sometimes it will be ten minutes, and sometimes not at all and other times it will work all day with out issue. I talked to samsung and they pretty much told me for 500+ $ they will replace my phone, (when i can go get a lumia 900 for 300 bucks). Does anyone know of a fix or could reformating my Focus help. Let me know.
Could be the sim card, have you been having signal problems or dropped calls more frequently than previously? If so it might be helpful to go down to an AT&T store and see if they can get you a replacement. I'm not sure how they handle straight talk phones but I know that I have a family plan and they replace bad sims for free.

Actually, pay attention, not to the time, but to the amount of texts received. Is it around 10? If so, that is an issue that can be fixed with a Diagnosis Setting. Let me know, and I'll try to find it. I used to have that after messing with Diagnosis settings.
EDIT: Here You Go!
Basically, open or install Diagnosis App by dialing ##634# from the phone, Enter *#2580#, Press Back (in Diag App) Twice, Press 7 (Network Control), Press 1 (GCF), Press 3 (Setting Cancellation), back out, and reboot phone. That should do it.

Download it from marketplace, via Wi-Fi, it's called "Network Profile". Alternately, you can also do it from Zune (or even web).

remember to use wp7 tools to give network tools root access before you run it to set up network preferences... reboot after giving root permission and should be good to go.

I got my HTC touch activated on boost mobile unlimited and i got the network to work, txt'n and calls, but cant seem to get the tethering to work on the BOOST CDMA NETWORK, and yes i get 3g speeds.
Any Ideas?
Got it working by doing this, and yes I HAVE A HTC TOUCH SPRINT ON BOOST CDMA MOBILE NETWORK
directions on how to tether a mogul, touch pro, touch diamond.snap or any other windows phone so here it goes
go to resco.com and download the trial version of registry editor and follow this path
Using a registry editor, make the following changes:
HKey_local_machine\Comm\InternetSharing
Delete this string: Extension - isext.dll
next delete this string aswell = forcecallconnection
Hkey_local_machine\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings\F orceCellConnection
once these strings are deleted the the phone will use the packet data settings for the internet sharing feature and boom no more error 67 when you are using the pam and you get a little better speeds because you are not using the third party app and it is free. when the trial version of resco expires your settings will remain the same and you can uninstall the registry editor and the pam will still work have any trouble let me know
BUT DO NOT DELETE ANY OTHER STRINGS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING THIS IS THE CORRECT SETTINGS FOR THE INTERNET ONLY . if you have any trouble let me know i will guide you threw the process
how do you get the internet to work on your boost phone?
yes its activated now. I can do video or what ever and its not the chip im suing the CDMA network. they have CDMA down south I have instructions. I've dont it 5 times for friends. I have picture mail, Tethering 3g EDGE, Great coverage unlimited for 50 dollars, EVERYTHING,
Its this simple here my simple 123 list
1 bought 60 dollars worth of minutes. you need 65 cause of activation fee. I got him to waive the fee.
2.get it activated BOOST CDMA ONLY, I USED MOTO c290 for BOOST. use it for a few hours. Use one of the the 13 states that have the service, if yours is not avail on the list dont try it, wont work. I USED FLORIDA NC,TX,CA work
3 call back with other phone get DEC using the back label or ##786# (new Phone)
4 They will give you your MSL code something like ##343456# change number and msid. it should reboot.
5 go to ##3282# and reset your network settings, if the net doesn't work, soft reboot twice. and boom. you got it working
This works on all SPRINT PHONES. Enjoy
Do you need to activate a boost cdma phone first
Do you need to activate a boost cdma phone on the account first and then call and change to the ESN of the HTC phone or can you activate the sprint phone on boost
Not working for me?
I completed all 5 steps, and the first 4 worked, but to use ##3282#, and tell it to reset the internet (mine says "Update Profile?"), when I do that it says:
"Preparing Vision Services, Please Wait..." then it Resets the Radio, and says "Error #1012 Provisioning Error.
It is trying to provision it connecting to Sprint with my Boost Mobile (@myboostmobile.sprintpcs.com) username... will that effect it? Phone and texting work, just no internet (haven't tested MMS yet
in order for the phone to provision you need your user name and password on the connection part(#777) should be something like [email protected] and you password should be a 6 digit one if you dont know the password try to just leave it blank.

