Broken LCD Screen - Help Wanted - Droid X General

My girlfriend has a broken LCD screen after a nasty drop. The glass isn't broken, but there are black spots appearing on the screen and it looks like the LCD is leaking(?) or something.
I want to replace the screen, but I'm not sure what part I need. I think this is what I need and I think this is the process.

Yes, this looks pretty straightforward, but I just wanted a 2nd opinion. Can someone confirm this for me? Also, has anyone had a similar experience and if so, did you replace the screen and/or do you have any tips?
Here is a picture of the screen.
Thanks for everyone and anyone's help!

The part you linked from Repairs Universe is indeed the part you need.
Also, be sure to buy the specific set of tools required for opening the Droid X
There are several videos out there to help you tear down the device and replace the LCD.
If you have any other questions don't be afraid to ask

questions about digitizer replacing

hi everyone, i know this may sound stupid but i need your suggestion and expertise. my digitizer suddenly stopped working, after exhausting all possible trouble shooting, i concur it might need replacement. my quesrions are; does it have to replace the lcd as well? or just the digitizer? im kinda worry that it would cost me to replace both. my lcd is ok just the digitizer. if i replace both, what will i do with the extra lcd? has anyone tried replacing just the digitizer? my hd is a t- mobil version. im worried that its like the htc diamond that you have to replace both, also is it complicatef like xda mini lcd that you have to look for a specific color? all your replies are highly appreciated. your expertise are needed. thank you.
your question has been answered before.
anyway to help you a bit: yes
the lcd is connected to the digitizer so when either breaks you have to replace both
You can seperate them, if you have the USA T-Mobile version it has the plug type non solder connector making things simpler. Seperating them should only be done if you feel compitent in handling the task ... A lot of care is needed to do a good job on HD2 repairs ...

TRUE, sugui you should just search for this a little bit!

FALSE, drmodify you should read as well and find out they can be detached: it's not easy, but totally feasible!
right thread
can anyone direct me to the thread or post regarding changing the digitizer. my internet connection is limited since im at work.. i might get screen shot..
thanks..
I had to have my digitizer replaced and they were able to do it without needing to replace the LCD as well. It came to right around $100 with the new part and labor.
BTW- I do have slight edge bleed now, and that was most likely my fault. Like others have stated, it's not an easy tear down and everything is really small, and fragile. Better to leave it to someone that knows what they are doing than doing a half arsed job yourself and mucking it up.

[Q] Just dropped my Nexus - can it be saved?

So...I just died a little inside...
What I've foolishly done is dropped my Nexus 7 screen side down onto floorboards and as you can see in the attached picture...something has gone awry. I'm assuming that it's the digitiser that's broken??? - is there anything I can (relatively) easily do with limited knowledge of this kind of stuff (via tutorials?)? Or would I be best replacing the device? When the screen is on, the individual bars change colour, cycling through purple, black, but mostly white. The tablet makes the unlocking sound and I can VERY faintly see some aspects of my home screen.
Any help would be appreciated. Rotten start to the new year.
Located in Melbourne, Australia, if that's of any use...
you could check out Tablet repair shops on Craiglist . They usually fix cell phones and tablets for 10 to 40 bucks. Its worth it.
if you are good with tools you could pop it open your self and see if any cables are messed up, give you a better idea on what you need to replace

I try to repair anything I can, Its usually cheaper and also a good chance to gain experience with this stuff. I cant tell you how many screens ive had to replace on my wifes Iphone haha. As far as tutorials go youtube has a whole bunch of them some are more thorough then others Heres a good one to get ya started. Nexus 7 Tear Down
Here is a written tutorial for removing the screen assembly. Between these two you should have no problems! Nexus 7 screen repair
If it still has warranty, you can copy everything you need off the SD card and get it replaced. You can try sending it to a repair shop, but it might be cheaper to buy a new one.
called asus and they told me that it'll cost $220 to replace the device as they won't repair it. I've copied everything over to my pc and I'll probably have a crack at giving it a tear down and fixing it. otherwise I think I'll upgrade to the 32gb as I've found 16gb to be too restrictive. annoying (for me) that there will be a new model in ~6 months time...

