The only thing is you can't tether. To tether you would have to get one of the original plans. But other than that no

I just switched mine to unlimited.. woohoo!
Here are the T&Cs from the online system:
Unlimited Nationwide 4G
Unleash the power of your smartphone with unlimited 4G data and experience T-Mobile 4G without limits. If you want to access the web, stream music and HD video, and download cool apps and games as much as you want, you'll want unlimited 4G data. There are no limits, no overages, no worries—you never have to keep track of how much data you use. Not compatible with Smartphone Mobile HotSpot service. Data unlimited while on our 4G network.
T-Mobile's HSPA+ 4G network not available everywhere. See coverage details. Limited-time offers; subject to change. Taxes and fees additional. Domestic only. Compatible device required; not all features or plans available on all devices. Unlimited features for direct U.S. communications between two people. General Terms: Credit approval, $35 per line activation fee and two-year agreement with up to $200/line early cancellation fee required; deposit may apply. If you switch plans you may be bound by existing or extended contract term (including early cancellation provisions) and/or charged an up to $200 fee. You may be unable to switch to some plans. Regulatory Programs Fee (not a tax or government-mandated charge) of up to $1.61 per line/month applies. Taxes approx. 6%–28% of your monthly bill. Overage extra; partial minutes/data rounded up. Talk overage of $0.45/minute. Some calls/features involve multiple calls; each call incurs separate charges. For unlimited data plans, full speeds available up to monthly data allotment; then speeds slowed to up to 2G speeds for remainder of billing cycle. For post-paid 200MB plan, overage of $0.10/MB charged to customers after monthly data allotment is used. Apps and 3rd Party Content: Use of some content, features, or services may incur separate, additional charges and/or require a qualifying data plan or access to Wi-Fi connection. Coverage: Coverage not available everywhere. Abnormal Usage: Service may be slowed, suspended, terminated, or restricted for misuse, abnormal use, interference with our network or ability to provide quality service to other users, or significant roaming. See brochures and Terms and Conditions (including arbitration provision) for additional information.

For some reason it says I have 10gb of high speed data. I mean I don't think I'll ever hit this but I thought it had no limits?
DATA 179.4 MB / Unlimited on our network
Up to 9765.6 GB full-speed data
Data: 179.4 MB / Unlimited on our network * (up to 9,765.6 GB high-speed data)
Just FYI the service is called:
Unlimited Nationwide 4G
Unlimited 4G data on T-Mobile network for accessing the web, streaming music and HD video, and downloading cool apps—as much as you want. No limits and no overages.
More details $30.00 per month
What gets me is the "No limits" part, but the online system is saying it has a limit?

Nope still not seeing it. They are making changes to the website and I can't change anything on my plan. Not sure how you did it.

Only downside... you cant change the user agent to desktop mode or it will redirect you to the tether needed page...
Also no more mobile porn.

I switched my data plan to the unlimited plan this morning, and my data hasn't worked ever since. I was on the phone this morning for an hour and a half. Still not fixed.
As for tethering, I was assuming that you could use FoxFi to tether even though it's not "included."

just switched myself to this plan but i noticed that my plan said it wouldn't take affect until next billing cycle. however, i also changed to the non-hardware upgrade rate plans (saved about $25 total on monthy voice and unlimited txt, however had to pay a one time $50 rate-plan change fee)

Sprint CEO hints unlimited data could end if usage gets crazy
By Chris Ziegler posted Sep 22nd 2010 7:45PM
So far, Sprint's been steadfast in its commitment to keeping caps off its data plans -- a big selling point since AT&T's moved to tiered pricing and Verizon has threatened to do the same -- but the laws of supply and demand sadly still exist, and Sprint CEO Dan Hesse knows it. In speaking at the Emerging Technologies Conference at MIT today, Hesse mentioned that his company "can offer unlimited as long as the usage is reasonable," suggesting that a glut of extremely heavy users (you probably know who you are) could ultimately mean he "can't afford to do that anymore." Torrenting off a tethered EVO is fun, yes -- especially when you're on WiMAX -- but just remember: it might ultimately come back to bite you.
Either way it goes there's nothing you can do two choices if the they cap stay or jump ship

EDIT: its a 5GB cap on air-cards too FYI..... right now Alltel is the only TRUE unlimited data service (of the carriers in MI), at least until verizon finishes purchasing them, if you have 4g in your area you are fine though, there is currently no cap on 4g.

