Lenovo K1 CM10 V2 -Clockwork Mod /Recovery Question - Thinkpad Tablet General

In Clockwork Mod, in build [ROM][JB] CM10 for Ideapad K1 (Big thanks to krook1, it runs great) (I'm running version 2). Whenever I attempt to use any of the features it asks me to install the recovery (which I know I have, and can boot to it) and asks me to choose my device.. Which it then only gives me the ASUS TRANSFORMER as an option.
So, on Version 1 of this build, some time back. I said, what the heck, why not. Let it do its thing,rebooted.. and the system would not ever boot. Just hung at the CM10 boot animation.
Whatever. I used the NVFlash version, got it back up and running. Rebooted in to CWR, and flashed the [ROM]CM10 for Ideapad K1 version 2 CWM version on it. No real loss.
However, Id really rather not have to wipe my device again to go to version 3, or 4.. and I don't want to get stuck at a boot animation again.
Is it normal for the CWM to identify this build as a ASUS TRANSFORMER?
Thanks

Basically ROM manager doesn't support our device directly. Someone ported cwm recovery for our device.
Again if you try using cwm meant for other device it won't work.
I have same issue with my phone.

Thank you for the reply.
I figured it was something along those lines. What doesn't make sense to me is, if Krook1 took the time to make a CWM enabled ROM, then one would assume that in the build process the proper porting/modifications will have taken place. Otherwise why bother?
That said, I have no doubts about XDA's fine developers, the author of this one included in that. Thus it must be something specific to either that build revision (V1 at the time) or something specific to my tablet (possibly the remnant of an earlier flash [is that even possible with NVFlash and the format it does prior to flashing?]). If it is the latter, then what actions might I take to correct it?
I guess, what I am trying to mine out of this thread is has anyone else running this build have the same issue (Does it prompt for the ASUS?) and if so, did it work as intended. I'm just a little gun shy of trying it again now that the tablet is setup. However as aforementioned I would like the ability to use later revisions of this ROM, while reaping the benefits of the paid CWM.
-Cheers.

I see the same time to thing on my k1.
ROM manager will not show us tablet unless the ROM manager creator adds our device to his app.
Again ROM manager is not a required app and can be safely removed. I don't use it at all.

New to the Nook Color

Hi I just got a nook color for 160 bucks off Craigslist. It is rooted running cyanogen mod 7 encore 7.0.2. I was wondering how to get miui ubuntu and bluetooth working. Also I'm new to this so if there is anything else you guys recommend it'd be great to hear about. Also when I first opened up rom manager it says I need to install a recovery and I accidentally installed a one for a different device and now I can't access the recovery and when I click on flash recovery and I click on nook color it says an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands

I dont have the links off hand, but you should be able to create a micro SD card with CWR on it and boot into it. From there you should be able to modify and reload everything onto the NC.
Essentially start from scratch. I recommend ditching 7.0.2 and using at least 7.1RC or one of the newer nightly builds. 7.0.2 doesn't have deep sleep and there have been a lot of fixes made in newer builds.
Welcome!
I would also recommend just starting from scratch, unless there is anything on the NC now that you desperately wanted to keep. Who knows what the previous owner did to it. I've personally installed CM7 (just go with the latest nightly) to emmc using these steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11452450&postcount=19
If you want to go the SD card route, follow :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
There are steps in each thread about updating to a newer CM7 release. Bluetooth "just works" in any recent nightly. You can enable it in the networks settings panel. If you want to keep what you have, you might try going into the Applications settings and clearing data for Rom Manager (not 100% sure how to undo that setting). There are threads in the Android Development subforum for MUIU and Ubuntu, but [and I'm partial here], CM7 seems to be far and away the better option.
Just a side note here. Since I run bluetooth and host mode daily, I check out each nightly before playing too much. N 161 and 162 have comments about BT issues. If you really need BT, I have found 160 is rock solid.

