thanks for replying.
what is CM7? DO I NEED IT INSTALL CM7 AS WELL?
OR I CAN JUST USE 407 Olleh Rom?
CM(Cyanogen Mod)is one of the famous custom ROM at android.
Number follows at 'CM' is shows you that what's the base version of Android.
CM6 - It bases on Froyo version.
CM7 - It bases on Gingerbread version.
CM8 - (if it releases)It bases on Honeycomb version. But It didn't exists.
CM9 - It bases on Ice Cream Sandwich Version.
Originally this CM only supports limited kinds of devices but developers were edit it to able to use on other devices(this works calls 'porting'). Developer calls hPa ports other device's CM7 to Streak.(and also MIUI)
CM7 is fast and stable. But In my opinion, CM's battery consume late is higher than other ROM. I don't know other people agree with my opinion. But battery seriously drains.
Except that CM7 is fine. If you worry about this Problem. I recommend you to Use DSC ROM. It's also fast and stable. You can find it at below URL.

Dear warboat, thank you for those steps. I shall try to install cm7 today. One question though, am I required to root my steak? I am already running 407 olleh rom on my device. Do I just start with the latter part of instructions specific to cm7?
Thank you.

No, you do not need to root to install CM7. Installing CM7 will also root your Streak in the process.
Make sure you have the files needed and just start with instructions after the 407 install.

Dear Warboat,
Thank you for the prompt response. The following are the reasons why I am considering to upgrade to CM7.
Background of the device:
I purchased the streak about 2 months ago and it was shipped with ROM 357, Build 16864 being a Froyo 2.2.2. This device was purchased in India and used in India. However, I experienced the following problems with the device:
1. Frequent errors (viz. foreclose or wait)
2. Bad battery life (if the device were charged by 9 am in the morning, it would drain by approx. 6 pm in the evening.
Fortunately, the official 407 Olleh ROM was released of which i read good reviews. Hence, I immediately I upgraded my device to Gingerbread 2.3.3 without rooting the device.
I was happy with ROM 407 as it reduced the said frequent errors upto a great extent and drastically improved the battery life. (the device now stays alive throughout the day)
However, there are some different problems which have cropped up with the device on ROM 407. They are the following:
1. Sometimes I am unable to answer phone calls as the swipe fails to respond.
2. Sometimes, while on a phone call the phone screen freezes and fails to respond. Hence, I am unable to either END the call, or put it on speaker, or perform a conference call. This sometimes gets cured in the event I press the Power Button to turn the screen off/on.
3. The device fails to notify me of a 'call wait' when I am already on a call. Hence, I end up missing those calls (some being important and urgent) and my only option is to return those calls once I have disconnected the earlier phone call.
4. Automatic conversion of SMS into MMS. However, this was cured by installing Handcent on my device.
5. Bad phone call reception: Sometimes, the party on the other end of the phone call complains of my voice cracking up. This however happens only when I am indoors. Perhaps it is a network specific (Vodafone) problem, as I have used the sim card of another network (Airtel) and I did not seem to face this problem with the latter network. (Again, not sure/fully convinced). May be it is a software or a hardware problem. (Honestly, I am quite lost with this issue and am considering getting it checked with the Dell service centre). I came across something called 'Mod for Dell Streak 5 Increases Signal Strength'. http://www.xda-developers.com/tag/dell-streak/
If you are aware, how effective is this mod and would it work in India?
So my question... would upgrading to CM7 solve most/all of the above mentioned problems?
Also, you mentioned that upgrading to CM7 would root my phone in the process of the installation. Hence would rooting the device void the warranty of the phone. In any event, how important/useful is the warranty? (From what I understand, folks at Dell are not very helpful and their service is poor).
I mention warranty especially in light of the phone call poor reception problem mentioned above.
Also, some apprehensions about CM7:
earlier today I was reading yours and some other folks posts regarding CM7 and the issues regarding battery life. It is important for me that the phone stays alive throughout the day as I would not be having access to the charger during the day. However, I understand that the battery life reduces mainly due to the wifii connection being activated. Please note that I shall activate either data access and/or wifii ONLY when required to use the internet on the device (which is for a relatively shorter duration in the day).
Because of such usage, in your opinion do you believe that I should not have a battery problem with CM7?
In the event the above mentioned problems get solved without upgrading to CM7, would you still recommend upgrading to CM7 or any other ROM? Would there be a general/over all improvement in the device?
Additionally, by some misfortune, if I am unable to successfully upgrade or after upgrading, I am not very happy with the new ROM, is it possible to roll back to ROM 407 Olleh without any issues?
Your help and assistance is much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Arjun Sheth
CM7
I haven't had problems with calls so far although I have not used it extensively with calls.
The issues with touchscreen during calls in 407 ROM is mainly due to the proximity sensor handling. This issue can be fixed by editing build.prop with proximity sensor delay changes. In CM7, the proximity sensor works fine during calls and there is no touchscreen issue.
SMS works properly and doesn't get converted like in stock 407 Olleh ROM (there is a build.prop fix for this).
I have always felt the Streak was not the best at reception compared to other smartphones I have. I have three Streaks and I have noticed slight differences in reception between them running the same ROM and using the same carrier. It is likely a hardware issue. I am not sure if there were slight changes in hardware in different production batches of Streaks or it may just be a quality issue where slight variations in the antenna and/or its contact with the logic board affects its performance. I have not tried mods to boost signal strength as I am satisfied with its performance.
You can flash any ROM by using the appropriate recovery.img first, just like you would have done with 407 Olleh ROM. The procedure is the same and links for recovery files and stock ROMS can be found in the wiki. If you do have any issues with ROMs or fear that rooting may void warranty, you can return it back to any ROM. There is no rollback mechanism although backing up your firmware setup can be done.
As for battery, I can't really answer it as most Streaks are running batteries of different ages and health. I notice different battery performance just among the batteries I have. I am not real fussed about battery as I mostly carry a spare with me and usually get around 12 hours or so on a single charge with a battery in good health. I don't use my main streak with wifi except as a wifi hotspot when it is plugged in to power. However, I did use my spare streak in wifi only (no SIM card) and using it maybe an hour or so everyday, I managed to run for 100 hours unplugged with more than 10% battery left. This was with unmodified CM7 and wifi never disabled. This particular battery was the stock Dell battery that has been in this particular Streak which I have used everyday for over a year. CM7 is not the most efficient with battery but I find it acceptable.
In the end, CM7 is the most stable ROM with the least bugs that I have ever used on the Streak. It is extensively modded and has good performance. I value that over any issues with battery usage.
hi, thank you for the detailed response. as regards the phone reception, it was probably a hardware issue as i had the phone replaced with dell and it now works just fine.
as regards upgrading to cm7, may be i will wait until mid of may since i have way too much on my plate till then. since time does not permit me, i shall continue to stick with rom 407 olleh atm and may be amend the build.prop file to fix the proximity sensor issue. when i get the time to work on it, i will contact u and wud be grateful if u cud help me out with it then.
thanks

