How not to Google Play when using diffrent roms - HD2 General

Since there are more & more New Users of the HD2 here's a simple way for you not to always go to Google Play each time & download those apps & this is also useful when you don't have any data/ WiFi connections.
As we all know our beloved HD2 is so remarkable that almost each day new roms, NAND & SD, keep on popping up & there's a new development to run SD as fast or better than NAND, Horrraayyyy for the dev's & non-dev's that keeps our HD2 alive!
BUT what if your one of those that wants a clean data.ext4 or the recovery files seems to fail or sometimes the backup just konks out?
- First download all the apps you normally would via Google Play
- then Get Android Assistant https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wxLDEsImNvbS5hZHZhbmNlZHByb2Nlc3NtYW5hZ2VyIl0.
- run the app > Tools > app Backup
- check all > backup selected, it will create an *.apk file of all the apps you downloaded & save them on SD.
- you now have all those apps in your SD & you can use them anytime you have a new ROM to try out or you don't have data/ WiFi connection at that moment.
- for SD ROMs, all you have to do is just copy the whole SD to your PC to make a backup or just the data.ext4 but be sure that all apps are inside the data.ext4.
- You can re-use the data.ext4 for updated Roms with the same build, they sometime also work with other roms, you can try to experiment
for other data/ SMS/ message there's always an app for that like the ones listed below & off course recovery
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=backup&c=apps

Thanks... I needed this actually.. Its the first time I've used anything except iphone so i dont know much about it...
Also for app data I was thinking to buy ROM Toolbox Pro..
I more thing.. How do we update the rom ? I know normally in Nand Androids, we just use clockwork and update it using the zip file. Does the same work in SD builds?

for SD you just copy the updated SD ROM & re-use the data.ext4 from the previous version, sometimes that data.ext4 will work with different builds, you can give it a try no harm done as long as you have a backup/ copy in your PC

the method above is also useful when using the NativeSD method if you have like 10ROMS in one SD you just point your installer to the Android Assistant_Backup folder to install your app for the given ROM
Not yet sure if there is already a way to have a common folder/ installer for all ROMs though.

This is the 2.1 Eris OTA(JULY) With Root, A2SD, and Overclocking.
This is for people that like the SENSE UI, and have lots of apps.
I was using PLAINJANE and filled up the internal Memory, so I went about looking for a way to keep the rom and have all my apps.
Presenting PlainJaneT2 V2.0 Screenies attached New Fonts!
Change Log:
Code:
[B][U]PlainJaneT2 v1.0[/B][/U]-Added A2sd to Original PlainJane from Jcase.
[U][B]PlainJaneT2 v1.1-1.4[/B][/U]-Various Deodexed Versions of
the Rom that never were made public.
[U][B]PlaingJaneT2 v2.0[/B][/U]
-Based on JULY OTA
- Fully Deodexed without any FC (This was a Killer to figure out...)
- Added the Newest A2sd Preview 4
-Added Scripts to rom to enable ext mounting on linux
systems, get cpu Info, make system folder rw, and the ability to
zipalign all apks.
-Added Modified boot screen.
-Changed Default Fonts.
-Made it all stock (some People were asking to leave the apps untouched.
^^(I made a flash zip you can you use to get rid of the all BloatWaredelete)
Remember to BACKUP your sdcard before doing the step below!!!.
Things you need to know and do.
How to set up your sd card for a2sd:
Code:
1. Boot into recovery
2. Scroll down to PARTITION SDCARD
3.Click On PARTITION SD
4.Click trackball to confirm
5.Select Swap size 32mb is fine
6.Select ext size (I did 768mb you don't have to make it that big)
7.Click again to partition sd card.
8.Go to PARTITION SD menu and choose SD:ext2 to ext3
This New A2sd Makes it so when you go to the data/app folder, it actually takes you to the /system/sd/app folder. So when you use Root Explorer to look at the data/app folder you are actually looking at the /system/sd/app folder.
You know you are in the /system/sd/app folder in root Explorer because at the very top it says something like this "92.88MB used 593.51MB free" as we all know the Eris doesn't have that much space in the data/app folder. The space in the data/app folder might still be going down because the cache isn't moved to the sd card by default, if you want to change this you can change it yourself.
For a2sd help:
Code:
adb shell
su
a2sd help
Use of scripts:
Code:
Go into terminal emulator or adb and run these scripts
-"sys -rw" Will Make system Read and Write
-"sys -ro "Will Make system Read Only"
-"usb -e" Will mount Sdcards Partitions" On linux
systems will mount the EXT partition. Sorry windows people.
"usb -d" Will unmount the sdcard Partitions..
-"cpuinfo" Will give you the OverClock settings,
giving you the max, min, and what you have it set to.
-"zipalign_apks" Does just that zipalign all apks.
To change the over clocking settings Download Setcpu from this thread Here
Remember to Wipe Factory/cache Before flashing this rom.

