[Q] Cannot root my ZTE Blade - Blade General

I'm following the guide on the wiki using ADB (I can't post links yet, so here it is, wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/ZTE_Blade_(Gen2):_Root_and_Recovery), but when i come to the port where it should say '#' in ADB Shell, it doesn't! I am doing exactly like it says and it's finding my device.
Code:
List of devices attached
P729_GENERIC device
Could someone tell me what i'm doing wrong? I have installed the ZTE drivers that pops up the first time i connected my blade, but i had to reinstall it some minutes ago to make it show up in ADB.
One thing i should mention is that when i'm at the step when i should do "chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin", it doesn't say anything. Now, i assumed this was supposed to have happened, but am i doing something wrong?
Edit: I have a Gen2 blade and it's running on Android 2.3.5

Umm, you'll need to have root access to get to # (which is the root delimiter)
Anyway, if you're running 2.3.5 stock you don't have a gen2 phone, you have a gen3 phone (none of the methods for rooting it that work for gen2 will work for gen3 except windows flasher). If it came with that ROM stock you have a stock gen3 phone and you can forget about using gen2 tpt's on that, all that remains is to use the windows flasher for gen3. If you upgraded your phone to gen3 by installing any rom newer than Froyo then you can use any gen2 tpt.
To make sure, get blade checker from market and run it, tell me what gen you have.

Actually, it's a gen2 phone as i got it with 2.1 (or 2.2, can't remember), which i later updated as the 2.3.5 version got released. Ask Mr Pigfish says i have a gen2 phone.
Also, i'm rooting my phone using another guide, which is working so far. I will report back after i've finished this.
I'm using this guide: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319257
Edit: I have successfully installed ClockworkMod

It appears Ask Mr Pigfish doesn't support gen3 phones, so i used Blade Checker, which does say my phone is gen3. Does that mean i can't root my phone?

Only by using the windows flasher, the exploit available in the earlier gens isn't available for gen3 and that is a GOOD THING.
So what you do is that you head over to this thread: http://www.modaco.com/topic/339048-guide-flashing-firmware-to-bladelibra-via-windows/
Download the gen3 version and follow the instructions.
Rather than to download and install that old version of CWM though i suggest that you download mine from the thread in the development forum for blade.
It'll work just fine and then you can install whatever ROM you want on it, if you still want the original ROM only there is a way to do that too, get back to me if you don't want a better ROM than stock.
My recommendation is Swedish Snow RLS7 you can find it on Modaco, install by CWM. It's the closest you'll ever get to perfect on GB.

I haven't tested the guide yet because the clockwork recovery file says it's for gen2, would it work anyway? Also, the restore stock recovery files contains a gen1 and gen2 recovery file, but no gen3. Will gen2 stuff work the same with gen3, cause I don't want to end up with a bricked phone!

Well? Does those gen2 things work for my gen3 phone?

Use Stock Gen3 (md5:3f3cc4b6b45fac19bdcbe3bd8b380445) in that thread and the restore stock recovery works fine.
The problem isn't with gen2 recoveries or roms bein incompatible, it's with partition layout being incompatible. That's why you should only use this method of flashing and only the Stock Gen3 (md5:3f3cc4b6b45fac19bdcbe3bd8b380445) package.

Thanks dude, I have successfully rooted my phone now!
I only have one problem, i'm not getting any service :/
I have seen people having problems with this as well, I know that it's something about the IMEI number, which is empty / "unknown".
Do you know how to fix this? :S
Edit: I'm pretty sure this is because Swedish Snow RLS7 is for Gen2, but I might be wrong about that. Is there a Gen3 Swedish Snow?
I'm using this rom, www.modaco.com/topic/350875-romgen2-swedish-snow-rls7-android-235/

Yeah, you'll need the mmhp gen3 patch. You can find it over om modaco.

