You mean TB restores your widgets on your home screen??? It never does for me. I have a customized weather widget and a customized power control widgent. After I flashed a new rom and used TB to restore things, these two widgets were always missing....

I'm pretty sure that titanium backup cannot restore active widgets. On any device.
As for android development vs original , i'm not sure

Any idea of how to backup those widgets?
I want to know the answer to the first question too!

The people who have threads in the Original Android area are the creators of said ROMS and Kernels. Posts made in the Android Development area can be variants of those posted in the Original area.
Original development is the 'innovative' ROMs and kernels, the adroid development is for ROMs based on other ROMs (usually) or just a few many pulls with AOSP source

Thanks for describing the difference between the two development sections - been wondering that myself! Couldn't find a post describing the difference anywhere (may have missed it though) - I would have thought that there would have been a sticky about that in each of the development sections...

Thanks for the explanation. I had the same understanding in the beginning. But, then I was confused by the the word "innovative". I thought only Google can make such changes, ie, an innovative Android means its version goes from 4.1 to 4.2?

I'm pretty sure innovative is being used subjectively and just means ROMS that are substantially different from those around it. A good example is Paranoid Android which uses a phone / tablet hybrid layout that is pretty 'innovative' comparatively.

Innovative is just new ideas like Paranoid Androids DPI Per app stuff, or ROMS that have features no other ROMS dont

I apologize if this issue has been addressed, I did some searching but didn't find an answer.
So call me crazy, but I like Titanium better than Sense. No, its not as flashy, but I do like the look (maybe because I'm so used to my ZuneHD) and its a lot more efficient at getting you data.
I know you can very easily switch between the two, but what is keeping me with Sense is the other HTC apps that come with it. I'm not entirely happy about losing the HTC contacts, calendar, twitter, that fun stuff.
So I guess my question is, is it doable to access those apps from Titanium? Are there any ROMs out there that configure this for me?
Thanks

There should be shortcuts in the Start menu for those apps, can these not be used in Titanium? (I've not used Titanium myself yet)

Believe it or not, no....those items actually disappear from the start menu when you turn off Sense. The only one that remains is the messaging app.
At least I know I am not the only crazy one who prefers Titanium, but unfortunately you cannot access the calendar etc without having Sense turned on, they are all part of that app, the only exceptions are as you have found things like the Messaging app which is a standalone program and replacement for the windows mobile version.
D'oh, thanks HTC. 6.5.3 improves on the stock apps, right? Maybe once we get HardSPL for the US T-Mobile version, that will be sufficient...
I've had some problems getting HTC apps working in cm6 latest nightly.
I get my apks from DC froyo.
First I tried an easy install which failed.
Then I moved it to the system/app folder and chmod and chowned to make sure the permissions and owners were the same as stock.
Right now the HTC internet browser opens but force closes.
How can I get it working?
Aren't the HTC apps tied to the Sense framework? If so, I don't think it'll be possible to get them working on a non-sense ROM.
I could be completely wrong.

No you are not completely wrong. You are completely correct. Sense is deeply integrated into Android. It's not like there are just some added libraries. The source code that compiles into the framework.jar and framework-res.apk, etc are directly modified by HTC. This means Sense is no mere skin. It is a complete integration into Android. Regardless, without this framework HTC apps will only run on Sense phones. Some can be ported over but it's a difficult process so most likely the apps you want will not be ported over. Out of curiosity though, which apps are you trying to use on CM6?
If you want Sense, go back to Sense.

