thanks for replying.
what is CM7? DO I NEED IT INSTALL CM7 AS WELL?
OR I CAN JUST USE 407 Olleh Rom?
CM(Cyanogen Mod)is one of the famous custom ROM at android.
Number follows at 'CM' is shows you that what's the base version of Android.
CM6 - It bases on Froyo version.
CM7 - It bases on Gingerbread version.
CM8 - (if it releases)It bases on Honeycomb version. But It didn't exists.
CM9 - It bases on Ice Cream Sandwich Version.
Originally this CM only supports limited kinds of devices but developers were edit it to able to use on other devices(this works calls 'porting'). Developer calls hPa ports other device's CM7 to Streak.(and also MIUI)
CM7 is fast and stable. But In my opinion, CM's battery consume late is higher than other ROM. I don't know other people agree with my opinion. But battery seriously drains.
Except that CM7 is fine. If you worry about this Problem. I recommend you to Use DSC ROM. It's also fast and stable. You can find it at below URL.

Dear warboat, thank you for those steps. I shall try to install cm7 today. One question though, am I required to root my steak? I am already running 407 olleh rom on my device. Do I just start with the latter part of instructions specific to cm7?
Thank you.

No, you do not need to root to install CM7. Installing CM7 will also root your Streak in the process.
Make sure you have the files needed and just start with instructions after the 407 install.

Dear Warboat,
Thank you for the prompt response. The following are the reasons why I am considering to upgrade to CM7.
Background of the device:
I purchased the streak about 2 months ago and it was shipped with ROM 357, Build 16864 being a Froyo 2.2.2. This device was purchased in India and used in India. However, I experienced the following problems with the device:
1. Frequent errors (viz. foreclose or wait)
2. Bad battery life (if the device were charged by 9 am in the morning, it would drain by approx. 6 pm in the evening.
Fortunately, the official 407 Olleh ROM was released of which i read good reviews. Hence, I immediately I upgraded my device to Gingerbread 2.3.3 without rooting the device.
I was happy with ROM 407 as it reduced the said frequent errors upto a great extent and drastically improved the battery life. (the device now stays alive throughout the day)
However, there are some different problems which have cropped up with the device on ROM 407. They are the following:
1. Sometimes I am unable to answer phone calls as the swipe fails to respond.
2. Sometimes, while on a phone call the phone screen freezes and fails to respond. Hence, I am unable to either END the call, or put it on speaker, or perform a conference call. This sometimes gets cured in the event I press the Power Button to turn the screen off/on.
3. The device fails to notify me of a 'call wait' when I am already on a call. Hence, I end up missing those calls (some being important and urgent) and my only option is to return those calls once I have disconnected the earlier phone call.
4. Automatic conversion of SMS into MMS. However, this was cured by installing Handcent on my device.
5. Bad phone call reception: Sometimes, the party on the other end of the phone call complains of my voice cracking up. This however happens only when I am indoors. Perhaps it is a network specific (Vodafone) problem, as I have used the sim card of another network (Airtel) and I did not seem to face this problem with the latter network. (Again, not sure/fully convinced). May be it is a software or a hardware problem. (Honestly, I am quite lost with this issue and am considering getting it checked with the Dell service centre). I came across something called 'Mod for Dell Streak 5 Increases Signal Strength'. http://www.xda-developers.com/tag/dell-streak/
If you are aware, how effective is this mod and would it work in India?
So my question... would upgrading to CM7 solve most/all of the above mentioned problems?
Also, you mentioned that upgrading to CM7 would root my phone in the process of the installation. Hence would rooting the device void the warranty of the phone. In any event, how important/useful is the warranty? (From what I understand, folks at Dell are not very helpful and their service is poor).
I mention warranty especially in light of the phone call poor reception problem mentioned above.
Also, some apprehensions about CM7:
earlier today I was reading yours and some other folks posts regarding CM7 and the issues regarding battery life. It is important for me that the phone stays alive throughout the day as I would not be having access to the charger during the day. However, I understand that the battery life reduces mainly due to the wifii connection being activated. Please note that I shall activate either data access and/or wifii ONLY when required to use the internet on the device (which is for a relatively shorter duration in the day).
Because of such usage, in your opinion do you believe that I should not have a battery problem with CM7?
In the event the above mentioned problems get solved without upgrading to CM7, would you still recommend upgrading to CM7 or any other ROM? Would there be a general/over all improvement in the device?
Additionally, by some misfortune, if I am unable to successfully upgrade or after upgrading, I am not very happy with the new ROM, is it possible to roll back to ROM 407 Olleh without any issues?
Your help and assistance is much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Arjun Sheth
CM7
I haven't had problems with calls so far although I have not used it extensively with calls.
The issues with touchscreen during calls in 407 ROM is mainly due to the proximity sensor handling. This issue can be fixed by editing build.prop with proximity sensor delay changes. In CM7, the proximity sensor works fine during calls and there is no touchscreen issue.
SMS works properly and doesn't get converted like in stock 407 Olleh ROM (there is a build.prop fix for this).
I have always felt the Streak was not the best at reception compared to other smartphones I have. I have three Streaks and I have noticed slight differences in reception between them running the same ROM and using the same carrier. It is likely a hardware issue. I am not sure if there were slight changes in hardware in different production batches of Streaks or it may just be a quality issue where slight variations in the antenna and/or its contact with the logic board affects its performance. I have not tried mods to boost signal strength as I am satisfied with its performance.
You can flash any ROM by using the appropriate recovery.img first, just like you would have done with 407 Olleh ROM. The procedure is the same and links for recovery files and stock ROMS can be found in the wiki. If you do have any issues with ROMs or fear that rooting may void warranty, you can return it back to any ROM. There is no rollback mechanism although backing up your firmware setup can be done.
As for battery, I can't really answer it as most Streaks are running batteries of different ages and health. I notice different battery performance just among the batteries I have. I am not real fussed about battery as I mostly carry a spare with me and usually get around 12 hours or so on a single charge with a battery in good health. I don't use my main streak with wifi except as a wifi hotspot when it is plugged in to power. However, I did use my spare streak in wifi only (no SIM card) and using it maybe an hour or so everyday, I managed to run for 100 hours unplugged with more than 10% battery left. This was with unmodified CM7 and wifi never disabled. This particular battery was the stock Dell battery that has been in this particular Streak which I have used everyday for over a year. CM7 is not the most efficient with battery but I find it acceptable.
In the end, CM7 is the most stable ROM with the least bugs that I have ever used on the Streak. It is extensively modded and has good performance. I value that over any issues with battery usage.
hi, thank you for the detailed response. as regards the phone reception, it was probably a hardware issue as i had the phone replaced with dell and it now works just fine.
as regards upgrading to cm7, may be i will wait until mid of may since i have way too much on my plate till then. since time does not permit me, i shall continue to stick with rom 407 olleh atm and may be amend the build.prop file to fix the proximity sensor issue. when i get the time to work on it, i will contact u and wud be grateful if u cud help me out with it then.
thanks

