Google disables Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody knows what happens to your Nexus 7 after you reported lost/stolen? What does Google disables? How long does it take for Google to send you a new one?
Called Google and they say the 2 level department that handles losses usually takes 3-4 days for them to reply to you after you reply with "I CONSENT" which authorizes Google to disable your previous device. I am on day 4 so far nothing...
What exactly are they going to disable if never received it?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app

not 3g,no imei, how can they disabled it.
Mac address maybe. But its easy to change with Mac changer....

Why are you worried or curious as to what or how they'll disable a N7 that you don't have? I wouldn't care what disabling a N7 I didn't have entailed. Just curious.

Maybe it was linked to his/her account?

How could it be linked to their account when it never made it to their hands? Google shipped it but they never received it.

Linked to your account in terms of your email address for purchase history with the play store only.Google doesn't put anything on the device that would link you to it.

Mine too was linked to my account when I bought it

what do you mean by "linked"? It was "linked" before you even turned it on to sign in to your gmail? It already knew who you were before doing anything? Linked how?

There is an option when you checkout asking you if you want it linked to the account you checked out on. If you select yes they do add your account to the device before you get it.

The email account is setup and presumably all the apps are setup (saving you a few seconds maybe). It does still ask for the password before you can use it though.

Well when I buy a new phone/device and sign in to my Gmail all my apps start downloading and my account was never linked until I signed it.. Isn't that just the "way" it is?

I honestly don't know.
All I know is that the N7 I got from play store I checked the box to link to my account, the one I got from Curry's obviously didn't have the option.
The only difference between the two is that I had to enter my password into the linked one and had to enter my email and password into the not linked one. I could not see any difference whatsoever besides.

Ok, that's cool...thanks for the explanation. I'm seriously just trying to understand what's the big deal about Google disabling a device that I never received. Maybe the op did have the account linked....but I honestly can't see Google having that big of a security issue open by sending out devices that are linked already....for situations like this where the device doesn't get to the owners hands in delivery.

[Q] Suddenly I also own a GT-N7000?

I received my Nexus 7 today and promptly got it activated with my Google account, all is well. But now when I go to Google Play from my desktop computer so I can queue app downloads, suddenly I have an extra device listed in my available devices. Specifically, I now have a T-Mobile Samsung GT-N7000 listed, a.k.a. the Galaxy Note (which technically isn't even available yet).
Anybody else get this? I'm a bit worried that my account has been compromised.
Edit: I'm not worried about my account anymore. I looked up the device in my Play account and noticed that it was activated on July 5th, but there's been absolutely no usage history for it. The "Last used" area shows up as blank. I'm guessing that one of my existing devices must have triggered it with one of the custom ROMs I was using, but I'm not sure. Still, it's crazy behavior to see.
Congratulations!
But seriously, I would change my password and remove the device just to be safe.

Amazon broken under 4.2 ?

Since updating to 4.2 I now have to login on the Amazon App Store every time I use the app... And every time I use an Amazon purchased app...
Before 4.2 it strayed logged in...
Any thoughts?
Are there any new settings in 4.2 that control / affect login preservation?
Thanks

I had same problem and thats one of the many i had with 4.2, its complete junk and should never have been released, I used mskip toolkit to revert back to 4.1.1, its easy other than losing all your data and having to redo everything, but its better than a bug ridden os

The last I checked, it was up to third party app developers to revise their apps to keep up with what is essentially a major update to the OS and not the other way around. The bugs that I've encountered thus far are attributable to third party apps.

I'm not going to argue about this again, but Googles own stinking apps would not even work with the update, like the YouTube app, current and Gmail crashed so ya im not buying that. Why can't you people just admit, they screwed up? Die hards or you must work for Google.

In the history of OS upgrades, this is the first time programs/apps have crashed on release of an OS update/upgrade. Never has a program failed under a Windows/DOS update/upgrade, the Mac's OS, or UNIX, the Atari's OS or the Amiga OS, the Heathkit H8 running CPM...a CompuColor II. Nope.... This crash stuff has never happened until Android.

No ideas on the issue but wanted to confirm I am seeing the same issue. And every time I log in it is adding another device to my Amazon account. After reaching 25 registered devices you have to go to your account and deregister devices in order to allow the new login.

LOL. You may want to get some professional help for those paranoid delusions. Rest assured that not everyone who disagrees with your opinion is either a die hard or works for Google. On the contrary, it's simply a matter of applying some basic critical thinking skills and arriving at a conclusion supported by rational, valid premises.

Yes, and one of the major problems with this is I already have a few android devices and try to manage them from a PC. It's now impossible because when I try to push a purchase to my N7 Android, I can't retrieve it because i have to log into Amazon from the N7 again and it registers as a new device which is no longer matched by the pushed purchase.
The Amazon App Store also did this to me when the bootloader was unlocked in 4.1.2 - when I locked it the problem cleared up - then when I did the update to 4.2, the problem came back... Very frustrating...

Shees people, it is not that hard.
If you are having problems with the app store, just uninstall it and reinstall it.
That does NOT work, I've tried it twice. A factory reset will probably fix it, but no plans to do that.... will wait for Amazon fix, although getting very impatient (why did I ever set such a long complicated password) Never rooted, just OTA update.

