So I just took the plunge and got off stock sense and moved to CM7. Couldn't be happier. I've heard to run pershoot's kernel as an upgrade, but to do that, you need radio 1.008 or whatever it is. I'm on 1.07.blah.blah
I've never flashed a radio before. I'm a little nervous. I guess firstly...I'd like to know if there are any advantages in both flashing a new kernel (pershoots) and/or a new radio? Can someone explain both...or if I really even need to upgrade my kernel from CM7's stock kernel?
I havn't had an radio issues yet...and I'm assuming a new radio would yield better signal strength, etc...but again, never done it. Any advantages to flashing pershoots? Thanks in advance
The radio may or may not give you better reception, few people got it, I upgrade and was still rocking my -99 dbm as usual and didn't notice any changes in battery life so YMMV.
btw~some people get stuck on the htc screen after flashing new radio, you can fix it by wiping cache and dalvik than flashing a kernel.
On the kernel, I just started using it as of lastnight and can say it's honestly the best kernel out right now, running scary or tiamat I would lose 1 or 2 % every 15 minutes with wifi on, with pershoot I am lucky if I lose 1% in about an hour while surfing the web. It's one amazing kernel.
As for the radio, i recommend just doing it... Everone has different experiences. As long as you check the md5 you will have no issue. Just remember to wipe everything. Also, with pershoot. Just do it its one nice kernel once everything is setup properly

no need to wipe everything with radio...
You might even have to format your sd card to fat32. Which will wipe your sd card. So back it up to your pc!
I was scared at bricking my phone at first as well, but if you get the md5sums and they match, you're ready to go.
Its as easy as placing the zip on your sd, booting to bootloader and letting it do its thing.
Simple.
If you want help, just pm me and ill give you my gmail adress so I can help you step by step.

If your going to flash a new Radio. Just follow the instruction in the OP of this THREAD . Also the OP has the new Radios. Just make sure you read and follow the instructons.
Personally I didn't notice any difference with the 1.08 radio. But you probably should update just to have the new new Like Thronnos said, CHECK THE MD5 SUM FIRST. As long as you do that and ensure that you didn't get a corrupted file you should be fine.
As far as kernels I'm still on the stock CM7 kernel. Works great for me with max set to 1.5ghz. People do say good things about Sparky's kernels but I couldn't ever bring myself to try one. Something about a dev who misspells Dalvik...

I was able to flash the radio succesfully, thanks everyone. Just gotta decide now on the kernel... I had the infamous HTC screen freeze, but after wiping dalvik and cache, it booted up fine. Phew

I am running pershoot but if I had to say, go with either pershoot or scary.
What does wiping cache do to my system? Does it clear phone records or sms history? (Sorry for my good spelling, but I'm still new to the whole dev/phone hacking thing.)
And how do I check md5sum?

This is no longer the latest Eris Radio, but I cannot change the title of this thread. So.
toastcfh's old thread with Radios was great, but its original post had been missing the latest "leakv3" / OTA Radio, which is the most efficient, least buggy, and most receptive radio out there. It's 100% stable and useable. Here is a link to a flashable zip that Hero users were linking to (which I have since re-uploaded, about a month ago.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN, be advised that some (such as jcase and marisa, very smart people) are of the school of thought which says DO NOT flash a radio if you don't need to:
Marisa said:
Since there are plenty of new rooters coming up and I know many will need to hear it, so I'm going to repeat this advice:
Everyone flashing this, I implore you to be EXTREMELY careful about flashing radios. Flashing radios can brick your phone very easily. Make sure that you're checking the MD5 hash after you put it on the SD card, it is critical that you check it on the SDcard! If the hashes do not match (even if there is only a single small difference) DO NOT FLASH THAT RADIO IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE.
Flashing radios is dangerous and unless you're having problems with your current radio you should NOT change it. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

This is excellent advice, and very sound as, YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE! I, as anyone else here, am not responsible for what you do with your phone. Be careful. I can only show you exactly what I did, and have done to many Eris's, with 100% success. Onward we go.
Radio for HTC Droid Eris OTA version (2.42.01.04.27):
Here is the flashable .zip file for 2.42.01.04.27
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728529
Note: Always check the md5 hash before flashing something as important as a Radio (check the md5 AFTER you put it on your SD card - to make sure it's ok AFTER transferring to your SD card!). Things like this can happen:

