Is Social Hub dead? - Galaxy S III General

I liked in my old S2, and now I miss it in my S3.
Anyone knows why disappear?
Anyone know if you can get by S3? Anyone knows if there is another application that does the same?
I liked it and I felt comfortable with all the accounts of the various social networks in a list on a same screen ...
Flipboard is Ok, but is a different scope.
Thanks

The applications that were used originally in it were likely seen as cumbersome as the actual apps provided better service and the same features. Why get two notifications of your friend tweeting you a message or liking the new picture you posted?
SNS is now used in a more native manner, such as face tagging in photos, etc. Just download the proper app and you won't miss the hub.

There is absolutely no reason to miss it. Just make a good use of Google Play and you''ll find more good software...

Many thanks.

One cannot replace one thing had Social Hub: Push mail. In part, that was one of the reasons I selected and android phone instead of a Blackberry last year. Now Samsung removed it without prior notice to their buyers. After investing a good sum of money on getting a suposely better phone than my S2, I find Samsung fools their users into buying some cuted down version of software (and giving in replace the most useless piece of blotaware one can think of: S Suggest ! - I think it has to be some sort of joke)
Yep, I am very disappointed with Samsung.

[Facebook Apps] - Facebook S! VS. Facebook for Android

To start off, I'll shed light on where you can find the following applications
Facebook S! - Found in the [Samsung Apps] application off your application drawer.
Facebook for Android - Found in the [Android Market].
Well as we all know. Facebook for Android is horrible as it brings you to the mobile site everytime you hit something off the Notifications area(not integrated within the application itself). And it's slow compared to the Facebook iOS users get. And that is pretty sad. I'm not a Facebook whore so I'm not "essentially complaining" but I guess I'm speaking for the masses?
So I was browsing [Samsung Apps] for fun and I realized there's a new application released! That's right. Facebook S! It has no underbar as Notifications though it can be found under "Inbox". But, it's all integrated within the application! No more mobile-site!
While that's a step-up from the Facebook for Android application, I'm keeping both for the heck of it.
What's your view?
tl;dr - There's a new Facebook application off [Samsung Apps], try it. Compare it with the Facebook application off the [Android Market] and tell me what you think.
OMG, nice... i try samsung one and it works like a charm... my new FB app.
I just want to visit my facebook account occasionally, I don't want a facebook ' account' on my phone, why do all the apps in the market set one up and try to sync things I don't want this...

There's also a kart racing game available.
Facebook S!
Hey guys... I saw this when I flashed to JM7 but it's not avail on JPC... any chance we might get an apk uploaded... thought I'd pushed on to the external SD, but must have pushed it to the internal... and of course to get to JPC I reformatted that one! )
Thanks in advance!
Facebook S! Wont work on FroYo, i have tested it, FC's.

That's bad news
ye I don't wanna sync anything but my mail.
the facebook samsung pushed out ain't bad.
yup there's a task manager off samsung too. lol.
I tried both and to be honest I think both suck. I just login through the mobile web. A lot faster!
I think Facebook S is totally futile piece of software. Doesn't bring anything really new and lacks essential functionalities. It's also slow, because it always seem to load stuff when one changes the tab.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i've came to a conclusion that both suck in comparison to what the apple's appstore has.
well i hope facebook steps up. >.>
shall use the Facebook for Android for now. mobile site is way faster than all that loading ****.
Facebook_s sucks even more than the regular app.loading times are horrific.Plus it also looks a lot less crisp then the regular app.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Doesn't have a widget either. While it's not amazingly functional I am a fan of having the normal facebook widget on my homescreen.
isn't the feeds widget the facebook widget for samsung?!
Facebook S is crap. It is extremely limited. All you can do is browse your wall and other people's walls. Things like Facebook Events and contact lists that are in the official app, are all missing.
I don't know why people have problems with the official Facebook app, I find it works awesome. Its basically identical to the iPhone one now.

This is not true in Facebook S you can upload Video easily.. and you can view them very fast..the normal facebook app will not upload video's and its hard to view videos.. in the Facebook S you have a tab just for videos
Ditto with what one of the previous posters said...I stick with the mobile website.
The Android Facebook app doesn't look that good IMHO. The Samsung one is REALLY buggy and clunky. Searching for friends doesn't turn up results unless they are all shown in the list below...so you have to manually click show more or whatever to get all your friends to show, and then you can search for them. That's a bit inconvenient and senseless if you ask me. Also the inbox is messed up.
Both apps load really slow. The mobile website is still what I rely on. I just bookmark it to make it easier to get to.
Hi to all,
unfortunately i delete the facebook s app from my galaxy i9000 and now i can not find it anymore.
I also went in to samsung app, but......where it is?
Could you please post it here (or let me know where I can find it)?
I also didn't find it with samsung kies.
Best regards
I just stick with touch.facebook.com on my browser, find it much better than any of the apps.
When I first got my phone i used the facbook S and i thought there was something wrong with my phone as it took ages to upload and was generally slow in all area's.
Then tried official app and found it a world of difference - ok the mobile site is still quicker but for most thing the app is ok.

