im not sure what you mean but android has a native folder browser "My files"
First, every rom has to have a launcher and the folder support is in every launcher. So it won't matter whatever rom you install.
Code:
System.out.println("Sent from my SGY");
Actually default Samsung Launcher doesn't have folder options. But, since creating *folder* of apps (which is just representation, and not real one) is launcher only, it's doesn't make much sense to have it cooked in the system.

Correction: the TWLauncher does have folder options.
Code:
System.out.println("Sent from my SGY");
I'm sorry, my bad.
I's so much into custom launchers (from day 1) that I didn't realized it was there.

but if we are keeping two launchers in our little internal memory then wouldn't it make our phones bulky and more power and ram consuming so wouldnt be a better option to add folders feature in our default launcher?
Like anasdcool71 said, default launcher do have the folder support. Additionally, it's the choice of Launcher that can save your internal memory. Like Holo Launcher is really light and can always stay on RAM.
Also, when a launcher is active, then the others (ideally) don't consume any memory.

I have the vibrant and wish I could do this. For people that try it, does it make the epic faster?
From what I understand about Android, this will not disable TouchWiz. What you are doing is simply changing the action of the home key. It will still be loaded into memory. It's a nice option, some people might prefer the stock android UI.
I believe installing 3rd party launchers like ADW.Launcher would do the same thing.
The mere fact that TW is not showing can be defined as disabled, no?
TW is just a skinned UI over the Android framework.
Correct, Android should automatically kill that UI after a while of no usage and no longer load it
Question??
Question once its rooted. Are u able to remove touch wiz all together rather then swapping the interface?

I don't know much about TW but im sure some ROM's will surface with TW removed
I went ahead and tried it out. When I went to the stock interface, I found several widgets that I had deleted still there. I went ahead and "trashed" all the widgets on the default UI. Then I went back to using Samsung's interface. Don't know if that saved me any memory or not...but it sure sounded good at the moment.
Ps. don't mean to hijack the thread... it seems relevant I guess.
Was wondering if this was possible on our hd2s?
I like all the htc skins parts in android (dialer, text, browser, general theme) but want launcher pro instead on the sense home screen.
I use taskiller but the sense stuff always comes back. I did a search and found this on the evo forum. Sounds good, would it mess the phone? Or not work at all?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769525
worst case scenario is that you have to start your android build again.
no danger of bricking the phone anyway......
id try it but id want sense back after 10 mins.....
what im wondering is why dont you just run a non sense android build?
was trying to get it working, but unsure how to run it? its a zip file which contains loads of other files that i cant run?
I use ADW launcher with MDJ Froyo 1.1 Matt with no problems as my default launcher and that is a sense build, it actualy runs a little smoother in my opinion.
I use Launcher Pro on top of Sense (see my build and pic below). It is fantastic. I recommend purchasing the full, as well as purchasing Beautiful Widgets (both from the market).
Fantastic custom screen and faster movement.
woks well, but with froyo I am always fighting for a bit of ram. If froyo is your type of build then launcher pro is recommended. You can still launch the radio via programs
Install your launcher of choice from the market/apk and when you click the home button you'll get a pop-up asking which one you'd like to use (sense/your other launcher). click the box saying "always use this choice" and select your launcher. Sense will close, your launcher will open and that's it, done.
You can change your option later if you regret it in your system settings.
So, what your saying is that it doesnt matter? Its just when using taskiller i see the services restarting all the time...
I'm not saying it won't stop the services from starting all the time (there's probably a way round that as well, although I've not bothered looking) but the services shouldn't use much ram anyway, and they're responsible for other background tasks, not just the graphical front end.
Yeah, I dont want to stop it all...just certain parts. Im unsure how to run the file which i posted up on the original post...any ideas? I would like to try it as it sounds ideal (you might like the sound of it yourself)
I don't think I would run that file with these builds. Go download a Nexus build if you really want no Sense. Otherwise, some files run, but take so little space it is incidental.
For example HTC Sense takes a several MB's when running as your home screen. Using Launcher Pro as default home causes that number to drop to 48kb...almost nothing.
And I would get Home Switcher from the market in case you change your mind later or need to access Sense.
So...just to confirm I cannot get rid of the sense launcher...but keep:
taskbar
dialer
skinned browser
general theme throughout
It it honestly just me that wants this haha!

