I'm stuck in Recovery, because my device can't boot. I installed Chainfire (stupid me) and didn't read the description. I want to delete it, but when I'm trying to mount sdcard nothing is happening. I have Windows 7 64bit and ClockworkMod Recovey v.6.0.1.0.
Is it(sdcard mounting) possible in cwm recovery's current build? Haven't tried it myself.
Anyway, if you can't boot now and all else fails, just reinstall the JB stock image. Use a tool like the one in dev section(sticky).
Tapatalked from my N7
Sure, but I would like to save my data and apps cache files. That's the problem.
I already deleted the chainfire3d apk in data/data and data/app through adb. Still it's not turning on.
Mounting SDcard is not possible when I tried it on both version CWM 6 and 5

Samething happen to me, fortunately for me I was able to bring mine back to Walmart for a new one. Next time use TWRP recovery, it allows mounting of SD cards.

al you need to do is reflash your rom to boot up. you wont lose any data.
So I installed TWRP, but still when I'm mounting USB storage nothing is happening on PC, but I can click "unmount" on Nexus.
@UP: Reflash to boot up? What do you mean? Flash it just again?

flash whatever rom that you were using when this happened. itll overwrite the chainfire mod, and you wont lose any data.
But I can't mount USB Storage to copy that rom, the log in TWRP says:
E:Unable to locate volume information.
E:Unable to open ums lunfile '/sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file':
E:Unable to locate volume information.

i stupidly changed from CWM recovery to TWRP and forgot to make a backup.
I went to install the Revolt rom so copied it to the memory and it installs fine but when i go to reboot it just sits on the "Google" boot screen with the unlocked padlock at the bottom and never gets anywhere.
Any ideas or advice on what i can do?
Does adb work?
Wipe cache?
If you would have read through the thread, you would have seen that the ROM doesn't boot past the Google logo. The ROM doesn't work.

Try configuring the drivers from here. Can you mount USB Storage? Does your computer recognize fastboot?
It picks up my other nexus that is working fine but with being stuck in a boot loop i dunno what to do. with my s3 i would have just put a new rom on the external SD
just got it into download mode :s and 2 new random devices have appeared. check the links below.
all i want to be able to do it put a new .zip on the device so i can get it going.

This happened to me 2 times yesterday. I was flashing new kernel and roms and then I keep getting the Google logo for every new rom I tried. I fixed this problem by doing these steps..
I'm using TWRP so ..
-Wipe
-Cache / Dalvik cache / factory reset / system / format data / and internal storage (Make sure u wipe internal storage and format data! This will stop the Google logo loop. NOTE: U will lost everything if you do this step)
-Then I reboot into TWRP after the wipe
-I download nexus 4 toolkit v1.3 Toolkit dl link
-mount /system/ in TWRP
-Put the below stock rooted rom into put_files_to_push_here (it's inside installed path of the nexus 4 toolkit)
-Push This stock rooted rom using #13 option in nexus 4 toolkit
-It will ask if u using a custom rom or insecure image type yes
-It will ask u where to push ur file to.. just type /system/
-wait 2-3 mins to push. If everything goes well it should say "Finished xxx secs"
-Install the Stock rooted rom using TWRP
-reboot

I think I was wrong. You can't push/flash a ROM through fastboot. Are you absolutely sure that you can't mount your SD card to your PC in TWRP recovery? I can't mount my SD using CWM but I can using TWRP.

Do u have adb driver installed on ur pc? If you do, it should show ur device near top left of toolkit. It should say " ADB mode List of devices attached" If you can see ur device with the serial number then everything should work fine.
You can install the driver using toolkit.. it's the #1 option
When pushing the file, u should be in TWRP (where u see install.. wipe etc..) and mount /system/ should have an X on it.

Hello all, Im caught in a pickle.
I decided to test out a new ROM and wandered off to the "mounts and storage" option while in ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.2.3. I've regrettably went ahead and performed the format /sdcard /system /data /cache /sdcard option and now i am unable to instal a custom ROM ... for my computer doesnt recognize the device. elp would be greatly appreciated!
Hope i have provided enough information. Any h

So I've recently run into a similar problem, except I had this problem BEFORE, then performed the format /sdcard /system /data /cache /sdcard option in cwm in order to correct it, as I thought I did a bad flash. I tried flashing stock but the problem persisted. How would one use the nexus toolkit if the nexus isn't recognized properly by the computer in the first place?
does fastboot still work and get recognized with PC ?

Did you use a toolkit when you tried to flash stock before? I would suggest not relying on a toolkit and handle this manually.
If you can get into your bootloader you can flash the stock images using fastboot. Efrant has a great guide on how to do that... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34552123
Edit...There is a second option I forgot to mention.
I use TWRP and I know I can do this so you might (should?) be able to do this using CWM as well (someone who uses CWM please correct me if I'm wrong).
If you don't want to go right back to stock as I suggested above and you can boot into a custom recovery, you can push a nandroid backup if you've got one or a custom ROM .zip using adb commands from your computer. Once the nandroid or zip is copied to your phone you can install it using the custom recovery.

