Trading my white note n7000 for Galaxy Nexus GT-I9250 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Should i do it? why or why not?
I want nexus for the zero shutter camera + jellybean and stock android. Tired of waiting around for jellybean for this device and ive tried all the roms, but unfortunately they have one glitch or another that just ruins it for me.
I might be trying to trade with someone on Xda (is this against ToS?) (bad idea?)
Any advice on how to do this securely/ not get screwed?
I dont really care for Spen and huge screen size, id never put either to the use they deserve, i just use my phone for communication/social networking. i used to browse reddit alot but when i discovered thumbnail viewer addon + reddit enhancement suite, that all changed. i cant even bring myself to read normal web pages anymore on my note, i just goto my laptop for reading.
I have never flashed a brick kernel. Does the galaxy nexus have a brick kernel problem? If so how to check the one im getting isnt potentially bad?
The phone itself does have small cosmetic damage. It hasnt affected the performance of the phone what so ever.

Ive tried all the different cm10 roms and im very thankful to the devs. However there are some glitches i cant get over like notification volume causes all volume to mute/requires manual adjustment < annoying as hell. My internal drive completely dissapearing. Soft reboots, hard reboots, memory leaks, etc. the list goes on. I guess i just want a nexus device so i can be rid of these issues.
As for the camera i was unaware zero shutter was bad. I never looked into it i just wanted to be able to takes pictures of my baby and she moves around alot. Figured zero shutter could make it to where i could catch some photos of her since she is fast.
EDIT: what rom would you suggest?

i changed from galaxy nexus to galaxy note so i have some experience about NEXUS for u:
- quality of camera is too bad (note better)
- battery life is about 3.5 - 4 hours on screen (note better)
- in all roms from stock to cook is smoother than galaxy note (Nexus better)
- more roms than NOTE
- Especially ANDROID 4.1

Nexus S VS SGS for CM7/MIUI

If anyone has experience with both devices on MIUI and/or CM7 could you share the difference between them? Im weighing whether Nexus S is a worthy upgrade so any input would be appreciated
Btw im not considering SGS2 because of no voodoo sound
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Good thread, I was actually wondering the same thing (not after upgrading).
I know that for Vodafone AU the Galaxy is maybe a better device. The Nexus S here does not have the Amoled screen and also does not have the external SD (which I don't use myself).
I had a quick go at the stock 2.3.4 on a Nexus S and it is definately laggy compared to my CM7 with launcherpro. I cannot say if it is the combination as I would like to see CM7 with LP on the nexus S.
I find Miui laggy on the Galaxy when it comes to the menus in the settings. I am not sure if it is better on the Nexus S as they have access to full sources AFAIK.
K.
If external SD is important then its pretty easy which one you should get.
With Nexus S you will get latest updates from Google (which again might not be necessary if you are staying with CM7).
SGS just got merged in mainline for CM7 so now we get nightlies everyday. From my personal experience, there is 0! ZERO! lag with CM7 and only a few quirky bugs.
Also wouldn't the SGS be much cheaper than the Nexus S? Especially for the AMOLED screen version of the Nexus?
Therefore I suggest SGS imo.
If you use CM7 ... SGS is probably the best choice.
I agree with the consensus....if you are planning on using CM7 or MIUI then that nullifies the advantages the Nexus S has as a "flagship" (early updates from google, etc).
In terms of sheer hardware then, the AMOLED and the external SD make the Galaxy a clear winner over the Nexus S.
Nexus S camera sucks. I moved to Nexus S but gladly back to Galaxy S. No 720p recording, no SAMOLED, no gorilla glass, no SD slot, no radio, poor speakers, no TV out - Nexus S is actually a downgrade if you ask me.
I love Galaxy S. I just wish it had a body of Omnia 7 and a dual LED flash.

