I am familiar with adb and fastboot, been using it on my Gnex for a while now.
I unlocked and rooted my N7 when I first got it and everything seemed fine. I could reboot into recovery and flash ROMs, all was well. Then I tried flashing a kernel at one point and when I went to reboot back into the system it got stuck on the splash screen. Now I find that it does it quite frequently during different processes.
Currently:
-If I reboot into recovery via "adb reboot recovery" it goes in no problem.
-If I power my device off and hold the buttons down to open bootloader, then chose load recovery, it gets stuck everytime.
-It also gets stuck trying to boot up to android sometime, not just going into recovery
-The only fix while it is stuck is to hold down buttons and load bootloader, then type: "fastboot reboot"
The only part of the unlock/root process that gave me an issue was the recovery backup command:
mv recovery-from-boot.p recovery-from-boot.bak
But recovery is always there, just sometimes it gets stuck trying to get to it...
What is happening?

There is a bug in the boot loader that requires you to be plugged into a computer to access recovery via the power button+ volume buttons method.

No matter what i do it just boots into the recovery even if i flash another rom it goes back to cwm. I dont know what to do please help? I cant even shut the screen off its been in cwm for over 3 hours now \:

This is about the 15th post I've seen this week about someone screwing up their n7. If there already isn't one there needs to be a step by step video for the correct way to unlock, root, and flash Roms. I suggest others read heavily before doing any flashing. Its bad enough the boot loader is already screwy.
The toolkit does everything for you. All in one method and you're done.
I'm sure its his .img

I had this problem happen with my Xoom.
Boot into the bootloader from recovery. There should be an option to do so.
In the bootloader flash a different recovery.
Then reinstall your ROM. It should boot.
If that doesn't work I would suggest flashing the stock images in fastboot and starting over.

I had a similar problem on my og evo. Try seeing if you can flash the recovery from a computer while booted into cwm. Then it'll reboot into new recovery, you flash rom, and you stop sharding your pants

Even choosing "reboot bootloader" in recovery?
If that doesn't work, connect to you your computer and using adb type the command
Code:
adb reboot bootloader

I dont have a reboot bootloader option but when i go to reboot system it goes straight into cwm like i said.
Also fastboot/adb is not working. When i run a command it says "waiting for device" on my computer
Sent from my myTouch 4G Slide using Tapatalk 2
On a side note, i had tryed everything i formated the sd in cwm and now it appears on cwm as if theres "No files found" but on my computer everything i had previously is still there.
So there is a connection to the storage part of the device but not adb or fastboot

Hmmm. You should have a working adb while booted into a custom recovery. Are your drivers installed correctly?
Also, the reason why you computer sees the files is because with mtp it caches the files.

OP will stop making threads like this if people stop recommending toolkits......................
And definition of brick is beyond repair - unable to boot up, e.g. Black screen when power button is pressed, not even the Google screen.
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?

Sorry I wasn't trying to bust your stones. I haven't rooted yet because of all of the posts like yours. I've just seen more problems with flashing on this device then any other that I have with my past Droid devices. What we really need is apx (spelling?) Drivers and n7 files for a sure fire recovery from any disaster
Hopefully I don't have to start another thread.
I too think I bricked my Nexus 7.
I was having trouble and I accidentally cleared a file from the System UI app (its a system required app) which caused me to loose the 3 buttons on the bitten of the screen.
So I went to CWM to do a restore which said it failed.
After that it would not boot.
Its just stuck with the Google logo on the screen.
I held down the power up & down volume buttons and I get a screen that gives me that START button on the top right of the screen with the text in small size on the bottom left.
I can use the up and down volume to make the start button change to recovery mode or bootloader but activating them just goes to Google logo.
Can I recover or is it totally lost?
I also don't remember if I left the Nexus 7 in Debug mode which is usually required to perform custom Roms
Thanks
Rob

There is not custom recovery installed yet and when I do try to go to recovery mode, all i see is a little android man with his stomach open with a red exclamation point above him. Does anyone have any tips?
Just click around on volume rockers like up and down a couple of times. Until you will see recovery. Then factory reset and reboot.

