NS4G Crespo modem patches for CM10 nightlies - Epic 4G General

Do not try to flash the same modem patch for the next cm10 nightly update. You can use the same kernel patch but you will need the modem update as well... I will update modem patches for the nightlies as soon as they come out. They shall be in the development section. In the ns4g modem nightlies thread. I have posted the modem patch for the 2012904 cm10 nightly build already.

no service
i apologize for my noob question but every time i try to install the crespo modem, it brings me to no service. i am currently running fine on the stock modem with CM10 nightly official 0905.
here are my steps. i have tried it half a dozen different ways and it still seems that once i flash the blobspatch, it puts me into no service.
I am currently on 0905 nightly w stock modem
1) clear cache/davlik
2) flash blobspatch-presojus <<i believe right after this step i always go to no service>>
3) flash zkernal-presojus
4) flash NS4G 0905 build crespo modem patch
5) reboot
i have done it with reboots in different places such as in between blobspatch and zkernal. as well as just after zkernal... i just cant seem to get it to work. i have done it with a clean install of the rom first too. nothing seems to work. i noticed that right after the blobspatch i lose service. sorry for my noobness but any ideas? am i doing something wrong?

Try this...
1. Flash the CM10 Preview
2. Gapss 4.1.1
3. A ns4g modem. From didhiy the steps xboxfanj provides
4. Then the 905 nightly
5. Then gapps again
6. Then the kernel patch by didhiy
7. Then my modem patch.
This should work... do a dirty flash from the preview though

JM7 Release on i9000

Hey all,
XWJM7 has been released:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770821
Follow the usual instructions.. e.g. flash this ROM and CSC, then flash the Captivate Kernel (both with Odin) and reboot.
I just flashed it... much like JM6 Looking forward to some GPS testing!

btw SRE for JM6 works on this i already did that.
Yup, been running it since last night. Not bad. Haven't messed with GPS yet, but I've learned not to get my hopes up haha
sounds like i should jump on the bandwagon
What's the difference between the FJM6 and WJM6? I'm running the FJM6 now..
Which modem R u using?? I'll go back to stock and apply this FW. did u install the stock kernel?? thx
Edit: BTW where can I get SRE for this FW??
I assume for us captivate users we still have the same sound, button and auto rotate probs?

Not if you flash the Captivate kernel after flashing the JM7 ROM... this ROM is still a 2.1 ROM, which we have a Captivate kernel for.

I don't think there is a working SRE for this ROM.. you have to use the basic update.zip from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728754
Luckily, this ROM already enables side-loading, doesn't have AT&T crap etc.
Yeah if you flash the captivate kernel you get around the autorotate issues.
I personally am using the I9000 kernel with autorotate disabled and a JG8 modem file so I can use HSUPA =P - it does make using update.zip packages a fiasco though.

You can flash Captivate kernel to get rid of all the annoying issues.
This is the SRE from JM6
http://www.multiupload.com/8IYQ3VKHR0
i used that it worked perfectly, you need to flash the Captivate kernel to do this since I9000 kernel doesnt allow us to apply updates from recovery.
All international firmwares come with sideloading enabled. AT&T is literally the only company that blocks it =P (that I know of)

if you flash a Captivate kernel & modem.

I just pulled the regular stock I9000 kernel, pulled it from the JPC root thread, I'm pretty certain they're the same kernel build.
http://www.multiupload.com/GJEZ1OT9NN
You'll have to pull the tar out of there, it's pretty well marked, if you want to compare kernel builds though mine reads:
2.6.29

Sorry for the Noob question (long time Linux guy, but short time Android guy), but...
What CSC is best for the U.S. of A?
and
Are we just flashing the rom and kernel, or should be also flash the modem?
Thanks.