I was on the phone with T-Mobile Support (611), regarding my HD2 and the issues that I am still having with this device. The rep. stated that T-Mobile is aware of the issues on the phone and that the 1st ROM update did not resolve them all and caused some new ones.
She stated specifically this new update would resolve the issue of the device hanging after you try to wake up the phone...also, the "unreliable data connection" issue is still prevalent (I still have this problem - and I have tried everything I can think of or read about). She stated that there are other fixes that they are working on to resolve with this new update.
I could not get a solid time frame, but she stated that it should be pretty quick, given that they issued the first one within a short time frame after the HD2 release.
Now, I'm not sure if this means an upgrade from 6.5 to 6.5.3, but I wouldn't count on it. I just hope it is released soon. This device is so nice and so awful at the same time. Constantly I experience little nagging issues that make using this device such a hassle.
Have you tried just flashing it to one of these custom ROMs?
No I have not yet tried the custom ROM yet on the HD2. I like the way the T-Mobile ROM are, I just am getting fed up with the "unreliable data connection" BS. Also, the phone (since the ROM update) has been running slow and I don't think that is acceptable with the 1GHz snapdragon on this device. My only other issue is that the speaker phone stops working because T-Mobile added some stupid software to the device. If you dial 611, the software pops up and tries to solve your problem via webpage and stops the speaker phone from working till you restart the device.
While that is a short list of issues, they are major issues in using the device. But I think i will wait till this 2nd update comes out...if it does not resolve my issues, custom ROM here I come!
I belive flashing NRG will solve your issues It did mine.
Which issue did it solve? The data connection issue?
Data and freezing as well not to mention the phone just flies now. flashing a new radio fixed reception issue
well I will give it a try and see if it resolves my issues as well. I figure we have about a month or so before T-mobile releases the 2nd update. I know I will not be able to last that long with these issues. It is just a pain in the a-- to flash ROMs every day...I'm not into doing it all the time. I would like to find a good stable ROM and run with it. It just takes too much time flashing and reinstalling all those programs and changing the settings to where I like them all (too much work).
Like I said it is a shame, i really like this device on paper, but in the real world is just has some serious issues. I thought i would get a year or two out of this device when i bought it, now I am already looking to swap this puppy out. I'm looking to see what is coming down the pipeline. I refuse to go with WP7 (feels like the step backwards with it limitations as compared to WM6.5 - and i don't want a device that clones the iPhone of 4 years ago)
Anyone other suggestion on custom ROMs?
NRG 21911 is very solid and you don't have to flash everyday it has xda uc and pim backup witch will back up and reinstall all your software I did it yesterday in about 20 min. I refrain from flashing during the week. the the first time it will take about an hour just read all you can on it. 670megs free space on device 13gigs on sd and 300 megs of free RAM
I'm downloading the 23121 Cookie Dinik Glass version right now...I'll let you know how it works on my device. thanks for pointing me in this direction, appreciate it!
tmobile rep told me the same thing after I had a warranty exchange, she said to expect the update soon as there are alot of people experiencing problems with the current software. Although to be honest after running Android on my HD2 I dont think I ever want to use winmo again.
are you getting everything to work with Android? i did not think they have a fully functional Android ROM for the HD2 yet
They're all the same...
My biggest complaint is the bad data connection. Paying too much money for crappy connection. I can't even get connection in my lower level of my house. I think every carrier and cell phones all have their own problems. My two co-workers, one with Droid and the other iPhone have similar problems. Droid keeps freezing 2 warranty phone exchanges so far and iPhone looses connection frequently. iPhone guy wishes his would freeze so he could get a replacement. So it's not just me.
Help me please
So i tried to install android, and on gthe web it said i needed to install hpsl well my phone had it set to 2.10 they stated i needed 2.08 or earlier so i did it but the install still didn't work !!! How can i return my phone back to 2.10 and still get my warranty back
android fo real?