If you download with Google Chrome, go to something else. Chrome randomly corrupts downloads (yes, Google knows about it)
AFTER YOU PUT IT ON YOUR SD CARD, make sure you check it using this command in adb: (you may need to unmount your sd card first if it won't work)
Code:
adb shell md5sum /sdcard/2.42.01.04.27.zip
and make sure it matches the MD5 listed above! If it doesn't, DO NOT FLASH THIS!
*thanks to firestrife23 for that
Flash from Recovery.
Anyone saying 2.41.xxx is better probably had an odd experience that made them feel that way. They can use whatever they want. But the this is the latest and greatest radio, useable with ANY ROM.
I personally recommend upgrading/shifting to this radio for anyone, especially those on 2.40.xxx. This one will do you better for battery life, reception, and transfer speed.
Godspeed.
The upload is an img. Do you have a zip available?
Here is the same radio, but flashable zip that pkopalek uploaded two weeks ago. Just flashed it and am waiting for the phone to reboot. I've been only getting 1 bar on my current radio at my house so i hope this helps. Will post back
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6469408&postcount=113
EDIT: Still getting the same amount of bars as before the flash. Will keep testing tho to see how it holds up. Thanks. I did see the 3G symbol turn to a "1X" for like 5 seconds and then i had 4 bars. But then it went back to 3G and had 1 bar again
If you have no issues, don't bother flashing a radio. Sure if your signal is crud. go ahead but if you getting good signal and no issues, stay put.
I don't know a lot about the "radio" in phones. Is that the same as the baseband version? You said the Eris OTA radio is 2.42.00.04.12, where my baseband version is 2.40.00.01.22. (Framework's Evil Eris v2.0.1)
EDIT:

jcase posted at the same time I did, lol.
Guess I don't need to upgrade then, my signal ROCKS at the moment. I was amazed at the difference in performance and signal from v1.5 to 2.1 root ROMs.
I have had this radio for a couple of weeks or more. is this OTA radio better then the leak?
well I assuming its from the leak.
Can you go back once you upgraded?

Yes, you just have to flash an older radio zip from recovery.
Well I think I'm going back to what I had. This version of the radio has a lot more battery drain.
Does anyone think if I download a herocdma radio on my rom that is based off a hero cdma would I get better results?
FWIW...I've tried all of the radio versions out there on my Eris, and honestly I can't tell one squat of difference between them. I'm sure there are minor reception and/or battery drain differences, but IMHO they are minor at best.
Having the latest version does make me feel uber-geeky though.
since I didn't really test battery before with 2.40 before switching to 2.42, I went back to 2.40 thinking maybe others were right in battery life, but man 2.40 drains my battery. Will have to reflash back to 2.42

Same results for me. My battery is lasting noticeably longer through work. Normally, at this point in my night, my battery is down into the 60's. Tonight, it is at 77%. With the same (perhaps more) usage. This 2.42 radio is the bee's knees.
None of the links seem to be working for me. How the hell do you flash Radio.IMG?
Edit: Got it now that he updated Thanks pkopalek
2.41 radio = 1539 Down - 780 up / 2 bars in the house / Signal Strength -87db
2.42 radio = 2436 Down - 813 up / 2 bars in the house / Signal Strength -83db
Worked for me, Thanks again.

This is my first post on this forum just want to say all of you guys are great. I have a verizon fascinate, i rooted, installed the DJ05 radio (modem), installed stockDJ05 rom, and 1212 test kernel. Then i installed the Blackhole 2.3 rom from sonofskywalker..All done successfully! BUT heres my question, I heard its good to wipe data and cache between flashing roms, and i dont know if this is going to affect the DJ05 "Radio"(modem). Is it safe to wipe data and cache through CLOCKWORK?

Data and cache refer to user generated data not ROM/Kernel/Radio data. The modem you installed will not be wiped in the Clockwork wipe data and cache process.
Thank you! I was also wondering, since i installed the blackhole2.3(dj05)ROM, does that mean i dont even need the stock(dj05)ROM??
Just not sure and would like to know.