AOSP Questions

Bear with me guys......haven't posted much on here, more of a lurker.
I have been following the AOSP Rom for the Fascinate for the last two weeks and now with the MMS working I would love to give it a shot. I have a couple of questions before I get started.
I am currently running ComRom 2.1 with the PBJ-50 Kernel. No themes or anything like that.
1. Is it safe to just do a data wipe and factory reset then just install the Rom over top of what I have?
2. Is there a Kernel and a Modem with the ROM?
3. Anything special I need to know if I decide to go back to another Rom (from what I have read just ODIN back to stock and Rom away)?
Sorry if these have been answered already.....I searched and did not find my answers. Thank you for your time.

1. I couldn't answer this with certainty as I haven't flashed it myself and haven't yet dug through the CM7 thread in development to put together correct steps
2. yes there is, but you can flash a custom kernel like OTB or the gingerbread leaks' (ec09) modem as I've seen these work though not for everyone
3. as far as I know all you need to do to go back is just odin back to eclair/froyo with the 2.2 atlas pit file and proceed from there
don't have any experience with CM7 other than what I've read so someone who's done it could probably shed more light on this
tapatalked from my GINGERBANGED Fascinate
I just flashed cm7 today...
1. Data wipe, cache and factory reset should be enough. You need to download and install the 7/04 build, let it boot up and reboot back into recovery and then install the 7/13 build and then the gapps. There is also a modified cwm that you can flash to your phone that's been edited for cm7 not everyone uses it but I did and it works perfectly.
2. There is a kernel included but alot of people have better audio quality with one of the otb kernels.
There isn't a modem. But it seems like most of the newer modems are fine so your current one with comrom is probably good.
3. To do back to stock youll have to use a full odin package. But you probably won't want to anyway.

Thank you for the answers. Now I am more comfortable. Thanks.
Not sure how important it is, but I would wipe cache and dalvik as well. I used ED04 modem for a while, and switched to EC09 modem after everyone seemed to recommend it for the MTD roms. TBH, I havent noticed much difference between the 2 radios, they both worked well for me. As far as flashing back to a TW rom, check the sticky in the dev section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391
I am already running the EC09 modem. Have been for about a week or so. I watched as others have had good luck with it so I made the jump. I probably will stick with the EC09 as it seems to work fine with AOSP MIUI Rom that I want to try. I tried the EC09 on my wife's fascinate and it ran like crap.....kind of funny how two different build dates run to differently.

Flashing new radio in conjunction with new kernel

So I just took the plunge and got off stock sense and moved to CM7. Couldn't be happier. I've heard to run pershoot's kernel as an upgrade, but to do that, you need radio 1.008 or whatever it is. I'm on 1.07.blah.blah
I've never flashed a radio before. I'm a little nervous. I guess firstly...I'd like to know if there are any advantages in both flashing a new kernel (pershoots) and/or a new radio? Can someone explain both...or if I really even need to upgrade my kernel from CM7's stock kernel?
I havn't had an radio issues yet...and I'm assuming a new radio would yield better signal strength, etc...but again, never done it. Any advantages to flashing pershoots? Thanks in advance
The radio may or may not give you better reception, few people got it, I upgrade and was still rocking my -99 dbm as usual and didn't notice any changes in battery life so YMMV.
btw~some people get stuck on the htc screen after flashing new radio, you can fix it by wiping cache and dalvik than flashing a kernel.
On the kernel, I just started using it as of lastnight and can say it's honestly the best kernel out right now, running scary or tiamat I would lose 1 or 2 % every 15 minutes with wifi on, with pershoot I am lucky if I lose 1% in about an hour while surfing the web. It's one amazing kernel.
As for the radio, i recommend just doing it... Everone has different experiences. As long as you check the md5 you will have no issue. Just remember to wipe everything. Also, with pershoot. Just do it its one nice kernel once everything is setup properly

no need to wipe everything with radio...
You might even have to format your sd card to fat32. Which will wipe your sd card. So back it up to your pc!
I was scared at bricking my phone at first as well, but if you get the md5sums and they match, you're ready to go.
Its as easy as placing the zip on your sd, booting to bootloader and letting it do its thing.
Simple.