[Q] ROM Manager vs Acer Recovery Installer

So I am getting a A500 soon and been looking into rooting/flashing. I am a complete noob but from what I can tell the device will come with 3.0 which means it will be rootable via gingerbreak apk.
after that, the guides say I will need to flash cwm recovery. most of the guides say to install acer recovery from the marketplace, however there also seems to be ROM Manager which is very popular but I could not find any info if it works with A500.
So which one should I be using? It seems ROM manager comes with an updated version of CWM compared to Acer Recovery Installer. Will ROM manager work with the A500?
no
you can not use rom manager..
the acer recovery installer is used to install . thors .Recovery.. its a custom version of CWM. c. its designed for the a500 ONLY.. and its the ONLY one you can use on our device to date..
also after you get the acer recovery installer installed go to tegraowners.com yo get the latest version . i think 1.6.2 of the cwm recovery. you can flash it by putting it on your sd card and use acer recovery installer...
PLEASE THANK BOTH DEVELOPERS AND PAY PAL THEM.. Without them we would all be boring and stuck on stock. PEOPLE ARE TO Colorful and different to be forced to be all alike
If you are android 3.2 or above os . you will need to look at the downgrade to update to 3.2 and above or fallow the post by Timmy Dean. with his back door exploit . this is all due to the encrypted boot loader
Good Luck and fallow all instructions . you will be no longer a virgin soon.. Giggles
Listen to Erica. DO NOT USE Rom Manager. Just because somebody has a newer recovery, does not mean it is meant for your device They are all different.
But,,,, if you want to listen to what the phone guys say, by all means,,, use it. See what happens If you haven't noticed, that thing sitting on the table, is a lot bigger than a phone. And, it has a different operating system on it.
Run the acer recovery, like she said. THen flash thors recovery. You can always go to his site later, and upgrade it. Takes 5 minutes.
Don't wanna sound rough, but trying to keep you from bricking your tab.

where can we pick up acer recovery & thors recovery? I am familiar with GB and previous. My a500 was rooted before the camera screen magically cracked and when I got it back from Acer they had of course wiped it and updated it to 3.2 so I was unable to use gingerbreak anymore. Since then it has run horribly. It was slow stock before I rooted it the first time but now it has become almost unbearable. I just finished rooting and need to figure out whether I am going to get acer recovery off the market (is that where or is it in the threads here along with thors recovery??)
Thanks in advance

Acer recovery is available in the market. The supplied recover image is ok for flashing roms. so don't worry.
But, if you want his newest recovery (after installing from acer recovery), then aftwerwards, go to tegraowners and get his newest recovery. Just copy the zip to sd, and flash. No wipes needed.

I got it installed just now (acer recover) and chose thor's cwr as the boot image. Where do I find *tegraowners*? is it a site? is it a link in the app? on the market?
Thanks!! Trying to figure out which rom to flash now..suggestions?
*Update* - Flashed Taboonay. Still very open to suggestions since this is the actual first time I've been able to flash a rom to my tablet. Been able to do it to a lot of SGS1's (mesmerize, vibrant, captivate & SGSII Att variant) but always had trouble with the acer. Since I got it back from acer for broken camera lens it was stock and was to the point it was unbearably slow. Given I had a lot of crap apps on there but still my captivate before it died ran faster than the acer. I'm just looking for a bloatware free rom that's fast, silky smooth. I don't need a bunch of add on animations and crap. I just want it to work & work well ...
Thoughts & ideas appreciated.

Any of the Near stock rooted roms.. is always the best bet for reliability and comparability. With that said i think Thors rom is the fastest. I use the honeylicious icy rom with some personal touches that suit me..
i would say most important thing is.. I see you kinda unclear on the whole rom/flashing procedures.. With that i suggest to go in the dev forums and read threads to post about flashing roms and rom versions.. Nobody can tell you whats right for you..
Good luck and HAPPY SAFE FLASHING...