i read on pocetnow that android is being worked on on xda. seen a couple of post too, but there is always some component not really working. is there an official android post where all the kinks are worked out? i would like to switch if thats the case. thanks.
Wow is all I can say about that NRG ROM....it is great! does everything I have been looking for, no data connection issues since last night (I'll report back on this issue as time goes by). It's fast and very stable (so far, but hell I'm impressed), and I did not even use most stable version the 21911.
The UI is great, I love the three pages of app slot, everything is within one or two finger stokes this way. It also gets rid of the apps that I don't want (ie TelNav, etc...) but keeps most of the apps that I do want...I can always install cabs for the programs I want from the official ROM. Plus it has cooked into it all those sweet tweaks and settings. Great work, I'm not even waiting for T-mobile to release the 2nd update any longer.
Thanks gtrplr71 again for suggesting this custom ROM, it's so nice, I don’t even think I will be trying out any other ROMs.
I would not get hopes up of a 6.5.3 upgrade. Could you imagine the Technical support nightmare if they had to troubleshoot 2 different OS versions?
This is one reason I think Android and Linux will really take off in the future.

There's a HD2 Android section in the original HD2 area (euro hd2 section).... but it is a work in progress. There are still a lot of issues and kinks. It will be a while before it works as well as a native android phone. But the progress they've made is unbelievable. It's great having both winmo and android on my phone.

your welcome don't forget to make a backup with pim backup to your sd card and use xda uc once you get things settled. Have fun!
how does the xda uc work? i could not figure that out, when I ran the app it stated that i did not have that file on my storage card...but it appeared there somehow.
Also, the incall record does not seem to work at all. when i lauch it (after I connect or before I connect a call) all I get is a blank lined page (note pad page).
And, is there a list of the added and removed apps somewhere? I could not find it in the ROM thread.
As for the 6.5.3 upgrade from T-Mobile, i don't think it will happen either and right now, after trying the NRG ROM...I don't care. I'm not even going to try the T-mobile 2nd ROM upgrade. Now with Android comes along on the HD2 (fully functional) then i will surely set up a dual boot situation on my HD2. That is like the best of both world.
(xda uc)-you wont notice anything different It will run and monitor the phone for new settings when you decide to flash a new build it will auto run and import settings and apps.

