sorry forgot to mention im on 2.3.5 so no z4root will work
Sent from my N860 using xda premium
2.3.5? Which one?
ahhh i think he is using official 2.3 update so he should be gen3 and till have to tpt back to gen2 so hw will get 2.2 and then can root.
I see. Yes, he should revert back to GEN2 and try a ROM based on the 2.3.5 update (Swedish Snow for example).
let me clarify all of it.....i figured someone woulda had a way to root without using a pc....just a app like z4root or androot....but for gingerbread.

Just wondering if it will... and what would happen if I root my phone and a gingerbread update comes out? Will that be a problem with updating?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
You'll probably see a gingerbread rom faster rooted than an official update. Anything having to do with updating this phone is dependent upon getting it to work with sense.

We'll probably see CM7 before anything official comes out. Root away and have no worries.

The 7# is the release of android, froyo was 6, eclair was 5, donut was 4 and cm started on cupcake so 7 would be gingerbread

Hi there I just rooted last night so I'd be glad to help if I can!
Where are you getting stuck?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
You shouldn't actually be using ADB, you should be using fastboot. First off, are you on a mac or a PC?
Not trying to thread jack but maybe you guys can help me. I'd like to upgrade my phone to 2.3.3, root, and use the voodoo sound and colors. Any help? Thanks.

Superboot is easy but I've never been a fan of how it mods your kernel. If you are on a mac you can use the link to the mac rooting guide in my signature

Yes it does. It doesn't do anything noticeable but its just as easy to just root the regular way and there is nothing being modified.

Not gonna happen right now. You'll just have to wait. The G2 isn't the easiest thing in the world to root in the first place, so its going to take a little time.
If you're ancy, just downgrade, and flash a pre-rooted stock OTA build.
Theres a way to root it already out for a while. Search cause that's what I used

The title of this thread is "in need of stock rom"
NOT
"In need of stock rooted rom"
Stock IS UNROOTED and if you're looking for a rooted version of 2.2 or 2.3.3 go back to the main thread list and get the toolkit

How come I can update android 1.0 driver I installed the Samsung drivers
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I was able to unlock, root using this method and install superuser but none of the recoveries will stick. I have tried TWRP, Clockwork regular and touch and they will work once and then if I try to go back I just get the dead android guy? Is this a 4.0.4 problem?
Edit- I found the solution. I renamed the /system/recovery-from-boot.p to /system/recovery-from-boot.p-bak with root explorer and it fixed it.
I had the same problem and open the one click root script and found this line
adb shell mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.k-lined.sh
It worked for me.