just completed the tear down - my battery took ages to remove due to an insane amount of glue (yay for asus build quality?). was interesting to go through the process, but, sadly, the issue with the digitiser persists. I'm going to do some shopping around and see how much I can get the 32gb model for in store, other wise I may even buy (a grey import) one from kogan.com.
Is the screen actually cracked? I could not make it out from the picture.....If not why could you not just get it sent back as faulty? If there is no physical damage how could they tell? But then again you have opened it now............... Good luck.

No cracks and I thought of this straight after tearing off the security stickers Thing is, two out of the three security stickers I was told to remove in the tear down tutorial were already missing. Also, there were several black (ink/oil?) smudge-y finger prints on the copper shielding when I opened it...hmmm
RIP Nexus 7......
replace!
quicker and cheaper...
repair would cost around 70-80% of a new nexus 7

[Q] u8800-51 touch screen bottom not responding

u8800-51 touch screen bottom not responding
hi all
i am new and ignorant
(love the xda rules vid)
just bought second hand at&t impulse 4g (u8800-51) , with the bottom half of the screen, not responding to touch.
the top half works
i was told that it happened when the device got dropped.
the picture is good.
got stuck in at&t logo boot loop, and erased back to original on the android rescue screen. and its booting again
tried to reassemble the screen , but no change.
will replacing the glass plus digitizer solve it?
is there a difference between u8800 and u8800-51 screen parts? (or any other hardware for that matter?)
thanks alot
Switching the touch screen (glass) will fix your problem.
In which side do you have the notification led on? Right or left of speaker?
If it is on the right, you probably have the smaller speaker system (that's good to know if you are buying with the frame).
There is no difference in the sockets, however I have seen all Impulse 4G have the Synaptics version (black flex cable), so it would be better if you'd buy that. Some of the eBay sellers are offering the official AT&T touch screen, with the logo on it, so that would be a safe place to buy from.
-EDIT-
Some more things to know:
When they are selling with a frame, you can see it on the picture and they usually mention that somewhere too. If you took the phone open, it's easy to tell if it's big or small by looking whether it looks like this (big speaker).

thank u so much
after a long study of the different pics of sellers, i remain a confused, because i finally found enough pics
(attached)
to realize that my model always have the black cable u mentioned which comes with a SMALL speaker, while the big speaker always come with the yellow cable, but alas, my device comes with a black cable, but big speaker,
so should i go with cable color + name mentioned (AT&T Impulse 4G) + AT&T logo, (which all calls for a Small speaker) OR , should i go with speaker size (big) ?
regarding my indicator position, it is to thr right when i look from the inner angle (like the photo of the big speaker that u added

That's the digitizer only. I don't think it's glass really, but it's easier to say it is.
I replaced mine by taking off the old digitizer from the frame. It came off pretty easily, it just needs some patience to take it apart without breaking it.
If you don't want to mess with glue, I'd suggest this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digitizer...356?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4abfc0011c
It's without the AT&T logo. I cannot guarantee it will fit though, there is always this chance Huawei modified something else between the U8800 and -51.

i prefer not to risk peeling, for breakage, and gluing, for moisture and mess.
i am starting to think that my digitizer was not original, and that is why it failed.
and feels like plastic. i found an original part at cellulardr.com for about 70$ vs. the 10-$15 ebay ones.
so maybe the seller put on impulse 4g, a big earpiece frame, with a yellow cable digitaizer. what a mess!
i attach a pic of big vs small earpieces. i believe the ''big'' is the one with golden terminals.
i think i will get a cheap ebay small earpiece frame with a black cable digitizer (like the original had, i believe) , with a 5$ small earpiece as extra.
god. why do i feel like Sherlock Holmes ?