There was thing out a while ago on engadget or something a bit ago showing that the moto droid and droid x were the biggest net hoggers out on their market. I do believe they were the first, and most powerful smartphone made avail by vzw that ran android. That being a rumor, and all the android apps that seam to find their way into my 'necessary' list of apps that require data crap with an always on data connection, sprint should have seen this coming from a block or 2 away and was ready to stop before the light changed. we shouldn't be required to have an ATK running to kill the apps that require data, especially since we pay an extra $10 a month nation wide for a service of 4g we don't get. They can afford it according to my bill with evo and no 4g service. I say tell dan to go F himself somewhere he cant get it at a legal brawfel house. or go back to edge 2g service and call it good.
You mean we live in the real world?

Why is this so hard for everyone to understand? Sprint screws everyone the least amongst the big american carriers. Its no mystery that all carriers can only support a finite number of users. Couple that reality with the economic one, and here we are. Of course if things were better and sprint was highly profitable they could expand their data service to capacitate the heavy usage, but thats just not the case is it? To me this article isn't a threat but merely a reality. If that comes to pass and our seemingly endless data usage days are over, I will just switch to a cheaper carrier.
Drop plan prices or upgrade infrastructure. Or just screw all of us. That's what I am reading.
I have an air card that doesn't have a cap from Sprint. It's one of the reasons I still have it and haven't moved up to WiMax...once I go to 4G, the 3G has a 5GB cap (and since 4G isn't everywhere...and there's holes here in Houston...I don't want to be capped at 5GB/mo if I need it).

I get the syntactic trickery above, but when I check my usage on the Sprint website it says "250,000 / Unlimited" in the data category in the same format that they state I've used "40 / 1500" of the minutes they make me buy. How are they gonna dance around that one? (not that I'm at all worried about going over 5Gb, its just galling to see so many companies offer "unlimited" service that they don't deliver.)

if they change the plan structure it will more than likely be for new customers, you would probably get to keep your current plan and pricing until you change your plan. i see people coming into my store with old nextel plans that are paying like 50.00 for like 300 min, and no texting or data...
The everything 3g plans have had limit for a while now, the 4g $10 fee gets u unlimited 2, 3, and 4g data

How much data are people really using? I'd like to see figures.
I can't imagine that everyone is tethering and sharing connections with entire coffee houses.
I consider myself a fairly moderate data user. Some web browsing, more than a few SMS messages and lots and lots of hours on end of audio streaming. I've used just barely 10% of my allowed 5Gb this month and the month only has a few days left.
What could anyone be doing that is using so much data that would prompt thinking about blowing out the unlimited data plan?

T-Mobile 500mb Data Cap...

I don't listen to any streaming music, nor do I watch any streaming videos, movies, or shows except for a little YouTube now and then. I don't do any major downloads except for a ROM now and then. I still hover around 890mds to 1200mbs per month. 500mbs would kill me!

Yep, but they'll get them when they renew!
Here in Texas, Time Warner is offerening a wireless plan for laptop and mobile users that is 250mbs a month.

After you use up 250mbs, then they charge you (i believe - going off memory) .10 cents for every 1mb after.. WTF!

They will be capped when they renew their contracts.
When you renew you contract they will just give you a different contract to agree too, and the new data plan will be part of it.
They aren't "grandfathering" anyone in. They just aren't breeching their CURRENT contracts.

Someone watches alot of porn
I read the article about the 500MB data cap today and was totally freaking out, because I generally use about 2GB worth of data every month. I called T-Mobile and the rep said they had a 5 GB cap and after that your bandwidth will be throttled (which is what I thought the plan was). The T-Mobile rep told me that 500MB is insane and they would never put their cap that low, as you would eat it up in a few days.
Wow even T-Mobile USA agrees 500MB a month is not enough for a smartphone. How is T-Mobile USA affiliated with T-Mobile UK?
I told the rep that if they ever did something like that I would no longer be a T-Mobile customer... She acknowledged and told me T-Mobile would never do anything like that.
After my call with T-Mobile I decided I'd hop on XDA to see if anyone else saw the article about the 500MB cap, and found this thread. Now I wish I would have recorded the call in case T-Mobile ever does reduce their cap like this.

To clarify for you guys about WiMax.
Wimax is a technology much like LTE. Wimax is an extension to WiFi. Clearwire uses Wimax as their technology of choice to provide internet access/Data to their customers. Anyone who wants to can buy a Tower and mount a Wimax antenna on it and use it, just like we use wireless as Wimax has access to a none license frequencies as well as frequencies you need to license to use.
Looks like I won't be picking up anymore prepaid t mobile sim cards when I go to london.

Sprint just changed their policy on data usage. Now everyone who signs up a new contract or renews existing contract has to pay the premium $10 per month that they were initially charging for 4G data

[Q] Sprint not Unlimited (just for me I guess)

Just received this letter from Sprint today. Has anyone else received this letter before?
I'm pretty sure you don't get unlimited roaming data. That's why they sent you that.
From cellblock D
It starts off by talking about a mobile broadband card. It's basically saying you're excessively roaming with it. There is a 5gb a month limit for cards and officially tethered phones. Put the phone/card into home only (no roaming) and if there's a setting, uncheck allow roaming data.

