[Q] question about new custom roms

hi, i want some help with it!
actually i have cyanogenmod gingerbread 2.3.7 with kernel 2.6.29 , by mur4ik
but now i have heard that he is not making or working on it anymore and there are another guys making new things with 2.3.7 for example the swiftdroid second life, or the custom rom made by pete and his friend.
i wanted to know if these ones are better versions than the one i have, or if they are behind it, and if those two are newer and better versions, wich one would you recommend for lg gt 540?,
and another thing, they talk a lot about kernels, really the mur4ik rom i installed was like a package so i really didn't even care about it
but now that are talking about it and wanted to know what is it , and why is better one or another
i heard some of the guys want to puto a .31 kernel instead a .29 and things like that, and well, i really don't know it so well
help with that please, thanks!
Well for kernels look it up on Google a bit too long to explain it here.
For l android 2.1 the best kernel to be used is .29 kernel for 2.2 it would be the .32 kernel and for 2.3 and 4.0(ics) it would be the .35/.38 or 3.0 kernel
As for roms you are using swiftdroid so keep it or then next best thing would be any 2.2 rom I recommend project Utopia but if I where you I will wait for Mike's asop 2.3.7 v6 to come out
I sure am waiting for V6 mike's rom.
For the looks of it i am waiting for mike´s rom V6 it should be fast and stable, just hoping he releases it ASAP....
try Pebe 2.3.7 v5.1 rom, im using it and its quite good!
Yes, the last pcf cm7 (.32) is very good. The only thing that it ends with the battery much faster than for example in pcf aosp 2.2.2 (.32)
Froyo optimum is great too
Amazing battery life and so smooth

sorry to be so silly but,
mike = muraik?
the last one i have from him is v2.0 rc5 swiftdroid based on mur4ik
exactly which one of mike are you telling me about?
if you can post the link to the thread, that'd be nice.

DO NOT start new threads asking for "the best" nightlies. It changes all the time, and everybody will give you a completely different answer.
But since you have a defy+, the obvious is to flash a Defy+ build (gb kernel). Quarx is the only developer who owns a defy+, and his nightlies are the best. For daily use they are rock stable. No force-closes, no reboots, just perfect. Original thread: Voilà!
FuZZ__'s kangs are good too with even more features added. Check out the thread here
sorry i didn't wanted to open a new huge discusion
ok then i'll try the quartx one! and maybe later the kang!
thanks!
Don't worry. I probably overreacted!

downloading fuzz version!
afaik eppys builds are quite stable too. whats the difference between them (except the obvious kernel difference)? any feature differences, does one support hwa better than the other? i have a red lensed defy, so i can move between kernels.

How's the performance of CM9 on Defy?

Hello I have a Defy MB525 and I'd like to give it an upgrade and since there's no official Android releases above 2.2 I'm thinking about installing CM) which is 4.0 based right? I'd like to know how's the performance? does it become slower or how many bugs are? would you recommended it? thanks in advanced, it looks really good so I'd like to try it!
dear friend, trust me .you'd better use the CM9 latest by quarx's.Now we all taste the JB already
anyway the Quarx's CM series(CM7,CM9.CM10) are very perfect on Defy.
You must to try for it!:good:
for everyday rom, try cm9 by epsylon froyo kernel. I am using it and there's no issue or bug I have encountered (I use my defy as a phone).
What are the major differences between Quarx's and Epsylon ROMS? thanks you both for the info!:good:
there is no difference in both builds, afterall both are ics...
why don't you try both using multiboot and decide yourself.
I will give them a try, both releases can be found on Development section right? any link? thank you!
EDIT: Now that you mention it? how can I use multiboot? could I have stock rom and custom rom?

There is multiboot thread in development section, just go through it and you will find out how.
And yes you can have stock rom as base rom and custom rom as virtual rom as long as you have same kernel for both.( for mb525 its froyo kernel)
Btw the link for multiboot - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364659
Thanks! Do you have by any chance the links for CM9 by Quarx and Epsylon? thank you!

NOT RECOMMENDED. The performance you'd get from a ROM installed to your microSD (that's what multiboot does!) is inferior to having installed in the ROM partition of the phone.

Cm9 by epsylon - http://defy-cm.net/
And by quarx - http://quarx2k.ru/
I will skip the installation of MultiBoot for now, but I will try either Quarx's or Epsylon's ROM, thank you!!

New to the Defy - most recent stable rom

Hi,
I've picked up a motorola defy, and am wondering what is the most recent e.g ICS, rom that is stable and everything works?
So far i've rooted the phone and that's about it.
It's a 2.51 UK phone.
I'm familiar with the HTC Desire S roms, but haven't a clue when it comes to the Defy.
I've searched through the dev forum, but can't quite get an indication of what's what.
Sorry for the noob question.
Thanks for any replies.
Did you maybe already found out if it has green (SOC) lens or red (bayer) lens camera module? SOC only works on Froyo kernels, while bayer works on both Froyo and Gingerbread kernels. (Which is not of great importance, cause almost all ROM's are available for both kernels)
Anyways... What do you like? Here are some of my recommendations...
For MIUI v2 - Pikachu MIUI (WIUI comes 2nd, as Pikachu had fewer bugs for me and was overall snappier)
For MIUI v4 - WIUI v4
For CM7(.2) - maniac103's builds or FuZZ's KANG's - almost the same, but details do make them different
For CM9 - Epsylon3 made the latest CM9 builds with the final fixes and touches
For AOKP ICS - There's a Milestone 6 coming up soon, built by Kayant (he's building from source, port's can't compare with that)
For JellyBean - I must say I would recommend ParanoidAndroid, which is based on CMX, but somehow manages to be snappier and much better at RAM management. AOKP JP alpha is snappy, too, when compared to CMX. Although the CMX I'm talking about is the one build by Quarx, but people do say tha Epsylon's builts are better performance-wise.
Thanks.
From the looks of my lens it's bayer.
Are any of those roms a default/minimal ice cream sandwich? That's all i'm after really, as I guess jelly bean will have loads of stuff not working correctly yet.
Actually CM10 is working as good as CM9, maybe better. But I must say, I switched to CM10 since the 2nd nightly, and never went back to CM9, so maybe there was an improvement since that in CM9 nightlys...
But you should try them all and choose which you like