Do you see a reset? what you want is IOTA to begin when you restart the phone, by resetting the network profile. it will not effect anything but the internet. so everything should work.
In the ##3282# menu the only buttons I have are "Update Profile", "Modify", and "Next" which goes to another screen of data settings.
I am running a Palm Treo 800w... so it may be a little different. Palm seems to have tried to improve things, but right now the Provisioning/Activation screen that pops up anytime I try to access data is driving me nuts... I can send screenshots if u think that may help.
yea that could help there should be a soft key item that says reset. And BTW its windows mobile right?

You actually need the MIN and the MSID, both of which are provided by your carrier (MSID is your phone number if I'm not mistaken).

Solution
The solutions that worked for me :
I did a ##3282# and put my 6-digit MSL code. From Menu --> Restore. This basically removed previous Sprint settings but did not put new Boost network settings.
I then went to Start --> Settings --> System tab --> Update Profile. This update took about 3 minutes and at end of which my web works on the device.
If I ever go into the ##3282# now, I see the Boost network connection settings!
No Hassle IDEN to CDMA Switch on Boost
I have read so much on these forums and other forums about how to get this accomplished until my eyes were crossed. So finally, I just said, "what the heck" let me just give boost support a call. Now, I have already been a boost IDEN customer for over a year. My phone was the Nextel 8350i. I used one of boost cheap phones to start my service back then and immediately went to activate my phone on boost website and the 8350i worked. Of course I had to copy the correct copy books and setting to get all of the functions to work on that phone.
Anyway, late last night, after midnight CST, I called boost support and told them I want to migrate my service from IDEN to CDMA. The rep never asked me what kind of phone it was, only for the DEC number. I gave her that and she switched my service. However, she told me that Boost was experiencing some technical issues and that my service wouldn't be on until the morning. This morning everything seemed to be working OK, not great and my text messaging was fully working. I called Boost and they told me it will take 48 to 72 hours for my text to work to other carriers, but it will work now on sprint, nextel and boost. I guess I will see if my text works in a few days, but besides that everything was pretty smooth. I can't believe that after all the reading and all the things these forums are telling people, I can't believe it was so simple.
if you have a 8350i you have idem and will be idem for ever.you only get cdma service with a cdma phone.
Works Treo Pro on Boost Mobile USB tether
Well I followed the instructions and performed the following steps and it works for me.
1. Download PHM Registry Editor (ver 0.70 I think was the one most found)
2. Change the word (ForceCellConnection) to (OldForceCellConnection) in the selected internet sharing directory. Yes the file comes back, but I think this somehow releases the ghosting/menu drop down selections.
DIRECTORY WAS HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/INTERNET SHARING/SETTINGS
3. Went into the folder right above that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/INTERNET SHARING/ and deleted all the files in that folder.
4. Pulled the battery.
5. Went into PROGRAMS/INTERNET SHARING
6. Set up the modem to work either usb and bluetooth with my laptop.
Tested the tether speed today and it came back 1.93 Mbs download and 0.51Mbs upload. bluetooth was a little slower.
My OLD phone was a 8350i, my new phone is a Sprint HTC Touch Pro, and I just called Boost and told them I wanted to switch from iDEN to CDMA and they switched me without issue.
HTC Touch Pro 2 boost USB tethering
The steps above removed the "Error 67" and the computer sees the phone as a modem. But the phone status hangs for ever on "Waiting for network".
Thank you all for the previous threads. Is there something new I should do in order to have tethering?
Thanks again.
Note: I don't want WiFi tethering, only USB to computer tethering.
I ported my phone number over from AT&T. My Incredible was supposed to ship on the 22nd. It shipped on the 24th, with no reason given. Then, I wasn't home on the 25th to sign for it, so I had to trek to the FedEx place to pick it up. It took me an hour waiting in line. I get home, and follow the directions to activate my phone. It activates, programs the phone, and reboots it. Finally, I'm done, right? No. Instead of being able to call out, or receive calls, I can't. If I try to call out, it redirects my phone call to the activation process. If people try to call me, it rings and rings, but I don't receive the call.
I tried reactivating again. It failed this time, and redirected me to customer support. I'm in a house, all alone, with no landline. Therefore, I can't call anyone, not even the 800 numbers for support. The only way I was able to get support earlier was because the activation process redirected my call when it failed. The problem now is that because of the time, their support is closed. Earlier, they had me remove the battery and wait. That didn't work. So I had to get ahold of a different rep because that one couldn't call me back due to my issue. That one told me to wait a few hours. The issue still hasn't improved. It's weird, because on their end it says my phone is activated, and I can use the data network on my phone, but I can't send or receive sms/mms or calls.
Help?