This is only with glass.
You can buy a used one for under $70 or an OEM frame with glass. In my op, its not worth to fix.

i am sorry - what is not worth fixing ?
yes, i am going to buy a small earpiese frame with black cable plus a small earpiece,
but seeing my old digitizer, i am starting to think (because of the price difference from the original) that all these E-bay so called "glass" , 10-15$ , advertized digitizers ,are actually made of plastic ??
but i will not "invest in an expensive glass before i am happy with the new device.
so far i have not seen used original digitizers.
if i am happy with the device, i might start looking for a"for parts" u8800-51 deal on E-bay
thanks again

Yes, but $70 and you have a brand new one. Basically, fixing it is more trouble than selling it.

the cheapest new impulse 4g i could find cost 150$. i do get your point, but i already invested time and money on it and i can't sell a device that i am not sure of his condition. also its a little bit exciting for me if i manage to make it work.
is there any way to bypass the faulty touch screen ,for sake of testing the phone,
with some external device such as usb\Bluetooth mouse and keyboard ?

Weird Watermark on new LCD?

I replaced the LCD on this S5 recently and now a watermark is showing on the top and bottom. I'm guessing it's just an illegitimate part, but I thought it was worth asking if this could be software related?
Any input is appreciated obviously! Thanks.
Looks like something is burned on to your screen, google ways to fix that and see if it helps.

You have not brand new phone!!!!
It is some sort of demo unit in store. It was turned on for nobody knows how long time.
You should go to your seller and replace phone on brand new.
Your LCD is damaged.
Contact seller as seems that the screen you have been given has been powered on before on a particular screen.
What the guys said, but... the S5 hasn't got a LCD screen. It's AMOLED, which is way better

lg g2 screen replacement worth it?

My phone screen is damaged and from the official store the cost is 150 euro to replace the screen/frame/digitizer with a new one.I have followed a youtube video to disassembly my phone and now i am wandering.
Should i go and grab a new screen/digitizer/frame from ebay with 40 -50euro?Have anyone here tried it?
Work perfect for me.
*LG G2 D802 D805 Black Screen Touch Digitizer & LCD Display Replacement Part

I replace it 2 month ago by myself.
Remember that you must to use Film Protector Cover It may not gorilla glass.
Honestly after doing it several times due to defects with the screens I bought, I got to know my phone a lot more intimately than imagined.
The skills picked up along the way will go far.
Here's my thread detailing my experience with this.
One takeaway I can provide is:
Do as much research as you can up front. Be sure to be in contact with the seller you buy your screen from. Not all screens are the same

My seller was 6389team or something like that. Just make sure whichever screen you buy, ask them all the questions you need to know re: quality up front.
Also confirm they have the correct version before you buy.
Post your results in the thread and do the poll so we can keep track of your results as well
After doing over 5+ G2 screen replacements..........I vote a self-fix.
Its a relative easy phone to work on.........nothing is overly complicated in the layout of the frame and phone.
The only major thing...........is the type of sealant or double sided tape you use.
I used Loctite High Performance RTV silicone on my first few times (messy process, but can be less if diligent)
I used a spool of some cheap double sided tape on the last few replacements.
Both ways have there pros and cons..........but both got the job done for me
I would recommend researching the proper adhesive though...........I just used the RTV, because I work on car related things so much and had a full tube laying around from a speaker cone repair.
There not a lot of information on screen to frame adhesive......most discussion is about what UV adhesive to use if seperating LCD from Digitizer.
I ALWAYS say get the LCD Assembly (lcd glass/digitizer already fused complete to install)
Here is the video I used when I first started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqzgD490avg&index=2&list=LLd8QZ4c1aksnO69EHHC4_TA
After doing it a couple times.....its all by memory now.
My frame is also damaged so i want to buy an lcd/digitizer/frame combo like this onehttp://www.ebay.com/itm/Full-LCD-Display-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-For-LG-G2-D802-with-Frame-Black-/221316876560?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3387838910.

Not sure about this site.
Some folks on my LCD replacement vs OEM screen quality thread claim their screens without logo are identical copies to the original. I wouldn't rule them out completely without trying it.
Feel free to check out my thread. We've disclosed a number to reliable sources with good results so far
