First of all, what is up with that stupid pan box that covers half your writing area if you are in split screen? I mean seriously how did that crap make it out the front door? Instead how about something brand new like a "scroll bar" that takes up no room at all? I know its crazy but the fact word processors and browsers have used them for years might have tipped someone off that they actually work?
So instead of the proven and unobtrusive scroll bar we get a HUGE pan box right in the middle of everything? Tragic stupidity.
Also, even when I have the page set to pen only input the page keeps zooming in and out everytime I rest my palm on the screen to write. Again, why Samsung why? Do you focus test anything before you release it? With the Note you have now had a year to get this app right and it is still so incredibly broken? Fire everyone and hire some developers who have a clue about usability.
Also, would it KILL you to give me an option for a white piece of lined paper to write on instead of that weird brown color? No we get no white lined paper by we do get about 10 lined options that are nothing like anything I have ever seen in the real world. I mean what IS some of that stuff?
How about letting us design our own templates and choose our own input boxes? How about letting me use a picture from my gallery as a background?
Choices Samsung. Users want choices and you give us none.

One can only hope. But I am coming from the HTC View where they made many insanely stupid choices with their notes app that never got fixed so I am somewhat jaded at this point.

I agree this is also annoying. What I found helps is that I set the option to see the crosshairs on the screen when the pen is close, so I know when palm rejection will kick in. Remember, palm rejection only kicks in when the pen is close to the screen, even in pen-only mode (which I agree defeats the purpose of that mode altogether).

I agree with this as well, I was very confused at the lack of options. I can't even set it to legal size.
One thing that you didn't mention that drives me crazy, is the inability to change the name/title of the note while you are in it. You can see the name in the upper left, but you can't long press on it (or click it) to edit. That minor change would be VERY welcome to me.
The "LectureNotes" app is much better than the s-notes app. It works great. It does not have handwriting recognition, but I don't find it that useful in s-notes. What I would like is to OCR the whole thing once I was done taking notes. Anyway, there's a free trial version of LectureNotes available. Give it a try in the Play Store. You can adjust paper color, etc, etc.

Unless you're panning, why do you need to be in overview mode? You can stay in writing mode and just move the work area around if you need to by pressing two fingers on it. Or am I missing something?

Love LN, and if you need vector graphics there's always Quill, though I've heard others are closing fast. I use 7notes with mazec for the HWR.
I'm kind of using what you guys say is broken as a way of exploring what the Note can (and can't) do. You can basically set any background you want on a note you're creating with seperate designs for the cover and pages within. To get white lined paper, all I did was scan a piece at 600DPI and save it as a JPEG. In settings on the S-Note home page there's an "import" button. I imported the JPEG and presto, lined white paper. It's a pretty cool feature for company letter head, watermarks, and other stuff you might want to use. Granted we should be able to create our own templates but it's a work-around for the time being.
Here's a link to the JPEG on Dropbox if you want to play with it yourselves. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73155531/Scan_Pic0002.jpg
OK as long as we are in full piss and moan mode here, how about if you are using the keyboard and you minimize it. You can't open it again without clicking back to the pen icon and then the keyboard icon again. If you click the keyboard icon when you are already in typing mode it shows you formatting options but the keyboard doesn't reappear.
I would really rather stay with the snotes app if possible than using LectureNotes because it has more functions and i can type.

The stuff you're pointing out is absolutely stuff that's helpful. This is my fourth Samsung device so I've gotten pretty good at thinking like a Korean s/w developer. In a lot of cases there's a way of doing what you want you just have to go through the gymnastics to figure out the Korean interpretation.

OK, so I'm in text mode and minimize the keyboard. To get it back I just have to touch the screen anywhere and it reappears. If go to drawing mode, make some squiggles with the pen, and then click the keyboard icon it comes up by itself. EXCEPT: If I've got the pen-only icon active.
After a few months you'll be thinking like a Korean s/w developer too.
your relationship with this tablet is a freaking drama, lol.
I still have the old 0.1 version of S Note in Titanium backup but it does not run (perhaps I would have to delete the write protected version in /system/app first.