This rom is heavy, just over 100MB. You have to realize though that this is not an AOSP or even SLIGHTLY Vanilla rom, its completly stock based.
The fact that its Sense based is also going to have some effect on battery life. Don't expect to come from White Widow and see the same kind of battery life.
This rom also takes a HELL of a long time on first boot. Thats because of the de-odexed files.
[SIZE="4"]Installation[/SIZE]
Wipe data/dalvik and flash like normal from recovery.
If you experience FC's on the first boot, you may need to wipe your SD-ext. This can be done from the Recovery Menu under the "wipe" sub-section.

-Make a backup of everything on your SD card.

Mmm send me a pm and I'll try to help you out. Did you partition your sd card? That's the only thing I can think that will cause a boot loop.

Good release ....forgot how smooth Sense can be
Quick question about a2sd: Say you flash to another ROM that also uses a2sd. Do you have to delete any app data on the sd or does the new ROM overwrite it, or neither? LOL. Thanks for this ROM! just flashed and will let you know if there are any issues.
One random reboot. Used my phone for a sec, set it down, looked over and heard the vibrate and it was rebooting.

I have been using this rom for a while now and havent had reboots, If you didn't wipe the EXT partition its probably what caused it because most rom's are using the old version of a2sd and not the new one and it might be causing reboots.
If it reboots again let me know so i can see what's causing it.
Had another reboot. Before I flashed, I setup my storage card exactly as your instructions said. Only thing is, how do you know if the apps are being installed on the sd? If I go to data/ there is no app folder but there is in sd/data. Also I read on the darktremor thread about davlik cache decreasing and that can also be moved to storage card. Not sure how to do that though. I know it's not your ROM. Maybe I should try completely wiping and partitioning the card again?
edit: Removed sd card from device and installed apps lose icons and FC. So I guess they are installed to sd. Only thing is the phone rebooted when I reinserted the sd card. Suggestions? Thanks for your help man!!
edit: Oh man it's actually an endless reboot. What to do....
edit: Did a battery pull while it was looping and it booted up fine. No clue whats going on. I'll let you know if it reboots again. Oh man also, after the successful boot, my cd card seems corrupted. In astro, every item is just lines and square with file type "2". I'm going to wipe, repartition and try again.... wish me luck!!

Yeah its bad to pull sdcard while the phone is on because thats where all your apps are installed on, if you pull card your phone will look for the apps but wont find them thus causing the fc's
I would do a clean flash and wipe because it sounds like you messed up your sdcard when you pulled it. I've been running this rom for about a week and haven't had a reboot or anything like that.
Make sure you backup your sdcard if you don't want to loose any of your pictures and stuff.
EDIT: make sure you do a ext wipe also.

Hey t2noob! Well I think I have it this time. I was worried that somehow my sd card was trashed. I was trying to wipe the ext and recovery was giving me an error saying that it was unable to wipe. I had to wipe it using ADB. I completely wiped like 3 times, repartitioned, flashed, and everything seems to be ok. I'm thinking my sd card is possibly on it's way out. Also, I'm hesitant to try putting the Davlik cache on the card. I'll check back in tomorrow if there are any issues. Everything else seems fine though. Do you know of anyway to check and see if there is an issue with the sd card or do they just crap out when their time is up?

I'm not a dev. I'm just a curious user that want to learn, fail, search, retry, fail again and then succeed also thanks to people here that helped me with tips and knowledge sharing
This is a personal build made for my self, based on DESIRE HD.
Is 90% stock, % battery indicator and some animations/icons.
It's fully DEODEXED so you can theme it as you want.
I tried also to keep most of the apps, wallpapers and other stuff in it.
But most important it uses DATA.IMG on SDCARD so you dont have to worry about storage limite on LEO512
Please note: this, as happenend whe using Android from SD, could cause data corruption and causes a little lag during app installation. There is nothing I can do to solve those two issues. You are warned!