You can't, only mods can..
But this thread brings up a good question for someone like me coming from a locked bootloader device with hacked custom recoveries which I knew how to use in dire situations..
Anyways, say I botched my system on the N10 and I am bootlooping, how do get in to custom recovery to flash a different ROM/zip/backup? Stock recovery? I am currently using TWRP - and I like it.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
To access the hidden menu in stock recovery tap the volume down button while holding the power button. You can then factory reset and recover from the bootloop. This is a common issue.
I found a solution
All you need to do is root it or re-root it... It worked like a charm!
I have plugged in my nexus 4 i press adb reboot bootloader then i press fastboot oem unlock i click yes . afterwards the guide said that i choose recovery mode and a a green anroid would pop up and afterwards i should press volume up and power to select factory reset . sth went wrong , i don't know what and my phone started normally like i had just pressed power button. then i tried doing again the steps but when i choose recovery mode an anroid with an ! inside a red tiangle pops up. Yes ... I just bought it . I read lots of threads before I start the process of rooting but I had never read for an android with ! In a red triangle
So your bootloader is unlocked?
Can you still get into the bootloader?
Looks like all you need to do is flash a custom recovery. This can be done using the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img

Download a recovery.img, place it in the folder where you keep fastboot, flash. What you were seeing was the stock recovery. You're OK. Panic gets you nowhere.

See, this is what happens all across xda...someone doesn't research their issue or don't understand it, but they pursue it anyways. Pointless.
Wasn't seeking an argument, just dont like being "corrected" when valid info is given. If the user is to lazy to Google how to use fastboot... Well then that's his issues and can sit in bootloop land for all I care. You can only help so many people before well....stuff becomes redundant. BTW the Nexus was the absolute easiest phone to root, so if the user can't even grasp that tint concept we will be holding their hand their entire stay in the community.

If you thought I was correcting you, you're mistaken. I quoted your post because it was the most helpful and added to the solid information in it.
Should the OP be having this issue at all? No. But rather than berate him I chose to help. Hopefully this scare will be the impetus needed to cause him to learn and prevent these kinds of things in the future.
I tried rooting my device and i flashed twrp, but when I tried using things such as wipe cache and dalvik cache in twrp it said that it failed. So I tried wiping the system but that failed as well. I then just rebooted my device. Then when it got to the Google logo it stayed there for 5 mins and now its stuck at the nexus logo. Please can someone help me, this was my first attempt at rooting and I think that I bricked my phone. Can I just send it back to google as an RMA because I am still under warranty.
Do not RMA your device. Google didn't get you in this situation, you did.
On a happy note, you can easily fix whatever you did wrong. Follow the instructions in the link below. If you run into problems note where it happened and let us know.

Its fairly hard to brick a nexus, worst case scenario just follow a guide to return to stock
But for now how about just wiping clean through fastboot, reinstalling recovery (check md5sum and make sure its for mako) then use adb side load to install ROM of choice
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Now boot to recovery and choose sideload under advanced options

Let me start off by saying I apologize if this is posted somewhere already.
Here's my situation. A couple days ago I lgflashed back to stock. All went well. I then rooted and installed TWRP. No issues at all. I didn't take an update, modify the stock ROM or even flash another ROM. Just ran stock rooted. Today, I pick my phone up, go to turn it on and I'm in recovery. No big deal, right? Well I can't get out of TWRP. My backups are still showing, but when I restore it and reboot the phone I'm right back in recovery.
I can't get into download mode either. Not sure what happened and everything was fine earlier in the day. Any thoughts?

I'm so glad your back up and running again. I've been following your thread. And thanks for sharing the fix.
Does that mean that without your knowledge, your phone may have probably automatically updated itself (OTA) when you left your phone overnight? That's why you were stucked in recovery? Because it seems so odd that you didn't do anything wrong and it suddenly behaved that way. And I have read somewhere here that OTA just installed itself automatically without user intervention. So confusing if that did happen. How is that even possible?