Do you have adb + the drivers installed? If not, do so now and then adb push the files to the phone. adb will work even if you're in recovery. Should be plenty of write ups on the forum about how to install and set up the required stuff.
is been a long time since I pushed files useing adb Im sure it will come back to me. Should I change to clockworks to avoid this in the future? Why is it not mounting

It can't be on the Nexus 4. If you don't have the files on your phone it's your only option at this point.
Edit: CWM vs TWRP wouldn't make a difference in this case.

You cant mount it as USB storage in recovery mode. I normally download the new ROM I want to flash before going into recovery so that I don't have to use adb to push it.

ok thanks I will reflash recovery or start there as long as I know it can be done thats all that matters.
OK, so here is the backround...This is my very first Android device (S4 MK2 4.3) ever. I been on the Iphone since standing in line for the original release, so I have absolutely experience with Android at all.
I got my phone and Rooted it on day one. I'm on the stock ROM. Day two I decided to so a Wifi Hotspot Mod by replacing the .odex and .jar files. On reboot, I discovered I had soft bricked my phone when it got stuck on the yellow Sprint screen. I gave my self a quick crash course, and fixed the issue by flashing stock MJA with Odin 3.7 and then OTA update to MK2, then re-rooted.
My question is to do with the Wifi hotspot mod. I have found a huge amount of information out there, but there seems to be conflicting information as to if I can actually do this with the 4.3. Could someone please confirm if there is a hotspot mod that is compatible with the MK2 4.3 and maybe guide me to some info?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Outstanding, thanks for the quick replies!
My next question is about stock recoveries. I was trying implement the Clockwork recovery mod. When I started ROM Manager, the only installation file listed was for Sprint S4 jfltespr. My confusion was with the jfltespr. I was expecting to see one for MK2 or MJA. Is the jfltespr like a catch all for any Sprint phone?
Jfltespr is the sprint gs4.

newest problem
Sorry to post another problem so soon, but I'm having problems backing up using clockworkmod 6.0.4.4
So I did the clockworkmod install through ROM Manager. When I select to Backup Current Rom it boots me into recovery mode. Once there it tries to mount the sd card. It counts down from 20 to 1 and finally times out. At the end of that I get this: Error processing rom manager script.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. The micro sd is formatted in FAT32
Any ideas?
Install goomanager.
Then use THAT to install custom recovery (CWM or TWRP).
Once installed open it.
Then Hit Menu button and select “Install OpenRecoveryScript” (jfltespr is for Sprint). Once installed it will tell you it's done.
You can then use GooManager to 'reboot to recovery'.
Rom Manager uses a 'temp recovery' that often doesn't work.

I'm not sure what I'm missing. I tried this twice with the same outcome.

Does this mean that it was actually successful event though I had the unable to mount and failed messages???
In twrp >advanced fix permisions.
Also check the size of storage you have left on your ExternalSD.
You may also want to flash Reverpats repacked TWRP v. 2.6.3.1 in recovery - now that you have recovery.
Grab it here
Put on your ExternalSD, boot to recovery, install zip from externalsd.
Then reboot 'RECOVERY'.
Repair permissions, reboot phone completely. Then back to recovery and try backup again.

you're missing like half of your stuff. you can also fix permissions in rom manager if you have that instead of twrp. i'm far from expert status, but maybe try changing your default backup format (in the backup and restore part of recovery mode) to tar?
Could also try PC Odin the recovery tar(s) either twrp, CWM or Philz (CWM based). They're here just search.

Sorry, but I'm completely new to this. Would I just get the .tar for the recovery and put it to PDA just like a stock ROM?
yes
Just can't get it to work. Here is question, since I already have custom recovery I just can't save a backup...is there another way to backup the ROM? Maybe to my computer, then I could just transfer it to my externalSD?
So this is pretty much where I am stuck
Ok, so I got the phone rooted, custom recovery installed, and the one mod that I really needed flashed. I am unable to backup my phone with either Clockwork or TWRP. Both tell me that data can't be mounted.
Is there another way that I could save a nandroid backup to my computer, then move it to my external sd card to be flashed through the custom recovery if needed?
Any help would be appreciated.
Hey there.
I accidentally wiped my whole internal storage after factory reset, and now I can't access (copy) new rom to my NS. Tried both TWRP and CWM, but both were unable to mount the storage, and therefore nothing shows up in my PC as removable device. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance :/
I think that you should be able to fastboot an older version of cwm via usb on pc, an older cwm has a working mount storage and you could flas a rom via pc

But I already figured it out, managed to install new ROM with ADB sideload.
Btw why isn't the USB storage still not working in new TWRP and CWM?

Not quite sure why is it like that, but an older one should do the trick, you can try the latest 6.0.5.0 and see if it works with it
