Reboots when banged - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry couldn't find info via google.
I've been having random reboots, but have discovered its when I put my phone down onto my desk or put it in my pocket. It seems to restart whenever it gets banged (even quite light taps)... Any idea what this could be and how to fix? Loose battery maybe?
Thanks in advance.

Yes sounds like a loose battery

put a piece of paper between battery and back cover

Thanks yeah. Lol, a bit of a business card on top of the battery seems to have solved it.

Wet vibrant

dropped it in the toilet. Took forever to get it up and running just to post this but its almost up to speed again. I was bootlooping like crazy over and over again hours after i pulled it out of its rice bath, which at least shows ots able tk power on. I held up and down on the bootloop until it popped into recovery, so i wiped everything-reinstalled trigger build 17-glitch-gapps. Now the color is completely effed up. Everything has etches of red in it. If i hit the power button to shut off the screen, it is completely snowed out when i turn it back on. I can live with these problems til i get a new phone. Wifi works but can u tell me if my antennae **** the bed because i have no service whatsoever now. No calls. No messages. No bars. Nothing. Can u guys help me out, or can wifi calling work if im supposed to have service and which rom it will work with, even if thats a possibility for me? Its a sad day for me guys.

Here's a simple tech tip. You throw it in a bag of uncooked rice for a day as soon as the problem happens and do NOT turn it on till it had time to pull the moisture. Then once you turn it on you store it in a Ziploc bag with silica in it.. for as long as you can.
I've fixed about 10 phones that way for friends. You turned it on, now you're screwed, but next time this would have certainly worked.

Tech tip: uncooked rice, then if your like me, take phone apart and drop certain pieces in the highest percent alcohol you can find ... if vodkas the highest you can find, youre not like me.

And if you're like ME.. vodka got you in trouble in the first place. I drunkenly spilled most of a mixed drink thru an iPhone 3g, Spilled an entire glass of wine on my MacBook keyboard.. and got drunk with a hammer and my last vibrant(that was the dumbest by far)
If it isn't water, like my rum+iPhone or wine+MacBook scenario then high alcohol wipes and a can of air(blow out tight items like Michael/speakers) are the best way to go.. only my vibrant didn't survive my abuse(hammers are VERY effective)

My n4 died while I was sleeping!

Yep, I woke up to a completely unresponsive nexus 4. Tried charging it and nothing happens. Also tried holding the power button, using the bootloader, but nothing will make this phone turn on.
Noticed just a little while ago that the lense for the camera and flash have collected moisture inside. Could running the phone on battery until it ran out of power create moisture in the phone?
Sounds kinda crazy, but it's the only thing I can think of. There is no other reason why the phone would have moisture on the inside. It wasn't raining, nothing in my apartment is wet, and neither is the outside of the phone.
Was using stock rooted with matrix 2.0 kernel.
Update:
The moisture inside dried out so I tried powering the phone on and again it did nothing. Then I plugged it in and the led indicator turned solid red.
I didn't know what that meant so I called tech support and that guy was even more clueless than I was. He hasn't even heard of the blinking red led that some people from this forum got after running antutu overclocked, but at least they can return to stock and relock the bootloader.
He said I could get it replaced, but idk if they're gonna give me grief over being unlocked and rooted.
Update 2:
Now the red led no longer lights up when charging. The phone powers on and everything functions except the screen. Even the buzzing from the ear speaker is there like it was when the screen functioned.
I powered it down now in hope that it will work later tonight.
Does anyone have an idea of what could have caused this?

Oh man sorry to hear and see that. Maybe something burnt out inside and the smoke couldn't escape causing condensation? I dunno, but hope it gets sorted out..

There is a similar problem with nexus 7 running android 4.2 .. What that required for correction was holding the power button for 30 or more seconds .. I repeat 30 or more seconds and not mere 5 or 10 seconds . that trick worked for me .. Just give it a try
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I already tried that. For now I think I'll have to just let it dry.
I would still like to know why only the inside of the phone has moisture and nothing else.

Thanks for the wishful thinking, but I don't know how I'm gonna get it replaced if I can't return to stock and lock the bootloader.

If it isn't even turning on that might not even be a problem how would they know if rooted
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
True. I say you put it in an airtight container with some dessicant and see if that helps the moisture. If not, give it a shot and send it back. Sorry to see that happened to a brand new phone.

I don't think so, it's just me and my girlfriend here and we were both sleeping. I don't think that would harm the phone either. Anyway, the outside of the phone was completely dry the whole time. No other areas are affected.
The phone I'm using now is an lg thrill and it's been through rain, snow, left outside and it still works. I don't understand why the n4 would do this just by sitting next to my bed.

Santa Claus came early
In all seriousness, did you take it in a moist room like your bathroom? Or outside on a rainy day?
what about the bag o' rice trick?
Humidifier running? Was it on the night stand maybe next to a cold drink that could've had some condensation? Was the room exceptionally cold (maybe that combined with the warmth of the phone caused the condensation?)?
Really weird. Hope you get it sorted. Chances are though, if it shut off because of the condensation, it probably burnt something out. Generally, if it's off and gets wet, you have a better chance of it surviving than when it gets wet and shuts off.
Could it be a battery leak?

Nope, it was dry in my pocket all day. I even got good battery life at
4hr screen on and ~14hr total. I left it unplugged next to my bed with nothing next to it to see how much longer it would last.

I just wrapped it up and set it above a warm heater. Seems to have worked good.

It was on the night stand, but nothing liquid was nearby. And my room is always at a constant temperature. Neve had any problems b4 with condensation.
It did have a low battery when I went to sleep and I left it to see what kind of battery drain it would have by morning. I thought only the battery was dead at first, but it's been on the charger now for about 15 min now with the solid red led.

No screen protector or case, just the bare phone.

It would be my guess too that the battery is leaking and just RMA it. As it doesn't power up they will never know you rooted it and they will most likely just trash it.
OP updated.
The phone powers on now and everything functions except the screen.

Small black dots on display

Hey people, this morning my phone fell off the bed,
After that,
My display has got small black dots like 20-30 and they all are at one place, please, any idea of getting rid of them ? Please help

Try that freezer method: take out all internal components like battery, sim, memory card, wrap in plastic bag and put in freezer. Keep for ~12 hours and take out device, waiting for any condensate to vaporise. It may get fixed by that

[Q] What happened to my power button?

I was using my phone like any other day, and then I locked my phone and later on went to wake the screen and it wouldn't wake up. I did a "battery pull" (power+volume down) and it rebooted fine. When it came back on, I tried to press the button to lock the screen but to no avail. I went on and got smart screen on and it works okay but I'd like to know if any of you know what's wrong with it. It feels fine, clicks like normal. I haven't dropped it recently or anything. But sometimes, when I barely touch the power button, the power menu opens. I don't really understand that but if any of you have any help for me, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Kinda sounds like a hardware issue maybe some pocket lint or something wiggled it's way in there... Take it apart and have a look..you would be surprised as to what can work it's way in there

Just suddenly began working the next day. I don't exactly know why... Maybe an app or something had it confused. I really don't know.