[Q] Atrix Stock andriod question

Hi
I am new to Andriod, I just bought a Atrix from someone which came with the cyanogenmod 7. I was able to install Google market, however I am not sure how to restore to stock, atleast for now I want to restore to stock get more comfortable with it and then install custom rom
I downloaded the drivers off motorolla, when I plug-in into usb it is not reconized. I also downloaded the roms posted on the motorolla website and tried installing the different version ( gingerbread and froyo) but I got error code 7.
If anyone can explain me in lament terms what would be needed to be done to restore to factory, I would greatly appreciate. I do not teether or need hot-spot for now, so will do custom little later..Thanks
Also I checked, there were no backup, so can restore off backup.
Install ROM Manager from Market, flash CWM with it. Then download a fruitcake from XDA dev section to your phone. Finally open ROM Manager and install it, be sure to check both wipes when you get prompted to do so by ROM Manager
Easiest way
would be to install a similar ROM such as Alien 4 without the theme. It looks and works almost exactly the same way as the stock ROM but with added goodies such as Tethering (all you have to do is turn it on to make it work) and the Droid 3 camera app which allows you to record video in 1080p. Just download the zip file into the memory card and flash it and you should be good. Let me know if you need assistance
Just a sidenote, you asked for "stock Android"... CM7 is as close as you are going to come (at this moment) to what we call "vanilla" or even "stock" ANDROID. I understand you want stock MOTOBLUR, but that is far from stock Android.. I thought I would point that out to you jic.
Sorry for the confusion for stock android I mean motoblur gingerbread. I meant the one which ships with the phone and since Motorola came out with gingerbread update I would like to have that installed.
Someone I was talking to today said if you root you device and try going back, device will brick, is there risk involved in this process?

you're being misinformed, rooting your device poses no risk. all rooting does is give your device root access to system files.
however, if you do the Gingerbread OTA update through Motorola, you're going to end up stuck on Gingerbread. if you attempt to RSD flash a .sbf file to downgrade, you will break your device.
however, you can install a froyo fruit cake to downgrade to Froyo if you don't like Gingerbread.
just look at the top of this forum and read the noob thread, it has all the information you need. after reading it, read it again. and after that, go into the development forum and read all of the stickies there. after that, go and read the noob thread again and then you should have all your questions answered.

[Q] Rooting, Upgrade, ROMs etc.

hey!
I'll be getting my X5 u8800 black this monday.
it comes stock 2.2
and i have had an iphone for quite some time, so im very outdated on the android systems.
Is there a complete guide for this phone on how to root, upgrade, which roms are best etc.? I tried browsing the android development forums, but wasnt very successful in finding too good answers.
My intention anyhow is to get ICS on it(if it's working yet?) and/or possibly install other cool ROM's. Remembering fondly CM with my x10 mini, this would probably where i would start. battery improvement seems to be a must on this phone for my use, and i guess there are rom, apps etc. that are great at these tasks.
if anyone could point out where to look, or where to be reading, i'd be extremely happy.

I have latest version of Aurora ICS (2.02) and everything I need for phone is working, but as we all can read from the dzos topic there still are some bugs.
is there a working guide for the 2.2?i need to get a new sd card before upgrading to 2.3, but i would like to root it now anyhow
i tried the guide for 2.3. and superoneclick claims it to be working, but no SU command pops as one would expect. it does not show in root check, root explorer and other root checking devices either...

Did you follow exactly the specified steps?
Maybe you didnt enable log? or maybe you enabled the usb cable to the PC?
I am only asking cause you might have slipped a step and noone else had any problem using this guide

didnt work with superoneclick, but managed to root it with superboot from modaco
So,
I followed the guides for rooting, installing cmrecovery, and installing aurora.
stuck on aurora bootscreen now...for about 20 minutes...what to do!

Did you wipe data/factory reset, cache partition and dalvik(this one is in advanced subfolder) before installing aurora.zip?
All of these should be wiped in first time. When you upgrade 2.0x to the newer version then only cache and dalvik needs to be wiped.
It's imperative that you upgrade to the official 2.3 version from Huawei before installing any ROM based on the 2.6.35 Linux kernel. Note that there are several 2.3 updates due to severe bugs in the earlier ones. Also note that only some of them come with an unlocked bootloader. You'll make your own life easier if you get one of those, as you won't have to root the system first then (in fact, you don't need to root 2.2 before installing CWM on it), only enter the pink screen and copy CWM over. As far as I know, the B518 update is the latest you should install. Get it from R4DK0's mirror: http://qrac.zapto.org/Stock%20ROMs/U8800V100R001C00B518G001%20(Beta1.0)(Overseas%20Normal)(Gingerbread).zip
Install that (copy dload folder to SD card, turn off phone, hold volume up+down + power), then download one of the 2.3 CWM recoveries, 5.0.2.7 or 5.5, and install that. Now you can flash any 2.6.35 based ROM, including Aurora.

