I have a couple of relatives all in their 70's & 80's that want to be able to do a few basic things online at home. Most all are customers of a TV Company that gives them Free WiFi at home as part of their package.
At first they were interested in getting a computer but I think it would be too complicated for them and one lives 2 hours away so I can't really afford the time to constantly troubleshoot windows / PC problems.
Apple products like their Laptops, iPad, etc are too expensive
But they did have a play on an iPad and they like the idea of using their fingers to navigate rather then a Mouse & Keyboard
So I suggested a Nexus 7 as being a reasonably priced alternative. But the problem is I think the user interface isn't very user friendly for people that aren't fairly technical / familiar with Android. I also think the fonts, etc would be a bit too small for them.
Are there any Themes, overlays, etc that would make things easier to use on android?
Hmm, it's geared more towards a phone but have you looked at Big Launcher in the Play store?
Arvher2009, Android is very user-friendly, once you setup Weather widget and adds needed icon for them on the main screen, it cant be easier to use ^^

Also, take a look at the accessibility options in settings. There is an option for large text.....

It looks like HTC has found a way to integrate nicely with Windows Phone 7's hubs. The manufacturer is releasing something akin to an HTC Sense plug-in for Windows phone 7 that will integrate with it weather and other useful information. Ever since Windows Phone 7 was announced, HTC had been intent on bringing the Sense experience to the mobile platform, though there were early concerns that third-party UI overlays would not be permitted. Since then, we've seen concepts, and it looks like the recent demo is legitimate as the Sense experience was demoed on an HTC phone running Windows Phone 7 OS.

It looks kinda cool, but I can see the flying through clouds thing being annoying pretty fast.
That does look pretty funky.
i really hope that wp 7 could be installed on our hd2s!
Bearing in mind that I will be keeping my HD2 regardless of the next phone I get on upgrade next April, my choices are between Windows Phone 7 and Android (Hmmm).
If the above post and YouTube video is true, then the new WPS7 experience will be a treat. The standard interface alone looks via alive and fresh with the constantly update tiles, and I am pretty sure that any iphone4 user would be looking over your shoulder in evy.
I am not discounting Microsoft and the likes of HTC just yet to deliver a genius piece of kit just yet.
Anyone manage to get onlive working on their stock nexus 7, mine seems to hang at the screen provided. Doesn't seem to ever move past this screen... works great on my Galaxy Nexus

Any ideas?
Just now tried it, and was playing dark siders on it. Have you tried un installing and reinstalling? I'm sure you did, but just figured I'd ask just in case...

Works fine for me too - must be an issue with your device.

Onlive may not be around much longer. At least not in its current form.

They were bought out and put in a protective bankruptcy status that is similar to receivership. Their investors and the receiver/protector have huge vested interest in keeping onlive around. But settop boxes might go the way of the dodo.
Works for me

OK
So after locking and unlocking the boot loader again, and restarting from scratch onlive is working great
SHOW YOUR SCREENS!One Of the Best Parts about the modern(Or Metro)User interface of windows 8 is its amazing personalization Options. This thread is made to just generally compare screens.Post all the three screens.Start Screen,Lock Screen and the Desktop.

Tip: open Start, search for "Desktop icon", select the first result under Settings. It lets you put the "real" Computer icon on the desktop, rather than a shortcut.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to crap the thread, but where did you find those "amazing personalization Options"? To me, Metro UI is very limiting in terms of personalization. All that it is a background with showcase of apps that you have installed. You can do more even with very strict iOS (after jailbreak), and it is nowhere as flexible as Android or even a standard window 7 desktop (you can still customize win8 that way too and it will be much better showcase). Without any hacks for Metro UI personalization, this thread will be very boring.
And to prove the point, here are couple of examples of win7 desktops (can do the same in win8, not metro) - neither one of those is mine (just found using google):
Just wanted to show you what you're missing and hoping that hacks will come soon to metro UI
Really missing metro-folders, bigger and more informative tiles, tile shape changing etc...

Hi all,
I just got my Galaxy Note 10.1 yesterday, yes I know I am a little late to the game, but can you blame me...wow does this thing cost alot. Well I actually work in the wireless industry as an Analysis and also do alot of design/illustrations on the side. I have been rooting phones on the Android side since the G2/HD2 days, before then was sad to say it.....an Apple Fan boy. Thankfully the G2 saved my life
Anyways, if you devs out there ever need any banners or other graphic design/art let me know, always glad to help out with the talents that I have.
As far as the GNote goes, I bought it mainly to be a On the Go Drawing device with AutoDesk Sketchbook Pro which so far it meets my standards and i'm just loving it. Surprised with all the bad reviews out in the web with this device, honestly its most likely TouchWiz thats the sole fault on those.
Well, enough from me...see ya all in the forums.
Syn.
Nice of you to offer up your services

well this is a rather lengthy process, you also need root. I just need to know if anyone is interested or else I wont waste my time posting it.

Sure
If you have it working lets go.... I love sense
To be honest, I will get it and try it, but I won't stay on it. I prefer stock over anything else.

HTC sense 7 launcher is more stock then touchwiz. If you like touchwiz, the amount of time spending on this is not worth it.
To be clear:
You will lose live broadcast from camera, you will be using samsung galaxy s6 camera app (unless someone can change dpi of galaxy note 5 camera app to 640) you will bet less screen real estate due to dpi changing.
I would be interested not rooting for now. Not that I am worried about Samsung Pay, but if I resell this phone not being able to use Samsung Pay may degrade the value if Samsung Pay does catch on
Yea you need root, cause you have to edit build.prop

looks and feel just like an HTC phone, nothing more. it just involve a lot of step to make it work "right"
I plan on getting the HTC after the Huawei Nexus when the successor to the m9 comes out