All, I just repeated my flashing of the last official upgrade posted on Oct 19th 2010 for the HD2 in the HTC web page, Support area. It makes the unit go TERRIBLY SLOW ALL THE TIMES!!, the memory consumption can arrive up to 90% with NO APPLICATION OPEN!!!!!!!! IT IS A DISASTER!! I think that if HTC see a forum here it will pay attention and remove that upgrade from web page. At least for the Chezck region. The phone said it had an amount of memory free when you installed programs, but when you went to see the value in the About area, the numbers were very different. I just moved back to the previous version.
you have hspl installed still, would be my guess.
if not, do a hard reset and start over. perhaps even flash it again.
Sir 90% of the problems on the latest stock Rom 3.14, isn't the fold of Device/Rom
But the user!
Stock Rom 3.14 isn't compatible with HSPL.
Is this a problem of HTC??? No!!!
Because this is a product create by users not support by HTC.
I've been using it for2 wks and I find it extremely stable and very fast. So except for some bugs n issues that I've already reported to HTC hoping for a hotfix soon (lack of slide down menu and inability to use other phone features during a phone call, poor radio reach/higher battery drain being a couple of ones that bother me the most), it's worth giving it a try if you want a speedy and crash free experience for a while.
Btw, in my case, the upgrade was from stock ROM 1.66, and no HSPL/cooked Roms ever installed.

Hi mandel4026,
I wonder why do you doubt the 'Tethering' option in the HTC official ROM upgrade.
The HTC website mentions:
'Tethering:
* Internet Sharing through USB or Bluetooth
* Wi-Fi Router'
as it's specification. I believe that they wouldn't turn-off the feature this ways through a ROM upgrade.
mandel is worried that he thinks since tmobile will charge seperately for tethering now, the new rom upgrade for tmobile will have the function bundled to tmobile applications and not as default in device tools like in roms elsewhere outside the US...i think it may not be the case, mandel

Has anybody found a fix for this or do we need to wait for a hotfix from HTC??

Ho! that's really stable then
Minor issues, who wants to use the phone features or bother about radio or battery efficiency??
I see that the HTC support are still doing good...
PS: do yourself a favor, replace their "romgarbage" and try some on this forum.
I had Artemis 29 for months with nearly no issues. It also solved all HTC rom issue I had!

Ok, I gotta admit I use another phone for calls usually, son HD2 isn't my primary phone for that matter.
I'm still on the fence about cooked Roms, I believe they aren't bug free either and besides, I'm worried about software conflicts (?), so I'm not sure. Not to mention all the hassle if ever needed to revert to stock roms. I guess a bit of 'bricking' phobia too.
Hello. Am on pdateam wp7 7740 rom. I have realized that anytime I access the internet or do anything concerning internet connection the bottom part of my hd2 becomes very warm everytime. It sometimes makes it unable for charging. I want to know whether anyone is also experiencing this problem. And also how I can solve it. Thanks very much....
i to have had this problem. i did NOT have it with ANY rom prior to mango releases. i asked over a week ago if this problem had been addressed and/or fixed in recent releases and have not had any reply. after reading this i suppose the answer is no. as i said, i didn't have this problem with any pre-mango roms.
after i installed yuki & xbmod's 7720 zune updatable anytime i would stream say netflix or youtube for more than 10 minutes i would get the dreaded orange/green flashing led (read up real fast and found out it is an OVERHEAT notification)
one thing that i found is a slightly damp or very cold cloth on the back in the VERY hot area for just a few minutes will cool your leo down enough to start to charge again (leave the cold cloth on as long as you plan on charging after you get the overheat notification). i just love my baby to much to run the risk of burning it up so i went to android.
i REALLY miss WP7 but unless this is corrected or someone can tell me for sure i'll stick with android.
(if anyone knows if this has been resolved or knows a better workaround i'd really appreciate it as i detest the whole lengthy process of going between android to WP7)
cheers