Thanks for the feedback Erica. I already did taboonay and see that it is not quite as smooth as I'd like. I don't know why my tab seems to be slightly sluggish or jittery but it is. I'm dl thors v14.2 atm and will give it a try. Now that I have cwr (or variation there of) installed doing any flashing should be a breeze.
Google date restore after flashing
LAGGY FEELING..
this is something i have had a issue with
after installing a new rom.. during the initial setup.. while setting up your google account you have two options one to turn on google backup.. one is to restore.. Turn this feature off if you do not care about your previous data that google collected.. Sometimes it will load crap back on your rom/device that caused the issues to begin with . it will even load some of the acer apps that the rom developer removed..
i dont use this service from google at all.. I take nanandroid backups with cwm . but for my apps and app data i use TI Backup.. thou its not the most user friendly experience . it required a bit of setup and expects the user to understand there terms.. they have a very good help files on there site if this helps you.. after i reflash a rom one click run of ti i can restore my tablet including all apps there data shortcuts on home screen with widgets and so on.. But im sorry that i cant help you set yours up i dont know enought to do so ..

Read the description of that app.
its based on the rom manager code. with some added tools it looks like...I DO NOT think its in any way compatible.
AGAIN . THE ONLY RECOVERY ROM MANAGEMENT FOR OUT Acer iconia a500 is .
Acer Recovery Installer.
Thors Recovery Partition..
of course as always adb. (don't ask ) developer.android.com i think is url
I use no add on tools or memory task managers android can do this well on its own..

Rom toolbox, was not made for HC 3.2, It was made for gingerbread. 2.3
Some features work. Some, well,,,,,,,,,
Lag in the screen apps, it is HC 3.2 Can't fix it for now.
Well, it's not smooth as some "phones". It works, so until 4.0 releases, it's what we have.

Dude. I want my tablet back to stock.

Somebody, please. I've had my tablet running rooted versions of Thor's rom, I'm currently running the ICS one...and honestly, it's too much. I just really want to go back...to how the thing was when I bought it. Then I'll just OTA to the newest OS available. Somebody please help
What do you mean it's too much?
Wish I could help though, I'm not into ROMing so I have no info but I'm sure someone will come along or you can try using the search [if you haven't already]. I'm pretty sure you're not the first person who's come along wanting to revert back to stock.
Like all the little glitches and things in the ROMs really add up...I just want stock back and I'll wait for ICS. It was fun while it lasted but now I'm into hardware modding.
You should try the search function within the forums to help with this. There are several threads on this already. Here is one for starters;

Bill
You are running experimental version of Thor's ROM, of course there would be a lot of glitches. I've tried almost all HC ROMs out there and the one I'm sticking with is Thor 14.2, only glitch in that ROM is that the rotate lock switch does not work.
Note: Reason I'm using 14.2 is because that is the only ROM that play nice with my GPS.
Run Acer recovery installer, load Acer recovery, run iconia root and remove root. Put the Chinese 3.0.1 unsecured kernel on your SD card, should be named update.zip.
Reboot to recovery, It will automatically run the update.
When you have 3.0.1 on your tab, go to settings>about>updates and let it update to the latest version of android, you may need to do this a couple of times as it seems to only go up to the next release of android.
All fixed, back on stock android and no root....
Cant you just boot into CWM. And restore the anand backup that you created before flashing any roms.. Then boot load acer recovery installer and use it to install STOCK RECOVERY..
.
Im sure as such a intelligent person that you are . YOU DID Make and save a backup. as every rom on XDA Tells you to do so before flashing...
If not just look for a full STOCK ROM And flash it...
Good Luck
To be honest, the ONLY way to get a nandroid backup of 3.2 for me was to go ack to 3.0.1... At this point I no longer can get a backup of my stock rom... So was pointless making a nandroid backup of the buggy OS that the unsecured 3.0.1 rom is....
I don't know if anyone else had this problem but it was a pain in the arse for me....

