Best ICS Rom? Which CM9? - G2 and Desire Z General

Which is the best (and most stable) ICS Rom? From what I've been reading, it's between "CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC2" and Mimicry 1.4.0.
The CM9-RC2 is a bit off putting because CM9 is now stable, except for us with Desire Z's, so does that mean the best we're going to get is the CM9-RC2? Does the RC2 build here include the latest from CM9-stable that was recently released?
Mimicry, on the other hand, I've read includes the CM9 stable but I think that's only for 1.4.1, which is still in testing phase, so again that means that 1.4.0 is the only stable release for it at the moment.
Meanwhile, CM10 is too beta for me to even consider at the moment.

by the way it's "CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC2" Unofficial not just "CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC2" as it doesn't come from the Cyanogenmod team. The unofficial one is just a port by Jerl92 who just happened to use their name for it. Mimicry is just as much a CM9 port as the rest (but least he takes the latest CM9 heads from their git when compiling new source).
But far as best, for me it's a toss up between Mimicry (Andromadus branch of CM9 sources) and EliteMod (which uses AOKP as a rom, but Jerl's CM9 kernel).

To clear up the confusion as to what constitutes CM9 stable, stated in the release post for 1.4.0 here.
CM9 has an official stable release and all those patches have been merged into Mimicry 1.4.0. This is still a beta release, since we suffer from unofficial drivers and such, but it may be as close as we get for AOSP ICS.

try CM10 builds from Flinny http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605016 - quick & stable. of course some glitches here and there, but overall it works better than CM9 - I think its worth trying!

i've use a CM9 , (works good, with one or 2 small bugs )

Mimicry, the best
I'm using Mimicry 1.4.0, but I've used many others roms, in the recent past.
This is, by far, the best ICS rom, for me: smooth, stable and beautiful.

even essmersi
at this time i"ve use a testbuilds of JB and ICS..
and its faster and smoother than CM9.
But have bug with camera..
ASAP i've to test a mimicry

CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC2 - 2.6 Kernel is good
not download cyanogenmod 9 from kernel 3.x ( kernel 3.x have a bug for the moment )
download CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC2

Mimicry 1.4.0 is about perfect. For me it's just the first custom ROM after stock gingerbread with sense. I don't regret at all having lost htc sense, the phone is faster and ics with nova Launcher has enough eyecandy and shortcuts by itself.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app

First custom ROM I tried was Andromadus Audacity beta4 which was very good, but after some time I switched to Andromadus Mimicry which is even better imo. I've used Mimicry 1.1.2, 1.3.0 and 1.4.0 and I can highly recommend it.
Few days ago I switched to Andromadus test builds (by Flinny) which is CM10 Jelly Bean. So far that also seems very good though there are some bugs. The only really annoying bug for me that I've noticed is that the Fn button on the hw keyboard doesn't work at all for me, so I can't use the hw keyboard for any numbers or special characters (I have the scandinavian hw keyboard).

I usually hold it when using it. Have tried both ways holding and without. Still doesn't work. Though now I noticed that it does work with few keys. Fn only seems to work with @, æ and ø to produce ~, ? and !, but doesn't work with any other key. So I can use Fn to produce ~?! and I don't even have to hold it, but I can't get any other special characters or numbers with it.

I just updated from Flinny's build 85 to 92 (the newest atm) and now Fn works almost normally. I can write all special characters (yay \o/) with Fn but now it sticks even if I press it only once (not twice and not holding). So now if I press Fn (and release) it stays on (like caps lock on PC) until I press it again two times. Normally after one press it would just affect the next key press but not the following after that.
And strangely it seems to be the same problem with shift keys now.

If you're using Swiftkey 3, that's a reported bug with that keyboard, not an issue with the rom.

I think both roms are good, mimicry is based on CM9, it just adds more feature so i suggest you to try mimicry.

I'm using Flinny's CM10 build 94 as DD. It actually is quite fast and stable. Yes, there are a few bugs but Flinny is quickly working them out.

I'll still continue using Swiftkey though.

There is no such thing as a best Rom, each rom meets the needs of users in diffrent ways, best advice try lots of diffrent roms and find one that suits you.
Please no more what is the best rom threads.

