Hello,
I want to know if anybody knows a way to install custom roms on a rooted Droid 2 (2.3.4) with the latest bootloader. I've been trying, but I'm facing an annoying little problem. In order to root my Droid 2 with the latest bootloader, I needed to used the patched 2.3.4 firmware. Whenever I try to install a custom rom through CWM, I get an error telling me that the installation has failed. It says right before the error that I need to make sure I have the OTA update and not the leaked version. I can't get the OTA though because I'll be unable to root that one.
So, does anyone know a work around for installing a custom rom on a non OTA firmware? Any tips, suggestion, apps, links....just anything would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
CJKurow
Update:
I found a solution that I felt was risky, but I took the chance and it worked

official cm7 is the only rom that has a kernel check
removing it is not that risky
edit: other gb roms should install fine

That is what I ended up doing, I updated the original post to help out anyone with the same problem.
I thought latest ota was rooted

yes a root method, was found
only one 2.3.4, that i know of 621
& cm7 is based on 2.3.3/ 4.5.601
that's why kernel doesn't match

Could anyone please tell me the correct SBF order to upgrade my DX from 2.3.15 to .595/6. maderstcok OTA will get me to 2.3.340 but what is after that?
Thanks for the help!
SBF to .340, then you will have to wait for the OTA update.
SBF to 340 and you can take the OTA or wait for TBH to release the rooted version
You can download the rooted version right now (12:30 PM, EDT) if you have the TBH app installed on your Droid X.

Thanks again for the help, that's what I needed to know. I'm about to download the TBH app right now.

I upgraded my wife's g2 to the official tmobile gingerbread release (used the pre rooted deodexed gingerbread rom) and need to return the phone to tmobile for an exchange. Before the upgrade to gingerbread I rooted and enabled permanent s-off.
1. Will I have any issues just flashing the stock tmobile 2.2 rom through clockwork recovery?
2. Once downgraded will I have to root again to go back and undo the permanent s-off
3. Is there a rooted stock rom available to flash? Want to be able to restore apps + settings while awaiting a replacement?
dig around the forums for an original PC10IMG.zip of the shipped rom and flash that through bootloader
Any issues using the rom in this thread. Looks like its a flashable .zip file.

Can I flash the above rom through the bootloader? Want to make sure I don't brick the phone before I do this.

Hi !
You can not downgrade at all because the install of an older PC10IMG.zip will give you a "main version too old" error.
Normally you solve this by using misc_version to change the main version string in the misc partition.
But to do this you need (temporary) root access.
All published temp-root methods (rage and it's derivatives like visionary, z4root, ... - psneuter - gingerbreak) have been patched in the official T-Mobile G2 Gingerbread release.
So enough background info for now - This firmware version is not rootable and can not be downgraded (for now).

Of course we will post and update if the situation changes
I have this gingerbread rom installed. Can anyone confirm that this version cannot be downgraded.
Flashable version of PC10IMG_Vision_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.13.531.8 Leak, that football posted, and yes this is the final release.
Rooted
Deodexed

Wait, you got a rooted version of it installed?
If yes, you can use misc_version to set the main version back to a lower or equal value of the rom you want to install and then install the PC10IMG.zip through hboot.

how i thought you need temproot for that
So I flashed the rooted gb rom above through clockwork. Will I brick my phone if I flash the stock rom I linked above through clockwork? Is it really this hard to go back to stock?
I think there is a lot of miscommunication going on here. I think the problem is that users are having a hard time differentiating between the unrootable leak and the rooted leak.
I'm having to send my g2 back also, I'm rooted, s-off'd, and using the rooted version of the tmob gb leak. ive got cwm installed too, should I be able to use the pc10img to completely wipe, set s-on and go back to 2.2?
I'm wondering if anyone has found out how to flash the new 2.3.6 update on a phone with an unlocked bootloader? I tried the OTA update before but just fails. I'm running stock 2.3.4 rooted and unlocked with CWM recovery.
Safest way is to flash 2.3.6 fruitcake found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009

Official 2.3.6-1.5.141.sbf alternative see here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1490283&page=4 read carefully and never use rsdlite/sbf to flash back to a lower firmware revision. Confirmed hard brick if you do.
Hopefully someone will make a fruitcake of the 1.5.141 build soon. I tried but Rom Factory/Fruitcake maker v1.6.1.9 doesn't work on my phone.

So I just download the 236 zip, put it on my SD card, and flash it with CWM?
EDIT: Well I tried that but nothing happened. After I flashed it, I rebooted the phone and it was still on 2.3.4. Not sure what went wrong.
Like penderway mentioned, the OP of the fruitcake thread doesn't have the latest Att version posted. Someone posted a link on the last few pages of the thread and its the one I used to update.
Not sure what went wrong on your first attempt but I've flashed both versions successfull. Make a backup to be safe.Good luck flashing

Ok, I managed to get everything working by following this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22648699&postcount=577
I just downloaded all 4 zip files, put them on my SD card, and flashed them one by one in CWM recovery. Everything seems to be working. Settings shows 2.3.6 as android version and 4.5.141 as build number.
What do we have to do before flashing official ICS?
In my case, I am with rooted 3.2.1.. can I update without risk? or I have to downgrade and install official (non-rooted) 3.2.1?
Also, I have deleted some stock apps, is there gonna be any problem with that?
Thanks.
Same question here , I have read in other post that if I have CWM installed there could be some problems with the update.
I'm running a rooted stock rom 3.2.1 too, So can anyone of you upload an ICS rooted stock rom to install it by CWM?
Thanks in advance!

I'm also a little confused. I just installed stock unrooted rom from acer recovery and tried to do the update but it failed. Any pointers?
Hi, I got an update (i think its 4.0.4) for my country and I couldn´t update it. I clicked on install but in recovery it was aborted. What is a reason?
I have clockworkmod + root. I tried some ROMs but i want to stay beside samsung fw.
Thx.
Hi.
I think you have to be on stock unrooted firmware with stock recovery, but i'm not sure.
OK, i have backup of stock rom, but how i can delete custom recovery?
What device do you have?

Then, the easiest way is to flash either RomsWell or Tab2Lite RC3. They are all stock JB ROMs
I would like to instal stock rom, is it possible to restore recovery? Now i have clockwork mod and because of it i cant update to 4.0.4 and then to 4.1.1.
Hi. I wondrer if you managed to fix your problem? I have the same situation and I'm looking for a way to fix it.

Use ODIN to flash OEM firmware. Lots of tutorial information on this site. Please search.
Cheers
I don't care about the stock ROM, I just want to get rid of the update notification. Is there a build prop edit that will do it? If so, could someone explain how? This is how it was done on my old Dinc, so if there is a simpler way, let me know. Thanks.

People need to be more clear , give more detail when you ask a question. You should not be getting update notices if you are not on the stock firmware. If you are on a custom ROM and still get notices, ask the OP developers of the ROM why.
Sorry, I am on stock firmware, rooted with CWM recovery. I rooted before I took the update. Now It nags me to update, but won't allow it. I will probably look for a stock 4.04 ROM, but was happy with it the way it is because it is for my 8 year old. I was in the same boat as the OP. Thanks.

Well, I have Root + CWM, I was wondering the same because I didn't want to try the update on my rooted P3113 to avoid any problem. Finally I decided to try it because the notification was getting me nuts. It downloaded the update, tried to install it and gave me an error message. Told me to try the installation manually with Kies and stopped appearing