I'm having a few issues with my Nexus 4.
I'm running CM10.1, using the latest nightly and I'm fairly certain that these problems can be attributed to this, but I would like to confirm.
The problems I have are:
- phone randomly shuts off (I'll go to use the phone and the screen won't turn on, have to press and hold power for a minute to get it to boot back up)
- lags on lock screen all the time
- occasional lag throughout the system even when there is 800 MB+ of free memory
Are these problems because of the phone, or is it just CM?
I install a rooted stock firmware will I still have these problems? Is there any way to get LTE with stock? I heard that they removed the ability to change it in 4.2.2.
Not sure about your other questions, but I can tell you that it's not CM10.1. I'm running this rom (3/13 nightly) and it's smooth as silk. No lag and no random shut-offs. Did you wipe data before flashing?

If you haven't done a full wipe then I suggest you start there. Normally you shouldn't even begin to ask for help until that has been done. If it has then I suggest try another ROM to see how it runs with it

Hi guys, I am having some issues with my Girlfriends S4 (i337 AT&T Version).
The issues I am having are below, but I want to know if you guys would recomend me upgrading it from 4.2.2 to some other ROM that may clear out these issues and what you would suggest me to upgrade it to?
I want something that is STABLE, fairly close to the stock S4 Build or even the Stock Android GUI and easy to upgrade too.
Or is the phone just screwed and I should look into replacing it? I have not upgraded the phone from 4.2.2 because as I understand it, doing that locks the bootloader and makes it a pain in the ass to root and upgrade.
Issues she has:
-When recording video, sometimes it wont record voice, sometimes it does. No idea why this is doing this.
-Sometimes video's refuse to play, then it starts working again.
-SD Card appears to disengage at times. Its Lexmar, maybe I need to get a Patriot like mine.
-The phone just intermittantly disengages from the Cell Network or Wi-Fi network. She sees it mostly when she uses Viber. It runs well, then it just up and loses its connection then starts working well again
-Has had a few issues where people dialing her just cant get to her, its as if the phone has been turned off, or she cant dial out on the network.
-In certain cases repowering it corrects the issues for a while so I tell her to repower the phone once or twice a week.
This is what her phone is running:
SAMSUNG-SGH-I337
4.2.2
I337UCUAMDB
JDQ39.I337UCUAMDB
If this is not the correct place to ask these questions, please direct me to a better place, but I have found this forum to be an amazing resource with knowledgable people and I am not sure where to go
Need more info... like:
1. Is the phone rooted?
2. Location the phone is used?
DID you try OTA update