I received one about a year ago. Theses are the 2 main rules
1. You must use more sprint data than roaming data.
2. You cannot voice call while roaming for more than 800 minutes.
As long as you follow this you won't have any problems.
Note if you find yourself roaming while at home call tech support and they will send you a free "airave" (its a portable cell tower that just needs a internet connection) it works great
Good luck

I would tell them to go f**k themselves
I have terrible sprint service in my area and when I called the 1855 number I told them I just wanted out of my contract and they waived the ETF and I am free now, I love sprint but if I can't use them then why stay with them?

This was my account with 3 days left of July's bill...I forgot to screencap August, but I'm on track for exceeding this in September.
I've never received any complaints from Sprint when regularly exceeding the 5gb "cap". I'm not even tethering!

May I ask...WTF do you do to get 13GB of data through 3G? Are you constantly streaming videos, as in...constantly??!!
That's a ton of data!

How long does your battery last???? 5, 10 minutes???
I got the same letter. And I don't roam at all. I talked to Sprint, and they told me that, despite what the commercials say, they no longer have a plan with truly unlimited data. They all cap at 5 GB, even the Simply Everything plan. So if I don't cut back on my data usage, on my data intensive HTC EVO 3D, they have the right to terminate my contract.
Very odd, as of last November they changed to completely unlimited as long as you weren't roaming so I was told for Hotspot because I used to have it. Roaming obviously they still could complain. It sounds to me like you are getting some uninformed people (or they went backwards). I had the lady read to me over the phone the new contract statements and how it was unlimited for 3G and 4G.

Always take what "Sprint" says with a grain of salt. Often their people aren't on the same page.
They do have unlimited data, and if you're getting a letter it's likely because whether you realize it or not, you're either roaming or tethering.

Your roaming Data is well within roaming limits, that's 36MB worth of roaming, you're fine. Anyone bashing you for these numbers isn't reading carefully.
I have pulled around 8 gigs of 3g every month since 2008 and no letter yet. Make sure you aren't using unofficial tethering or bittorrent

at&t LTE data plans (including unlimited)

I made a request to start carrier specific sections so we could exchange information, but it was shot down by a mod. So I figured I would start this thread as a poor substitute at least for some discussion about data plans.
Anyway when I log in to my account and look at my data options this is what I see...
And yes I use the unlimited options.
We're going with the carrier's definition of "unlimited" right

AT&T still offer the unlimited data for non-smartphones. That's why it says standard phones.
To use that plan you have to use a phone that isn't recognized by AT&T.

Or you could just be grandfathered in on an unlimited data plan, which many people on AT&T are. That's why it says smartphone.

No, it doesn't. Every category except standard doesn't have a price because they do not offer it. Yes some people are grandfathered in, but the only unlimited plan that is available today is for standard phones.

Since when was the grandfather data plan $10? And I logged in myself and checked. The option is there for me. Like I said the reason every other category has no price, smartphone especially, is because unlimited data is only for standard phones. They've had that plan for a long time.

The first image is the features I can add on my family member's basic flip phone, which is defined as standard by AT&T. Notice there is the options for unlimited data.
The second image, however, is the features I can add to my Impulse 4G. It is a smartphone, and no where does it have an option for unlimited data.

Ok, let me explain the loophole to you.
1) Buy a ultra-cheap dumbphone, like a motorola razr or something...
2) Sign up for the dumbphone unlimited data plan.
3) Buy a phone from this list unlocked and off contract.http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446373
4) Swap out the sim card.
5) Congratz, you now have a smartphone with unlimited data for $15/month.

I use unlimited data on my Lumia 900. I did not include prices because I get a corporate discount and the prices would not be applicable to a lot of people. Right now though I am on an unlimited plan that costs $30 month. It was a no brainer. The 3GB plan also costs $30 a month. Tho only other "cheap" data plan was a 300MB plan for $20. $10 more gets you unlimited. Easy choice.

Interesting. I have no option for a 200MB plan. Maybe it's because my phone is an LTE phone or you had that plan "grandfathered."
I have an option for unlimited data and 200 texts for $35. My understanding is stand alone 200 texts is no longer offered. I also thought 200MB data didn't exist, but I guess it does for some people.