[HOLY CRAP][SPRINT P100] Stock to CM10 JellyBean - Complete Walkthrough

*********************************************
CM10 is now available.
Requirements: Root
From rooted stock or a custom rom, just download and install updated Rom Manager from the Play Store and download CM10 Nightly and GAPPS. Reboot into ClockWorkMod, factory wipe, disable signature check, flash CM10 twice. The first time partitions our tabs and reboots. Flashing a second time is for good measure. Then flash GAPPS. Done.
Note: I am not sure if Rom Manager can flash ClockworkMod directly. I personally updated from ICS > CM10 by downloading CM10 and GAPPS through GooManager and flashing manually in ClockWorkMod.
Its been reported that you can go directly from rooted stock to CM10. I've actually completed everything below to get to ICS first (Stock > ICS > CM10 JB).
CM10 is a much better experience. The tab works much better, doesn't freak out, lasts longer, plays better.
*********************************************
Wow. Lots of different, confusing, and scattered information about how to go from stock Gingerbread to the latest CM9 build. It is all very confusing and honestly most of the useful information isn't even on this site. So I figured I would help myself (and others) in creating a very detailed walkthrough of the process required to successfully get from GB to CM9 Build 7.
**This specifically outlines the methods to take a COMPLETELY STOCK Sprint Galaxy Tab 7" SPH-P100, unrooted, to a ICE CREAM SANDWICH rom. I "think" it might also work for the Verizon CDMA and a few others. I think the ROM itself is a general overall generic build for all 7" Gtabs. So heads up that if you have a different version, you might want to use this as a guide rather then a step-by-step.**
BACKUP EVERYTHING YOU MAY NEED BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THIS PROCESS WILL FORMAT YOUR GALAXY TAB
GET CONNECTED!
We need to download Heimdall's App and his Drivers (Main URL). This is the first confusing steps as everyone suggests using an older version, but the included drivers don't work on newer Windows OS's. So you have to mix and match a few different versions to get it working. I've already compiled an archive with everything you need: Heimhall Mixture /w zImage & ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.7
1. Extract everything to a simple folder [ex. C:\GTABICS ]
2. Turn off Gtab. Hold VolDown+Power until you get to a downloading screen
3. C:\GTABICS\Drivers\zadiag.exe to load drivers [try running as Administrator]
4. C:\GTABICS\heimdall-frontend.exe to start the process
5. Kind of confusing. Focus on the "BROWSE" buttons. Look for "Kernel(zImage)" on the left and "Recovery" on the right. Hit browse for each one and select the appropriate file from C:\GTABICS. Obviously "Kernel(zImage)" = "zImage" and "Recovery" = "recovery.bin".
6. Make sure Kernel(zImage) and Recovery both have files selected and a checked box. While GTAB is at the black Downloading screen: Hit "START".
7. The process is pretty fast. Don't rush. At this point your tab will probably just bootloop anyway.
LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD
Now you have ClockWorkMod installed and a proper kernel, most flashers will feel really at ease right now. But there are a few little quirks that will cause this to go bad. You have to install 2 versions of ICS to get to the latest; One using the existing partition table, and a second that will update to a newer format. You obviously have to install GAPPS like always with a CM rom, but not so fast, you have to manually "MOUNT /SYSTEM" in CWM before it will even take. And there is the fact that you have to manually open and edit the CM9 Build7 update and remove code....[holy crap].
But it is pretty easy once you go through it once.
REQUIRED FILES
JT1136 CM9 V5
JT1136 CM9 V7 UPDATE
GAPPS
Prepare CM9 v7 Update
1. On your PC, open "update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-galaxytab7c-KANG-BUILD7.zip" and browse to META-INF\com\google\android
2. Copy "updater-script" to your desktop and open with Notepad and remove the first 3 lines or just Download it.
3. Drag and drop the update-script back into the META-INF\com\google\android folder, overwriting the existing one.
If all goes well, you are now done with the PC.
COPY FILES AND FLASH
1. Copy Build5, the new Build7, and GAPPS to your microSD card.
2. Boot into ClockWorkMod: Power off. Hold VOLUP + POWER
3. Factory Reset / clear cache / wipe Dalvik Cache / Breathe
4. Flash zip from SDCard: locate Build5 and Flash
5. Factory Reset / clear cache / wipe Dalvik Cache / Breathe
5.5 [OPTIONAL] You should be able to boot into ICS at this point if you want to make sure build5 flashed properly before upgrading to build7
6. Flash zip from SDCard: locate Build7 and Flash
At this step, my GTab rebooted in the middle of the process the first time. It freaked me out but I assume (now) that since it changed the partition tables, it needed to reset. So I did it a second time just to be safe:
7. Flash zip from SDCard: locate Build7 and Flash
8. Factory Reset / clear cache / wipe Dalvik Cache / Breathe
Congrats. You should have a working bootable CM9 build. But lets flash GAPPS so we have our Google services. This is tricky.
9. Mounts and Storage > Mount /System
10. Flash zip from SDCard: locate GAPPS and Flash.
11. Finally [!] reset device and prepare for boot.
Now you are on the latest CM9 build [7] and have the latest GAPPS installed. Hopefully you are booting now and see the famous ICS Boot Animation. Have fun. In the future you should be able to simply download new roms as they are available and flash normally like you would any other device.
RECAP:
Drivers and Flash Tool