In full screen mode not window you can change the background via the drop down menu. When you have the change background window open there is a mountain icon in the top right corner which will open gallery and allow you to set your own background.
I was going to show an example but for some reason when I select Choose File in ther reply software nothing happens it just highlights and the Note 10.1 beeps and that is all.
Ah OK I see. My problem was I had the "pen only" button depressed and thats why the keyboard would not pop up when I touched the screen.
I still cannot figure out what good purpose that panning box serves since we can pan with two fingers???
Lol on the Koreans. Is there a Joe's American Tablet Company somewhere?
Now if someone could just make my handwriting not suck I'd be set.

Who, me or mitchellvii? I'm having a blast figuring out what it can and can't do. The level of detail Samsung's applied to s/w is freaking amazing. And, as usual, it’s cryptic and explained nowhere. It’s fun deciphering Samsung's cryptic code to find all the features. It's kind of like putting together a 1K piece all-white puzzle.

The mountain icon is for things to stick in a note, not set the background. The maps one is really cool. You can use it just like Google maps but within S-Note for cropping and editing.

I fear the scroll bar is NOT coming back. Apple has a patent for transparent disappearing vertical and horizontal scroll bars.
Yea, I know it sounds stupid to allow patent for such issues. It got approved last month.

EDIT: I have updated this post with features/discoveries to date - 01/08/2011
Hey guys,
i've just arrived off the HTC boat and i'm lovin' the world of the Galaxy S2... what a phone!!
anyways, thought i'd make a thread on features as they get discovered as i tend to find that a lot go undocumented, and as i'm not a user of a previous version of Touchwiz, i'm not sure whether some of these are new or not, but maybe of interest to someone else like me...
Dickie
Mentioned so far - 01/08/2011
Dragging left on a contact sends them an SMS, and right calls them. This works in all the contacts list, messaging, call log etc...
You can pinch-zoom the app drawer and move panes as per the home screens
Home + Power buttons = screenshot
With manual brightness set, hold your finger down on the notification bar after a few seconds it becomes a brightness scroll. You just move your finger left/right on the notification bar to decrease/increase the brightness
In the address bar type in "about:debug", hit the go button. It won't do anything, or so it seems. Hit the menu contextual key and pull up the options. Go all the way to the bottom
In the address bar type in "about:useragent" to change user agent
An easter egg you didn't know about(it's from Google), if you go to preferences and about phone and click three times on Android Version you get an art
Pinch on browser whilst zoomed right out takes you to Tab/Window overview
Customise shortcuts in the Camera app. Just click 'Menu' and 'Edit' or hold the 'Cog' icon and you can drag the shortcuts you want to appear on the left of the screen
The dots that represent the home screens/app screens can be tapped to take you directly to the relevant screen, or held to reveal a slider for super fast scrolling
You can Pinch to zoom in the camera app
If you pinch to zoom in the stock e-mail mailbox it compresses all the mail by date. When you press on a compressed date, it expands the mail for that date only
You can smart dial in the phone app by typing a contacts name, if its not the correct contact displayed, click it to reveal all possible contacts, then select to call
Hold the power button for approx 5secs for an immediate shutdown
Use 2 fingers to scroll on a list to get an immediate stop upon release, use 3 to get a fast scroll that will continue to the end
Drag left and right on the video player to control FF and RW
Pinch the calender app to view by year, then swipe to change
holding on a letter on the right side of the contacts list & dragging to the left (without lifting your finger) will bring up another alphabet list & do a sub-contextual search under that letter of available options like 'AA', 'AB', 'AC'...'AZ'
didnt know the app drawer could be pinched zoomed : ) that sounds cool.
the swyping contact to call or message was there in the original G S as well though.
cool, thanks for letting me know!!
the pinched view of the app drawer, with my current 6 panes, are very large, requiring scrolling down to see them. theres only enough room for the first 4 (2 per row) and 2 halves before scrolling... if that makes any sense lmao...
Dickie
This is a big one: apparently Home + Power buttons = screenshot... I just heard about it. I live in America so haven't used it.

