I'm running AOKP ICS and just have a few basic questions?
1) How do I sync my Defy with Picasa? I can't see any options to sync with or upload to picasa
2) How do I change the video recording sizing between standard and HD?
3) How do I prevent newly installed apps being placed on my home screen?
Thanks
1) In the play store you can find two applications for picasa
2) Your defy have red lens or is a defy+ ?
if is a defy ,you can check with the application of play store "defy red lens" or looking at the camera lens if is green only rec in 480p and if is red rec in 720p
3)Just hold down the application icon and move it to the Trash
Ah so there is no built in functionality for picasa like there is in HTC Sense or Samsung Touchwhiz? And there is no official google app? The ones i can see are from 3rd parties.
I have a red lens defy, but there is still no way to change the recording quality. Also there are no iso settings or focus or anything in the camera app. On the HTC you could click an area of the screen you wanted to focus on e.g faces etc..
Is there no way to stop new applications being put my home screen? It's a chore to have to move them one by one every time I install something?

In Play Store settings, un-check AUTO ADD WIDGETS.

I'm tying to figure out how to use the front camera for taking pictures. I can do the video stuff no problem, just not take pictures. Seems silly the native camera app would not offer this.
From what I read, there should be an option in qik to do this, but from the one I downloaded from the market, I'm not seeing this option. I'm running Frankenstein and have checked through all the various mod paqs and there is no qik app in there that may have this feature enabled. What am I missing?

Inside the camera app... Click the Top left icon on the screen and select Self-Shot.
Is that what you are looking for?
Perfect thanks so much! Guess the internet docs on this not working through the camera app are wrong.
hi i had searched the forums and youtube and i have not found any video of the xoom original livewallpaper, can someone take a video of the live wallpaper in action? the one that come preinstalled in the xoom?
it only comes with four installed. Maps, which lets you set up a map as your background (you can imagine that) holo spiral, equalizer simple, and spectrum..... none of these are new so I'm sure you can find them in some corner of the web.
They're the same as any other android device.. accept bigger. I'd video for you, but don't have the tools.
I'm currently using star field, and it it working awesome with no lag and no battery hit.

I tried to take a picture to a document in a completly dark place , and I couldnĀ“t focus, i tried with default sense camera, camera zoom and camera 360, in my previous phone, samsung i900 it switch on the flash while focus an then took the picture.. i cant do it with hd2.. any help will be highly appreciated..
t seems that anyone ere likes to take pictures in the dark)
Yeah i know where your coming from, anywhere it's very dark or very bright it's impossible to see when your trying to focus,i was on the beach today with my son and taking some snaps of him playing and i couldn't see with the sun but thankfully the photos turned out ok but with my old digital camera i was able to see a lot more.
Just take the picture. The flash will come on and the picture will be able to be seen.
This is something I was stuck at too. Normally, on a phone with flash, in the dark, trying to focus would temporarily activate the flash to let the phone see where to focus, and then fix the focus on the spot and shoot the picture.
My HD2 won't do that. Just one of the little things no one thought of.
use the torch app widget to flick the torch on, it will; stay on when you jump to camera and focus will work.

pro-hdr-camera has a torch option in the flash settings which keeps the led on so you can focus in complete darkness, bought it just for that feature. also take pretty decent shots.

I have the last CM9 nightly installed. 19th May. It has, I guess, the new version of Google talk i.e. v4.04-299849 (330). In the settings it implies that it has video chat option but beside the contact I see only the microphone icon. No video icon is being displayed. Is this the same for everyone? Is there a work around?
Defy doesn't have a front camera... I guess that's why video call doesn't work. And even if it did, what would the point be - if you could be seen, then wouldn't be able to see the other party.
Can we use the back camera

Thanks for the reply. The camera (back) was used when I was using CM7. Is there a way to force it to use the back camera if there is no front camera?
Bump
Anybody? Defy CM9 gtalk video chat?
Is there any way to make apps like: YouTube, WatchESPN, NBC Sports, Dish Anywhere, etc. display full screen video around the camera instead of being cut of. Due to the cut off up top YouTube video's are also cut off at the bottom of the screen slightly.
Really interested in this also! Maybe with root?
I can say that MX Player videos get cropped and I wish they didn't.

Not a problem on DirecTV Now. Did I read that the November security update also addressed this?

No, I'm on November update and no full screen option.
Youtube Apk
There is a YouTube modded apk that allows the pinch to zoom feature to work for irregular aspect ratios. Im not 100% sure if this will work on the Essential Phone however it works perfectly fine on the LG G6, it should just crop out some of the video so it can go full screen. Just download the MS Config file and the YouTube apk, dark theme is optional. Unfortunately I cannot post any links as I am a new user, but you can find a link on the LG G6 full screen YouTube thread.

No go, still doesn't work. It does the full screen animation but still shows the black bars.
Yep, me too. Will watch this thread and hope they fix it soon.
Amazon Prime full screen display for 21:9 movies
Saw "Arrival" with Amazon Prime app which utilizes the whole screen including the camera notch bar. Wow! what a sight. Hope Netflix, Hulu and some other video player app can do the same soon.
I'm really upset at the lack of immersive experience. Not a single video app takes advantage of this beautiful screen-- excepting Amazon which is hit or miss with full screen. It seems to differ from video to video...
Anyone know a tweak or a hack to get some immersive support?
Thanks

I guess nada?
I don't know how (and would love to know) but custom ROMS (lineage for example) does the full screen mode.

It super annoying especially when watching videos in Chrome and the nav bar is white and still shows the status bar. If Lineage really does get rid of it, then I might need to rom
Viewing in fullscreen is possible with the aforementioned app. The pinch to zoom doesn't work due to the notch fill in not being enabled. To use fullscreen download the app, enable developer options, and once you've enabled developer options go to essential notch settings, set per application, and choose the app. Then click always use notch area. Pinch to zoom will now allow video to fill the screen, and the YouTube app will make use of the new formatting.