Help rooting U8800 pro (2.3.5)

Hello guys.
I have purchased U8800 pro two days ago and decided to do some modding here
The phone came with 2.2.2. I managed to root it with SuperOneClick 2.3.
After that I installed CWM 5.0.27 and tried some ICS roms.I liked aurora but I had one problem. When the screen switched off,the phone would reboot after 2,3 seconds....
I recovered via CWM to 2.2.2 and installed the official 2.3.5 rom (build 540g).
I installed 2.3.5 because I have read here in the forums that this rebooting was done because I went straight from 2.2.2 to 4.0.3(don't know if it's true,i'm completely noob).
Anyway,I tried rooting my phone now with 2.3.5 but I can't.
I tried with SuperOneClick(2.2 and 2.3,setted the exploited both to auto and zergRush),with doomlord tool but yet no success.SuperOneClick gets stuck at step 7 and then is says not responding.DoomLord Tool outputs a lot of errors that I don't have permission to write in the filesystem and stuff.
I run both programs with Windows 7 64bit and by right click and run as admin.
Still no success.Tried to restore to factory defaults (with 2.3.5 still there) but yet again the programs don't work).
Of course i have enabled usb debugging, turned log switch one, dump & log turned all on options, enabled non market applications to install....the usual stuff I found in the guides here but still I can't root it.
Also the pink screen no longer works. With 2.2.2 I was able to replace the recovery img and get CWM,but after 2.3.5 the computer no longer finds the phone when in pink screen mode.I also tried all of the above in a laptop with windows 7 64bit.
All drivers installed and updated according to device manager.
Well guys? What can I do? Is is a good idea to try to revert back to 2.2.2 and root from there? I really want my U8800 Pro to have an ICS
Anyway,sorry for the long post.
Hope you can help me.Thanks in advance!
Hi,
I think you flashed the B540 ROM. Flash B512 (yes, you can downgrade; there's no block) and you'll be able to use the pink screen mode (and zergRush will also work)
EDIT: Glad to hear it worked!
Do I follow the same procedure as the one I followed to upgrade to 2.3 from 2.2?
(the step 1,step 2 folders ->dload folder in internal sd with update.app and update_g.app etc etc)?
edit: it seems that the procedure is the same.downgrading right now and I will post the results
edit2: You are the best qwerty12!!!
Thank you very very very much sir!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are awesome! I finally rooted my phone with superoneclick 2.3 and zergRush exploit selected.
Thanks again!

Is it bricked?

I originally followed this:
http://www.modaco.com/topic/341011-ultimate-guide-to-the-huawei-u8800/
and rooted the phone
Then I followed this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
and I read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492957
I thought that the phone had 2.3.5 on, and then after a while (After I flashed the new zip file), I realised that it only had 2.3.3 on and it won't get past the Huawei screen ie: it's stuck
I backed up the current ROM, but I've no idea on what to do now that it's bricked. I've tried fixing permissions, connected via USB and using the "adb logcat" command when I got the reply
/sbin/sh: exec: line 1: logcat: not found
And it's just stuck at the boot screen. Just wondering if any one can help?

