Just wondering if anyone uses the Nexus media importer app? Apparently its the only way to expand storage via USB otg without root? My laptop recently died and all the other computers in my household are all macs -__- and I wouldn't even try rooting my n7 on a Mac lol. So until I get around to rooting it just wanted someone's opinion on the app and if its worth it

I haven't used it, but from what I've heard it's like StickMount, but doesn't have an actual file explorer like StickMount, so it's a pain to use.

I haven't used the Nexus Media Importer app, but I have a Mac and I rooted my N7 through Boot camp with Windows 7. You may or may not have a copy of Windows laying around, but everything worked fine for me. Sorry that I don't have any experience with the Nexus Media Importer app.

Well I gave the app a minor test run and it works pretty well! Now I need to order a bigger flash drive, and test some of the file formats to see what is compatible

That's great! I'm glad you were able to find a solution.

The app works great for me. The developer is actually a poster here, he has a thread over in the themes and apps section. He responds really great to people posting with questions or problems.
Definitely worth the $1.99. I've had no problem streaming movies, pictures, and PDF docs.

I've never owned an Android device before so forgive me if this is a stupid question. I'm buying a Nexus 7 and am wondering if ScummVM works well on the Nexus 7?
And also Adventure Game Studio, there's an android port, but I'm not sure if it will work on the Nexus 7.
I can't post the link to the Android build as I'm a new user, can google "AGS engine Android port"
Thanks guys
Doesn't seem to work on mine at the moment.

Scummvm runs great. At least with lucasarts games. The mouse tracking is odd at first but you can actually change it to a click-point interface in the midi options

edit: got it working. Scummvm works great on Nexus7!
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but for me ScummVM just opens and gives me a black screen. Tried putting compatible ROMs where I think they should be but no luck. I'm rooted using the Wugfresh toolkit but other than that I've done nothing to the stock ROM. Any suggestions?

Just tried deleting the app cache for ScummVM. Seemed to do the trick. Launches fine now and tested with Beneath a Steel Sky.

ur views will be valuable for me...
Yes.
Pros: cheap, fast, direct updates, large dev community, awesome roms...ect
Cons: front camera, many screen lift reports
I just bought this today. I have a HP at home, this thing rocks. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it. I have two weeks, originally I was 95% sure I was going to return...now, I'm want to keep it.

It's definitely the best thing going for the money you pay. Smoother than an ipad too!
It is the best tablet you can buy. You probably read about screen lift issue, well dont bother about this, every tablet has issue when it release first. and Anyway, it is fixed by now All new built device has this issue fixed (this apply to some C8O and C9O Model Number and up )

Plays 99.9% of games super smooth:good:. N.O.V.A. 3 is the only game that lags on the nexus 7, but that's Gameloft's fault.

Not natively, but there are several free media player apps that do. One of these is MX Player.

What dpi are you using? Anything other than 160 is causing problems

Google might allow you access to the books, but Movies are always blocked on a rooted device.
Personally, if you are trying to have the "best" Google Play experience/compatibility, I don't see the draw to unlocking/rooting the device. When I had my BN Nook Color, it made since as I'd wanted access to an Android OS newer than Froyo.
However, is the Nexus 7 languishing on an older version of Android OS? Nope, it's actually cutting edge. Other than benchmarking, I don't even see the need to overclock this puppy. It's gaming experience is top notch!
I'd always lamented that Hulu+ also wasn't available on a rooted device. So there's what you need to balance. Are the benefits for "root" enough to encourage you to do it?
If the answer's "yes", then by all means root the device, just be aware that some applications are designed to not perform correctly on a "rooted" device, possibly to answer DRM issues to that product vendor.

Huh? I play Google movies AND Hulu+ on my rooted Nexus 7 all the time...
Root is required for me as I need to do full backups and you really can't do that without root.
If you start messing with the dpi If free device your going to have problems, not because of root, but because the apps don't match the settings...

My rooted Nexus 7, Galaxy S III, and MyTouch 4G Slide say otherwise. I was able to watch some movies from the play store on all three of them.

Is there anyway to make the Nexus 7 work like a monitor on my win7 64bit computer? I have searched the Web for this for quite a time but haven't seen anything yet. I would like to use it as a kind of "media controller" so I can have Spotify (desktop version) or winamp there to change music while playing games at the computer.
The reason why I want it with the computer and not as a separate device connected to my speakers is I want sound from my computer as well.
I hope you understand what I mean//Alvin
There are plenty remotes for that in play store.... i have one for vlc and one for spotify on my tab but its sent for repairs and i dont remember the names of them
Well that would work too. Do anyone have any favourites? The problem with Spotify is that I don't have premium so I can't use the official "stuff"
My best tip is to try a few either til you find one that fits you or you get tip..... search and look at the pics in play store.... read the reviews..

Air display is an app that you can use to extend your desktop onto your tablet, as if you had two monitors, works good for me.

Can you use the touch in any of these?
Splashtop Remote or Unified Remote should work.

yes Splashtop HD(displays pc screen on tab),unified remote(just to control mouse, keyboard, apps) are best one.
Also you can use teamviewer, gpp remote.
Testing iDisplay, if that doesn't do it for me I will test the rest of your advices.
Sorry if my English is messed up. Not native language.

iDisplay works well for me atleast. Really laggy though, But that's something to expect?
Try PocketCloud. I use it for server admin quite a lot.

Is there anyway way at all to mirror out to a tv? I want to see what's on my nexus on my TV. I have been reading for almost 3 hours doesn't look like you can. Please help. I know Samsung cords dont work because n7 doesn't support mhl at all, miracast probably won't happen to us at least any time soon, nexus q will only stream your videos and not mirror whats on ur screen, and there's some thing pi rasp idk exactly what's its called. Is there anything that works? Sorry there's probably a thread about this I scrolled down for 10 mins and didn't find one. I will update my first post with any findings to help anyone easier.
Thanks everyone!

There is if you have an AppleTV, it's called AppleTV Air Play Media Player by Zappotv and it's in the Google Play Store. It's pretty cool it uses Apple's Air Play protocol to send your Nexus screen's picture or video to your big screen TV.