Just to make sure I was not blowing smoke:
After installing the updated Amazon App store, I did have to log in - once.
I also had to indicate which credit card on my account would be used for purchases.
Subsequent use of the app did not require me to log in again, until I power cycled.
Then I had to log in again. Credit card was remembered.
I downloaded the free app of the day before power cycling, and another free one after.
Both downloaded and installed fine. They work too.
Except for having to log in again after power off, everything works as expected with 4.2.
App version is 2.6.53 (found on settings within App Store).
... hey, I'd be careful doing a factory restore; the official Amazon app is unavailable from Google Play for us 4.2 users.

I think you're one of the lucky ones. I can log in, can look at account balance, got free app of the day... but it automatically logs off about once every hour or two. If I'm logged in, then I turn off wifi, none of my Amazon apps will work (says I need to log in). Turn on wifi, Amazon is still connected (for a little while), and apps work fine. Once it disconnects (even on wifi) any app I try gives a log in message.
So far logged in 5 times today. Looking at my account on a PC, I have 6 Nexus 7 devices (from today). Not rooted, normal OTA update. I think you were one of the lucky ones!
edit: I just looked and I have 12 registered N7's... got rid of the 11 oldest ones... no help. I decided to delete all 12 and have them send a new apk via email. Just installed and logged in. Will report back when/if it disconnects.
edit2: Only took 30 minutes to ask for sign in again. Adds device on every sign-in.

Grumble - I just logged onto Amazon on my PC. App store shows 4 registered Nexus 7s.
That qualifies as broke... Also shows I don't use the Amazon App store much.
How do we notify Amazon?

The official Amazon app has been "incompatible" with the N7 since day one, regardless of version since we lack a forward camera. The workaround is to either sideload the apk, or installing from the Amazon appstore.

Corrected when I called Google they said that there's no way to do this because of some copywriting issue. That doesn't make sense at all since they have verified I am the same owner of both gmail accounts. So I just put my old gmail back on the phone and turned off everything from syncing so that I can just use it for the Play Store.

I had a similar issue, and I'm not sure exactly how it got fixed. Here's what I did.
1. Factory reset
2. Setup phone with new gmail
3. Add old account
4. Go to my apps in the play store and select the old gmail.
5. Download all apps
6. Remove old account from phone.
I followed these steps on my phone and all apps paid and free work fine with my new gmail.

More details, better description please
There is a password to a website, Facebook to be exact on my works on the Samsung browser. I have the email address which is used to login but not the password. But somehow it works even through the password was changed. So it must be somehow cooked in the system. I need to find out what the password is.

Well, you're not a "new" user, so that makes the thread less fishy. But still a little fishy.
But your description is fishy and making it hard for me at least, to understand WTF is going on.
Are you missing the password for the email address or for the facebook account? If for the facebook account, then can't you just have them email you a reset password to your email account?
And if it's the email account you're missing a password for, then you're screwed unless you ever gave that email account a SECOND email account that a reset password could be emailed to.
Anyone who tries to help you "recover" a lost password would be:
1) Foolish unless you're some sort of code "god". Because it's damn near impossible, if not totally impossible.
2) Foolish because it's a total security risk. Maybe he's a stalker trying to get his ex-wifes password. Probably not, but you never know.
Good luck, hope you get it figured out.
It sounds like he is saying that he changed his Facebook Password but the browser is still automatically logging in without him telling it the pasword.
It may not really be logging in just he never logged out. My browser let me in straight away.

If you have already changed the password, then why in gods name would you pay $200 for the old one? Just log out, then log back in with the new password. Problem solved. Old password will be disregarded due to the change of session. The only possible reason you would need the old password is either curiosity, or its not your account. Other than that, the old password is absolutely useless.
Something smells fishy in this thread.....
@rebel
I don't need the old password.. I'm trying to figure out the new one.. Or perhaps it just never logged me out from the old one that's a good point. But I would assume somehow it would know I don't have the new password and kick me off. The reason I want to figure this out is I'm stuck to this phone if I want to continue access.. No new roms and I'm a flashaholoc. I understand this is a strange request and there is speculation as to my intentions.. But my bounty is legit.. $200 to anyone who can figure this out.

If you need to know your own new password but don't remember it. Reset your password via reset password link and set yourself a new password. While at it go to settings, applications, all apps, find the stock browser, clear data and cache. Facebook will no longer be active via no previous logins anymore. Start fresh, same device, same Facebook, new password.
There should be no reason as to why you can't reset your own Facebook password if you seriously just set a new one. I had a friend try this once to try and get a girlfriends password.

My recommendation and maybe the easiest (cheapest!) and perhaps proper solution is to simply reset your Facebook password again and go through all your connections and update the password again. No need to go through a hassle to crack your own forgotten password. I've forgotten many passwords and had to reset more times than I want to remember (it's always the password I did not log in my password program too
On the other hand, asking folks here if they can decrypt your (old) password that was saved in browser is already evoking some unpleasant questions -whether your intention and situation is above board or not. It's kind of an unnecessary hassle for you, too!
There are sites that focus on cracking passwords and all that, but I have not seen XDA threads focused on that -might be, but I don't know.
XDA folks who are happy to create roms, figure out bootloader exploits and other helpful things that make us all happy with our phones and tablets are pretty much honest and above board. When requests seem strange -well, you've see the reaction already. :good::good:
Good Luck
There's no other password. You just have a cookie telling Facebook you're still logged in. Clear cookies and cache and you're done.
duplicate thread?

What puzzles me -and does raise a question is that this thread request of yours seems to be the same question you asked in a thread you started on 23rd July 2013, 12:21 PM. Is this the same situation unresolved? Or, is it another password from another program??
I had looked at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43881656#post43881656
That fishy smell is getting stronger.