I don't know if they left this feature in, but in the original SGS if you hold your finger down on the notification bar after a few seconds it becomes a brightness scroll. You just move your finger left/right on the notification bar to decrease/increase the brightness. I think it only works if you enable/disable auto-brightness. Someone will have to verify of course

Can you also see if the browser trick still works?
In the address bar type in "about:debug", hit the go button. It won't do anything, or so it seems. Hit the menu contextual key and pull up the options. Go all the way to the bottom and see if it will let you change user agent strings now

Sweet! Let's hope you guys find some neat tricks!
As for the ones mentioned:
- The sliding on the logs/contact list was already present in the predecessor (slide to the right to call, and to the left to message)
- Helicopter view/Pinch-zoom on the App Drawer was enabled in TouchWiz after the official Froyo update on the Galaxy S (International version)
- Screenshots were also enabled on the previous GS(International version) after the Froyo update, but there you had to hold the Back softkey for a second, then press the Home button.
Let's keep hoping for new things!
On a side note, could you try and let me know about this please:
While editing text, does it pop a magnifying glass to help easily position the cursor, similar to the iPhone's iOS and I believe HTC Sense as well?
Thanks!
Thanks for the screenshot trick. I was thinking it was the same combination as the original Galaxy, never thought to try other combos!
Now I can uninstall the shortcut app I downloaded

No, but there is a little tab that appears just below the cursor, which you can drag so your finger doesn't cover the text you are trying to look at. It works well.

I thought I'd start this thread to consolidate all the info on the features of the Note 10.1 for those new to Android or tablets, those who are on the fence about buying this, or those who just haven't figured out all the cool features yet

Had no idea of the swipe style option available on the keyboard...
Here's a video of tips and tricks I've just whipped up. -> http://youtu.be/tC7z5PCdGLE
This is what I've discovered so far: smart stay, motion gestures, keyboard layouts (displayed by OP), handwriting input, nav keys extra functions, S Pen button, mini apps, screenshot key alternate uses and a demonstration of power, four apps running at the same time all of them shown on the screen at once!
Seems the more I learn about this tablet the more I like it. I had removed all of the Sammyware, but now I've out a few things back. Great thread.

For a keyboard to pop up it needs to have an input field. it will be useless if you pop it up without anything listening to the keyboard.

Well I have this situation where I need to press F12 to change to another page, but no input field in the page by itself. I tried clicking on the address bar to open the keyboard, but since the focus is not at the right place, it's not working. So I have a situation where it is NOT useless.

I'm curious as well. I hate lock screens, they don't seem to have any use to me, especially on a tablet. This thing can't turn on in my pocket, I don't wear clown pants(assuming clown pants have giant clown pockets). I just installed the "No Lock" app which does the trick.

