[UPDATE 2] My Atrix has just be shipped by Motorola - Atrix 4G General

After talking to Motorola via there motodev forum the guy in charge of the guy in charge of the motodev forums has shipped a Atrix to me for the linuxonandroid project for free!
Once I get the device you should see lots of extra work on the project for the atrix!
In the mean time I just wanted to introduce myself!
I'm zacthespack the lead dev of linuxonandroid and quite impressed with Motorola's willingness to support development projects
UPDATE
so Motorola when and sent me a Atrix 2.. Still very nice of them but not what we needed so I am in the process of selling the Atrix 2 on ebay to then by a Atrix so I can finally start deving on it
UPDATE 2
Atrix is now here just waiting on my internet connection to be sorted tomorrow then I can start working on it (oh and once I have root etc of cause).
I am still looking for a lapdock so if you know of one I can pick up cheap please PM me!

Awesome!! Its ALWAYS great to welcome a new dev to the forum! The development on the Atrix is kind of dead right now, mostly because the lack of drivers. Welcome aboard!

welcome! Have a good "deving" on the atrix.

can u build a tegra2 version ubuntu for Atrix?
The size should be as small as possible
welcome to atrix

Thats awesome.. Look forward to seeing your work. I hope you use your linux skills to get it working on all tegra 2 devices (i have a photon), especially adding to webtop. A fully running ubuntu 12.04 with unity on the lapdock would be epic!

Heya! It would be pretty awesome if you could upgrade Webtop into Ubuntu.

Welcome!
Now we need to get you a lapdock.

Welcome, hope we can help you with your devs. Atrix Community may be small, but very supportive.
Cheers.

My goal with the Atrix is the start by fixing Unity and the other issues that people have been having with the linuxonandroid project.
Then when I can get my hands on a webdock, prehaps a kind user no longer users theres..? Or it will have to wait until I have the funds to get one, I will look at building a custom version of the LinuxonAndroid distros to work nicely with the webdock.
Thats the plan anyway

Welcome to atrix forum

Indeed theres one on ebay for £70, however I move in a week so more available money for anything other than living is £0 xD had to move to a new flat as the landlord wants the one im in back..and the cheapest I found amounts to £2000 includes fees, deposit and first months rent.. thats alot for a Uni student living on his student loan and donations to his projects lol.
But yes at the latest start of October I will get my loan back through and will get one then we shall see

Do you think it will help to pool money together to reward an unlocked bootloader?

Thoughts?
I'd certainly donate.
It's an acer thing...i dont think money will help..
should help if we make a list with people that want to donate for the problem might draw a good crowd...
it might help even more to get enough donations together to buy a device to send to a well known developer. usually where the problem lies is that they do npt have money to go and buy another device since they have already invested in other ones. once a really well know developer gets their hands on the device we have is when big things start to happen. you just gotta find one willing to accept the device and hack it.

Yes, it'd be great to have a custom honeycomb rom especially since the source has not and never will be released (until ice cream sandwich, anyway).
I'd be willing to front some clams for the cause...I'd love a good custom ROM. Thats the whole reason I'm keeping my Gtab even though I got my Acer...I like to tinker with stuff and see what happens.
I was thinking about this myself the other day, but I've heard that XDA frowns on this behavior.

I actually have a slightly damaged but fully functional A500 that I would be willing to borrow out for a few months before I jave to sent it in for the insurance claim. I even posted the offer right up here with rather unenthusiastic replys.
If anyone knows a suitable candidate, my offer stands.

OMGB and OMFGB Roms

By now many of you guys have seen the twitter post by r2DoesInc that says he will soon be getting a Fascinate. I have been talking with r2 about getting the funds for him too get one for him and his team to dev on. I was originally gonna pay all $200 for a used one but since I'm still in high school and money is hard to come by I don't see that happening. That is where the rest of you come in. I have spoken with r2 again and he said if we all donated to him he would keep track of the money we give him and put it towards a used fascinate. I am gladly donating $100 to him so all we really need to raise is $100 I think it's a small price to pay for two high quality roms
*EDIT* Another Forum member by the name of Legato525, has offered r2 his fascinate for only $100 so the new goal in now only $100. R2 will be accepting donations until the 7th of June which is when Legato can ship the device. Any amount that is left to pay i will pay personally. Let's all team up to get r2 a Fascinate! *EDIT*
Talk to r2 and the rest of the team on irc.freenode.net #r2gb

Lol..Bad memories from Team Whiskey I presume?
Well there were several "devs" who wanted money before developing anything back from oct '10
Well for one, I didn't ask to be donated a fascinate, I was approached and asked, 'if we get you one will you work on it.' I've already been donated an Eris, I got omfgb and omgb on those fairly quickly.
And I'm not asking for money before I dev, I already officially support five devices. I'm not just some random guy
Anyways, if the money is raised for a fascinate, the phone will be used by me and t3hh4xx0r member LinuxMotion. He will spearhead the project as I focus more on adding new features and don't like to have all my time caught up in one project.
I'm here to help, no need to imply that I'm trying to scam anyone.

Well you can understand why some of use are reluctant. Many donated to Birdman because he wanted a Fascinate, then he got one, got everyone riled up when he said he got Gingerbread booting, then nothing. Months later, he still hasn't done a thing for us and ditched us for the Thunderbolt. Then the same happened with Team Whiskey. Asked for donations for a Fascinate, told us work had started, and then disappeared.
Well this is a hard platform. When I was first approached about getting a fascinate, I made sure to make no promises. I can't say for sure if ill be able to get the builds running or not, but I CAN promise that Linuxmotion and I will try our hardest.