whoops, didnt mean to thank you, ah well, have one on me
anyhow, the only time i get that heat issue is if i go crazy with wifi, day to day its fine, but if i start transfering 100s of MB of data it gets toasty!
Some one shld please help solve this problem.
have you tried messing about with different radios?
the reason some networks use different versions is because the settings suite some areas better than others.
Start with hardware radios as thats easy to change, then move to software radio starting with oldest, mango roms did have a newer software radiuo built in so that might be answer for you
I haven't had this issue since the first wave of roms released pre mango in January. Ever since mango this problem has been cleared up. I'm on BTTF rom 7740. Back on pre mango roms it would get so hot I could barely hold it. But now on Yuki & Xboxmods rom it NEVER heats up. Just my experience.

ok thanks.and by the way, what's a software and hardware radio?..and can u please give me a list of compatible mango radios...
well, hardware radio is what you used to flash when dealing with WM6.5, you can find all the radios in the HD2 wiki or 6.5 development forum, that is easy to flash as all you have to do is stick it in tricolour bootloader, and flash via your pc using the customRUU, typically these are named
2.12.50.02
2.14.50.04
2.15.50.14
there are a lot more than that, different areas will like different radios, trial and error is usually the only way to go, for example, you may lose the heat issue but lose signal as well, or perhaps your battery life will improve or drop like a rock
The software radio is something windows phone brought to us, as far as i can tell the only way to change that is via flashing WP7 again, you essentially swap out the part00.bin from the install folder and replace it with a different radio version
a quick search on the windows phone 7 HD2 stickys should find what your are looking for
but these radios are typically called
5.52.09.16
5.51T.09.29a
5.65.09.11a
again, there are a lot more than those ive lists, i think there are about 11 in total.

Hi, _n0p_ i have tested DSC 0.7b1 and a few minutes ago installed 0.7b2;
there is not a problem about wifi or bluetooth (i have never seen a problem about bluetooth with any of the DSC roms).
Both of them are very stable and the battery life is enough.
I am using Launcher Pro,i am not using any app for wifi (except wifi reassociate coming with DSC roms, but never use or activate it)
Thank you for everything.
it's great news mate but don't open a new thread every time, it will add a lot of unnecessary clutter to the forum.. reply in the dsc's thread or via PM if need be
He's got less than ten posts as of when I write this so he can't post in the DSC thread.
_n0p_
Led activation in 0.7b2 DSConfig Tool doesn't work.
Thank you, fixed.
Thank you Sergei,i installed immediately and i am testing now.
Hi Sergei, there is not bluetooth problem with DSC roms starting from 0.6b, i constantly use bluetooth headphone with DSC roms.
I also cannot post in the development thread.
My question is, is it possible to remove the vibration from reboot/shut down system menu? I noticed I have no vibration when using reboot from the latest dsconfig app.
I find the vibrate often disturbs my other half when fiddling with my streak in the middle of the night.

No probs, i'll remove it. But it will affect shutdown too.
In reply to your question in dev forum.
"Also, i've found a method that can keep buttons lit even in screen-off state, but will require slightly more battery (1-5%). Do you need it?"
-----------
I find that your current version already has this facility, you can either leave buttons on or off by how you turn your screen off?
Current script cannot really keep buttons lit in screen-off state, it's just a side effect.
Anyway, I plan to release pre-3 tomorrow, and wanna hear about apps in rom to me non-system.

please is ussd working on this rom
No. USSD doesn't work on any Gingerbread ROM, not even stock 407. To the best of my recollection, the code for USSD support simply isn't present in the ROM because Olleh KT doesn't use USSD codes.
How stable is this Rom because i am yet to install it