Convert to Sprint
The above procedure will set your Tab as a Verizon version. If you plan on using the Sprint cellular service or just want everything to match, then flash this via ClockWorkMod.

I didn't do any development work. All credit goes to Heimdall for his fantastic Recovery Flasher and jt1136 for his great stills porting this awesome rom over to our Galaxy Tabs. All I did was bump and grind my way through to see a successful working flash. I figured if I didn't post a walkthrough here, I would hate myself in 6 months when I boink something up and have to do this all over again. I would recommend you keeping all of the files safe somewhere to prevent this headache again.

i have been thinking about moving up to ICS with my sprint sph-p100
just not sure if i should jump now or wait till more things are working ?
do the things working out number those not , is it ready to be a daily driver yet?
Camera fully works but is flaky sometimes. Video out isn't working yet but he's working on it.
Other then that, its golden. Very fast and works well. Really worth it. Feels much better... like an actual tablet vs a large phone.
Iffy Camera and video out aren't worth holding back. One of the benefits is now Wiimotes and PS3 controllers will pair up using their respective apps now.

flashed sprint Tab
Hello all,
Thanks for the files and instructions! Here is my situation/question:
I bought my Gtab off of ebay flashed to work on Boostmobile's 3G network. It works great, and had no problem with the official OTA upgrade to Gingerbread.
Now I'm dying to upgrade to ICS but am worried that this would mess with my 3G connection. I can't provide any details of what went into the flashing (its not a process I understand), but I'm hoping that someone out there will.
So, if I follow the instructions in this thread will I still be able to use my Tab with the boost 3G it connects to now?
Many, many thanks for any help with this!!
Great Thanks! The first complete step-to-step instruction for installing ICS on Sprint p100.
One note- if you have Error 12 - delete all SAMSUNG USB drivers on PC, rebut and instal drivers from first archive.
At least!!! Thanks a lot!
I don't use the cellular network (sprint) but it does come up and show signal. I don't use it as a phone or anything like some people (supposedly you can install phone.apk and make calls over a voice plan).
I just use the tab as a tab. I just wanted to confirm that it appears to see the cellular network fine.

Try re-downloading the version 5 zip again. Make sure you don't edit anything within the zip before you put it on your SD card. This happened to me when I edited the version 7 zip as instructed above.
Ok. Got it working. What is the newest ver.? I'm on 4.03

I think 4.0.3 is the latest ported over. I have a Galaxy Nexus and 4.0.4 was just released... so I would expect delays in porting that over to unofficial devices.
The patch, I've found, is just cosmetic. Once you upgrade to ICS using this method, the build.prop has everything setup as a Verizon Device (name, settings, etc). They can all be manually changed but there is a patch that you can flash via ClockWorkMod that does everything for you.

What is DTI? I may just leave it as verizon since I get more signal. LOL
Hey what's up guys I just threw this on my sprint tab... I had a few quirks with it early... when I first flashed the clockwork mod on it, the screen was discombobulated... the capacitive touch orientation was in landscape mode while the actual screen was in portrait.
So when I had to put the files back on the tab after modifying build 7 zip. I had to figure how to unlock the screen and then and also to choose "connect USB to storage"
Then I got a little nervous while doing the wipe because it took long. I thought it froze..
Just a heads up of what could happen to other guys .
Also now after full install, I find that my ram is usually pretty low and my CPU usage is almost always @ 100 percent .
Taking away from the fluidity... any suggestions ?
I restored my email from titanium back up and also my browser bookmarks, now they don't open up or close immediately. This happens with a lot with system data restored things....

Whenever my tab starts it says encryption unsucessful, how can I get past this screen?