"None" should be the very last option in the screen lock page.
Nice. Thanks. Yup, seems I need wipers for my contacts.
Here we go in German settings (see attachment)
Why I need the keyboard to be opened even if there is no "call it to screen" input field:
I use "logmein" now for a couple of years for only one reason: to check my patients data base in my clinic.
Once I'm logged in and the remote screen appears I can click the icons to start the program but once I want to type a name ton the remote PC he keyboard does not appear.
Of course there would be other solutions, but I tried Splashtop Remote and other similar apps which do not work since my provider protects my clinic from outside intrusion by a firewall and even after my provider opened the ports necessary to run Splashtop Remote it does not work. After testing a lot of apps in the last two years with my SGSII/III and Note LOGMEIN is the only procedure that works. Of course I could buy the Android app Logmein ignition but look at the rating of this app, the prize and comments that it works very poor if at all. And why should I buy an app when my magnificent Note10.1 can do the same with it's browser ?IF I COULD FORCE THE KEYBOARD TO APPEAR ON THE SCREEN TO TYPE ON MY REMOTE PC !!!!!!!!
Quick heads-up. This is definitely not supposed to be a release candidate. There are a lot of times when apps crash, you can't change lock-screen background due to system crashes etc etc.
I know there are plenty of other topics all about this OTA. Here I present to you, a feature summary.
Please keep in mind that this most likely IS NOT the final 4.1.1 release that Samsung will put out.
Nevertheless, I hope you guys like it!
Feature-list:
S Note upgrades
S Note Widget
Improved calendar colours
Blocking mode
Text-message backgrounds
new multi-tasking features
Screenshot improvements
Improved text selection
S Note
Ah.. The note taking app from Samsung. I think this app was already pretty decent in 4.0.4, so let's see what some of the changes are.
The first thing that you should notice is that Samsung added a scrolling bar on the side. Sweet! Navigation through the standard navigation icon is still available.
When you active the Pen Only mode, the screen still responds to touch for navigation purposes. Touching the scrollbar to scroll works fine.
Want to know what also works fine? Pinch zooming! And boy oh boy, with this update, you WILL be pinch zooming with your palm while using the S Pen. Hate it..
This pretty much beats the purpose of the pen-only mode for me. Great I can't write with my finger any more.. but my palm keeps zooming in etc. It can't be that bad I hear you say? Well, it wouldn't be if it happened once every 15 minutes or so.. but I get it SO FREQUENTLY.. it annoys the hell out of me.
(Lucky for me, I'm getting a Smudge Guard (sort of a Wacom Cintiq 'glove') which will allow my palm to rest on the screen without any hassle. Was already getting it for drawing purposes )
Something that bothers me a bit, is the fact that with the update, landscape mode is zoomed in past 100% making the text and background blurry by default. Rotating your device to portrait mode ofcourse 'fixes' this, but I like working with my tab in landscape mode. On top of this, it is annoying to manually zoom to 100% because there is NO snapping. Leaving you twitching somewhere between 94~106%.
I don't have OCD, but man o man would I like this baby to snap to 100%
Folder lay-out
I wanted to add this quick tip in here. This was already a feature in 4.0.4 but I don't think many people know of it. You can adjust the width of the 'folder-bar' by selecting the dividing line and dragging it to the left or right. Dragging it all the way to the left, hides the folder lay-out.
Portrait page, covers and backgrounds
First off, you get to choose a new page preset named Landscape note.
Also, some new covers and backgrounds are present in this update. Nothing too fancy, but I think that the music sheet is pretty sweet for those who know how to use it.
New S Note widget
I'm pretty sure that this wasn't included in 4.0.4. Correct me if I'm wrong
New sync options?
Nope! The sync options are still limited to Google Drive and Evernote. No dropbox yet..
Settings
I don't believe anything has changed here, but a screenshot anyway
A nice new 'feature' is the fact that the colours in the agenda have been updated. They are brighter than before and reflect the colours I use in my Google Calender better! Yay!
Blocking mode
In the settings tab you can find an interesting new feature called blocking mode. Allowing you to block notifications, incoming calls etc. It's like an upgraded 'Airplane mode' with nice features like time settings and white-listing contacts.
Background text-messaging
Now you can also add a custom background to your textmessage overview yay!
Multi-tasking upgrade bonanza
At first it didn't seem to me that the multi-tasking was incorporated just yet. I had to search for that son of a gun. Turns out, they've given the 'up' - arrow at the bottom of the screen a pretty big make-over.
Where at first you just had some pop-ups like the S Note, Calculator, World time, etc. You now have a world of 'new' possibilities. I haven't played with this a lot yet, but it seems promising. Although there doesn't seem to be any support for third party apps.
When you press the arrow, you get to select which app you want to open. Also you can arrange the open apps in various lay-outs. Free-floating, and a few grid options (see images). Dragging a free floating app to one side of the screen, has a Windows 7 - like feature, making it expand to that side of the screen.
Now I hear people think, "why isn't there a multi-task button in the apps anymore?". Well, you can easily make a (samsung) app free floating, by dragging downwards from the outside, at the top of your screen. (Just like opening notifications on android smartphones!)
To me all these multi-task features feel a bit 'buggy', but I might have a change of heart when I get used to using it
Improved screenshots
Now you can hold the pen button and DRAG! to immediately marquee an area that you want to cut out and take a snapshot of.
Haven't gotten to testing this a lot, so bear with me on the 2 shots
Improved text selection
When selecting text in 4.1.1 you first get an Apple-like magnifier, which is stylized in a pixel-art-like style. It's pretty small though. The selection markers are a bit smaller and seem to have improved performance. In 4.0.4 I found it rather annoying to use them.. In 4.1.1 it feels much better
If you know how to take a screenshot of the notifications, please let me know. The pen method and the on-screen short-cut don't work.
You miss anything? Request something!
Thank if you like!

About the multiwindow feature: nice find! Love this more than the "old" way.
Did you also noticed the new way of selecting text. They are using a magnifier now like the iPad/iPhone. Nice steal .. Hope they don't gonna troll Apple by copying everything that is not patented LoL
Thanks for the list. Looks promising for sure!
I don't know how it is in a browser but in tapatalk none of these pics will zoom.

@Mitchellvii; All these image-thumbnails are hyperlinked to the images on imgur, where they are hosted. I don't know how to do it differently on this forum
I know it works fine when I use the XDA app, but this was all created on my laptop
Looks nice so far. But as much as I enjoy having 85 different styles of notebook covers to choose from, how about:
1) Allowing us to create and save our own templates? <<< This!
2) Some white lined paper (yeah crazy right?)
3) A "chalkboard" background so we can write in white (hey I'm weird, I prefer whiting in white ink).
Holy s**t! The new multi tasking looks superb!
One X to rule them all
Looks promising with 4.1.1.