How to remove TouchWiz (sort of)

Tim Hutt (from this forum) has done a great job of packaging the standard ICS launcher, sms app and calendar and sticking them on the market. You can get them here: (original thread)
Launcher, Calendar, Messaging
I've also removed that horrible chatON. Go to settings and click on Application Manager, click on the All tab, then find and click on chatON. Click on Force Stop and Disable. This will stop it appearing on the lock screen. The same thing can be applied to all Samsung bloatware, such as backup, account, software updates, etc.
This solution has turned out to work really well for me as I actually some of the new features on the phone, such as the motion bits, and the water unlock.
The dialer is the only thing that gets on my nerves still so if anyone has any way to get the original, do tell.
And if you also get annoyed by the icons and want the original ICS ones, get the ICS icons from here, and get QuickShortcutMaker.
You can now make shortcuts to the camera, dialer etc but use the original icons. It's anal I know, but I like what I like
Root your phone and use titanium back up then delete what you want

The Worst Application Award!!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, thanks in most to you and the XDA Community ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28984095#post28984095 ) I PRESENT TO YOU...
THE WORST APPLICATION AWARD WINNER IS......
THE FACEBOOK APP!
Why you may ask when compared to some other poor apps? Well here is my reasoning and I would love the hear yours
The Facebook Application for Android has been around for a very very long time now, since at LEAST Android 2.0 and through all this time Facebook and Android have been advancing with more functions and features at a faster rate then we can keep up to. Facebook claims to have some of thee best programmers and coders to offer, yet they problem is instead of fixing the issues on their applications and website they look over these and add new features, and break or "rethink" old ones. There once was a time when Facebook chat was reliable, and when people could easily understand how things worked yet now? Facebook is slowly becoming a mess.
I don't mean to say I hate Facebook, because though it isn't the best (or better then Google+) it is still decent and mostly enjoyable on a computer. The phone app however? It has seriously pained me to use. Back when I didn't know about alternate apps for Facebook, I would often AVOID checking and updating my Facebook thinking "OH I SHOULD SHARE THAT PICTURE.... But wait that'll take forever.... nevermind".
Facebook should think more about this issue... and they should take all their employees and tell them "Work on the website ALONE" then Facebook should come over to XDA Developers, and hire some very talented, and smart app developers, who are UP TO DATE on Androids features, and make a application that you should expect from a multi-billion dollar company.
What do you guys think? Any bad stories from the app? Do you think it will ever get better??
(PS: I know worse apps exist in the market and online, but this is partly a joke, but most importantly is that Facebook is a massive social network that should have MUCH better an app)
The app sucks I agree

FACEBOOK SUCKS!!! It is one of the worst apps ever! with so much cash, fb is really lazy at coding apps, check out Google+, much better experience.
Yep! Facebook app totally sucks. I used friendcaster a lot, its good n very fast but now I left facebook permanently bcoz of awesome google+ app
The Google+ app just blows the Facebook one out of the water, shame people haven't learnt how good of a social network Google+ is. Facebook would end up like Myspace and Bebo if people weren't so scared of change.
I agree
They should just buy out Friendcaster and make it their offical app...
The only problem with 3rd party apps is you don't have access to friend's posts who have their privacy settings set up differently. They won't show up in your news feed. The mobile site OK, but still kinda sucks in terms of use. The reply box has become extremely buggy, never autocompletes words, capitalizes Is or makes contractions properly. It's a friggin joke, and I can only imagine how awful the app is by the responses given in this thread. I've heard the iOS one isn't too great, either. I think part of the problem is they are too focused on the desktop experience due to ads and a bunch of other stuff(half the time it doesn't load my feed properly on Chrome). I've started browsing G+ which seems to have improved greatly since I got the original invite. Sucks more of my friends aren't on it. Now I just use FB to coordinate events with people. haha.

They changed and many migrated to FB. It just seems whatever is trendy at the time is what people go for. A lot of people don't even know what G+ is, sadly. They're pushing a few commercials here and there and I know a TON of people have GMail accounts, but barely know how to navigate through the menus to find it, even though it's right there in the corner. Only time will tell, I suppose.