This is like comparing a Jona Gold apple to a Golden Delicious apple. They are both apples and you either eat one or the other. Well normally anyway. The stock ROM is just the leaked factory DJ05 ROM. The blackhole 2.3 DJ05 is the result of someone, with greater skills then I possess, taking that stock ROM and modifying it to their (and maybe your) liking. They are both ROM's.
thanks once again!
I'm going to give this a shot this weekend. Probably a stupid question but better to ask than not - I need to flash the DJ05 modem before I can flash any ROM (stock, BH, SC, etc.), correct? So it would be -
1. Modem
2. Choice of ROM
3. Choice of kernel
Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is what you would want to do.
On the Motorola Droid when you switched ROMs it was just fine to format everything listed in ClockworkMod Recovery. Is this the case for the Samsung Fascinate or is there extraneous data left over even after formatting all through ClockworkMod?
If you format everything listed in CWM, there shouldn't be anything lingering on the phone. You don't actually have to format data or cache when flashing if you don't want to. I never format data unless I start having issues that I can't fix any other way.

This is correct.
But, do not fret too much. It's like chicken and egg. I guess I flashed ROM first and then modem, and I am still fine. You do not have absolutely virgin phone with empty memory anyway. So, whatever you do, something will be first and another thing second, because of sequential nature of the flashing process. It is fine to have this discrepancy while you flash.
Just make sure that when you going to ACTUALLY USE the phone everything is in sync.
Rooted my wife's continuum. No problem. Go to install new ROM, major issues. Every one I try causes errors when I try to activate wireless to re-install her apps. Usually locks the system and forces a battery pull. Tried EC-07 clean, the Nuckin ROM, stock again, no luck. Any ideas?
I am fairly knowledgeable with electronics. I have rooted my Incredible, my Samsung Galaxy Tab and jailbroke an iPhone 3gs. Why is this Continuum so different?
What radio do you have?
And what kernel?
You can check it in settings
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Baseband is the radio?
Baseband is s:i400.0.6v.ec06
Firmware is 2.2.2
Build is EC07
I'm guessing the radio and build should be the same, correct? If I have a EC07 build then I need the EC07 radio.
Normally, yes. But in our case, you have the correct radio annd kernel? Assuming that you wiped and reset, my dirst guess would be a bad flash. If you made a nandroid, i would revert and try avain eith freah downloads of the files (to be sure).

The deodexed rom that ciscogee posted is the one im on. Its debloated as well. But the clean you have is good. I havent tried them, but nukin and joshkoss's roms are said to be pretty good as well. When i said bad flash, i wasnt insinuating that the rom was bad, but that something got screwed up in the flash process.
That being said, nuckins is the most bare bones of the lot, if that is what you think will work for her.

re-doing CWM. Does it always take a long time to format the SD card when you wipe data? Doing wipe data/factory reset.. Was going to wipe Dalvik after then do a fresh install of the ROM. Thinking either Nuckin or the deodexed one.
Is anyone in the IRC channel #samsung-continuum or is there a developers one?
What version of cwm? 3 Isn't stable for us. 2.5 is

Still having some issues. Now I keep getting a no memory message when I try to install apps. Can't get ROM manager on or Astro or anything else. Any tips? Thinking the full memory might be part of my problem.
And why does the phone lock up when trying to connect to my home network? It locks up and resets. All the contacts disappear and it completely resets.
So I offered to help a co worker out since she is completely unfamilar with rooting or flashing. I'm more familiar with Moto and Samsung, never had an HTC so not sure how different it is but basically her Evo 4g has been acting very buggy. I think she is on Synergy RLS 1 and I want to put a more up to date, stable rom just not entirely sure how to go about it. This is the phone's info.
Model number PC36100
Android version 2.3.3
HTC Sense version 2.1
Software Number 2.76.651.4
PRI Version 1.52_003
PRL 03026 Kernel version 2.6.35.10-dodge kernel_v1.6-g5512dll-dirtydodge #6
Baseband 1.07.00.1129
Build number Synergy RLS 1

Sent from my XT875 using Tapatalk
The first thing I would suggest if she likes her synergy would be to reboot into recovery via holding down power button and selecting recovery, once in recover use volume rocker to navigate to wipe menu and select it with power button. Once in wipe menu navigate to cache and select it with power button to wipe and do the same for dalvik cache also. The navigate back to the reboot option. That should take care of her issues if its something that hasn't been done previously.
But if she's set on trying a new rom,
First thing is to find which ever rom you will be using and download that. Next hold the power button for power options and select recovery. When in recovery look for backup/restore. You need to do a current backup in case anything goes wrong when flashing a new rom. So after you have your backup your current nandroid, you navigate back to the wipe menu and wipe everything except SD card. Then navigate to flash menu and flash rom then navigate reboot device. That's the basics any way