Quick heads-up. This is definitely not supposed to be a release candidate. There are a lot of times when apps crash, you can't change lock-screen background due to system crashes etc etc.
Samsung's new testing team -- XDA members!
Seriously, this is a good method. Their phones/tabs are unlocked, so it's easy for anyone to try Beta software. This allows Samsung to get real in-depth review of bugs in the codes. And it's fun for many people. Just look at SGS3 JB leaks -- new leak every single day. I won't even call them a leak now!

So far I've only experienced one app crash in S Note, and also I tried to change the lock screen background and it works for me.
Been using the update for like 2 days now, and it has been suprisingly reliable for me.

I believe Samsungs developers are reading this forum, if you have a look at http://www.sammobile.com/ you can see that Samsung are leaking a new JB rom for the SIII pretty much every single day, which would make me think that they are actually using the bug reports and posts in the forum to correct bug and leak new releases.
Too scared to have a proper beta program which allow half of the people able to flash it without getting weird errors?

After the recent update from ICS to JB, many have noticed new S-Note problems.
Problems:
1.) Palm Detection Fail
2.) Missing Full Screen Function
This thread is to consolidate everything together. And bring awareness and hopefully find a fix or workaround to these issues.
Darkman posted the old version of S-Note, but so far there no one has confirmed that they work on JB.

S Note's not broken in JB, it's different and OP isn't pleased with some of the changes Samsung made. This is what he posted in another thread...

I've been using the updated version of S Note in JB since November and have been fine with it. I guess others have been too since this is the first time someone's called the new features "issues." And you can't just apply a different S Note APK because there are supporting files that it needs and it will FC when you try to open it. I don't know what to tell you OP, it is what it is.
Full screen is one thing, but how can you stand the palm detection issue?
If you rest your hand on the screen first before your s-pen gets within proximity, it will unintentionally zoom.
Before, There was no problem with palm touching the screen first.
You are fine with this?

Samsung added scroll bars at the bottom and right of an active S Note because people were unhappy with the scrolling box in earlier versions. The scroll bars are sensitive to non-pen input even when palm rejection is active. I'm guessing this is to make it easier to navigate around an S Note. They also added multi-point non-pen input so that even when the palm rejection is active, if you touch the display in two places at once (EG: with two fingers), it will allow zooming. So since I've known this I avoid touching the scroll bar areas and make sure that my palm touches the display solidly so it's not mistaken for "two fingers." Here's a quick video showing what I'm talking about.
And here's something that might help. In the newer version of S Note that added a new template, "landscape note." At 100% it uses the all of the Note's display and therefore doesn't need to display scroll bars. So you get some of the real estate that you lost with the elimination of full screen mode back as well as eliminating the scroll bars which are sensitive to input even with palm rejection on.
And to answer your question, I am fine with it because I hated the scroll box and there are times when I do navigate with my fingers (scroll bars, two finger zoom) while I'm primarily using the pen.
Trust me, it's not the scroll bars that is causing the scrolling hahaha.
BTW, your video is private.
If that was the issue, then people who are complaining would be retarded.
You can put your palm right in the middle of the page, FAR away from any scroll bars on the side, and STILL it will zoom wildly.
Yes, even in the landscape template.
Maybe your palm is different than mine and many others. Because when I'm holding the S-PEN, the moment my side palm hits the screen, the Note zooms CRAZILY!!! All over the place.

