Major Lag Opening Google Now/Search - Nexus S General

Before I begin the ROM is Jelly Belly 0.1.4 and kernel is VTA #50. I haven't updated in a long while cause this seems the fastest setup for me.
Whenever I open Google Now or search of any kind from any where, the app takes up to 15 seconds to open which considering that search and Now are normally for quick tasks, is very very annoying.
Anyone have any ideas?

Try updating, I am running latest cm10 with bedalus kernel and it's really fast, faster than I've had my phone ever before..

I would love to jump the bus over to MIUI again, but I always find something small that seems to prevent it... Google Now works on MIUI also? (Shows how far back I am on their updates)

I have jumped on to Thalmus kernel and so far so good, but as for the ROM I have to wait til I have Wi-Fi before I go and mess with that later tonight. Thanks for the help guys I think the Nexus S community is my favourite people and support wise

This sped up my search:
Open Google Now -> Hit settings -> Click Phone Search -> Uncheck Apps
It's still not instantaneous but it will only take a second to open Voice Search/Google Now

Nice suggestion!
Apparently that makes a big difference

I'm exactly in the same boat.
Running latest CM10 nightly + latest AirKernel, and GoogleNow/Search is a complete disaster. The screen goes white for a good 10-15 seconds and lags like hell.
Any ideas?

Guys i upgraded my nexus s i9023 to JB and i can't open google now screen, if i touch search button only open search no google now. Same thing if i swype up from lock screen just search no google now is it absolutely clear no root, any idea ?

it was needed change local language to english and after that phone search asked me if i would like to tun on google now good i'm happy now

For me it depends on the available RAM that I have. If I have >100MB free in Manage Apps->Running, then Google Now starts fast, Chrome too!

CM7 performance expectations vs actual results

So I installed CM7 this afternoon, and and was expecting moderate results so far as perfomance goes. I'll need to go through a whole work day to see how battery life is.
But..... I ran quadrant (I know not always exact), and and the results were surprising. Tests are landing between 3400 and 3600. I never saw north of 2200-2400 before.
What's everyone seeing with the xda CM7 latest version?

Turning the transitions in Spare Parts to "fast" makes the phone seem brand new! Everything is blazing fast! 1 thing i'm curious about is how laggy the lockscreen can be, either stock or widgetlocker. It seems i have to pull the slider halfway and leave it to slide back, to make the 2nd slide to unlock smooth. Strange.

I would strongly recommend Go Launcher(free from the market) its very smooth and has MANY transitions animations that are very pleasing to the eye. App drawer seems to have zero lag with animations set to random. And I'm almost sure random uses the most resources. Or try another launcher.

try installing the google apps package through rom manager.
if you dont have rom manager (which you should - i think its standard on cm7)
find rom manager.apk if you can't find it and push it to your sd card install rom manager, then google apps, then a new keyboard thru market.

Go to Settings > CyanogenMod > Performance > tap "Ok" > Use 16bit Transparency

I've been using CM7 stable for about a week. I really like it, although I've just tried using it as a mass storage device and I'm not able to access my EXT or INT flash memory. After disconnecting from the USB, it will freeze my phones screen and I will have to do a hard reboot by pulling the battery to fix it. Anything I can do to fix this?

been using CM7 since original beta, and have never had this problem. i would suggest doing a complete wipe with Fastboot and then reinstalling CM7 to see if the problem persists, if it does then get a logcat and report it to the Atrix Dev Team.

[Q] Whats the most stable CM Rom for Nexus 7 (and does it fix wifi issues)

Basically as the title says, i don't want to go bricking my Nexus 7 so i am wondering what the most stable CM nightly release is at the moment.
Also i have a problem with my wifi where it constantly gets random disconnects for a few seconds, can't even leave an irc client running overnight without waking up in the morning and it's disconnected, yet my phone can do it fine. Just wondering if any CM roms improve the wifi stability
Go into settings tap where it says WiFi (yes you can tap it) it will bring you into the menu of all the visible networks around you. Tap the menu button and go into advanced. Find where it says Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep. Make sure it says "Always"
And just about every CM10 ROM is stable. I would personally recommend Team EOS as it is Stock android built with very minor tweaks that they build themselves not cherry picks (i dont think anyways). Its as stable as it gets with similar customizations. And there isnt a bunch only the useful ones.

MIUI have lost the plot, although i was glad to see them move from CM to sammy but it hasnt been well implemented. CM is great for older phones but I dont see the point of using it on a new phone when nothing works properly.

Hmmm I've only encountered a couple of minor what you would term "instabilities"...
The Root permissions freeze up when you open an app requiring root, however you can work around this by going back to home opening the permissions app and then manually give the app root privelages.
Only other thing was I needed to download play store via the MIUI store.
MIUI V4 is awesome.

Lets hope miui jumps straight to 4.1.2 on the next beta test so we can have all the new features too.
This rom seems quite useable indeed, it is very smooth, very good for a beta, if this is the shape of things to come we could have a winner here. Pretty much everything seems to work one you get around the small permissions bug. Video player and cam performance all ok too. Let hope someone builds a decent ROM with this with all the usual mods + the latest 4.1.2 stuff.
I used Google translate to convert the Chinese beta testing page to English and i see there have been updates already. Unfortunately the beta is closed.... We need someone to give us a sneaky link to the newer versions.. Im too impatient hehe.

bring on the links people, i cant find any myself. Anyone else found any more bugs?
ROM does seem to have one of the usual problems I always find with MIUI, downloads hang on play, intermittent and seeming random with non wifi downloads.
FOR THOSE WISHING TO TRY THIS ROM.
bugs / isues so far:
- permissions crash, you have to set app manually.
- stock browser seems to be locked to chineese search.
- Heavilly stripped down, all samsung stuff removed.
- Had several phone freezes where rotation is enabled.
- No english play store installed, can be downloaded.
- No gapps.
- doesnt seem to play youtube videos from youtube app, probablly some region issues (plays them ok in browser)
General Useage:
- Video and camera work well.
- Phone / wifi / 3g GPS all working
- Supports latest Note 2 cam and gallery
- Themes seem to work fine.
- UI seems very smooth
- Seems generally very stable if rotation is disabled.