You didn't specify that you've done this (per se), so I'm going to suggest that you dial *228 and press for option 1. Let it do it's thing and reboot.
If it still doesn't work, Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks. Make sure Airplane mode is NOT checked. Scroll down and make sure Mobile network IS checked. Then tap Mobile Networks on that same page. You MAY want to check the first two boxes, but then tap System Select and check Automatic.
Hope this helps.
Curious, but did you bother calling customer service?
It is possible your account is messed up and needs to work done by a CS rep to fix.
I've had something similar with other phones in the past that had to be resolved by CS.
*611 for Customer Service. Free, doesn't require you to have an actual plan, just be able to connect to the VZW network (which if you are connecting to the activation/programming you are) They will be able to help you. I suspect your number wasn't yet ported or the port wasn't completed. There are at least two systems they need to activate your account information in and I'd guess one completed and the other didn't. Stupid system if you ask me. They will ask you to remove the battery from your phone again at some point, it is actually a required step, not like when internet service providers tell you to reboot your modem... I know it is frustrating but you may have to continue to call until you get someone competent enough, or you can just ask to be elevated when you call.

As an update, it began working at 4AM that day. What happened was apparently an outage in their backend services, and it cause my activation to go through, but the tieup caused it to not remove the callblock in place.
I had tried all the things you guys recommended before I posted this thread.
It was ridiculous, I couldn't even call customer support using *661. In fact, the support reps I got earlier couldn't even call me back if we got disconnected.
Anyhow, all is well now, and I'm really enjoying my phone. A nice switch from my HTC Fuze with AT&T.
Dear Samsung Focus users,
I really need your help and suggestions. I bought an unlocked samsung focus last week and I love it! But I have this problem:
- I cannot receive text messages until I reboot the phone
- After I reboot the phone, text messages will start flying in to my inbox
- Then the problem starts again and I have to reboot the phone to retrieve new text messages
I live in the basement but I have no trouble calling or sending and receiving SMS with my previous phone.
I hope it has something to do with the OS thus they can fix it.
Thanks!
Sometimes I get it where the device thinks it's on the network, but won't use cellular data or SMS. I'll see this after being in the basement for a few hours with a signal that fades in and out.
Try turning on Airplane mode, wait 5 seconds, and turn airplane mode off. It should reconnect to the network and start running again.
I've seen this on 'droids, WinMob 6, and on the iphone 3 as well. I've just sort of figured it was the radio chip giving up on retries. I could be wrong, but recycling the radio seems to work for me.

when you have no signal, the operator will keep trying several times during different time spaces until your phone gets it. the problem with focus is that they quit trying to received. i dont know but only works after a reboot. In other phones you just need to wait till next carrier push try. i think its a bug, probably to unlocked phones. I have an At&T unlocked focus.
I am having the exact same problem. I dont know what to do
Count me in.
I am also experiencing this issue.
Here are my thoughts on the issue.
1. I bought the phone from Rogers (GSM)
2. I bought an Unlock code from the web (SIM Unlock only)
- You know you're device is carrier locked if you cannot run Samsung's Network Profile App, or if it shows no other profiles in the list. The app is available on the marketplace.
3. I use the phone on SaskTel's 4G network (Saskatchewan UMTS/HSPA+)
Now my thought is this.
Whichever settings are not provided by SIM are set by the Network Profle xml that is specific to each carrier.
My assertion is that if you cannot change Network Profiles via Samsung's app, you cannot use your 'carrier free' (AKA SIM unlocked) device on another network without some hiccups.
If someone can figure out how to enable Samsung's Network Profile on a carrier purchased device, I'd be happy to hear how it's done.
I should also note that I've since developer unlocked via Chevron's WP7 tools with no change (Installed NoDo right after).
If someone knows what the network profile xml actually sets and can figure out an alternate way to set the settings..... ie Registry editor, etc. We would appreciate this.

Hi;
I Got a problem with my LG Optimus 7 On windows phone 7.5 (Build 8107).
And I would like to configure my cell phone for this provider :
On them WebSite they say :
MMS
- APN : mmsfree
- MMSC : mms.free.fr
- MCC : 208
- MNC : 15
- APN Type : mms

But I can't find on Windows Phone how to set those data.
I've configured the APN free for Internet, and it works, but I can't find it for MMS.
Any ideas ?
Thanks.
You can set the network provider settings in the MFG app, you need the providers number which you can find with the LG app ''Network Setup''.
Check this Thread for more information

Furthermore, I've already tried to retrieve data from MFG, with the XML list, but the list remains empty.
Internet works well...

