Hi everyone
I think we need an android q&a forum to keep this dev forum clean of spam and repetitive questions that are filling this place.
Does any body have an opinion on this?

I believe it does not help too much since too many people can't seem to read/search the forums anyway. And they will keep on asking the same questions anyway, regardless where they are posed. I believe the non-developers should answer the simple questions so the devs can concentrate on their work.
I agree but if a new dev came along and saw the state of this forum i think they would be a put off joining in.
This is why the devs use skype and irc because this place is a mess

if you're talking about a real forum, with different web address, it's a lot of work.
or maybe you are talking about creating a FAQ page:
if you create it here on the forum, only you will be able to edit it.
but instead, maybe you could create a WIKI page on the photon webpage, and refers to it everytime a n00b ask a question ?
http://code.google.com/p/photon-android/w/list
i don't know if you have rights to create wiki page, if you don't, ask me or codiak/tzacapaca/schlund via pm

Thanks for your input, I think a faq thread probably the best way to go, I'll put something together and post it tonight.
I think we need a personal moderator to keep threads clear of spamming.....
+1 for Q&A section,i would like to see this forum the same as HD2 one, with different sections for different OS & stuff, maybe then people won't make mess in dev section
I've sent mod a pm to request a sub-forum if he says no I will post a faq thread here, if he says yes i will post it in q&a

Hi All! I have the honor of being assigned here as one of your new Forum moderators. I am new to your forum and hope to get to know everyone here. If there are any issues that need addressing please feel free to PM me and I will do what I can to resolve the situation. And everything Weudel said in the post above..LOL.
Quick blurb, I have moderated private websites such as BonsaiGeek. I have put out several themes and ROMs for the Samsung Epic so understand the hard work devs do to put their work out for nothing but the joy of people enjoying their work.
I look forward to serving as your moderator.
Since it is only myself and _Arjen_ assigned here I am opening up this thread for discussion, greetings and concerns.
Hi Everybody!
Welcome aboard!
New Mod Here
Hello All
My name is Woodrube and I have been assigned to be your new moderator. If you have anything that you need, please feel free to reach out to me and I will do my best to help you out with any issues that you may have.
If I may suggest a few threads as refreshers:
Forum & Marketplace Rules
[GUIDE] - XDA New User Guide - Getting started on XDA
They both are a bounty of information from top to bottom.
Glad to be here and again, if you need anything please let us know.
Hi all,
I'm your other new mod and will be here to help out with Woodrube so can only echo the above. If you need anything please feel free to get in contact as we're here to help you out with your forum.
Thanks
Be kind to the new mods everyone. Remember to be respectful to each other and post questions only in Q&A not development or general.
It has been a pleasure serving as your Friendly Neighborhood Moderator.
Kenny
I want to bring your attention to some of the forum rules. They are done to improve XDA-developers.com and for you to get the best of this great community. Not following this rules you show disrespect to any other member.
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
Click to collapse
3. Post only using a clear subject and message.
You're most likely to receive a helpful answer to your question if you use a short subject title that describes your problem and a message that explains in detail what your problem is and what you've tried to solve it.
Click to collapse
5. Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter, You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time, it might take a while before you receive an answer.

General - Question & Answer section is not a place where everyone can open a new thread with the own question. It is needed to search before, read the sticky threads, read the wikis, read and read once again, and post in an existing thread, if necessary. Repetitive topics will be deleted/closed without previous notice. Topics like 'urgent help' or 'do I brick my phone?' and so will be deleted/closed. Infractions issued to reiterative members. Remember XDA-Developers.com is about development. That includes Q&A section! Thanks for your cooperation. Best regards,
what's this
is this mean that I hava to edit this before I can start a thread?
I know and thanks very much!
thank you
Ynt: Attention !!! Please read before start a new thread

Hello, I have been assigned as a moderator to the HTC Wildfire.
Please dont hesitate to contact me if you have any issues regarding your stay here in the Wildfire section.
Enjoy
Welcome
Luckily we're more of a quiet and slow community here, except for those few that seem to just think that we're all here for them. (And the pirates)

hi and welcome. hope you have fun with us all.
ok now please dont take this personal,i am just asking a question out of confusion.... how does xda decide a moderator for a devices forum !! i thought it would make more sense if an active user from the actual wildfire threads was to be come a moderator, now i mean no disrespect but ive not seen you around here ( wildfire ) before ? im in no way saying your not active in other threads but i was under the impression that this was how xda moderators was chosen ?
kindest regards as always slymobi.
Well moderators are not device specific.
Lets say there is a pool of moderators and when the need for moderation for a specific forum arises, then one of us take it.
PS You can see the different forums I moderate in my signature

thanks for clearing, i respect all moderators willing to take on the task and time to moderate any forum. like i said, i knew you was active in other forums and totally welome you into willy wilderbeasts forum lol.
Dear moderator! since some servers (like multiuploader) are down please notify to correct all non-working links. thanks
This is not something a moderator does.
You have to contact the devs for them to renew their links.
Either post in their thread or message by pm.
Cheers

well, but almost all of them don't care about that
They don't care because they've moved on, you have to remember that this phone is very old in phone years.
Oh and hello new mod, bout time we got one.
Note to self: must bite tongue harder when dealing with dimwits or face the prospect of being moderated!!
Just wanted to pop in and say g'day, and thanks!
The forums are really helpful (as I found out while lurking) so I decided to sign up and see if I could contribute.
If I'm replying rather copiously, it's because I want to get to 10 posts so I can ask a question in the Dev area
Thanks!

You are not supposed to start a new thread in development unless you are sharing your work. If you have questions, ask in the q&a section. You can still reply to an existing thread in development.

If you wanted to contribute to the forum, you should have thought about making a new thread for this kind of stupidity. Spamming the forum does not contribute in any way.

Hello. Some people on XDA have a rod shoved up somewhere where the sun don't shine. If you have questions about any thread in the dev forum, try a search of that forum, and ask if you don't find the answer. Posting frequently is alright as long as you're contributing on some level, even for the sake of discussion about a relevant topic in that specific thread. Spam is usually a bad idea
Have fun and welcome to xda!
welcome to the party! please do not create a new thread in the dev section if you're not a dev. and your questions can be asked in the Q&A section. before you ask, make sure you use the search tool thoroughly. double posting is not acceptable here, if you want to, and i highly recommend, read this article: http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=263 Have a nice time here in xda!