First off don't let it do any updates, and if you are on MDL, it will be trying to.....get rooted real fast, and go from there....
Root the device
flash a recovery
then go rom hunting....
And for some reason you do not want to do all I have mentioned, do a factory reset and see if that fixes the issues.....if you factory reset, beware that it WILL wipe your internal sdcard...back it up first....
good luck!
So for a while now I have not been able to update my PRL or Profile. It hasn't bothered me because for the most part the phone has worked fine until recently. A friend texted me and said he was going to call me. He text back a few minutes later and ask why I didnt answer. Phone was next to me the whole time and it didnt ring or so any kind of notification that he had tried to call. Took him 3 calls before my phone rang and he got through.
I have applied for a few jobs within the past few weeks and have heard nothing from anyone which I am surprised because I was referred to one company by and friend who put in a good word for me and said that his supervisors were really impressed with my resume. So now I feel like this issue could possibly be costing me job opportunities and I want to get it figured out.
The errors are 6602 and 407. I've tried to do it over 4G and put my phone just in CDMA mode for 3G only and get the 407 code for 3G and the 6602 over 4G.
I am running Stock rooted/odexed MK2 and I just did a clean flash of the rom again clearing data/cache and dalvik seeing if that would help which it didn't. I have reflashed the modem seperately also with no help.
I have seen many threads of others having this issue but no answers on a fix. Has anyone experienced this and actually done something that has resolved the issue?
If you feel it may be costing you a job, why not flash a nand of a stock rom, assuming you have one

I did, I flashed back to MF9 using this http://www.rwilco12.com/Files/Devic...H-L720)/Stock ROMs/MF9/Full Restore/Unrooted/
Which should be a stock factory restore, still would not update profile or prl. From there I updated to NG2 with Samsung Kies and I am still not able to update either.

What kernel do you use?
(I fixed this issue I my phone, but SERIOUSLY, what seemed to fix it MADE NO SENSE, so I'm not going to to relate it again, you can look up my posts if you want, but I wouldn't waste your time. I'm more interested in what kernel you are using... if it isn't KT-SGS4, then it doesn't matter.)
Other than that, have you tried the ##72786# dialer code, which is supposed to reset that stuff (didn't fix it for me personally)? You may have to reactivate your phone though (I did), which isn't that much of an issue...

For kernel version it shows 3.4.0-2162929 which I'm guessing is the stock NG2. I haven't flashed anything else since updating through Kies to NG2.
I've done the 72786 dial code a handful of times and it still didn't help. The only thing that solved was a issue I had after I first updatd to NG2 I had no working 4G. Phone would only connect to 3G and that was when it was in CDMA only mode. Aside from that it hasn't helped with the PRL/Profile update issue I'm having.

Yeah, that does sound like a stock kernel to me. Have you tried updating it through the Sprint Zone app? In Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Network Mode, if it is not set to Automatic, you can try setting it to that and see if it lets you update after reboot, I have heard that can help but did not fix it for me (I have it set to LTE/CDMA). Have you seen this thread: Galaxy S4/Note 3/Mega - Update Profile/PRL/HFA Fix for Sprint/Boost/Virgin Mobile/etc? It is complex (don't IGNORE steps 5, 6, 7 and 8, which most people in the thread seem to...). I have not personally used this method, I was planning to before my issue resolved itself, but I didn't have a donor GS4 either (damn it, I JUST remembered that I DO, I f*ed up the USB port on my first one and completely forgot about that! BLOW MY MIND! But anyways...).