No GorillaGlass in Nexus S is very strong "NO" for buying the device.
Maybe a few bonuses in Nexus, but really? You wanna have micro (and not only) scratches after month of using the phone? I know what happened with my Xperia after three months of daily using... :/
All the replies are very interesting.
Not many people seems to say but despite not using samsung roms recently i think having them as options are a bonus as well.
I totally agree with the omnia 7 build quality. If there was one thing that i didnt fancy about my SGS it would be the extreme lightness and build quality. I mean i prefer light to heavy but SGS feels a tad too light
For noobs like me download mode is life saver lol
EDIT does anyone know the reason to lag in MIUI settings?
Btw there are few combination of kernel rom and radio which almost removes the lag

I am going to speculate without even knowing why but my theory is that Miui uses non standard menu options. Also on a Miui Rom the actual values of the different options are on the main screen (not sure if that makes sens).
If you use an application like GPS test for example, when you go to the menu, you actually can see what the values are set to before you even click on the different options. It is nice to see this but Miui problem in my opinion is that it lags in these settings menus and maybe that's the reason .
Your title did ask about (CM7/Miui) so nearly all the extras don't work anyway (video calling, FM radio...etc). I am sure they will work at some stage as I saw codeworkx started doing some changes for the radio.

I did not know the handset did not have the Gorilla glass either so in my opinion apart the actual flash everything else is a downgrade.

[Q] what is the best rom fot the GN GT-N7000 and why?

First of all, this thread is intended to compare people`s opinions only, pls keep the critic levels down please as people work very hard to make us have this freedom of changing roms in our devices
I`ve fot my GN few weeks ago and in this time I could test some different Roms, including tw based ones, some of them are good and stable, but there was always some detail I didn’t like (even some icon, im very picky for this), im a fan of simply and functional though, so in my opinion the winner till now according to my experience is cm9 nightly, below im explaining why:
1- The whole system has 163 megas agains almost 1 g from many others
2- The appearance is awesome, extremely similar to Nexus UI
3- It runs smoothly, fast and is pretty customizable
4- All my apps from the past TW roms works, i`ve just went to my google play account, checked my apps, swiped to the left, saw all my previous apps and installed them again without any FC till now (4 days already running cm9, installing new apps everyday and nothing)
5- Google maps and navigation working fine for me (even my external gps sygic working)
6- The music equalizer is awesome and functional.
7- No need to root, u can change any settings on the phone easily (don t recommend it if you are beginner though)
8- The Motorola atrix tv out effect when locking the screen is really cute, also the lockscreen is more functional than the TW one.
9- The battery life is really comparable to the GB, I went home yesterday with 79%, played till 12 am with the phone and came back to work today still reading my news on it with 8% juice. It started to charge today around 9 am on the usb and in 3 hours it has 55 % (phone on and wifi syncronizyng everything)
10- Camera works really fine
Cons:
1 fm radio doesn’t work ,so what? With 5 bucks u buy an mp3 player with fm radio and saves the battery from your phone, smartphones are not still made to listen to music on them.
2 loud speaker bit broken, so what? My phone conversations are private anyway, the normal mic works fine and I don’t have a car, if yes, I would go for a Bluetooth car device. However, it works on skype calls, im a foreigner living in Europe and my family is in brazil, do u think I would call them out of skype? So, perfect for me.
3 no touchwiz, thank god? S pen doestn work, but u can write notes if u want in any other note app, I personally always write my notes using the speaker writer or the keyboard as my calligraphy is horrible and I don’t draw, so what?
Not ota updates…hmmm, fine though
what about you?
short answer: CM9 because.. it's CM9
Add to the cons:
No MHL output support
Limited USB OTG support
Limited HD video playback support
No S-Pen framework. (S-Pen pressure sensitivity goes away, button on the pen doen't work, and no S-Pen gestures)
I am currently on LPY, using Apex launcher. It's not the best experience to be sure, however, at least everything works. I'm really interested in giving the Paranoid Android hybrid ROM a whirl, but seeing as it is based on CM9, I'm assuming it still has the same bug list.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE AOSP/AOKP/Hybrid builds, but I don't think I'll be using any of them as a daily driver until almost everything is working, or at least the important stuff. For me, on the Note, in order of importance, I would say my priority list would go something like this:
S-Pen framework stuff
Full hardware accelerated HD video playback (incl. 1080p)
USB OTG
MHL output
I really hope that devs are able to make this happen!
point
u got a point there for sure depending what a daily driver means for you, in my case even 5,3" inches is too small to watch videos how much minutes it takes for your battery to die watching hd videos with lpy? or seconds?
I was between go back to some stock rooted GB because of the battery but decided to give it a try to cm and im enjoying, there is also this bricking witch problem with the lpy, so i prefer to wait till i get smth safe or stick to cm9, at least is safe.