Is it just me, or do these software versions look way wrong and/or old? So old, that I don't even remember them, and I've had my Evo since launch day. I'm hoping someone else will jump in to confirm or deny that the versions I'm seeing look way off.
Like the kernel, I've never even heard of that kernel. Where did she get it? Dirtydodge? Never seen that on xda. On synergy, I would recommend flashing the freedom or chop suey kernel (thru recovery, just whip cache and dalvik cache first). Or reflash synergy rls1 over itself wiping only cache and dalvik cache to restore the kernel that came with synergy rom initially.
PRL 03026? Never heard of it. Current sprint PRL for most is 60683. She should flash a stock sprint/HTC sense 1.0 ROM (I would suggest tommytomatoe Classic or brad560s stock ROM, both found in the Evo development forum) so that she can go to settings>update profile and PRL.
11.29 radio/baseband is froyo-era radio (Android 2.2), and also should be updated. Radio can be flashed thru hboot or recovery. Check thread by Calkulin for radios in the development forum. Flashing radios is touchy (you probably already know this), they appear to flash twice, but DO NOT PULL battery mid flash, just let it do its thing.
Her poor Evo needs so much maintenance I'm surprised it's functioning at all.
I would:
1. Reflash synergy over itself to get stablish again.
2. Update radio to 2.15.08.08 or 2.15.04.08
3. Select more current ROM to update to (there are many in dev section with dates attached)
4. Flash ROM
5. Go to settings and update Profile and PRL
6. Everything should be pretty up to date at this point.
7. Browse through dev forum to select ROM to settle on for daily driver (whether she wants to keep HTC/Sense or AOSP....All ICS roms for Evo are currently probably a bit too buggy for her [not for me, but to each their own]).
Newest Android version for HTC/sense ROM is 2.3.5. You'll want to probably be on 2.3.5, or at least 2.3.4. 2.3.5 fixed some issue with voice dialing while traveling over 35mph, or something like that...something I don't use.
Good luck. ......poor neglected Evo

Ok. MIUI is an alteration of AOSP. So, an AOSP compatible kernel is what you would want. However, LanternsLight puts out good MIUI ROMs. Unless its a known issue, I doubt its the ROM. Did you format your system partition before flashing?
Edit: Just spent a few minutes reading through the thread. No one else has reported this as far as I can tell. If you didn't format /system before you flashed, reflash using the instructions in the OP of the thread in the dev section. If you did, wipe cache and dalvik cache and reflash. If neither of those works, try TDJ's AOSP kernel, but there is nothing wrong with the Tiamat kernel, so I doubt that's it.
OK update i dont have any idea why this isnt working but i cleared the sd card, ran the rom install again followed the directions completely and my hotspot and wifi will bootloop my phone im at a loss of swear words already. should i take a hammer to it or not
Did you try a fresh download?
yes as stated i completely cleaned the sd card and redownloaded multiple roms and none will allow me to use wifi or hotspot the hotspot will error and the wifi will bootloop every single time
What Roms did you try?
what you can find in the recent rom section i tried i think it has to do with the phone or something im lost im frustrated im gonna flip out and smash this phone soon
Well, if you'be tried multiple ROMs with different kernels and did FULL wipes between them all, its probably hardware. I can't think of anything else it would be.
well all i did was change sd cards and thats it no more wifi and hotspot.....should i partition the sdcard i do remember seeing that in recovery does that affect the wifi n hotspot? if so what should it be partitioned at
Eeerm, partitioning the sd card is for moving apps over to external storage the pre-froyo way. It has nothing to do with hotspot functions. So your hotspot worked before, but crapped out when you changed as cards? That's really weird...
Does anyone else have any insight into this, because I'm at a loss?
Anyone out there?????? ANYONE
Try flashing the stock 2.2.1 or 2.3.4 rooted. Try if that works. If not, I too am at a loss. Maybe Jack_R1 is around lol

have you tried flashing the froyo pd15img to unroot and see if the problem persists? if not then i would do so and then report back... if the problem is still there then it seems to be a hw problem... if it is gone then it will be easy to reroot and be back in the game! just a little fyi though, if you want help then next time i would recommend providing us all the information! bootloader version, root method, rom, kernel, etc, etc, etc... you will more than likely get a more informed response and it shows that you actually put forth a bit of effort in helping us help you, rather than being the guy in my signature video! and as for your comment of this is the last day you are going to try to fix the phone, well it is your money that was spent on it, so by all means nuke the damn thing! but dont get angry cause we cant fix your device, we did nothing to it or you... take it to the store and let them mess with it or pay the deductible and get a new one... good luck on any note!