INSTRUCTIONS
- You need at least MAGLDLR 1.10
- Download the Data size package you want
- Unzip it and copy all the content to your SD root respecting the folder structure. Insert the SD in the HD2
IF YOU NOT DO THIS BEFORE, YOUR INSTALLATION WILL FAIL
IF YOU ARE ON A 1024 LEO YOU CAN AVOID THIS.
- Download the RAFDROID HD package
- Unzip it on your computer, enter in MAGDLR bootloader, choose USB flasher, connect your HD2 to your computer and use INSTALL.EXE
- Wait the rebooting. Keep always the SD inside.
- First install takes up to 5 min
- Enjoy
- As all HD build, initially this will be slugghis and lagging, specially if you select to restore your google settings. The build will become fast after some hours and a couple of reboots.

WARNING 1) Data system changed between RafDroid HD1 and RafDroid HD2. Now you need a "config.txt" in the data2sd folder. I suggest to old 1.0 users to download the new packages here to be sure that all works.
WARNING 2) I assure compatibility only with 512 and 1024 data images. Using bigger images, specially more than 2gb, could cause issues (no boot, errors installing apps...)
WARNING 3) I suggest always to start with a fresh data.img. Anyway you can try too keep your old data.img but I cannot assure you that you will have no bugs. Important is to keep the "data2sd" folder with the config.txt inside.

If you need more space, you can replace the data.img with ones bigge but I NOT SUGGEST THIS. We have clues that data.img bigger than 2gb causes issues. So please, if you want to avoid bugs, stay with 1gb maximum that is plenty space for everything.

Anyhow, because some one pm'ed me asking to donate, and becouse I spent a lot of time in this, if you want to buy me a coffee for all the time I spent, you can do this here DONATE
Anyway I would suggest to donate to Cotulla and DFT team and other devs.
BE ADVISED: THIS BUILD, CAUSE IT'S SIZE, WILL WORK ONLY WITH THIS METHOD OF DATA2SD. IT'S TOO BIG TO WORK WITHOUT IT. EXCEPT FOR 1024 LEO WHER IT *SHOULD*(MUST BE TESTED) WORK WITHOUT DATA.IMG
If you want DesireHD standard fonts, download this package and replace the entire /system/fonts content with the ones included, using droid explorer or adb, after first boot
http://www.multiupload.com/5EXLIPO3N4
If you want the stock look this is the stock framework-res.apk. i will not explain how to mess with it, google if you dont know. anyway be careful. messing with this file could cause loop reboots and you will have to reflash

q) I'm having high battery drain
a) Try reboot. Try disabling gps in location. As you can see from the screenshot I have 4mA with WIFI active! Also be careful. If during google account setup you choose to backup/restore all your data, the sync process will be dramatic heavy because it has to reinstall all your apps. It could need a couple of hours to settle. Also high battery drain could be caused by SD. try another one.
q) It's really laggy!!!!
a) as all Desire HD builds this is BIG! This needs at least 10-15 minutes after boot to be usable. Then try to use it for 5-6 hours.. and do a couple of reboots.. you will see that the speed will improve. After 24 hours of use and 4-5 rebots this will be really fast.
q) I have no GPS or the fix is really slow
a) Firs fixt can take up to 5 minutes. just wait. If still not works, try to change the gps zone in the config.txt (read below)
q) I have low quadrant scores
a) yes, this is true. This is because data sync is enabled by default. You can try to disable it but this will give you more risks of data corruption.
q) Can I unmount the SD while in use or connect the phone as mass storage to my pc while in use
a) No. This will cause data corruption. Power down the pone and use an SD card reader to copy your files.
q) I have no SU permission!!!
a) Install z4root (google for it) and execute permaroot. Reboot.
q) It not boots
a) be sure that the ".config" file is in your SD on the root. and there is also the folder "data2sd" with "data.img" inside. If still no boot, try to reformat your SD card, copy the img again, and retry.
q) I have no data/3G/HSDPA
a) probably you have to set your apn manually. google it for tips on how to do and what settings are need for your carrier
q) How do I remove BOOTSOUND / How do I change bootanim
a) bootsound and bootanim are located in /system/etc/customer. Just delete android_audio.mp3 if you dont want sound
ABOUT THE CONFIG.TXT FILE