Yes we are. Whether they throttle or not after 5gb is immaterial to me. My "unlimited" plan costs the same as a 3GB and I allegedly get up to 5GB of non throttled LTE data. I haven't seen a better deal out there.
I doubt I will go over 3GB on any kind of regular basis, but if it costs the same as a 3GB plan why not? If att wanted to ease congestion on its network it would offer more data plans between 300MB and 3GB. It is effectively forcing people to get the 3GB or unlimited plan. And of course once people have 3GB or unlimited they feel inclined to use it.
.
Thread moved. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.
Sounds like a good plan before they started monitoring users data so close, I am grandfathered in with unlimited data and have been tethering to my ipod for over a year, and in the last week or so I have got many messages from At&t saying they are going to auto upgrade my data plan. So with this being said I think if you’re using a ton of data with a Dumbphone they will notice.

Att gophone canceling all data packages over 50mb?

Did anyone else get this text?

$5 for 50mb is robbery.. i paid an extra $30 for 10gb on tmobile.
That message must be worded wrong. AT&T just enabled LTE on GoPhone and they are now trying to get smartphone customers on prepaid. They still have the $5, $15, and $25 plans. They definitely are not dropping all data plans but the 50mb plan. If they did that, then that would kill off smartphones on GoPhone.
Well I truly hope it's worded wrong..

I got the text today too, mine also said any auto renewals of data packages will be canceled. I only have the 200 MB plan and have only used 16 MB in 3 weeks so it looks like I still may be able to get by with only 50 MB. I'm on wifi 99% of the time now and use mobile data now strictly for emergencies only. I think AT&T is trying to push everyone into their new service, there is a thread here about it somewhere, its supposed to be a direct competitor to Net10 and StraightTalk. I didn't really like the looks of it.
I got it, I read something on CNET about how they are introducing LTE on gophone, and sometime in mid june theres supposed to be new data packages available. So I'm hoping that the new data plans are just replacing the ones that are disappearing, and having only one choice is only temporary. If not, I'm a bit screwed...

Just read the article and it says data will be LTE/HSPA+, we currently have 3G/HSPA+, so I would expect to see an increase in the price of the data plans. Their standard data plans run $20(300 MB), $30(3 GB) and $50(5 GB). I could live with that but I would assume we would need new sims to access the data and as we don't have 4G/LTE phones are we even going to be able to activate the Nexus 4 on the network? The LTE network where I live isn't band 4 so that part is out of the question but would it then default to HSPA+?

I think the plan should still support hspa+. It's like when I was on Verizon, the 4g coverage wasn't near as good as the 3g, so when I was out of 4g areas I still got 3g. Plus I could still force 3g even in a 4g area.

I found the thread about getting a 4G data plan from AT&T for the Nexus 4. I knew I read somewhere that you had to jump through a lot of hoops to get a 4G plan (not HSPA+) from AT&T for the Nexus 4. AT&T in most cases won't activate the Nexus 4 on their network as a 4G device, you have to use another 4G phones IMEI that you basically steal and use that IMEI to activate the device on AT&T. The guys at my AT&T store are pretty cool so I might be able to talk them into hooking me up with a 4G plan.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021401&highlight=at&t
It seems if you are on the $25 plan, they will only offer 50mb from now on and the only other option will be the $65 plan that includes unlimited talk/text + 1GB of data. For now these will be the only options. You have to think AT&T is going to add other options but maybe not knowing AT&T.
I have nearly $50 in my prepaid AT&T account, and I'll lose it if I cancel, but so be it. I already got burned once when I paid $25 for 1 GB of data to use for a week and it expired before my next trip even though I used less than half.
T-Mobile gets my business from now on when I cross the border. $3/day for unlimited talk/text + up to 200 MB on high speed. It's a no brainer. Afaik, TMo has good coverage over the places I visit the most by now (Boston, Buffalo, Bellingham, Bay Area).

Tried both and they suck, as has pretty much everyone in this thread but you it appears. Yeah you can get a $30 plan from T-Mobile but if you can't get a signal anywhere but on the Interstate what good is it? And ST? What a joke, you get throttled in a heart beat, customer service is non-existent and the GoPhone plans are actually about the same price so their is no deal there.

No, but when you get throttled for doing nothing, data speeds suck and are sometimes completely unusable, and have nonexistent customer service, the price difference doesn't mean anything. Plus gophone is going to give you the full att postpaid data service and speeds, meaning that you won't have a bandwidth cap. MVNO's buy data from att, I seriously doubt they are giving you the full speed that att "reserves" for their post paid customers.

You said the plans looked good. I wasn't commenting on service. The plans are not comparable to pretty much any prepaid service.
I just cancelled my t-mobile account today. I have been with them since January this year.
No signal anywhere, and I'm done with them. Data speeds are fantastic, if you can get a signal. My loss of signal is 60% with them.
I'm gong to att go phone.
Can someone tell me what I need to do to get a micro sim card to get the go phone service started???