MIUS vs. CM7

Stability vs. Customization. I was a CM Fanatic(CM Donator) on my Nexus One until buggy laggy nightlies shifted me over to the far more stable & silky smooth MIUI but w/ MIUI I lost some customization that was there w/ CM7. Looking forward to Cyanogenmod getting their ish together and releasing a new stable so I can give them another shot.
I've moved both ways in the 12 months that I've had my Nexus. I started out using CM6.x, then thought I'd try MIUI when Rod started his mod (which is awesome btw). When CM7 hit Gingerbread, I couldn't resist and flashed the first nightly (fully expecting to go back to my MIUI nandroid). That Nand is long since deleted and I'm a fully fledged CM7 lover.
I can't really explain the exact reasons for each change. I think I just like something different once in a while, and when CM took the best bits from MIUI (FM radio, toggle bar in notification area etc) I had no reason to stick with MIUI.
I think my next "Big Flash" will be either a Sense ROM (never tried one) or Rod's GB MIUI...
Sense ROM are awesome

Yes. MIUI is boring, yet CM is breathtaking ... been trying RCADSmix Sense 3.0 N1, new experience: new freezes, new force closes, new bootloops
So you're complaining that nightly/experimental builds of cm7 is buggy not stable. Go figure.

MIUS looks boring
CM7 seems just like stock Android... I mean it's much more stable and offer a few more customizations compared to stock android.
But MIUI is a different experience altogether. You can change the launcher if you don't like the iPhone-like app organization you can change the launcher. However, MIUI's messaging, contacts and various functionality built in is very well thought out and I find it really convenient to use without relying on 3rd party apps. Besides, since MIUI is based on CM7, it is just as stable.

Currently playing with Deck's latest PB9. Tried AOKP Build28. Both need some patching on the edges to get things working, but Deck has HWA.
I use miui its nice, almost lol
AOKP M4 has Bern treating me great. Haven't tries decks yet, but the HWA sounds enticing. But for reliability and customization, I've been hanging with AOKP. Haven't tried drews since p6, I think.

I feel the same way, I love drew and decks work, but I need all my customization options! I just wish HWA would get into AOKP, and I wouldn't ever really complain much, everything else works well, and oh my the battery life.
Slackin scott, where is your vote?
I use jared's ICS because its stable. Playing with gummy because its also stable. I'd recommend both roms.
I've been using Decks since PB4. I tried AOKP milestone 4, but couldn't get GAPPS to work. I use Miui ICS, but it was very laggy compared to Decks.
I've run all the ICS on a slot in Boot Manger Pro.

There was a Gapps file that was posted in the Boot Manager forums. ie:init2winit.
It would work with AOKP's ICS. Not sure why the regular Gapps wouldn't work though.
I've also flashed all of them in to BM slots.
For ICS Roms I've played with some of JTG's early builds, Gummy, Drew's, AOKP Milestone 4, And now Deck's.
I ran PB5 for a day and now I'm planning to flash PB9 in the next day or so.
Deck's stuff looks good. All of the Dev's are making great strides with ICS though.

I am using Gummy's ICS on my phone. So far it is stable and I have had no problems other than some apps needing to be updated to work properly. The camera and camcorder does have some minor glitches, but I can overlook them. I really like all of the tweaks that comes with the ROM, you can set up the phone how you like. It is a great stable ICS ROM to use as your daily driver.

I was not aware of that. Of course, I'm not registered on their forum, which I hardly browse at it too.
I do find decks works in regards to lack of lag and smoothness. I do shut off all animations, so all the eye candy is wasted on me. I did find PB5 was significant less stable on Tiamat ICS kernal than the stock; I've read, but don't know for certain, that the stock kernal is Tiamat based anyway. Although, deck's has some of the same issues found on all ICS builds. Although, the camera preview has been fixed; camera still a little glitchy. WiFi seems to need a few tweaks.
What I do like, OnLive and their Universal blue tooth controller, work well.
on a side note, I'm not all that thrilled with Nova Launcher. I'm more partial to Launcher Pro with Folder Organizer. I guess I've been on Windows too long, and like to group things together, yet keep my panes clean looking.
In the end, all the ICS roms are making strides.
I've used MIUI ICS, because ICS doesn't have 4G anyway. It had random reboots, but I didn't see other people with the same problem on the forum so I dunno.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1534492
i've used a lot of ics rom's so far (basically all but AOKP and MIUI) and i like gummy so far. No random reboots, really smooth, i wish it had full HWA so i could use chrome, i really like the softkeys, but the keyboard needs to be fixed when you use the softkeys ( half of the bottom row of buttons is gone) and the little blue line on the top bar was gone. i havent used deck's in a while so it might really be improved. the only suggestion i would make for it is to tweak the kernel and the keyboard layout to take off the capacitive buttons and turn off the lights behind them.
AOKP right now, will likely try Decks since there is HWA.
Been running the Gummy port since it was released. Loving it so far. Super speedy and works well. The only problem is lately i'm getting more and more FC's on the stock features (email, music, gallery, file explorer, etc) not sure if it's a flaw in the ROM or a by-product of my meddling. Either way, still a great rom!
Ive used aokp, hmmm yup. Its good.
Ive also used gummy ics. Yup good.
Both have same rom control and pretty smooth. But many apps that i use wont respond or work too slow. Ex NFS hotpursuit.
Now im using PB9 decks-ics. Everything on my apps works now. modern combat 3 is now really smooth.