You can change some parameters directly in the config.txt before booting:
Code:
data_sd=0
- 0, default, use nand userdata, THIS WILL CAUSE NO BOOT for 512 LEO
- 1, enable external data.img support (/sdcard/data2sd/data.img)
data_size=512
- size of data.img, only work when data.img support enabled and first install if you dont have a data.img.. it will create for you. No need to specify it if you already have a data.img in the data2sd folder
data_sync=1
- 0, fast, default, disable sync option when mount data.img MAY CAUSE DATA CORRUPTION. I SUGGEST TO NOT USE THIS
- 1, safe, enable sync option when mount data.img, use this if experiencing data corruption
lcd_density=240
- size of icons
gps_zone=europe
- country string for better gps fix. you can find your country code here [URL="http://www.pool.ntp.org/zone/@"]http://www.pool.ntp.org/zone/@[/URL]

thanks for replying
why you're not using latest Ace RUU (RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3)?
you can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879375
isnt it better to have PPP rather than RMNET because RMNET is slower.
having said that, has there been a fix for PPP because im lossing network bar frequently.
BTW thanks for the build, will be testing it out soon
When is this boiled going to be out? I wanna try out this build as I can't seems to install much of applications on any otherbrom asnitbonly gives me less then 100mb. And nownthe current remaining soqcenisnlessnthen ten mb. Can't waitbto try out a new and a better rom. How aboutbthe cam coder is the quality better?

Good work Raf, been waiting for this. I've downloaded the data package and was wondering if it will be possible to use my old data.img file from another SD HD build and possibly use a 2GB data.img file too?

Dont know.. maybe there will be bugs, but try it.. if this not work or you have bugs, delete all things from SD, reflash NAND, and start again
about 2gb data, yes, you can. just replace the file. I will upload 2GB and 4GB for convenience, later as soon I have time
This build will be awesome when it runs correctly... Is it right, it uses for data the data.img on the sd card, when you release a new uodate we can safe our data and can make a update without loosing my apps ? This will be great news ?!
so will all my texts get saved to the sd card?
as on other NAND builds my phone can barely operate after a couple days use due to insufficient storage.
also, what determines whether I should get the 512MB or 1024MB data package?

Not true, atleast not for me. (the build i use in my sig)
Sinds NAND rmnet is as fast for me as ppp, same up and download speed.
In the time with sd card builds ppp was faster for me,now not (for me)
Just test it with speedtest.net app in the market for free

[Q] Why so much CW hate ?

Starting this thread again as my previous one was deleted during the board's transformation yesterday...but I think it's important to bring up the subject.
Coming from an older Android terminal (Htc Magic), I still don't understand how so few dev's out there are actually using ClockworkMod Recovery for their ROM. I know, a lot of you come from WM 6.5, where USB-Flash was the only way to go but now things have changed ! If you are fan enough of Android to be willing to flash it completely to the Nand, wiping WinMo6.5, then go with it and start flashing your ROMS the Android way. The CW way !
As a reminder, CW allows to :
- Flash your ROMS from the SD card. Imagine you want to flash a new ROM but have to leave for 2 days without a computer; it's not a problem ! Put it on the SD card and flash it later !
- Easily implement new kernels or updates. Doing so, dev's can propose completely clean build with the option to flash as many add-on's, updates, kernels or fixes you want. Look here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810471. You can't make it easier.
- Partition your SD card with an ext partition the size you want without the need of a software or a linux-based iso. If you are a Windows user, that's a huge time saver !
- Back-up ans restore. That's a HUGE bonus. Want to flash a new ROM ? Back-up all your current ROM (5 minutes), then flash the new one. Don't like after all ? Restore your backup in 5 minutes...
- For me (and here, I'm not my saying it's always the case, just FOR ME), sd data transfer through CW is two times faster than through MAGLDR.
- Many more...
The same goes for EXT. Using data.img is outdated, it's another WinMo days leftover. Ext is actually mounted as an internal memory, allowing Sense Roms. And the apps installed there won't need to be reinstalled every updates...
It's tough for a Android user like myself to find a proper ROM/Zip with data2ext support these days. Pretty much MDJ, thank God for him. It seems that there a lot of ROMS to choose from but actually there isn't. Especially when the DAF to ZIP tool from the board doesn't work with all the DAF's releases (most of the time it's actually the releases that are not made right).
So please, be an Android user and make the step. It's like you found the door but are afraid to come in...
Just go and read the CW tutorial thread if you are unsure. I'll be willing to help also...