Official Facebook App

I know a lot of people complain about the official Facebook app, slowing down their phone. I just wanted to inform people that that is not the case for me. Simply because I don't have an account or the app.
Onto more relevant stuff: Under the Hood: Dalvik patch for Facebook for Android and Koush does a quick explanation. For those that have the time and curiosity, read the comments on Koush's post. Very enlightening.
Quite an interesting read. Thanks for the links pons.
The slowness is also a reason I switched to the app tinfoil.

I tried atrium, it was supposedly the top alternative in an article I read but was an immediate failure because it couldn't find a friend.
I would certainly like to know exactly what purpose the face book app has taking up 17mb on my precious dinc fresh off the market. I've seen it swell in excess of 40 mb with heavy use. Get outta here! It seems completely absurd and a bit arrogant of the Facebook corporation to clog up everyone's devices and hide god knows what kind of unpublished ill will in the code.
I wish someone would reverse engineer or whatever so we know why it is so big.

BBM now live...

So Blackberry Messenger is now live. But I've its forced close like a dozen times in the last hour. Just me?
Btw add me 75e83757
It's live, but the waiting list makes it useless until you get in
A waiting list for a messenger is one of the most ridiculous things that I've heard this year. They obviously do not have the infrastructure in place to provide a cross platform service properly.
The little interest that I did have in Blackberry's last throw of the dice evaporated with that move. The only way I will install BBM now is if literally my entire contact list moves over to it and uses nothing else (not likely).

It's live for me. But I used the leaked apk for a while before BB disabled it. So my email address was active from day one. Plus I used to have a BlackBerry back a couple years ago on the same email account. So I got instant access when it hit the play store.

I can't help feel BlackBerry have shot themselves in the foot here. BBM for BlackBerry has remained, as it always was, a paid service. Yet the BBM on other platforms is free. Makes no sense. Surely it's freeing up everyone who wanted a BB for BBM to just move to say Android for the greater choice of handsets, better specs etc... and free BBM. Not a great business move at all. Idiots. That's all I can say. Even putting ads in BBM could have helped saved their asses. Imagine the audience BBM will get, 1 million downloads of the LEAKED app alone. They are kissing goodbye to some great opportunities here. But hell, I'm android now. Screw BlackBerry and their weird market strategy.

Because there is a waiting list, presumably because they haven't got enough servers to handle demand. Probably the same reason they halted the rollout last month, despite blaming people with the leaked apk.
Also, you really should remove your email address from that screenshot.

Actually seeing as with BB10 the devices no longer require a blackberry data plan(shocking to me really) then it is free for all newer devices which is probably why they probably decided to open it up to other platforms.
As for the app itself, no force closes on my device, was unable to add contacts the 1st night I got to register but then by the next morning it was all working smoothly.
A few years to late. Funny how Bb tries to stay relevant.

BBM has something of a cult style following. I personally hate WhatsApp. It's user interface is ugly and it doesn't always notify me or my other half that we actually have sent each other messages. Plus bbm you don't have to have the contact in your phone book. Which is always a good thing.

I've used Whatsapp every day for 3 years (as does the entire country) and it always notifies. Probably user error.
Actually not needing an account (as it uses your contacts) is one of the greet things about Whatsapp, because you don't need an account that you need to sign in to or add eachother. It's just like SMS but free plus group conversations, free image/video send etc.

Hardly user error considering I've used it since it hit Android and know my way round the very simple app very well. Probably more a phone error. I'm on an XZ with various mods, my other half's on an iPhone 4, which doesn't accept Whatsapp properly anyway. Worked perfectly on my HTC.

With the increasingly large number of BBM threads being created throughout XDA on a regular basis, the Moderation Team assigned to this group of forums has decided that it's simply not feasible to allow it to continue any further. Since BBM groups are more of a social group rather than a discussion about a particular device, they are not appropriate for a device specific forum such as this one, and in the interest of keeping the forums clean we have decided to close all BBM threads in our assigned device specific forums.
Having said that, there are options still available to users that require the use of BBM groups as a medium for communication:
1) You may post your PINs, group info, etc., in the BBM for Android located in XDA General.
2) You can send your info through a private message to the OPs of existing BBM group threads.
3) You can include your PIN, QR code, or group info in your signature.
Since BBM groups are a relatively new topic on XDA, it is still possible that certain accomodations could be made sometime in the future depending on the overall need. Until then, the decision to close all BBM threads in our area will remain in effect so we appreciate your understanding and cooperation on the matter.
Thank you