Anyone knows how to dit it and ill give it a try
I tried, but dont know how...can any expert look at my original post and see?
Other parts of the xda forum ask for this...but here im told to use either sense or froyo...i want the best of both.
Hi guys,
Sorry if this seems like a silly question, but the mail app, camera apps, and customised explorer are the ONLY parts of the official Sense builds I'd actually miss.
The answer may be around somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet; is it possible to get these apps by themselves for use on a NON-SENSE ROM. So for example if I was to go to Oxygen, I'd get all the benefits of an AOSP ROM and the additional speed, but retain the customised camera, internet and mail app.
Honestly everything else I use can be downloaded from the market, its just these apps I miss when I move away from HTC/Leedroid, infact Im quite happy with Zeam as a launcher.
this has been asked and answered a million times already...
you cant run sense apps on an aosp rom - they require the sense framework to be running, which doesnt exist on a rom that doesnt include sense.
you can run a launcher such as zeam on a sense rom though, and the htc apps should work (dont think the widgets will)
Hi all!
i'm getting galaxy tab this week, (yes i'll not wait for tab2) and i'm wondering if theres a way to get the normal look of android??
i mean, i've watch tons of videos an that, and i'd love to have the normal android feel not the original that comes with tab.
i now that on htc, we can deactivate "sense" on tab is also posible??
thank you!!!
(sorry my bad english)
I think you are referring to the samsung's android "skin" called TouchWiz. You can replace it with any launcher you want: launcher pro, ADWLauncher ex, or my personal favourite Go Launcher ex.
Hi!
thanks, thats it, i want to disable touchwiz but it seems that is not possible unless i install another rom.
with launchers, its possible to reduce ram use of touchwizz, to not overload the tab.?
thankx
You do not need another rom or to be rooted to install another launcher,
I have ADW EX on the tab (usually use touchwiz though, just got it to take a look). You can just simply download it (or any other) on the market, install and then click home to "set as default".
I don't know anything more complicated like the touchwiz ram issues though, someone more expert will have to partake for that
Have fun ^_^
Thanks!!
i'll try ADW EX, i've check some videos and it seems awsome !
Hello all,
I'm been using lately mainly cm7 and MIUI roms, un the last month im running MIUI. I love the MIUI look and feel but i also like the CM7 speed and stability. the only one thing that super-annoyed me on the CM7, and in fact in all android roms, is the icons. they are terribly non uniform and non harmonic. different sizes, different look, they actually look a little "cheap" arranged in rows.
So i thought lately, let's give CM7 another try, this time with the MIUI icons. some MIUI themes have great harminic and coherent icons, like the sense theme and the 3dview wood frames which gives the device a different cool look.
I'm trying to find out where in the sd card MIUI saves the 3d party Icons. appearntly it is not trivial.. it is nor inside framework_res.apk, i dont have a data\system folder and i can't search the root directory for *.png by connecting the phone to the computer.
I'm sure MIUI don't build the icons on the run each time, it must be saved somewhere..! Any Ideas?
Any help? Or is my intentions a non spoken taboo?

You can find the themes in the .mtz file of the theme. It can be openedusing winrar. Inside you'll find a file called icons. Open that with winrar and you'll find all the icons inside.

Already tryed that, not working
in some themes (like the ones I mentioned) the theme is doing some kind of framing to the original icons. the sense theme for example makes a nice glass frame for the original icon. so you cant find the icon in advance in the theme zip, cause the icons changes from phone to phone. Instead you have some basic frames and probably some kind of instructions on how the create the themed icon from the original ones. but still, ones it is done on the phone, it has to be stored some where... that is the question, where is it??