Use DC.
Can't use HTC apps without Sense. Please check the FAQ in the future.
if you provide the applications you're trying to run, perhaps alternatives can be suggested for you.
I personally like the HTC Tip Calulator widget....
and the HTC Notes....
But you can't use them on adw.
I don't want an app shortcut, I want a widget.
I prefer AOSP thankyou very much.
I just like the option of having some apps that I got used to.
HTC_ime for example. The keyboard.
Even though I use swype.
The camera app which pwns the stock.
Got flashlight and car panel working.
FM radio and weather would be nice too.
There were some nice Widgets but the only one I miss is the clock.
Any porting tips?

i liked the HTC keyboard as well. I'm assuming that you did your due diligence and found this did not work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7429254#post7429254
4G and FM Radio is not working in CM6 yet.
this is listed in the CM6 OP.
i'm not sure what HTC browser your talking about. perhaps try installing Dolphin HD browser.
last nights CM6 build incorporated a new camera app and deathray (er...Flashlight app w/ widget). just get the nightly build and flash over what you have...i wipe 'cache' and 'dalvik cache' ...you loose no settings.
i use 'MyWeather' but then, i don't care for weather widgets. have you even looked on the android market for this? maybe try browsing from a computer on a site like www.appbrain.com
i use digital clock widget to provide my time date...many folks praise Beautiful Widgets.

tips...
- everyone once in a while...copy a nand backup onto your pc (ie: what if you SD card gets lost or borked?)
- read the entire forum for the ROM you're playing with
- use the search function liberally. (both on xda and google)

Thanks for your post, but.
This isn't about anything specific, i simply want to know how to get apps ported, without the java source.
That said, I AM using dolphin, but I prefer the copy-paste that I can only find with HTC sense, I was hoping the browser on stock sense would help.
I've come across that thread, and use Swype without much issue, but having no trackball () makes me wish I had some arrow keys.. Not available in that thread.
Since my OP I have customized ADW and i'm quite pleased with it overall.
Now I just want to be able to use any app I wish. Regardless of alternatives!
Beautiful widgets is good, but has no analog clocks last I checked.
I do use it either way, but again, this isn't about anything specific.
I want to unlock apk's so they work anywhere. Any rom. Not just with HTC apps, but even the touchwiz apps!
Don't care about 4G, and i know that there are bugs being worked out with CM6 but i'm following it closely. On the 8/11 nightly build right now.
Finally, I read too much. I know a lot more than I put on..
Been "playing" with android roms since Dream (especially CM).
The problem which I have won't be solved by simply looking around for a version of the APK that works.
I want to know how they are being ported/unlocked .
If you can help, then thankyou very much!
Otherwise, I don't need your irrelevant tips. (No offense intended)

Hello Everyone,
Im using HTC Desire with AuraxTsense 8.1.1 and ive seen a few roms with the core android contacts app. I tried using mybackup pro to back this app up and install it but it says "application not installed". Do i need to download a .zip and use recovery to install this? where could i get those files from either an .apk or a .zip.
Thanks for any help guys.
i believe the contacts is two apks contacts and contactsprovider. And you cannot get them into a sense rom by merely installing it, theres some wierd issue with it if u try to replace the senseui's contacts with it...
I know what you mean with wanting this, but if you're willing, try a different rom to see what you like at the same time? Something AOSP built. If you search there are ways to adb push the stock contact app which is what you want, but that includes the dialer which you also need if you want the contacts.
If you're willing to experiment, try a different rom. I was on AuraxTSense 8.1.1 also, but the battery drain was totally annoying. So I went to Oxygen and I haven't looked back (and has the contact app which you want). Done 18 hours on my phone today with relatively standard usage and, went down to 32%, amazing tbh.

You can try to flash the "Android_Contacts.zip" file that is found on the mini-site I built for LeeDrOiD's ROMs. I have done so in the past (flashed through recovery) and both the HTC People AND stock Android Contacts seem to co-exist in perfect harmony It simply asks you which you'd like to launch when tapping the "Phone" button for example.
Of course it would be wise to perform a Nandroid backup first just for safety's sake!
Sense should allow all that harmonies in AOSP rom too. why dont they~~
Thanks for all the replys. im gona go try that website now!! ill post how i get on.
ok tried that but just got a load of force close messages before i could even start up the app. is there any .apk on the marketplace that would do this, or even a similar app. I know you can get it on sense cause i had it on one of the sense roms that i use. I just like AuraxTsense because of the power control in the notification area.
well actually i dont understand why do you want the android dialer? Sense dialer is what people want. Well at least i want it it, want it so much but sad it cant be used on AOSP roms.
Cause i love having to click a phone app and having my dialer/contacts/recent calls all in one app and just tabbed on the top. I dont care if its the android dialer but this is the best one ive seen laid out for what i want. Is it possible to get the samsung one or a similar app?
Ricochet I totally agree on that. The standard Android dialer app is way more functional and looks nicer too IMHO. Only thing missing is T9 search. I used Dialer One from the market when I wasnt rooted, however found it to be less snappy then a standard app.

