[Q] Booting into Recovery sans computer fix? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone been able to get any recovery to work when launched from fastboot without being plugged into a computer? It's quite the trifle when I'm trying a new rom. Basically, if I'm not at home, and if I break the rom somehow (flashing new roms/patchs/etc), I can't possible get into recovery. I've tried TWRP.

Not until..
A. Someone writes a new boot loader (Or modified the existing one)
B. Google fixes the bug in the bootloader

I prefer cwm touch which you can get from the site. Or you can flash the button version from rommanager
Twrp does work tho, but I've read issues with restoring backups.
Booting into recovery on the device in a way is messed up. The button combo method to enter using the bootloader hangs when not connected to a PC, so there are two options on getting into recovery.
A. Connect to a PC and use bootloader
B. With a working OS, reboot to recovery using an app such as rommanager or goomanager
If you ever flash a rom that won't boot, u need to connect to a PC and boot into recovery via bootloader (button combo).

I use TWRP and had successfully restored now a couple of times. Once was a complete device replacement where I restored the TWRP restore files from my workstation.
How I do my backups to ensure I can restore from a total loss.

Ah, I was curious if this bug still existed or not.
I'd go with CWM, quite stable, easy to use, and you can flash the touch recovery, speeds it up.

Thanks, I read somewhere that if you go into system/ and rename recovery-from-boot.p to recovery-from-boot.bak, fixes the bootloop...can anyone confirm this... thank in advance

Try it. Bootloader issue still exists regardless.

I'm a TWRP guy all the way. I have never had an issue restoring a backup, and the ability to compress my nandroid is invaluable.

TWRP has definitely converted me.

Stuck with recovery

Made a mistake. Maybe a huge one.
Erased stock rom, etc before copying new rom onto sdcard. Now I am stuck with fastboot and recovery. Going to recovery connects "grouper" which I can not find driver for (installed asus drivers, samsung, google usb).
Gonna try to flash stock rom back and do all over
If fastboot recognizes your nexus 7 you can recover. Just flash the Google stock image in fastboot mode.
I don't have the link, it should be easy to find though.

Good news.
After flashing stock image like 10 times I figured out that CW recovery didnt work properly. Tried TWRP and it worked fine.

You never updated your bootloader did you? Cwm works fine, but it didn't before I updated the bootloader (and only twrp worked then)

[Q] Nexus 4 boots straight to CWM

I used the wugfresh tool to flash a customer recovery which I downloaded from the CWM site. IT was the CWM flash recovery img.
I flashed it and now whenever my phone boots, it goes right to CWM and NOT to Android. Can anyone help me?
Use the toolkit to reflash it back to stock and do it over.

[Q] Nexus 4 (SOFT BRICKED)

Hi,
I recently bought a Nexus 4 and rooted the device using the WugFresh Toolkit 1.8.0
Everything went fine and ROOT was successful.
Then I installed a custom ROM named LIQUID SMOOTH which when started went into Bootloop mode.
Instead of wiping the Dalvik Cache and Cache, I formatted the phone in a hurry.
I had got a backup of the previous ROM in my Nexus but before I could transfer it to my PC, I wiped the phone completely.
Now I am able to get into only RECOVERY MODE.
Could I get some help for the issue I am facing now?
Thanks in Advance.
You need to flash a ROM. You can either flash the factory images though fastboot, or use adb sideload in a custom recovery to flash a ROM of your choosing.

Well I tried the ADB Sideload Option first.
Did not work out.
Tried flashing a ROM, but for the flashing procedure according to WugFresh toolkit, I need to get into bootloader mode.
But I am not able to get into Bootloader mode.
Any idea what to try out next??
Turn off your phone, press volume down + power and hold. That should get you in the bootloader.

Nexus 7 (2012) WiFi Reflashing Issue

Hi guys!
I just want to get some idea of what could be the real problem of my Nexus 7. I can boot on its bootloader, i can access also it's recovery menu. The problem is my Nexus is in boot loop. It can't pass through the nexus boot animation (5.1.1) and I am trying to downgrade it to 4.4.4 or at least fix its' boot looping issue.
I tried reflashing a stock ROM via cmd and Nexus Toolkit, still it didn't resolve the problem. It looks like the whole partition was in READ ONLY that right after completing the flashing procedures and rebooted it all went back to the same problem. Bootloader is Unlocked
I would appreciate if someone can give me an idea on how to resolve this. TIA

Cache is present also..
Thanks for the input..

My N7 has latest Pure Nexus, GApps and Parrot Mod. Try flashing it by first formatting system, data and caches. Recovery is TWRP 3.0.2 If it boots performance will be much better than stock

Will try that.. Thanks!