Oops. Sorry. You can see in the video that S Note only responds to non-pen touch when I make contact with the display with more than two points.
I see in your video your palm movement indeed does not induce the same Zooming that I have experienced.
I suspect this is because your palm is only contacting the screen at one point.
The way you have learnt to hold your pen, only the back of your palm (near the wrists) rests on the screen.
For many of us, the whole side blade of our palm rests on the screen, therefore presents many more Points of Contact resulting in misinterpreted Zoom behavior.
Mmmh! You could clearly see the issue at ~16 seconds with the zoom (top right) starting to do its crazy thing... nice bit of palm re-adjusting in an attempt to hide it
Whilst the scroll bar is a good addition, they borked palm rejection! They could of integrated the pen button for zooming, scrolling, pen only and full screen.
I also have a bug which must be solved quickly!
When I use form recognition for drawing schema, SNote often deletes previous forms and I can't use the revert feature.
Any other similar experience?
Im really not sure how people are complaining about the new S Note. The old one had a fair number of bugs and limitations. Great new features I noticed are:
- Switch between eraser and pen with pen button -love this
- PDF import actually works and doesn't crash S Note
- Pam rejection mode is gone but new mode does allow for scrolling and zooming which I like.
- New scrollbar is useful
- You can now scroll tops of pages to below the top toolbar. Not being able to do that before was annoying. Eliminates need to hide the toolbar.
- Air view with hovering pen makes for easy scrolling.
- Air view also brings up help tips when hovered over anything in S Note. It also let you expand a folder in the file select screen and you can go right to a note in that file.
Probably even more I may have missed. I think losing the full screen is definitely a fair trade off, especially as several people have mentioned, it's not even as useful anymore. I do agree it would be nice to still have as an option so that you can have a full pad of paper on your screen. But it is definitely not a dealbreaker. With all the new features and bug fixes I think you'd be nuts to downgrade to an older S Note just for that.
And the palm detection??? It's always behaved that way... get used to putting the pen close to the screen before your hand and you won't have problems. It was that way in ICS and it's not hard to get used to. Again having the total palm rejection mode as a second option would be preffered but certainly not a dealbreaker. The new mode also has advantages.
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda app-developers app
I can guarantee you that Palm Detection did NOT function in the same way before.
In fact, in 4.0.4, S-Note would not even Zoom unless touch access was enabled.
So there was no chance of miss detection.
All the other features you list are great, but besides the point.
Just because you fed your kid a nice meal of Kraft Dinner does not excuse you from murdering it after.

I have noticed that if you lift the pen while writing then either the screen zooms or it starts making marks on the page. This is why I have switched to Write app for the notes app with it set to ignore all touch input (still registers the pen touch) and works great. Just wish I could change page background.
Now I really use the pen much more and like it more also.
I went through the thread and summarized the changes. While the stuff discussed is new to us it's the same as the Tab Pro 10.1. Here's a link to the Tab Pro user manual in case anyone wants more detail. http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...axy_Tab_PRO_KK_English_User_Manual_NAE_F2.pdf

You can add tons more apps out of the box. Apps available are now common to both multiview and Pen Window. You can now directly open Pen Window apps without using Air Command or having to draw on the screen. You just open the multiview panel from the right and tap an app (vs. dragging it). A box comes up allowing you to open it in traditional multiview mode or floating like Cascade view worked on the OG Note 10.1. Pretty cool.
Tapping the box with the "+" sign shown below opens an app in a floating window, the box below it opens it as a standard multiview window.

So far with S Note, I've noticed some features that I either didn't know existed before, or are new. Inserting an image there is now a "Take picture in drawn frame" option where you draw the frame for the picture, and the camera is loaded inside of the frame for you to take a picture of something. Quite useful I must say. Another, definitely new option is that for annotating. A new button at the bottom of S Note, with an "A" and a pen as the icon, allows you to zoom in or your notes and write on them with greater precision in a zoomed in box at the bottom of the screen. You can resize the box to a size that suits you.

Multitouch issues?
Are the multitouch screen issues resolved, or at least lessened, by this firmware? I'm somewhat new to Android and may just wait for the OTA US update, but I do wonder. Would it be advised to update to another recent firmware that DOES fix the issue prior to updating to Kitkat? Or would Kitkat firmware totally just overwrite the previous update anyway? Thanks all.

Yes, this 'cheat' works. But what did you mean with 'softkey'? I don't have one... and the menu key is still a menu key. So, we still have to long press the home key for the taskmanager (also with this cheat). But first time I long press the home button (before the cheat) I got a info popup, which is talking about the menu key. This is for me another hint that this is not a final version. Also some system settings entries didn't work but crash and so on.

I'm obviously new to Samsung tablets, only having Samsung smartphones in the past. But why is the SM-P600, a Wi-Fi tablet requiring regional roll outs? There is no carrier bloat to deal with. I can understand language and possibly keyboard differences, but really? I bought the WiFi version to avoid this type of roll out. I guess back to Nexus devices if I want direct updates...

Yes it is possible to use the menue softkey to open up the task manager.
But you have to be rooted.
Use an root file explorer to navigate to /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