Yeah, I honestly don't really understand what that thread means when it talks about flashing to legacy accounts. I believe I have a SERO account (I don't know, my wife pays the bill... :silly: ) and the updates worked fine until I think messing with the APNs to try to fix my inability to send MMS messages messed things up. I never flashed any legacy accounts or anything.
So... at this point, even though IT MAKES NO SENSE, I will tell you what SEEMED to fix the issue for me. I STRESS, this MAKES NO SENSE TO ME, but after months of being unable to update my PRL/PROFILE, after doing the following, I was suddenly able to update them. It is likely an EXTREME coincidence, but for the hell of it I will now tell you.
Using the Pro version of Solid Explorer, I copied the Carrier folder from the root of my phone to my external SD card. THAT IS IT. YES... THAT IS IT. NOTHING MORE. I did NOT copy it back, I did not change anything. HOW this could possibly have cured the problem would seem to make very little sense, I can only conjecture that Solid Explorer, in the act of copying the folder to my external SD card, somehow 'refreshed' something in the carrier folder in the root of my phone... and I am grasping at straws here. I think you can probably understand WHY I did not want to reveal that this is what SEEMED to cure my issue, because it is so unlikely, and more likely an extreme coincidence and something else happened that I am not aware of, but that is the only thing I know of that I did related between when it was not working to when it was. So now you know at least (and as I have told a few others, there is no point in not trying, other than the crushing disappointment of it almost certainly not working)...
I should add as well however, now that it occurs to me, that I use the KT-SGS4 KitKat 4.4 TouchWiz kernel, and had for a long time suffered from a loss of mobile connection and GPS. requiring a reboot to get them back (within a similar time period to my PRL/PROFILE issues). I seem to have fixed the mobile connection/GPS loss by choosing the 'correct' governor to use with that kernel for my ROM, and it is not IMPOSSIBLE that THIS occurred at the time I was able to update my PRL/PROFILE, but I do not remember exactly, and I'm PRETTY CERTAIN I still had the issue with the mobile connection/GPS loss after updating my PRL/PROFILE, so I think that likely rules out KT-SGS4 as a culprit in this issue. (But then, I was forgetting that we already established that you were on a stock kernel...)

Yeah that copying the carrier folder don't seem like it would do anything but maybe I'll give it a try. Whats the best way to root right now? I just want to make sure it will let me unroot the phone if it dont work and no trip knox incase I have to bring this in.
Do you know what bootloader you are on? You said you were on Sys MK2, then went back to MF9 and now are on NG2. When you went to NG2, unless you took very specific steps to keep the MF9 bootloader, you would be on the NG2 bootloader now, which includes Knox, and you can no longer go back beyond NAE I think. If you don't know what bootloader you have, get DeviceInfo https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jphilli85.deviceinfo from the Play Store and under the Software heading, see what it shows for the last 3 digits for Bootloader. This makes a difference on the best root method.

Bootloader and software version both show up as NG2 on Device Info.

I'm not an EXPERT on this subject, but if you are on NG2 stock unrooted right now, I believe you can use: CF-Auto-Root to root it. Or, here is a stock rooted version of the NG2 ROM:
[ROM][NG2] Stock Rooted NG2 (which mentions that it has Knox removed).
As far as tripping stuff, I'm somewhat unsure about that to be honest. I have always used Triangle Away on my phone, but it has a warning now not to use it with a custom kernel (which I use). My counter is at 3, but I am out of warranty anyway.
I spent a few hours on chat with Sprint. They couldn't figure it out so I'm bringing it in tomorrow. Guessing I'll get a new phone. The people at the Sprint store seem rather limited in their knowledge, at least they were last time I was there.

I guess if there are no signs that it has been rooted, that's probably a good way to go. You apparently had a phone pre-Knox and now I think you will get one with a Knox system, but it doesn't matter in your case since went beyond the point of no return already with the bootloader... I don't know if you have the new Spark model (tri-band), I don't know if the still make the old plain one like I have anymore...

I got the phone I have now about a month after the GS4 came out so its non sparks. I stayed on MK2 for so long because I couldn't find a newer rom that looked to be stable and not have to jump through a bunch of hoops to install it. The Odin screen shows everything being zero and offical software so I should be good. I am going to sign out of all of my accounts before I bring it in being I have a lot of apps bought through the store that only work on rooted phones. I hope I can get a tri band to replace it. My friend has a triband GS4 and it gets much better data speeds than mine.
Yeah, I mentioned elsewhere here before that I actually didn't know of the existence of the "Sparks" version of the G4. I screwed up the USB port on my G4 before upgrade time, so I had to buy another G4 on Amazon. Upgrade time has come up, so I was just looking and saw my phone listed as "Non-Sprint Sparks", which I thought meant that they called it the "Sparks" model because I hadn't bought it from Sprint... took me a while to figure out what that actually meant...
Sprint online nor the store could fix it so I got a new one.
No rooting but error 407
As titled, I've not rooted the phone. I'm getting error code 407 on attempts to update PRL and Update profile. Download updates manually does nothing. Note I'm on a Samsung Note 4, Sprint. Had updated to Marshmallow 6.0.1 late March but then above actions persist since then. I'm using Wi-Fi only, Sprint service disconnected as I couldn't pay bill when I lost job during a disabling illness.
I haven't been able to update prl profile or firmware for over 8 months. I am not rooted never have been I have called customer service over and over replaced SIM card did the ## stuff nothing has helped. The phone works although service isn't as good as it could be and says there is a prl update available but I always get connection error 6 on all 3. I also have serious battery draining issues as far as my data I do get a strong 4g lte connection just service is low and sometimes drops when I am close to a sprint tower every other phone gets full bars really on any network especially sprint. I hope someone can help I like my sph-720 other that that and honestly I can't afford to keep up with the Joneses. Hopefully this is enough info please help