I haven't the foggiest as to why my last post didn't go through. Any way, I did do that and I tried to restore my current ROM as well - remember it hasn't had the 2.3.5 update
On another note, my post also serves as a "hello" post considering that I didn't realise that I had an account here with zero posts until recently. I must have made it a while ago so hello

That's not a bricked people. A bricked phone is one that does not turn on no matter what, does't react in any shape or form, no screen, no vibration, no sound, no led when plugging usb or charger, no pink mode, no pc access to the phone, no nothing.
Your phone goes to huawei loading screen! How is that a bricked phone? Just reflash The ROM and do triple wipes. Search the forum for that.
flash stock rom. 2.3 or 2.2
not bricked
i can trustly say that it's not bricked, a brick phone means "unusable hardware tools"
the implementation that you explained can not cause a brick operation, you only have to teach your phone to work - that its possible to install the original stock rom.
original stock rom images also contains hubbable hardware working scripts and images.
so you can get your system back and also imei.

Thanks for that. I'll go off to search for a stock ROM
EDIT: Which stock ROM do I use?
http://coraldrive.net/users/androidz/583/u8800 stock roms
Once I've got the correct ROM, then I'll probably follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011527
I'm putting that link in, to help others and in case I can't find it. I'm from the UK if that helps
So today, I loaded the general overseas version stock ROM and formatted the Micro SD card to FAT32 and it loaded with android 2.2 on it (yay)
However, I can't download the official 2.3 ROM because the Huawei site is having problems with it's server, and every file sharing site I've seen has deleted it for "copyright infringement" Why the hell Huawei even requested for it's removal, when it doesn't even work from their own site, I have no idea
So, just wondering if there's any kind people out there that can send us the official 2.3 ROM either by email or a public dropbox link, which can then be deleted?
Thanks
EDIT: I may have found something:
huaweidevice.com/worldwide/downloadCenter.do?method=toDownloadFile&flay=software&softid=NDQzNTg=
Just an update to show what I've now done, in case any one else has the same problem. Go here:
huaweidevice.com/worldwide/downloadCenter.do?method=toDownloadFile&flay=softw are&softid=NDQzNTg=
(XDA forums won't allow me to insert external live links just yet)
Download the file from there. Follow this guide:

Follow step 12 and onwards from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22682229#post22682229
I also deleted the dload folder, in case I accidentally revert it to stock ROM. I also had to run SuperOneBoot again because it was unrooted after I flashed the official ROM
To get clockword mod, go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
Once you've got clockword mod, a rooted phone etc... and if you follow the guide posted above, then you can also install custom ROM's on to your Huawei device

[Q] Stuck. Anybody have T-mo Froyo SBF and/or advice?

Hi All,
I picked up a Defy MB525 on ebay, mostlly to mess with but I need to use it as my daily driver for a while because I am buying a house and my money is tied up for that.
Anyway, it arrived with stock unrooted t-mobile froyo which I am sure you will all agree is unacceptable so i used framroot to root it and installed sndinit 2.3 and followed the instructions in the general section for installing KitKat. I followed the instructions including the note to update the phone to CM10 first which went fine. At one point, I had it running CM10.1 fine but when I installed KitKat, the phone got stuck at the boot screen. The instructions say that it is normal for it to take a long time and you will think you are stuck but I let it sit more than an hour. At that point I thought I was soft bricked so I went back and used RSD Lite to install the t-mobile eclair SBF on it, which is the only one I can find. All links to the Froyo SBF I can find are broken.
That is where I am stuck. When I try to install sndinit, I get no blue light on reboot and on the older versions and I get an SD mount error in the recovery.
I think the probably I am having are related to not having the Froyo firmware installed but when I try to install it the regular way, the phone reboots and I get the triangle with an exclamation point. As I said, I can't find the Froyo SBF. The links I can find are broken and I don't think it is listed here, which is where I found the eclair sbf:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=27
My questions are:
Does anyone know where to find the most recent t-mobile sbf file? Do you think that is my problem? If not, what is?

I figured this out if anybody needs to know. I had to do a full system reset then restore the eclair sbf so that the phone is in the exact state it was in out of the box. Then the OTA install worked fine. I am still working on getting KitKat installed. It seems like I need to find the right combination of recovery and rom to get 10.1 installed.

To install KK, root, 2ndinit, then go to recovery and flash this and reboot - http://d-h.st/dWr. Then after reboot, go back to recovery (don't go back to the system). Then flash this - http://d-h.st/dz8 and immediately flash KK and gapps.