I tried that and it somewhat worked. The dialer comes up but the contacts aren't there. The favorites and call logs are populated though. I'm using an HD rom though so I'm not sure it's the same (RCmixHD)
Tust found "TouchPal Smart Dialer" in the market. The main screen is a mix of HTC with Android Contacts tabs at the top. Gonna try this out to test functionality, but the layout is awesome!
Thanks man, that app is exactly what i wanted.
The rom hasn't made any difference with this issue, but for the sake of information, I'm currently running GalaxyTask 14 full with ADW ex launcher. I love this launcher, but every time I restore with titanium after changing roms, all of my widgets break. I have to delete all of them off the screen and then re-add them. Is there some type of fix for this issue?

Mmmm...It's always been like this for me both on my phone and tablet. I'd feel like an idiot if someone posted here saying that there is indeed a way to restore widgets properly because I've been using ADW for a loooong time. O.O
Ive never tried it since I like to re install everything clean, try using the backup and restore settings in ADW, backup ADW settings and backup desktop configuration, they get saved to the SD card though so make sure you have a copy on your puter or on your external SD
When you make a backup to adw settings you get a message which says "due to android limitations it is not possible to save Widgets" or something... so there is not a solution. Been using adw since 2.1, but never used it on the tab though...

And there goes my suggestion
One thing that annoyed me deeply under Gingerbread was the fact that I would carefully arrange my apps icons along the apps pages, as I needed them to be, only to find out, a couple of days later, that the system "rearranged" some of them by its own will.
I struggled with this a bit and then just gave up thinking that the move to Honeycomb would solve the problem.
It didn't!...I am having the exact same problem with this new 7.7
Is there a solution to this?
It is kind of critical that icons stay where we want them to when their number starts to proliferate...This is exactly the kind of thing that can give Android a bad name, in what respects to user-friendliness......I don't think iOs suffers from a shortcoming as basic as this one...

Are you using a different launcher or still TouchWiz? If you aren't try any of the better known launchers (i'm using Go Launcher HD).

I am staying with TW until ICS comes around...I intend to change it afterwards.
Am I to understand that this specific problem is "launcher-dependent" ?
Thanks!
XK
In my experience, the icon self-rearrangement happened when I go to the "My apps" or "Frequent" pages. In other words, as long as I remain in the "All" page, the icons seem to stay without this self-arrangement.
I use a program called appzorter for this. It works well in keeping the TW launcher and my sanity.

From what i've noticed. The app drawer is part of the launcher, so it would reason why I haven't seen it happen in the other launchers i've tried (I also noticed this in TouchWiz with the Tab 7 Plus I tried before going to the 7.7).
If you are willing to switch to a different launcher after ICS, I strongly suggest you try before hand. If nothing else, it doesn't hurt to try, they can be easily removed.

No, it seems to work ok, under HC...
It sorts out the apps in alphabetical order and further allows to group them into separate "System" and "Installed" groups, if wanted.
For the moment, it will do...
(Thanks Robroy90!)

There came a point for me where the app drawer was not useful due to all my apps. Instead I use folder organizer and put my apps in specific folders.
Originally i put those folders on my desktop/docks but realized they were redundant after i added them to a SwipePad panel.
Now my desktops and docks are less cluttered and i only need to swipe in from the side of the screen to get instant access to my apps organized in those folders. I ignore my drawer now.