Have you done a factory reset via recovery? Or you might want to flash latest full stock

Close all open notifications
I have tried all the settings in the Statusbar area, and I am not able to find the setting that turns on the "Close All Notifications" functionality that comes stock. It usually is a little "X" that lets you close all the notifications without having to swipe all of them individually.
How do I get the S5 lockscreen widget back after I removed it?

It's under AllianceSettings->Statusbar and toggles->Notification panel Header options->AOSP Clear Button
Wiped and installed this ROM and have been loving it. Just had a problem come up lately though and am not sure what to do. Everything is running fine, but it seems that I can't access 4G at all. When I first installed, for a couple days I was connected to 4G constantly. Now, it connects to 3G only even though I know there is a 4G signal available. Anyone experienced this? Please let me know any steps I can do to properly diagnose what is happening and what I should do to remedy the situation.

I had a similar issue on my previous phone, and it turned out my SIM card went bad. Try re-seating the SIM card or see if you can swap cards with someone else to see if that makes any difference.
Phone suddenly reboots and boot loops
Hey,
I am using the AllianceRom with safestrap, AllianceRom installed on stock rom slot. Recently, my phone would suddenly reboot while I am using it, making a call etc, then get stuck in a boot loop until I pulled out the battery, then sometimes it would start up well or get back in a loop.
Any help? Is there a Verizon app doing this?
Still have no 4G using this ROM. Tried reseating the SIM card and it just goes back to 3G. Just odd to me that it would work, then one day randomly turn off 4G and still use 3G. Even if I change the mobile data network to LTE it still says 3G.
Am I able to dirty flash version 2 over version 1?
installing iOS7 (iOS 7_0.apk) theme on stock rom
Hey,
I noticed the iOS7 theme/launcher is available in a AllianceRom. I have been having random boot loops issues with my phone and still trouble shooting before I can go back to AllianceRom.
Thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/help/phone-randomly-reboots-boot-loops-t2920860
In the meantime, I am back on stock (eww i know), anyways, I wish to be using the theme as I do my tests, but whenever I try to install it, I get "App not installed" error.
Any help?
Phone Crashing
Samsung SM-G900V NE9
At least once a day but usually several times a day my phone will not wake up when pressing the power button or home key. It freezes and the only way to get the phone back on is to hold down the power button and volume down button to reset phone or remove/replace the battery. Can anyone help?
I have the same problem. Recommend you flash stock rom. And monitor it.

Got redirected here.
Finally flashed this after being on an outdated ROM that never got attention.
Noticed couple things, first phone seems to get rather warm while using it (never did before)
Second got the below picture on one page, not sure what that means.

Any word on build 3?
Anyone know which setting changes the color for text message content (not the sender, the part of the message itself you are able to read) on the dropdown panel? Its all gray and very hard to read although everything I can find is set to black or white... I can't for the life of me figure out what setting this is but I'd love to be able to read text messages without opening them from my dropdown menu. Any help would be appreciated. Using Textra and Nova Launcher with Color Splash theme in Alliance if that matters any.
I am on this ROM, but still on Baseband Version: G900VVRU1ANCG and Android Version: 4.4.2. Should I update to 4.4.4? Should I go to Baseband Version NE9 or NI2? I want to stay on this ROM for now. How would I go about doing this? Thanks.

This rom only supports NE9 as of now, follow instructions of the OP in the main AllianceRom thread to update.
Wait, What?
Ok, I cant be the only one who read this and is ****ting his pants and crying with tears of joy right? I mean, this is freaking awesome! Only question is when, how, and why isn't this public news anywhere else where others can help. Like open source that **** ASAP!
Theme
How do I get the standard black glass theme for this rom?
Add Toggles
I am trying to add the extra toggles, but I don't have the "Scripts" menu at the bottom of custom settings... (it is not there) do I need to install xposed first? or am I missing something else? I did install build 2... never had an earlier version installed if that makes a difference.