[FAQ]The Blade FAQ thread

Hi
An FAQ thread for Blade users.
Credits to StevenHarperUK
This is a guide to cover most of the common problems.
It contains some words like ROM and Build.props and RECOVERY. PM me if u can't understand anything
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--I want to know whet generation of phone I have
[GEN1] or [GEN2]
There are now 2 Generations of the ZTE-BLADE device. Each have a different style memory
layout.[GEN1] BLADES use the baseband of 0x02A00000 and can use all of the ROMS made [GEN2]
BLADES use the baseband of 0x02600000 Trying to install a GEN1 ROM onto a GEN2 device will
brick it. GEN1 devices can be recovered and converted with a TPT
--How to find out what BLADE you have (GEN1 or GEN2)
You need to install this app Ask Mr Pigfish When you run the APP the first line will be
Mr.Pigfish says you have a Gen1 model
--How do i root my phone
ZTE Blades with Android 2.2 or lower can be rooted using z4root mod. If it doesnt work, or you have 2.3
blade there is a How to root thread in the Blade Android Development section
--How do i install a rom
-Download the Rom
-Download GoogleAps (CyanogenMod only)
-Backup your data using software like Titanium Backup
-Install clockworkmod recovery from Rom manager
-Boot into recovery (Power + volume down)
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache
-install zip from sdcard option ---> select your rom
-do the same for GoogleApps
-reboot (first boot takes a while)
--The Custom ROM wont Boot Properly. Gets Stuck at the Animated/non-animated boot
screen.
This can be because of a few things You have installed a new ROM and need to clear you cache
and factory reset You installed a Theme or patch without letting the new Custom ROM boot
first The ROM you flashed was damaged when downloading - check with md4sum - re-download and
re-flash. Your SD card is in a very bad state Your SIM has a pin card (effects some of the
early 2.2)
--I want to change my partition sizes
Doing this will require a TPT. These can be made or downloaded using the App TPT helper from
the Play Store ( as of now, there is NO TPT for Chinese Blades )
--I Want to send my Phone back to the Operator - how do I make it back to stock?
The best way to do this is to run a TPT which has been made for your operator's original
ROM. A TPT that is built to do this restores the phone to exactly as it comes out of the
factory. This includes BOOT, RECOVERY and SYSTEM partitions. The DATA and CACHE are also
wiped.
--I can not get into Recovery (clockworkmod)
Make sure you are pressing (and holding) the Volume Down button (-). If you Just see some
large text of FTM then you have not installed a Custom Recovery Image yet
--Phone cannot READ/Mount SD Card
1)SD Card is Damaged
2)Card is not formatted correctly. Download - MiniTool Partition Wizard
3)Card not Seated correctly in Holder
4)The Card needs cleaning : take it out and carefully clean it with alcohol (and a
cottonbud)
--Fastboot can not Install ClockworkMod
If you get waiting for device Check USB debugging is on.On windows check drivers. On others,
check your running as root and try other USB ports/ cables. Try using ADB Wireless from the
market. If you get "writing 'recovery': FAILED (status read failed (Protocol error))
android" change the usb cable, and try another USB port.
--I want to get rid of the inbuilt apps but don't feel comfortable installing a ROM
This is possible, you gain root on the device, then use tools to remove the apps. Eg: Root Uninstaller or Titanium Backup
--Have I got TFT or OLED?
Well if you have a UK device you may have OLED If you purcashed it in 2011 you almost
certainly have TFT Both are good- but having a TFT device means that you must avoid non-TFT
compatibe ROMS (All new ROMs are TFT friendly)On some ROMS you can use the Dialer to find
out. Dial *983*24474636# in the dialer. On the Stock Orange ROM Devices that have TFT
Screens have the build Number OUK_P729BV1.0.0B08 (OLED can have this buid also - but rarely)
Devices that have OLED Screens have the build Number OUK_P729BV1.0.0B0. The build Number can
be found in - Settings | About Phone | Build Number
--How can I keep my apps and settings when I install a new ROM?
Before installing a new ROM you can use Titanium Backup to backup all apps you have
installed. After the new ROM has been installed you can restore the apps plus their data (to
keep your Angry Birds progress and scores, for example). The paid-for version of Titanium
Backup allows you backup and then restore many/all apps with the batch command to save time
reinstalling each app individually.
In general, system settings should not be restored on a new ROM. Restoring them can undo the