This is a common issue for all the Gingerbread ROMs, including the stock ROM. If you want USSD codes, for now you have to go back to a Froyo ROM.
Hi, I recently got an S4 and installed Nougat RR custom ROM on it. It was all working mostly fine, but one day I tried to make a phone call and saw this strange behaviour. Once I put in the number and press Dial, the screen goes black and I lose control over the phone - can't evoke the keyboard, cancel the call or do anything else apart from hard reset. Interestingly the call actually is under way - it connects and you can have a conversation.
I don't use the Phone function often, mostly communicate via IM, but it is crucial that it's working, just in case. Therefore I tried few different custom ROMS from the I9506 dev thread- Lineage 15/16 and Cyanogen 13 - the same stuff happens on all of them. It works ok on a stock rom though. I also tried flashing different modem than recommended XXUDOJ2, to no avail.
I'm not very experienced with all this stuff, so not sure, perhaps I'm doing something basic wrong way. Though, my old phone S3 with CM 11 works fine on the same SIM card.
-phone: S4 LTE GT-I9506 according to IMEI
-bought in Europe (Poland) but now I use it in Taiwan
Can provide other details on request. Any help/ideas would be most appreciated.
If you are not concerned with loosing data or taking the time to go to the extreme step, to get a phone back from the dead, the best bet in a lot of peoples mind would be to reset the phone by flashing the original firmware. There are numerous threads here on XDA on how to do that.NB: Custom ROMs are not bug free, but even more likely to have issues than stock.
The hard question now becomes what is the correct firmware for your phone.
Sorry, just noticed you have tried and have no issue going to stock
First thing to remember is that each specific ROM has been built to work with a specific bootloader-modem combination. Using the wrong one could cause issues.
If you have matching ROM/modem/bootloader and still an issue, try a dalvik ad cache wipe and reboot. If you still have issues, get a logcat and post it somewhere on a text hosting site like www.hastebin.com and paste a link to it with your issue in the ROM specific thread. Also, I would suggest Oreo, as its still early days for Pie and most people have probably moved off of Nougat.

Thanks again for replying DJ, but perhaps I wasn't very clear The phone itself is not dead - it works fine. The issue is with the "Phone" app. Basically, when I try to make a call, the aforementioned weirdness happens - call is underway but screen goes black and I can't access any functions like keypad or cancel. I can Power Off and then the rom reboots and works again (though it always goes into Don't Disturb mode). When I try to make a call again, the same stuff happens.
I tried a stock rom and the Phone app did work. I don't want to use it though because it has all the google stuff and avoiding it is the main reason I use custom roms in the first place.
So far I have tried most of the custom roms the first two pages here. I tried to follow instructions and also to use the appropriate modems/bootloaders (actually, it's always UDOJ2 one). On all of them the Phone app has the same behaviour. Actually, I did sort of manage to get it to work on the latest unofficial RR (7.0.0) - it goes black too, but then screen comes back after some weird keypresses combo...bit sketchy, but workable. But then Line is not working on this rom and I really need this app too, so...
I can try and get the "logcat" from one of your roms (I really liked your RR and used it for some time on this phone) and then post in the appropriate thread...or would you recommend Havoc one instead?

No, I got it on a second read, and hence the strike out of the first part, on my first go at responding.
A logcat is best for a mostly working phone. Otherwise a last_kmsg; which still may provide some info on your startup/initialisation.
If you can't access the screen, setup and connect via adb before the phone becomes unresponsive.

I would suggest to do it on a LineageOS ROM as it would have less possibly buggy customization. Also, it would possibly have more users, and those threads are created by the guy who builds the base for nearly all ROMs for this device.
You may be better off to try Lineage16 as that thread is more alive, but Los15.1 would be more stable. I personally would try LOS15.1 first, and then if you get no help, flash 16.1 and try your luck on that thread.
Once you get a stable phone, then I personally would recommend HavocOS. It has the most customisations, even more than the old King RR, and hence I've moved from RR to Oreo Havoc; with a short step in between of Oreo crDroid.
Just realised, you said you historically used my RR build, which I assume that back then you did not have the issue. I will assume that it now has the issue? have you tried restoring from an old TWRP backup?

No, I susppose the issue was always there, I just did not need to make an actual phone call fro few weeks since i installed your rom. I'm in Asia and all the communications needs here are covered by Line messaging app. Then I went to a phone shop to recharge my credit, they needed to call some service and access the keypad and it all came out then.
I could still use it as a Line device, but in reality do need the working phone app too, for some emergencies when traveling and so on.
Will try to do a logcat from Lineage, thanks for your help. If it comes to nothing might try to pester you again in one of your rom threads
Issue solved, thanks to DiamondJohn: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79050487&postcount=980
It's the proximity sensor's fault.
