Root from HC or ICS? - Acer Iconia A500

I got an A501 today and it is still on stock HC 3.2. I'm definitely planning on using an ICS ROM on it. Would it be better to do everything as is now or let it take an OTA update first? Or does it even matter? Still trying to find my way around here.

Well, it tells me my tablet is up to date, but that can't be right.
Gonna read some more and try to figure out what my best option is.

Yea, I couldn't get the OTA anyway. It's all a little different over here from every other device I've ever used. I'm assuming that the Afterota tool will do everything I need for getting ready to flash a rom. Is that correct?

Not gonna happen right now. You'll just have to wait. The G2 isn't the easiest thing in the world to root in the first place, so its going to take a little time.
If you're ancy, just downgrade, and flash a pre-rooted stock OTA build.
Theres a way to root it already out for a while. Search cause that's what I used

I downloaded the rooted zip, did a backup, wiped and flashed. Couldn't have been easier.

2.3.5? Which one?
ahhh i think he is using official 2.3 update so he should be gen3 and till have to tpt back to gen2 so hw will get 2.2 and then can root.
I see. Yes, he should revert back to GEN2 and try a ROM based on the 2.3.5 update (Swedish Snow for example).
let me clarify all of it.....i figured someone woulda had a way to root without using a pc....just a app like z4root or androot....but for gingerbread.

That must be LR8 4.0.4
I have updated 2 days back on my stock ROM thread.
Qazi have u rooted ur gt-n7000.....if yes then which is the safe method
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Yes dr.ketan its LR8.
yes i have rooted my phone but it has the stock rom and kernel thats why i was able to get the update over the air. If u are already on custom rom then u should download the stock rom from dr.ketans rom page and flash it with clockworkmod recovery.

Stock ROM need to flash using Odin (PC/Mobile), it can't be flash with CWM.
Anyway LR8 is pack with new launcher and feature like LRQ or it having same old launcher?
Tw is the same. Popup play is added and signature unlock. The stock keyboard layout is slightly changed with a new button added for attatchments. The touch button at the right has a little different layout. Besides that everything is the same. Battery life is slightly decreased. I dont know if its coz my phone is 6 month old and battery is aged.

Dr.ketan i remember i once flashed the stock GB rom with cwm on ics stunner rom.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

Cwm supports zip only, fundamentally its not possible.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Thanks. I just used a few custom roma, like alba, criskelo ,cm9 and ics stunner. Since official ics came out i am using it. Dr.ketan i am unable to install cwm since 4.0.4. I have the cwm rom manager but itals not installing the cwm.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
CWM manager won't work on Note.
You need to flash custom kernel to get CWM
Hydracore and speedmod are known custom kernel for ICS
Thanks

[Q] Which ROM?

Hey, I'm new here and sorry for my bad English.
I want to Root my nexus 4 and as i have never used any ROM's, I want to ask couple questions.
Which ROM should i use?
I need a simple one because i don't need a fancy one because i wont use all of it features and stuff. I just need it to use couple programs that requires Rooted Phone.
So which ROM to use that wont kill my battery fast?
also someone told me that some ROM's keep nattery life bettet then non touched phone. Is that true?
Thanks in advance for your Help.
Cm10 would be a good one to start out with. Its very popular and quick and snappy. Used on many devices.

does root affect somehow on the battery life? does it make it better or worse?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
If you want to improve your device's battery life, then you should flash a custom kernel FIRST instead of choosing a custom rom

I prefer AOKP based ROMs with cherry picked CM features.
I don't like the battery icon options for AOKP though as CM percent Icon looks much nicer.

Try carbon. Carbon has the most amount of customizations with picks from cm aokp and has halo in the unofficial builds.

Simply rooting a device doesn't affect battery life. Rooting allows administrative rights to the device. That's it.

You don't need a kernel or ROM to root your phone. Most ROMs come with root. You need an unlocked boot loader and a custom recovery to root.

First you install adb platform-tools, unlock the bootloader and then inject superSU (root). Best way to unlock and root is to use CF-Auto Root imo, link http://download.chainfire.eu/297/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-mako-occam-nexus4.zip. Tutorial by efrant http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312&highlight=efrant.
Read up first about adb, rooting, kernels and custom roms before you kill your phone. Stock isn`t bad at all and learn about your phone .

How to root and load custom rom

I have a galaxy s4 on at&t and have been wanting to root and load a custom rom. I found the thread to load a root load a custom rom and by pass bootloader. I noticed at the top of the thread it has update and says with Build Number I337UCUAMF3 that it won't work. Does anybody know how to root and load custom roms for this build number or am stucking waiting for a work around. Thank you for any replys.
You're stuck waiting for a work around.
Could I use odin to roll back to i337ucuamdl?

With my Captivate (SGS1) and my SGS2 I flashed a new ROM every couple of weeks... with the SGS4, I love the stock ROM with some minor tweaks using Xposed.

Not rooted yet. Was thinking of it for wifi tether. But is rooting really worth it without being able to to unlock bootloader.

You can at least do more than what you can do now, with root, you can at least mod the rom your on.