effect of wiping data/restoring to factory settings before you flashed the new ROM and you
run the risk of incompatible settings causing forced closure of system apps or, even worse,
random reboots of the phone. Contacts can be restored automatically (and safely) by syncing
with your gmail account(settings->accounts & sync and turn on both sync options) - you need
to do this in your old ROM so the data is in place before you install the new ROM. Many
people have reported that SMSs can be restored safely between most ROMs with Titanium
Backup, but other system settings, e.g. wireless access points, may cause problems that may
require the ROM to be reflashed. In all cases you should always use Nandroid backup in
Clockwork to save the state and settings of your previous ROM which will easily allow you to
return to a working state of your previous ROM in case things go wrong.
--How do I remove a custom theme I installed on any ROM, without factory reset?
Simply Re-flash the original ROM over the top in Clockwork. You'll get the original theme
back.
--I want to install a ROM, but remove some of the
included APPs
Simply open the ZIP file you downloaded and browse to /system/app Then remove the APPS you
don't want - be careful, you don't want to remove apps like mms.apk (SMS) and Phone.apk
--Orange SIM card will not make calls, other networks SIM cards work
The phone, as delivered by Courier is barred from OrangeUK's own network until "activated"
If you buy your phone from an Orange shop they are activated (unbarred from the Orange
network) and handed to the purchaser.
--Phone won't boot - only vibrates when I press power
When you try to turn the phone on with the power button you just feeling a quick succession
of vibrations. This means there is not enough power in the battery to boot. Make sure your
phone is plugged into the Adapter and is using the supplied USB cable.
--Wifi Keeps dropping
On 2.1 and leaked 2.2 ROMS - wifi is a real problem. There are many different work-rounds;
however now the kernel source for 2.2 is released - new ROMs don't gave it. Alternatively
there's a Blade wifi fix app available
--Phone wont turn on. It just Buzzes and red light is on back button
Try charging with another cable - your phone is out of battery
--The phone is Not connecting to 3G/ Cant get Data/ Cant send MMS, etc.
If you cannot get data over 2g/3g then your APN setting may be wrong You edit the APN's in
Setting / Wireless & Network Settings / Mobile Network settings / GSM/UMTS Options / Access
Point Names / then click the phones MENU button (hard button) then choose Add APN.
Also check your SIM is 3G
--I am trying to unlock the phone, how do I get to the enter code screen
You can only see this screen by putting in a SIM that is not the same as the ROM you have
expects So if you have a Orange TFT device that is on the standard (stock) ROM, you will
need a SIM that is not Orange (Virgin/TMobile) Once you insert a SIM that is not unlocked
you get the ENTER code screen
--The Phone Wont Read Any SIM Cards
Thickening the SIM with layers of tape (on the non useful side) has proven to work
--Cant make outgoing calls when Wifi is ON
The icon on the the top bar shows 4 reception bars gets a small x on it, the red led flashes
and outgoing calls cannot be made. Switched to airplane mode and back returns the signal -
it only ever does it when wifi is on. This is probably because you are running one
of the leaked Chinese beta kernels. Running a ROM that has a new 2.2 source
Kernel will fix this.
--What is an MD5hecksum
MD5 is a way of checking that the file you have downloaded has not been corrupted in any
way. when you run the MD5sum command against a files the response is the files
"fingerprint". If this differs from the expected MD5, then you need to re-download the file.
MD5 can be checked directly on the device by using a file manager like astro - if you look
at the details of a file an MD5 is generated Windows
Get your md5sum utility from:
http://www.md5summer.org/md5sum.zip
Extract this Zip file contents and put them into the folder you want to run the command in.
--I want to change the files in the system partition
To do this you can use ADB to modify files or Root Explorer
--I Used Factory Reset now my Phone wont boot
Custom ROM resets are best done in clockwork. However you may have problems with
Unsigned Themes. If you have a theme Installed, you may need to re-install the Original ROM
over the top to get it to boot.
--I want to change how my phone's screen looks like / Theme my phone
In any ROM you can change your background(click the MENU hard button when in the home
screen). However some custom ROMs have themes