Well i see that you're CM9 fanboy but Jade Eyed is so right in every thing.
If i want to have Vanilla i would buy Nexus (and it was cheeper anyway), i love my Note for every other aspect that Nexus doesn't have!
I love to draw on my Note, i love my big screen where can i watch movies on my night shifts, and i can watch 3 hole 2h movies before my battery die!
I love my OTG and my MHL support my Note has limiltless storage with my 64 GB usb stick in my pocket!
Vanilla Android is faster then Touchwiz?! Says who?! Note will destroy any phone in any benchmark even on GB!
I love my Note because it isn't Nexus. And it isn't like any other phone. And now i'll downgrade him to Vanilla Android to take away half of his functionality and apps?! Tnx but no tnx.
Cm9 nightlies ,reason is speeeeeeeeed and stability ,I've tried official GB and ICS, they were too slow and laggy for me, and kept reminding me of just how much faster my stock GB s2 was compared to the note .
But after cm9 it's safe to say that the note is as fast as an s2 .
ParanoidAndroid is the best! It is a rom that makes our notes big screens most useful (; you all should at least try it!

Just pulled the Nexus 10 out of the box and turned it on!!!!

Well guys I ordered this from Walmart on the 18th and it got to my house today around lunch. It does have some pretty bad light bleed at the 2 bottom corners but if I turn up the brightness it is less noticeable. But I haven't watched a dark HD quality movie like the new batman in a dark room either. Been researching this device for the last few months and was skeptical to get it after hearing so many problems with the screens and the lagging situation in the stock browser and games. I have been rooting and romming phones since my att captivate i897 with the help of everyone here at xda of course and now I want to make my nexus 10 a better experience than what I'm getting out of the box. I know, I know there are tons and tons of threads on here with guys in my exact situation and I need to read, read, and read some more. Plus Google search bar is my friend when it comes to knowledge. I know all this already. What I wanted to know from you nexus 10 owners is this..........
1. Is mskips toolbox the way to go with this device ( I already downloaded it)
2. Are you guys having better results running a custom ROM with clock able kernel to help alleviate the lag issues?
3. Also wanted to know which browser you guys like the best quickness wise and least laggy?
4. I have not installed the update yet either. It says it's ready to install. Should I or are you guys having more issues with 4.2.1?
5. Can I do what I normally do once rooted and take off all the Google bloatware that I don't need with tibu?
Guys I'm really not trying to beat a dead horse and yes I will continue to read everything I possibly can on my situations because (knowledge is power)!
Thanks in advance guys for any tips or advice!
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda premium
BTW guys I just wanted to say that I'm sitting in my pitch black garage typing this with the brightness set pretty low and my eyes really don't notice the light bleed that much or maybe it just doesn't bother me that much. I also wanted to say that I'm definitely a nerd when it comes to having the latest devices with the best hardware and I'm happy with my nexus 10. This is my first tablet and I know that the apps designed for this will come eventually. I know the games will too. As of now I think I made a good choice. If the light bleed bothers me enough or I can't fix my lagging situation or waiting for a while sometimes for a page too open like on here the xda app, I can always return it for a refund. I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Sorry for the long rants.

