Battery usage resetting itself ? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This has just started happening for me after about a couple weeks of use my battery usage stats days hours minutes are no longer being remembered after I power off so I have no idea after a full charge how long its been running down, if I check those stats its starting from 0 seconds every time I power on not just after a full charge.
This is on stock with only a few apps installed not unlocked or rooted have also done a reset but it didn't make a difference.
Any ideas ?????

[Q] Stranger awake behaviour

My TF is behaving very odd lately. I have a dock with the tablet and the first few weeks that I have used it I could get literally 16 hours of use.
I use "Android System Info" to track my battery use. It is very accurate, and now its gone haywire. It reports that my tablet has an uptime of 3 days and 2 hours. It also reports that my uptime (without sleeps) is 13 hours and 30 minutes.
Now my actual settings (android os) tell me that my uptime is 1 day and 2 hours. Which is absolutely true (that's the last time I charged it).
Here's the funny part. The battery use menu tell me that the tablet has been "Awake" for many hours at a time and atleast 20 times more than the screen has been on.
And it's just BURNING thru my battery. It just plummeted from 38% to 14% in 20 minutes.
I don't have any suspicious apps on my TF, lol.
[Q] Is a factory reset my only option?
EDIT: This started happening immediately after I tried using Juice Defender. I uninstalled it, but the battery still drains like mad. Also my screen now turns on at random.
the hours being different from each other could be from removing it from the dock. I would back everything up and try and do a reset, it wouldnt hurt any. Then you can see if its a hardware issue or a setting that got changed.
I mean at this point I'm resetting my TF every few days messing around with things

Good post thanks.
Got 1 tip Ive noticed recently and that is to ''Reboot your phone at very least once a week''. Reason for this as Ive left it for 2 weeks with out reboot and charged up full and went to work which was 40 mins away. Then noticed that battery was at 80%. So an hour later was down to 50%. I checked my running services and nothing running only standard android stuff. So I rebooted and then was on 40% and that lasted me 11hrs of radio while at work with 4 calls I made.
I know you can ''wipe battery stats'' in Recovery but I didn't use it this time but rebooting the phone stopped the massive drain.
May be different for you?
I wiped the battery stats when it was fully charged, and now it lasts 2 days without recharge. I'm also running juice defender for some more power saving.

Bam. Random. Battery life from amazing to crummy

running a flashed stock 4.0.4 ICS ROM, Rooted.
everything was running great. battery life was one of the more amazing parts of this tablet. then one day last week i had it on the charger half the day, went to go grab it, wouldn't turn on.
after lots of button pushing, swearing, about 30 minutes of it, i put it back on the charger. 10 minutes later i got a blue battery symbol charging and i held down the power button for 30 seconds and it turned on. since then have had no issues with it working, except battery life is poor. the initial time after i used it, the thing lost like a percent every couple of minutes just sitting there. it was dead within an hour and a half or so, barely touched.
i charged it fully, and reset the battery stats via battery calibrator (even though google says that is useless), then i let it drain to 0 with usage and charged it up again. now the battery life is pretty average. i lose about 10% every half hour on wifi browsing the web, screen at anywhere from 15-30% via Lux, and checking to see if anything is running nonstop in the background. so that gives me only 5 hours of total battery life just browsing the web. before i was watching HD movies 2 hours long on almost 100% brightness with some browsing and messing about in the middle and losing 20%.
i have better battery stats installed and the tab is going into deep sleep very well. also it is barely utilizing full speed, it is rarely at 1.2ghz, usually at 500mhz or 200mhz if not deep sleeping.
a couple times i had some partial wakelock issues but nothing bad. but every other day, the battery life just goes fast just doing regular stuff. nothing unusual going on in the background.
anyone else have this happen?
if i do a full reset can that help? or is this a hardware failure and time to call samsung.
The best battery life I have ever had was on Quicksilver 0.9. I got about 13,5 hours with the display on (WiFi off and airplane mode on)...
On a stock rom u should get about 10 hours with the display on.
On cyanogen-mod ROMs I am experiencing the same thing as you. The battery is dead after ~7 hours.
I would suggest to restock the tab, wipe it and just run with the apps you really need. Maybe even try Quicksilver and to be 100% sure u could even flash the ROM when the battery is at 100%.
What does the battery stats in the settings-app say?
battery settings shows nothing that could be a culprit. this thing deep sleeps like a champ.
screen off just laying around i won't even lose a percent an hour. just all of a sudden i went from being able to browse the web on wifi for 10 hours, to 5. all after that weird time the battery drained super fast.
i wiped cache and dalvik cache, same thing.
going to try reflashing with the newer ICS posted recently. UK Q2 based and see what happens.
P.S. how long until i can post more than once every 5 minutes?

Battery Usage Screen ???

Sorry if this is a stupid question I just need some clarification.
The battery usage screen shows how long you have been running on battery days, hours, minutes, seconds etc should this information be retained even after you power off, say you run it for 30 minutes on battery and power off when you turn it on again should it still show 30 minutes on battery and add on the new minutes or should it start from scratch again (0 seconds) ?

mine has been really inconsistent on my nexus. sometimes it'll be ahead a few hours but almost never does it exactly match up with the actual time. plus, it never updates if I press the refresh button. the only way to get it to refresh it to completely close the settings app and open it again. But yeah' a reboot tends to reset the counter.
So if its working correctly power off should reset the time counter because I'm sure this wasn't happening to mine at first hence the confusion plus the guide doesn't exactly read that way ?
That seems good

The battery usage stats carry on from where they left off from when the device was last powered down. They are only reset when it has been charged to 100% and unplugged.

Well that's what I thought it should do so I guess I'm unlucky then
The first one I had behaved that way for two weeks then started resetting back to 0 seconds after power off so I sent it back for another which I got today this also worked correctly until I charged it for the first time now that's also resetting back to 0 seconds after power off.
Not done anything to this one except install two apps, I sent the other one back because even a factory reset didn't solve the problem that was also on stock not unlocked or rooted.

factory reset does phone damage ?????

hey i worried about the factory resets phone to do much more than 8times per week. i dont ever to do resets than lower battery 20℅... after last reset battery discharge 3 hours 10℅. before last reset not drain quickly just 2% per 8hours without battery saver. i did when the phone is turn off when 0 battery i put on charger and see 0 battery so i power device. is it bad ??? i want my old battery status.. or maybe i waiting for battery calculating time ? because not show how many hours left to discharge.