made for them. There is a whole section on themes and Apps for the ZTE Blade - However the
most themes are specifically matched to a single or a few ROM's. Some themes are simply
applied to launchers that support them - i.e. launcher pro.
Other need to be installed via Clockwork just like a normal ROM - for these you should
always boot the ROM before applying the theme. Also you should always do a clockwork
(nandroid) backup before applying a theme.
--I dont like the keyboard I have
Keyboards on Android can be swapped. To change a keyboard - Activate it in Settings >
Language and Keboard Then in ANY app do a long hold in any text areas wich wold normall show
the keybaord - then choose Input Method
--Bluetooth file Transfer doesn't work properly
Plain vanilla Android has seemingly limited general file transfer capabilities. You can
download market APPS that are far superior. Bluetooth File Transfer (free) Astro File
Manager (free) add the Astro Bluetooth module (free)
--I want to use A2SD but what do I do
Firstly you need a ROM that supports A2SD, next you need to know if it support EXT2/3/4. Now
you need to change the way your SDCard is Partitioned. In Ubuntu use GParted - in Windows
get the home version of partition wizard. Now Copy EVERYTHING off the SD Card. Make the
FIRST partition the FAT32 one (primary partition) - leave 512MB or more for the EXT2/3/4
(where apps will be installed) Now Make Another partition (must be the SECOND) as EXT2/3/4 -
also make this primary. Now mount the Card and copy all your data back to the FAT32 Part -
assuming it fits. When you install/next boot you ROM, the EXT2/3/4 partition will be mounted
as DATA / this is where your apps go from now on.
--I have bought a bigger SD Card and want to swap it into my Phone
If your just using FAT32 (no app2sd) this will be easy. Right Simple - mount the current one
over USB on your Computer (you can do this in Android - or in Clockwork) Copy everything off
onto your computer. Unmount and Swap new card into phone. Remount over USB. Copy everything
back on
--I am upgrading my ROM and don't want to lose my contacts
If you sync your contacts via Google (gmail account), then the contact will be re-
downloaded when you re-enter your Google Account after flashing. You can see your accounts
in Menu > Settings > Account & Sync Otherwise you can go into the Contacts App and choose
Menu > Import Export. The Export will made a new large file with all your contacts in. This
will be written to the root of your SD Card. Import will scan your SD Card and look for any
files that are contact backups.
--I set a BAD SSID in the Wifi Hotspot - now I cannot start Tethering
If you set a SSID on your hotspot to be too long (over 32 characters) or with non valid
characters - then you make it impossible to start the Hotspot. You MUST use ADB to edit the
hotspot name manually
: adb -d shell
: sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.provid
If sqlite3 is not installed on your ROM you can download titanium backup from the market
then use the alternate command
:adb -d shell
:/data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBack
--I want to import all my contacts into Gmail - so they can sync with my phone
Google dont tell you anywhere what the Magic format is of their CSV. Copy the first line
from below, then simply add all the contacts you need into the format of the
2nd line Most Spreadsheet programs will let you open the CSV and edit it. Then just import
the file into Google Contacts (selecting a group when you do it) - I suggest a new group.
--How do i get ICS on my phone
There is no official ics for the blade, however, There are several ics roms to choose from. However there is no perfect release and all of them have certain bugs and issues.
--Can I boot more than one rom on a ZTE Blade
Thanks to [email protected], Snap.IT and Jinxxed, this is now possible. Head over to the Blade Android Development subforum to see the threas
September 21st : ZTE BLADE DAY
Guys feel free to reply with corrections and suggestions so that I can add then to the OP
Thanks to yash_p90 and karthiknr for assistance
good job is helpfull
Nice.
Good job. You should probably do some formatting. I can help you with that if you want!
Please note that there is no method available to change the partition size on the Chinese Blades. Thus the TPT method won't work. You must mention this in your question "I have changed my partition sizes to have a 128MB system, I want to change it back"
/Sticked. I hope this and the Faq thread I stickied yesterday will offer easy accessible information and resources to the ZTE Blade users. I hope you guys appreciate QuantumFoam and karthiknr effort.