When you say minimal, I'm assuming you mean feature-wise, not GUI-wise, so I guess the best choice for you would be to wait up for AOSP Jelly Bean which Kayant is trying to build from source here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824551
If you don't want Jelly Bean, but ICS, then I think this is the way to go - CM9 Moto Ice Gun - http://www.custom-android.de/portfolio/cm9-motoicegun-edition/ (you can find it in the defy development forum, too). Most of the guys who tested it claim that it's the fastest ICS ROM for the Defy.

i still think , that CM9 is the most stable rom for defy
CM9 is fatser then GB , ICS if definitely better then GB in all terms
so a recent stable rom - CM9 .
but in near future , if TI releases proper SGX drivers for our devices .. then , m sure CM10 will be the most stable rom for defy .
IMHO I would choose CM10
What Kayant is doing isn't pure AOSP. It has some fixes!
I was talking with Quarx recently and he said that CM10 is very similar to pure AOSP..so trust me...go CM10

I've given AOKP ICS milestone 5 a go.
Seems to be lacking polish compared to the HTC ICS roms with sense 3.6 - I guess that's something i'm going to have to get used to. I don't like his boot screen either.
When I say minimal i mean without a bunch of pre-installed stuff like games, twitter etc..
Boot screen can be changed for one you like

All ROMs are minimal then!
They come only with essential apps preinstalled (DSP manager, HWA Settings and FM Radio) + default ROM ones (phone..camera...you know)

I can't have working tether since CM9 from Quarx or E....
I don't know whether I'm using BL6 kernel (2.3.6) on Defy which cause this problem.
Also, since CM9, I can't play myTV (apps from TVB) live broadcast.
Anyone can help to try it on your CM9/10? Here is the apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quickplay.tvbmytv
Quarx,no doubt, he develops this. Anyways, if it includes some apps you don't want or some to add simply do this with an archiver manager on computer...
Hi all!
What stable ROM do you guys recommend for Defy green lens? I recently installed the most stable CM7 and I like but there are some thing I don't quite like, like the incompatibility with Titanium backup, the vibration issue for notifications, and the battery life didn't improve significantly. So, I am looking for the one but without having to flash 7-8 roms, that where you guys coming in, which rom out there is the best and stable for defy green lens?
And if you could include a download link would be great, because I encountered so many sites with links and versions and rom and kernels, and this and that, that is confusing for a newbie like me.
Thank you!

You could try with cm11, goes very well, but has some bugs with bluetooth, calls and other stuff, you could try the 20-01-14 build, or you can try the latest build of cm10.2 by quarx

Thank you for your answer. I will try that. I have another issue though last night I charged my phone, today it was at 98% well I went online to check my email and the battery went from 98% to 5% like in 7 minutes, and the main reason I flashing my phone was because battery life, I guess the joke was on me! :crying:

Both, lol, my battery is 2+ years old and I should try CM10.
From all the CM10 and 11 what version is the most stable? If I flash it could I go back to stock eventually? (keep in mind that I have a Defy green lens) because if these custom roms don't work quite as smooth I think I'm going to ended up flashing the stock rom.
Diego, Thanx for all the help!

How about battery performance in the Xperia ROM?

Xperia D possible that is fast and smooth but I doubt whether stable because it has a lot of extras and goodies.
If you want a stable rom to select the latest Quarx 09.04
where can I get the latest Quarx 09.04? Is it CM?

File: http://quarx2k.ru/cm10-2ndboot-nightly-defy(+)/CM10-20130409-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip
I'm sorry, the latest version is from yesterday.
Thanks. I tried the CM9 ROM, but it was not as fast as the CM7,2, maybe because ICS/JB requires more CPU power than GB? Also battery performance is bad.
I am looking for something stable/fast/good battery performance. what do you recommend?
Hady
Forget ICS or JB based roms—there are no stable ones for Defy, or with good battery life. I've tried all of them, and I always run into problems. Your best bet is to stick to CM 7.2 stable or nightly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458729
Thanks Glaux. I am currently using CM 7.2 nightly latest, and also tried the latest stable one, but seems that my deep sleep percentage is very small in CPU spy.... how can I make it go in deep sleep? how can I know what is stopping it?
Hady
I'm running the newest Quarx CM10 rom.
Very stable for me.
I've made some minor modifications with Titanium Backup, removing all the apps that i dont need.
thank u for ur reply..can u send the link of Quarx CM10 rom and what r all the minor changes you did.
In my experience, wajkiUi and MS2Ginger are two most stable roms. Both of them are GB and supports 720p video recording with no bugs. I personally prefer wajkiui and trust me i have tried most of available roms on xda for defy.