As bobloblaw posted, it's at $150 now, still has over 3 hours til bidding ends. That last half hour is when the price really starts to go up. I bought a Fascinate on Ebay with a winning bid of $212.50 and it was at $125 with like 2 hours left until bidding closed. Most end up going for $250 that I have seen.
About 200 is what I've seen on swappa.

Waiting for root? Get involved!

I know there are a lot of anxious people out there like myself who are stuck without root and S-ON. I have been setting up my SDK and the kitchen over the last few weeks ( I have kids ). If you want to get involved, here is a quick reference to what I have found recently. What I miss most *now* about not having root is the ability to test my own ROMs on my own EVO.

I don't get all the fuss. Taking an OTA update loses root. No secret there. Were a bunch of people so interested in the official GB that they didn't want a day for a rooted rom?
There are those who lost root due to receiving replacement phones and there are those that are new to the evo and received their phone loaded with the update.

I totally agree. I know that fits my situation. My phone should be out on the truck for delivery today. Got my fingers and toes crossed it has an older build on it.
Regarding this post though. Very good idea and I really hope some people that can get this done chime in. Root is desperately needed back to the Evo.

Was wondering if any dev has tried to work this issue from the hardware side. Instead of using C++ or Visual or other languages, trying this thru Assembler language. I am a computer programmer but I have not done any work with HTC phones because of job, but I do have some ideas that I would love to share if anyone is interested.

I'm interested. Please feel free to post or PM me with your thoughts. But, I have to imagine the OS still maintains some degree of control (if it's even possible to compile and execute assembly programs in Android). I'm afraid there's probably a reason no one else has done that . Thanks!

Yeah, for me it will need to have more RAM and be quad core. There are new phones coming out that still don't have 1gb of RAM and are hanging around that 1.2 dual core. My ATRIX is already OCed to 1.45.

This is true BUT seeing all these devices get fully working ICS is making me somewhat regret my decision. Though I am positive that once full sources are released, we should get that soon.
But no denying that hardware wise, the Atrix is a monster and just as good as anything else on the market (especially now since Darkside just got full HDMI Mirroring as well as Webtop over HDMI).

Welcome to the land of Atrix Forums!
Where we all seem to hate each other one day, and like each other the next.
Lol, seriously though, I've been on the Atrix forums since day one of the Atrix release. I've never been a part of a community that was so....... temperamental.
Concerning WiFi Tether and Titanium backup --- those are all both pretty easy to get going... just refer to Swiftks N00B guide. He really did a great job with that thing. I find myself referring going back to it every once in a while.
Once you unlock bootloader ---- the Atrix becomes a whole different beast. You'll have so much to do, it's going to be nuts.
Great deal on a great phone. Buying at this time or receiving rather you didn't have to wait for development to take off like it has grats

So true. Also welcome and congrats on a great deal! Nothing better than saving money. I've had my Atrix since the second day of the release and I don't have much to complain about.

My work on the atrix was over the day we push the first stable cm7. Since them I've been working on Rom Factory (formerly Fruit Cake Maker), and today I'm working on fixing the cheesecake app for you guys. I am selling one of my atrix that's for sure. but i own 2 of them. so i def still have one and will continue to play with it. Once an ics official is available i will release a fruit cake for it and what not. but in my capacity as a dev, i will def not continue work on my ninja rom, and prob wont be very active on the forum.
Because of school and work I don't really have the time to explore and hack devices like I did a year back. Not too mention the increase cost of devices and being broke does not help me stay modern. My aging computer can't handle compiling much longer and my atrix, well, you saw the picture of my daily atrix, the screen is broken. I still continue work on an effort to boot webtop from cm7, which even tho i know better, i keep trying in hopes of coming up with a good workaround.
It's important as an user and dev to keep track of the milestones of a device. The Atrix was def a hard device to work with but as a community we have come far. Just to mention a few of the accomplishments of this community.
The atrix dev team (only here you will find 6+ devs willing to give up all their time to work together for the same goal)
International Bootloader Unlock (30+ people participated the night the unlock was discover, thats pretty amazing, and all of them are just as equally responsible for the unlock being found as steven25b or me.)
CM7 (may I mention one of the fastest put together cm7 ever, nearly 900 downloads in one day [im sure gs3 got more in one day but boo them])
Early Motorola Photon help. (they don't like to admit it, but we help the photon community massively. the2dcour even put a nice pudding together for them.)
My point is, as a dev, i know this community got it going right. I feel like i can help on other ways. And i def need a new challenge (phone) to keep me entertain. LOL beyond the fact that i need a new development phone, for app deving. Plus, if you miss me just drop me a line, I'm one friendly mofo, I'll answer and help, and if you are near me, let's go have a beer.
Sanford....Maine?
Sent my Atrix that is faster than most phones

Someone should buy your Atrix and put it in a museum.
And hopefully we can add one more cheesecake to that list of accomplishments.
Lol. Im no uber dev. Im just a guy who likes playing with phones. Now faux or turls ATRIX. Those really belong in museans.

When you fix this app, I will help the guys out with searching for the ICS update... I have my Atrix back to Stock just for this purpose alone. I have my SGS3 now, so I will sacrifice my Atrix in whatever way it takes to help put. I too want a Full-Time lapdock Tablet type device out of this Atrix eventually. Let me know when and Where I can help out. Thank you Sam for all your hard work.
Still working on it. Im changing the way it works. Phydo did a great job. But is not the best way to do it. For reliability purposes im pretty much redoing the app.

As in builds the kernel without having the phone to test it. I don't know if he did get one but I thought I read a post from him stating that months back.