I already replied to ur thread in the General Forum

I've a ZTE V889D bought from China. Is this Blade version? When I run Mr Pigfish, it says unknown model. It has similar spec:
http://www.zte.com.cn/cndata/mobile/mobileinfo/201203/t20120329_298335.html
No, that's not a blade. It uses MSM7227A as CPU, that is an ARMv7 (blade uses MSM7227 that is ARMv6). Blade in China is called V880 and that version has only 256mb RAM ( http://www.dealextreme.com/p/zte-v8...dma-3g-single-sim-w-wifi-white-101744?item=24 )
Your phone should be the ZTE Skate Acqua: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3403&c=zte_skate_acqua or something very close to it (looks like that V889D has dual sim support, but official Skate Acqua shouldn't have it).

Thanks Quantum !
Few things were total new. Like bluetooth file transfer capability, I thought it's only Blade that is having limited bluetooth profile.
Also can you add a question about swap. I know only poor (256MB RAM) fellows like myself are going to benefit. No issues for me for one plus week of usage without a reboot.

[maybe a howto] Running latest MIUI ICS on HD2

As JB is new to HD2, I decided to install ICS, and the ROM I love, is MIUI. so here is how I did it, maybe others like me are willing to install miui android 4 versions
# before first(!) you must know how to prepare your winmo HD2 to be able to run Android. so search the forums here, and find out!
# I have CLK 1.5 installed on my HD2. I don't know how to use MAGDLR. this how-to is based on clk.
I'm not reponsible for the damages you might do to your device. do this on your own risk.
0- repartition your SDcard by a partition manager. to have a 1)data partition, 2)1024MB or 512mb ext4 partition, 3)128MB swap space. I use gparted in Linux.
1- download the latest ICS version of MIUI roms form here
This is a nonEnglish webpage, you should click on the white button to download the ROM. then copy the zip file to your SDcard
The further versions are JB, not ICS, which are less stable and still under development. I feel ICS roms are more stable for HD2.
2- Turn off your HD2, then turn it on, while holding back btn (next to the power btn). here, go to the "settings" and change the system partition to 240mb, and cache partition to 10mb
3- Then reboot and go to the Recovery to install the ROM on NAND.
4- After installation complete, MIUI just run and everything is OK except language and wifi.
# to change the language which is chinees, follow these steps:
open the settings. (tap on the settings Icon!)
go to the right panel
come down to see a keyboard icon. it's under the clock icon
tap on the keyboard icon, and then tap on the first option. then you can change the language to English.
# wifi cannot find networks. to fix this, first you should install a file manager which can do ROOT jobs. I use Solid Explorer. root explorer can also do the job.
download this attachment. and extract AND OVER WRITE fw_bcm4329.bin INTO "SYSTEM/VENDOR/FRAMEWORK". more info here.
Extra Settings:
# I don't like this huge icons. I used to install Hyperdroid ROMS which had a smaller lcd density, and I feel it was more eye candy. to make this back, open build.prop in /system and find this line: ro.sf.lcd_density=240 and change the value to 200. lower values causes problem. 200 is just ok.
5- If you like to remove the carrier text and some other extra settings, you should flash ControlPanelSuite.
download the proper version from here and copy the zip file to the SDcard. now reboot to the Recovery and install this zip file. Then you'll have a "control panel" app icon and can change extra settings.
6- I use Gmail and Gtalk, which are not included in miui. Download Talk.apk & gmail.apk from this post and move them to /system/app folder by your root file manager. and change the permissions to be like other apps there. Then download the lib files, and copy them to /system/lib and fix the permissions. (if you don't use videochat from gtalk, it's not necessary)
7- Install Link2SD. it's a good tool to move apps specially games to the ext partition. I don't like the native app2SD script in ROMs which link the whole apps to te ext. because if you remove sdcard, every thing begins to force close. because they were all on the ext partition. but in Link2SD you can keep important apps in the internal memory and link games or whatever you want to the ext partition.
8- any body has a good camera app?!
Why is this in the dev section?

MIUI wad my favorite rom. The problem is that with GB roms, there is no HWA. So I tried to do what you said here, but it seems very slow too, more than GB roms. Do you have the same problem ?