I have been running the unoffical CM9 by jmztaylor since the first release. Has been the best for my phone at least and very good battery life. You should just try them out and go with the one that your phone has the best results with.
gummy worms is still a valid ics rom but you are gonna be lacking hardware accelleration (hwa) and camera/camcorder can work but also is being reported broken sooo yeah
the lastest of aokp is known for being full of reboots (but as a side note i have only had 1 reboot so far but has some graphical glitches with menu's but nothing to knock it down any so again beware it could be different on your phone) but b33 has been the strongest /most stable but is lacking the camera fix but there is a zip you can flash with it.
jamie has an ics rom with hwa but doesnt have the customization tweaks that you find in aokp but i have had ZERO reboots in my experinces there is a camera fix used in aokp will most likely work for you here to since they are based off the same (correct me if im wrong please)
decks i have little experience with the latest builds so i'll leave someone else to input on that
same iwth cm9 but its been comin to the party a bit later but i hear its stable and on its way to being a good daily rom for most and i think the camera works but no camcorder/panoramic(again correct me if im wrong please i havent run this particular one so im pulling that from memory of reading thread)

Swipers MIUI ICS is amazingly stable.
You can't beat it
I've been using Deck's builds as daily drivers for a while now not quite as many features as AOKP or CM9, but quite stable on my handset. YMMV of course.
With ANY of the ICS ROMs you're looking at feature incomplete alpha or beta level builds. So "stable" is a relative term.
Dark light version 3.5 has been the most stable on my evo, plus its all themed out in black and white.

KWIQ ICS is working for me
ben.nesheim mentioned jamie's rom, that is KWIQ ICS. I was running AOKP all through April and was liking the progress. I think after they added the HWA it got unstable for me on my phone so I ventured out and tried KWIQ. It just worked on my phone giving me everything I needed. I recently added the patch for the camera and now the only two things I am missing are front camera (would like to try Skype again) and 4g. I would be happy enough with this setup if this is all I ever got. I now have Chrome browser and all my apps I care about. I am one happy camper.
And Jamie has commented that he is making progress on an update to be coming out as soon as he feels it is stable.
AOKP here for a few days now. Everything works very well except Hulu and Netflix (haven't tried Youtube yet) and once in a while the camera app stops/freezes for a minute.
Everything else is butter.
In addition to the original question, do any of them have fully functioning camera (front and back) and camcorder?
I tried qwik ICS and it was stupid stable but didn't have working camera.

Now that you have been reccomended every ICS rom for the evo. Lol.
My oppinion: Download teamdirt's cm9 and AOKP Milestone 5. (Milestone 5 can be found on the aokp website) Try out both roms, starting with AOKP.
Reason: I work using my phone for GPS and, on average, 15 calls and 25 texts a day. This means that if I flash a rom, it gets the full daily driver test.
That being said, AOKP was smooth, fast, battery efficient, and even easier to use And navigate. My only problem was random hot reboots.
Cm9 was somewhat choppy at times, but comparable to AOKP. NO REBOOTS!
Final verdict: Decks Reloaded. Lol. I couldn't decide so I went back to Gingerbread.

Most stable Desire Z ROM?