To access the MFG app after factory reset, enter ##634# and press call button (if needed). It takes some time to install the app. Password is 277634#*#.
I wasn't talking about mfg which works well, I was talking about network setup.
I didn't managed to make "free mobile" MMS work.
It seems the only way is to connect on a free mobile antenna (not roaming over Orange) and wait for a configuration SMS from 2048.
I'm gonna check that today, there is a free mobile antenna 80km from home.
You're serious, we need to be to the range of a free antenna to make it works ?
Tell me if it worked for you, I'd like to know if I'm going to look for an antenna or not
(I obviously only use Romaing where I live).
Is there a map to see which is the closer to me ?
this map is non official, but seems to be quite accurate:
http://carteradio.perso.sfr.fr/
Thanks, there is one just near my school, that's gonna be okay for me tomorrow I hope.
I'll post tomorrow to say if it's okay. In deed, if it's, the MMS Problem with Windows Phone for some users seems solvable.
I eventually found the antenna.
I had to restart the phone many time to connect, and after a few minutes I received a sms from 2048, in english, telling my I was going to received to configuration SMS later.
A few minutes later, I received these 2 sms, accepted the config, and restarted the phone.
I had to wait 30 minutes before being able to send mms or connect to the internet, but now it works perfectly, on Free Mobile, or on roaming.
Ok, first thank you for reporting this.
So; tomorrow I'll be able to test it : my high-school is supposed to be 400 meters from a Free antenna : I'll try and I hope I will receive this SMS.
You've restarted your phone ? It doesn't connect automatically ? That's stange.
Anyway; switching between Airplane mode ON/OFF wasn't enough ?
I didn't try that
So, i'm unable to receive a signal from this antenna, so, i'm stuck until they switch it on...
Any idea to bypass that ?

that's exactly what happened to me. I'm affraid there is only one fix: connecting to a free mobile antenna. Before IU connected to the antenna, I spent 1 week trying every possible fix (lot of hard resets needed ;-)
I even spent a few hours with their so called horline...
Nothing worked but connecting to a free mobile antenna.

About 10 reset; I called Free, LG and Microsoft.
Free tells me to Call LG, LG tells me to call Microsoft and Microsoft Tells me to call Free.
I haven't any free antenna at range, so i'm kind of stuck in this situation.
But, I got hope to force MMS.
I maybe found a way to manually edit MMS properties. Still need to work on, but it don't seems impossible.

I shared what I've discover.
That would be great if you post some screenshots of your "View Config XML" In MFG -> Engirneer Menu -> Other Settings -> View current profile
It may helps me to found the right value for each paramters. I'll finally create an application to set automaticaly Free MMS if I found what I need to do it .

I thought it was my rom (PN6) since I dirty flashed from the first PN6 to the last. So I just recently clean flashed PN7 to see if that solved the problem but im still having the issue.
Anyone else having this issue? And/or do you recommend anything?
Anyone?
Ive tried clearing the app data.
Ive tried clearing the device cache via the storage setting in settings
Ive tried clearing the cache in TWRP
Ive tried toggling the permissions for messenger
Ive tried Hangouts to see if it was app specific.
I got a new SIM card from AT&T
The only thing i havent tried is putting my SIM card in a different phone (because i dont have a spare phone) to see if its phone related or server related.
I'd advise to flash to stock factory images and see if it still happens. If not, it's an issue with Pure Nexus and you can try to get support in the official thread. If it still happens, I'd probably talk to AT&T tech support. They might be working on some towers or something. I don't personally have the issue on Project Fi, but I also don't use Pure Nexus.
Texts are normally sent over 1x I believe. I remember reading that AT&T is shutting down their 2g network by the end of the year. They might have shut it down already in your area. Maybe the texts are timing out and then being routed over 3g/4g?
Type *#*#4636#*#* into the dialer>phone information>turn on sms over ims>reboot. Worth a try

Click to collapse
I went into that menu but i didnt see a "turn on SMS over IMS"
That menu looks way different then when it did with 6.0.1 when we used to have to toggle LTE and GSM to get LTE to connect.
Update
I noticed that if i send a txt and its stuck on "sending" if i go tin to the *#*#4636*#*# menu and toggle "Cellular Radio Power" off then on the "stuck" txt send right away.