If your going to flash a new Radio. Just follow the instruction in the OP of this THREAD . Also the OP has the new Radios. Just make sure you read and follow the instructons.
Personally I didn't notice any difference with the 1.08 radio. But you probably should update just to have the new new Like Thronnos said, CHECK THE MD5 SUM FIRST. As long as you do that and ensure that you didn't get a corrupted file you should be fine.
As far as kernels I'm still on the stock CM7 kernel. Works great for me with max set to 1.5ghz. People do say good things about Sparky's kernels but I couldn't ever bring myself to try one. Something about a dev who misspells Dalvik...
^ Shift Faced
I was able to flash the radio succesfully, thanks everyone. Just gotta decide now on the kernel... I had the infamous HTC screen freeze, but after wiping dalvik and cache, it booted up fine. Phew

What does wiping cache do to my system? Does it clear phone records or sms history? (Sorry for my good spelling, but I'm still new to the whole dev/phone hacking thing.)
And how do I check md5sum?

Upgrade from ACSRom 1.0 to CM9

He folks, hadn't updated my phone in a really long time (close to a year). I just updated to CWM 5.0.2.7 in preparation for upgrading to CM9 beta. I'm just wondering if I need to update my modem, kernel, or anything else beforehand.
Thanks for any info.

Well he should at least be on a GB modem lol.
I wanna mention one thing before you flash though. CM9 is a MTD ROM.
To learn about MTD, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1387334
Having knowledge about this will probably prevent a lot of problems.
So basically, I can just run the CM9 beta.zip? I've got a current backup.
From what I can understand, running that .zip will switch my filesystem over to MTD, which is incompatible with a lot of other ROMs. I'm cool with that, I'll probably be sticking with either CM9 or CM7 anyway. But what happens if my install goes wrong?
In regards to modems, are there requirements for compatibility? I believe I'm on EC05, currently. If I do need to upgrade, what should I upgrade to, and is there a good guide for that?
If something goes wrong just re-download and re-flash the zip or odin with the pit file and repartition checked and try again. There's no modem requirement but I'm really liking FB15.

Well fortunately, a lot of roms are MTD-based now.
For a modem, there is no requirement. Modem will NEVER affect the system, just your network speeds and signal strength. It's recommended to update to the EL30 modem though.
Make sure you have a gapps.zip btw if you want gmail, the play store (android market), and all those goodies.
If you are still confused, watch these tutorials (thank qbking77)

Thanks guys, this has been very informative.
One last question regarding the modem: I'm on EC05 currently with a custom ROM. Can I run a .zip to upgrade only my modem from EC05 to EL30? I've read through some threads, but they seem to be outdated. I don't have a PC, so Odin is not an option.

I did the odin thing and now my stock rom can't use wifi. When I enable it it says an app is trying to get certain permissions and wifi immediately gets disabled. It tells me to reboot the phone and I do so and same problem occurs. I did come to find that when on cm10 the internet does work but the play store and pandora only work on wifi. I get connection errors on 3g with those two apps.

Oh you mean for the stock rom? I don't want to use the stock ROM if I can get the play store and Pandora working on cm10. The stock ROM is saying its a security issue and not just an error with the WiFi so I don't think that would help. The problem started after I installed the modem in Odin.
For both I also recommend checking out that ROM it seems like what you want in a ROM customization, AOSP, and the stabability of CM. Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2312063 if not check the original android development section it is filled with great AOSP roms similar to CM or better.

There is many cases that aosp roms/kernals have slow data speeds. The epic 4g touch was one. All aosp or touchwiz roms with non stock kernal had poor data speeds. This phone may be different. Im running tw rom with kt kernal and data speeds are the same. The prl/profile thing is huge not being able to update it in aosp can cause problems.