Hi
Currently Im on Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 RC1 nightly 414 and while OK, the other day it had a HORRIBLE (unbearable) slowdown period. Even multiple restarts didnt help. Finally it seems it fixed itself but Ive looking for something new. I use Go Launcher if that makes any difference. Im into speed but I think Im going to go with stable over speed this time.
What ROM do you recommend? Also nothing broken (automatically discards all CM9 ROMs)
If you are into Sense UI, go for Virtuous ROM, stock ROM tweaked + enhancements. If CM7 works if you are into vanilla ROMs.
I have been using virtuous glite 2.0.1 its stable I had no issues at all and I get great battery life, plus its slightly overclocked. Gslim1.6 is also very good but I had better battery life with glite. Both roms are based on GB 2.3.4. Here is a good rom index thread it lists all G2-Desire Z roms

I don't think you have tried much of the Sense ROMs back then, or maybe you were doing something wrong. I have had quite a few stable and fast sense ROMs. Of course they were not as fast as vanilla ones, but it works, knowing that you are the type who wants more features in ROMs.

Same, though I'm still tweaking my SetCPU settings and such, I like EliteMod's ICS rom the most right now particularly in terms of features and responsiveness. I was trying the unofficial CM9beta13 for a couple days and that thing was eating battery like no-body's business. EliteMod seems to be much more tweaked as it's the same setup Nik3r is using for his own personal Desire-Z.
But far as stability goes, I would agree that going with a Ginger rom would be the best bet, ICS right now is still too experimental in my opinion.
I've never tried the CM7 version of EliteMod, only the official CM 7.2.0 which was ok-ish for me. The EliteMod ICS Rom to me feels much faster and responsive than even the stock CM7rom, and I much prefer QuickPix app the EliteMod uses over that slow-arse Gallery app in CM7.
I would recommend andromadus mimicry (ics) its pretty stable and everything works (for me at least). It has the ics specific flaws like scrambled text in app drawer but launcher restart fixes it. Using this rom for 2 weeks and had this text issue 1 time. Battery is good also

You should try Elitemod cm7 it has never failed me, all the features you need, speed and stabiity plus amaizing battery life. If you wanna go ICS get the cm9 elitemod, but it is still a bit buggy.
I tried a lot of roms, and I always came back to ILWT CM7 (not new versions). Sense roms are quite good but not on Desire Z (too small amount of ram memory, multitasking on sense roms are poor - even on sense 2.1 roms with supercharger script). I waiting for stable CM9 (and yes i tried all versions of CM9 but text glitches and manually change apn to send/receives mms, makes me nervous).
That is only my subjective opinion
Anything CM7 based is very stable. Probably the most stable of all. Stay away from CM9 or anything ICS on this phone for another few months in terms of stability.

I can only vouch for my own experiences but I find cm9 very stable, perfect for a daily.

Going to install the Beta14 right now, the ALPHA 1 month ago had a lot of issues... but that was 1 month ago. Will post back...
Try Quadrasense! Not true that rom based on CM9 is not stable....
Quadrasense is very fast and stable
inviato da HTC Desire Z
For most stable overall rom I would recommend the latest ILWT CM7. For most stable ICS rom I would recommend the Andromadus Mimicry rom.

Menu arrow keys - CM10.1?

Hello,
My friend showed me his N4 and he had the "Menu arrow keys" option - I find this absolutely wonderful and cool feature as moving cursor while typing is one of the biggest pains I am experiencing on the touch devices. I used Nexus One and loved the trackball..
Anyways, I am on CM10.1. I know it has the feature of using volume keys to control the cursor but frankly that's not very practical in real life. I unfortunately I don't see the option for Menu arrow keys in my CM 10.1 settings. Any idea
a) whether there is any way to add this option to CM10.1?
b) if not, what ROMs have that feature?
c) any idea whether it is planned to be added to CM?
I generally like CM a lot but this is one major thing that is making me thinking about going to another ROM if I can't get it on CM...
Appreciate your help.
Carbon and aokp both have this feature. I personally use carbon and it's great.
Will cm have it? Not sure. They're very picky on what they want in their rom they won't even include resize navigation bars so I wouldn't count on them including it in their rom.
It's been in aokp and carbon for months now.

Yeah. I'll probably move from CM because of this. I quite like AOKP but don't like the fact that there is no stable or even RC - it seems to be just Nightlies...
What about LIquidsmooth - does it have it?