Best advice....don't do anything (root/ROM) until you've spent a week or more with the tablet stock. Go ahead and take the update, you may want to factory reset after it though to make sure you are sitting on a clean, stock, 4.2.1 system. I've had zero issues with the update...or my tablet.
Play with the tablet, get a feel for the hardware/OS stock and see if you need to (or want to) install a ROM later. Also this gives you a chance to have a base feel for comparison if you do install a ROM later
Make the decision based on your experiences with the tablet and not on what you read here.
So far I've found no uses to Rom It. My S3 is running AOKP only because WiFi Tether and a couple other features...like cpu throttle/battery life. I think I'm going to keep my N10 pretty much stock....but I do have Nova running...pretty smooth and update went smooth as well. It does get frozen from time to time, but a simple reboot fixes it. I
When Freezing occurs or major lag - This is a new device and new O.S. updates will come.
Thank you very much guys for your input. I did use mskips toolbox to unlock, root, and add recovery. Main reason is all the lag I'm experiencing with chrome browser and in games. Want to install AOKP browser. Very smooth compared to chrome. Also wanted to be able to maybe add an overclockable kernel to speed things up a little in gaming. Need for speed most wanted and defense zone 2 HD has horrible Lag. That upsets me too because this thing has awesome internals and I know it can shine at anything I throw at it with just a little help from guys on here at xda. I'll just keep my thoughts to myself because there are enough threads here to complain about what Google and Samsung could have did to make this tablet shine.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda premium
Ocean browser is the way to go. By far the smoothest browser I've seen on android. I used PaulObrien's super boot I think its called to root without unlocking. I did that and then took the official OTA updates. Worked a charm.

1. Not a big fan of any toolkits; so I don't know (I do stuff manually )
2. Might be placebo, but I've had a better experience in CM 10.1 nightlies than stock; but then again, CM has a more updated Kernel and source (atm)
3. AOSP Chrome isn't too bad either actually (I haven't experienced any of the horror most people seemed to report)
4. Update
5. You can freeze unneeded apps (or just remove them), install adblockers, and get access to certain data files

[Q] Stock Nexus 4(rooted) Mute bug

So I've had my phone for about a week now and the first day I got it I rooted it, and unlocked the bootloader using the Nexus 4 toolkit. I'm liking the phone but coming from the GS3 I am noticing things that bug me like the screen color saturation (know the N4 is not amoled and won't have the same color reproduction), and many 4.2.1 software bugs. The most notable bug for me (I searched this forum and didn't see any mention of it) is my media volume will randomly mute itself and lock into the mute setting. I've tried to unmute the media volume by - using the volume rocker, going into settings >sound>volumes and adjusting the volume from there, and holding the power/sleep button and pressing the mute icon on the power menu... all of these things don't work and I have to restart my phone to get the media audio back. This is a very aggravating issue. I want to remain on the stock experience, and I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue????
Hmm, I just rooted my phone today and haven't really encountered any bugs like that... (Still stock...) Why don't you give CM10 a try? It's basically stock + a few additional helpful features... I'm going to keep listening to music and stuff on my phone to see if I can encounter that same bug.
I came from an S2 and I have to admit that I don't miss the Amoled screen at all haha that sharpness is beautiful...
Well to be honest I'm waiting on installing any custom ROMs bc I'm probably going to switch back to my GS3 with in a week. There is a pretty stable CM 10.1 build for the GS3 and I want to keep my N4 on stock so I can get OTA updates as soon as they're pushed.. Also I miss the LTE speeds that I get on my GS3, and my quadrant scores on the N4 were sadly low compared to my GS3 that only lagged by ~250 points.. N4 has 16GB storage while my GS3 has 80GB (64GD SD card ).. And u can't even compare the cameras the GS3 is head and shoulders above the N4s.. With all this said I think I'll be flashing my GS3 to CM 10.1 soon and just use my N4 to get an early hands on with the newest versions of Android.

Jellybean update for Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 is bad.