[VIDEO] Idiot's Guide - How to Install CM10 on the HP Touchpad

This is my FINAL VERSION of my Idiots Guide for the HP Touchpad. Now that a stable enough version of CM10 is available, I finally created a guide for you.
Here are links to the files you will need:
CM10 03/04/2012 Build
GAPPS 10/11/2012
ACMEInstaller3
Moboot 3.8
Anything else that you might need, you'll find on http://www.reverendkyle.com
Thanks for the video. It came just in time as I just purchased a used TP that had an older version of android ICS already on it and I wanted to upgrade but seeing as how this is the first device I have sort of inherited already rooted, it is hard to just jump in and know everything that I would have learned from the beginning like i did with my previous phones.
Anyways, I did everything you said except I used the newest AOKP rom. But my tp is still booting to the older version of android that I had on it. Any ideas? Feel free to pm me if you prefer that.

If the AOKP ROM is using a unique uImage file, then you may see two different entries on your moboot screen for two different Android builds.
What does your moboot menu have in it?
Maybe your install failed. Try downloading and flashing it again. If you're trying AOKP JB, you should wipe both /data and dalvik cache to avoid a boot loop!
If using AcmeInstaller3 remember to rename the ROM with ”update-” at the beginning so that it looks like update-AOKPJB_UnOfficial.zip

I believe it was the "update-" thing that was keeping it from updating. I followed another video tutorial which provided files that had the "update" in front of them and it worked.
I haven't tried yet but now that it worked will the regular method of wiping and flashing through recovery work? (Like, if I want to try out different JB Roms) Are there any files that need to be in a particular place for the recovery method to work? I tried that method first and it would never take, would always revert back to the original version. Don't know if, because I just jumped in and haven't been here from the beginning, I am just missing a necessary step that is hardly even talked about anymore.
Love your work Rev! Thank you again for everything that you do!
Update went like clockwork, unfortunately I can't seem to get the camera to work (not a terrible loss, but I was sorta excited to see it actually working with this release).

I can attest to the improved battery life on this cm10 build. Amazingly, it holds battery life when it's sleeping now.
Thank you so much for taking the time in making the video for us. Your instructions are easy to follow, hard for anyone to mess up.
(The hosting site for the files is not working, not sure if you were aware)
Hi, I have CM9 running on my TP. With the latest release, the camera works great. But before updating it to CM10, I'd like to know about the issues currently in this build.
Thanks.
Where does one go when the goo.im site appears down, to get the needed files? Mirror somewhere?

Don't go for external mirrors unless some recognized developer suggests them. Best will be to wait for goo.im to come up again, being a prime site, it won't be down for long.
The goo servers do appear to go down on occasion. They always come back up a bit later.
Problem with installing GAPPS using ACMEInstaller3
Excellent tutorial for an idiot like me. Thanks for again for the guide! Question:
I followed the instructions step by step and was able to get CM10 installed successfully. However, I wasn't able to get GAPPS installed using this method. From researching I understand sometimes there is a problem installing GAPPS through ACMEInstaller3 and one can simply get GAPPS installed through CWM Recovery. However, I would like to use/have TWRP instead so is there a way to get GAPPS installed properly through ACMEInstaller3 and then I can install TWRP through GooManager?
Alternatively, is there a way to install GAPPS without using CWM Recovery?
Or, I guess I can install CWM Recovery first, then install TWRP Recovery, then remove CWM Recovery while keeping TWRP and not go back to the stock Recovery? I tried to search the forums and wasn't able to find instructions on removing CWM Recovery WHILE still keeping CM10 and not go back to the Stock recovery.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
@reverendkjr - appreciate your videos. they're awesome. definitely helped me (and several other friends) many times and saved a ton of time. super easy to follow.
Yes you can install TWRP normally, flash gapps in CWM then install goomanager app, open and click the 3 dot menu and install custom recovery script then it will install it
Now using a root file manager go to the directory called boot and delete uimage.cwm.img (this is from memory but still should be correct

My goodness you have forgotten everything, you will need to install acmeuninstaller 3, moboot, CMW and the rom you want along with the relevant gapps. Sounds complicated this thread will make it easy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147284 and has all the necessary links. Have fun.