Hi everyone, I have recently updated my Galaxy Note N7000 to jellybean through kies. And the phone now is smooth in screen transactions and lot of new features added to Touchwiz, but the phone has become too slow, laggy and unresponsive. Is it happening with every Galaxy Note user or is it just me?
I mean, even the phone app is taking around 5 seconds to load, and sometimes after a call is disconnected the phone dial pad is shown broken, battery backup is reduced now. Black clipping issue still there and for me it looks like it has even become worse now. The back button has become too unrespinsive compared to working on ICS, I mean the back button takes effect after nearly 2 seconds after pressing which was not there in ICS.
Seeing all these issues I feel jellybean is not a worthy upgrade compared to ICS when we see the mobiles working. But jellybean itself is too good to see with new Touchwiz.
Is it happening only with me or is it same to every Galaxy Note N7000 user out there?

Earlier, 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 were also very unstable, wait, haste is the enemy of perfection.

Welcome to the world of Samsung. *Insert Samsung sound here*
AW: Jellybean update for Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 is bad.
Same. I agree with you. I will stay on the latest version of ICS for Germany. I think it's N7000XXLRT. Only feature is Multi-Window and new Touch Wiz and Google Now.
Multi-Window - only apps which were optimized
TouchWiz - I always use Apex launcher
Google Now - Lag

My exp with JB update was horrible
On the first day I updated my phone with JB (indian JB). I did not even rooted my phone so I used kies for the JB update, for 2 days it was running fine with horrible battery performance and on the third day when I was trying to share wifi for iPad all of a sudden it got switched off and stuck on samsung logo....
power+volume up + middle big (horrible looking button) was not working. My only hope was it was going to download mode. As I only use one number, so it become nightmare for me. After getting help from ThaiDai I was able to flash with GB.
Now I am using GB in these JB days. This note made me feel to switch to iPhone/ sony (previous phone and literally you cannot make any mistake with flashing /rooting because they they provide some excellent PC software to revive your phone).
Here is my side of the story. Downloaded and flash the Indian ROM as soon as it came online in Sammobile. Was working fine for few hours and then it started lagging like crazy. It was so bad that I went to GB, did a full wipe and flashed it again using mobile odin again and the same result.
Transition from one page to another took around 1 sec. So this time went to GB, full wipe and used Kies to update to JB (updated this morning only). The phone feels fast. Lets see what happens in few days.
The caption of the thread is true to the last letter, overall, compared to gb and ics performances. Here I refer performance, not features.

I tried speedmode kernels an d impovements are almost non noticable.
Almost all the problems mentioned here by everyone is true. I hope these problems are rectified in the 4.2.1 or 4.2.2 update. And seeing the news that Galaxy Note 1 will no longer be updated more than to 4.2.2 makes me feel even bad. Anyway I will thank samsung for giving jellybean at most, but, the worst part of Samsung is that it gave a very buggy jellybean update. Looks like, some how Samsung just wants to get rid of previous flagship devices.
I don't know about others but somehow I kind of like the new TW interface. Folders look pretty neat now compared to boxes in ICS. camera is a bit quicker now. Sound output from speaker is REDUCED (why???). Google Now works fine for me, even on 2G speeds Google now responds perfectly but obviously it takes little more time than on 3G. Gallery looks pretty but takes time to load every time even after being on running apps list. Radio (FM) works fine. Black clipping issue still there and is more worse than previously noticed (anyone agree on this? Or is it just me).
Multi-window supports third party apps as well, not just samsung inbuilt apps(that's good).
I am attaching screen shots of OS version and build number and etc etc with screen shots of third party apps working on multi-window feature.

not sure if this helps, but when I went to ICS I had similar probs (V.V.V.laggy) on the GB rom and samsung support suggested a hard / full reset and that solved it.
has anyone tried that? just dont forget to backup!

G.
Hard reset and FORMAT internal memory(in settings). It's laggy only at the beginning.
