Help rooting U8800 pro (2.3.5) - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hello guys.
I have purchased U8800 pro two days ago and decided to do some modding here
The phone came with 2.2.2. I managed to root it with SuperOneClick 2.3.
After that I installed CWM 5.0.27 and tried some ICS roms.I liked aurora but I had one problem. When the screen switched off,the phone would reboot after 2,3 seconds....
I recovered via CWM to 2.2.2 and installed the official 2.3.5 rom (build 540g).
I installed 2.3.5 because I have read here in the forums that this rebooting was done because I went straight from 2.2.2 to 4.0.3(don't know if it's true,i'm completely noob).
Anyway,I tried rooting my phone now with 2.3.5 but I can't.
I tried with SuperOneClick(2.2 and 2.3,setted the exploited both to auto and zergRush),with doomlord tool but yet no success.SuperOneClick gets stuck at step 7 and then is says not responding.DoomLord Tool outputs a lot of errors that I don't have permission to write in the filesystem and stuff.
I run both programs with Windows 7 64bit and by right click and run as admin.
Still no success.Tried to restore to factory defaults (with 2.3.5 still there) but yet again the programs don't work).
Of course i have enabled usb debugging, turned log switch one, dump & log turned all on options, enabled non market applications to install....the usual stuff I found in the guides here but still I can't root it.
Also the pink screen no longer works. With 2.2.2 I was able to replace the recovery img and get CWM,but after 2.3.5 the computer no longer finds the phone when in pink screen mode.I also tried all of the above in a laptop with windows 7 64bit.
All drivers installed and updated according to device manager.
Well guys? What can I do? Is is a good idea to try to revert back to 2.2.2 and root from there? I really want my U8800 Pro to have an ICS
Anyway,sorry for the long post.
Hope you can help me.Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I think you flashed the B540 ROM. Flash B512 (yes, you can downgrade; there's no block) and you'll be able to use the pink screen mode (and zergRush will also work)
EDIT: Glad to hear it worked!

Do I follow the same procedure as the one I followed to upgrade to 2.3 from 2.2?
(the step 1,step 2 folders ->dload folder in internal sd with update.app and update_g.app etc etc)?
edit: it seems that the procedure is the same.downgrading right now and I will post the results
edit2: You are the best qwerty12!!!
Thank you very very very much sir!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are awesome! I finally rooted my phone with superoneclick 2.3 and zergRush exploit selected.
Thanks again!

[Q] Trying to install ANY OFW fails

Hi guys I'm sorry to inconvenience you all but I have a problem that 2 hours of searching has failed to solve. I know you guys on xda-devs are awesome and respond quickly!
I bought a Dell Streak 02 with 16gb class 2 microsd today.
It has android 1.6 build 3883.
I rooted it with superboot (and i'm pretty sure it was sucessful, typing su in a terminal works).
I then looked into installing custom roms (first thing I do when I buy any PDA/Phone)
I decided that Froyo would be a good idea because I want to have a look at some multitouch apps and use skype.
I found the guide on here, installed the 4399 recovery successfully, downloaded the official latest 2.1 update and renamed it update.zip, booted into recovery and clicked the camera button. The familiar installing logo came up (i've rooted 5 android devices)
then after around 15-30 seconds it says the file was bad.
I've had this when a file fails to download properly, so i downloaded the file again, no look.
tried renaming it Update.pkg instead of update.pkg, no luck.
Tried downloading other packages, earlier leaked builds, even the 4399 1.6 ROM. all have had the same problem.
I tried a few different MicroSD cards, and no luck...
I don't know where to go from here. Please help me, i've googled and searched for quite a few hours now!
Thanks in advance

i also have the same problem and there is no guide showing how to get from O2 1.6 baseband 3883 to 2.1 etc so if anybody with baseband 3883 has managed to do so could you please assist, would be very greatful.
*i have been able to root using universal androot but either creating a revovery image or being able to update to 2.1 and thus 2.2 has eluded me

It doesn't show how to upgrade from 1.6 to 2.1
I figured it out anyway.
Install a custom recovery for 1.6.
flash a 1.6 update.zip (4399)
install 4399 recovery
install 2.1 update
you know the rest.
I don't think a 3883 rom will work with the 4399 recovery for whatever reason.
Thanks for the help anyway Finally got froyo working!

[Q] Rooting, Upgrade, ROMs etc.

hey!
I'll be getting my X5 u8800 black this monday.
it comes stock 2.2
and i have had an iphone for quite some time, so im very outdated on the android systems.
Is there a complete guide for this phone on how to root, upgrade, which roms are best etc.? I tried browsing the android development forums, but wasnt very successful in finding too good answers.
My intention anyhow is to get ICS on it(if it's working yet?) and/or possibly install other cool ROM's. Remembering fondly CM with my x10 mini, this would probably where i would start. battery improvement seems to be a must on this phone for my use, and i guess there are rom, apps etc. that are great at these tasks.
if anyone could point out where to look, or where to be reading, i'd be extremely happy.
This is the best topic there is about ICS in huawei U8800:

I have latest version of Aurora ICS (2.02) and everything I need for phone is working, but as we all can read from the dzos topic there still are some bugs.
is there a working guide for the 2.2?i need to get a new sd card before upgrading to 2.3, but i would like to root it now anyhow
i tried the guide for 2.3. and superoneclick claims it to be working, but no SU command pops as one would expect. it does not show in root check, root explorer and other root checking devices either...

Did you follow exactly the specified steps?
Maybe you didnt enable log? or maybe you enabled the usb cable to the PC?
I am only asking cause you might have slipped a step and noone else had any problem using this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1420728
didnt work with superoneclick, but managed to root it with superboot from modaco
So,
I followed the guides for rooting, installing cmrecovery, and installing aurora.
stuck on aurora bootscreen now...for about 20 minutes...what to do!

Did you wipe data/factory reset, cache partition and dalvik(this one is in advanced subfolder) before installing aurora.zip?
All of these should be wiped in first time. When you upgrade 2.0x to the newer version then only cache and dalvik needs to be wiped.
It's imperative that you upgrade to the official 2.3 version from Huawei before installing any ROM based on the 2.6.35 Linux kernel. Note that there are several 2.3 updates due to severe bugs in the earlier ones. Also note that only some of them come with an unlocked bootloader. You'll make your own life easier if you get one of those, as you won't have to root the system first then (in fact, you don't need to root 2.2 before installing CWM on it), only enter the pink screen and copy CWM over. As far as I know, the B518 update is the latest you should install. Get it from R4DK0's mirror: http://qrac.zapto.org/Stock%20ROMs/U8800V100R001C00B518G001%20(Beta1.0)(Overseas%20Normal)(Gingerbread).zip
Install that (copy dload folder to SD card, turn off phone, hold volume up+down + power), then download one of the 2.3 CWM recoveries, 5.0.2.7 or 5.5, and install that. Now you can flash any 2.6.35 based ROM, including Aurora.

Is it bricked?

I originally followed this:
http://www.modaco.com/topic/341011-ultimate-guide-to-the-huawei-u8800/
and rooted the phone
Then I followed this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
and I read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492957
I thought that the phone had 2.3.5 on, and then after a while (After I flashed the new zip file), I realised that it only had 2.3.3 on and it won't get past the Huawei screen ie: it's stuck
I backed up the current ROM, but I've no idea on what to do now that it's bricked. I've tried fixing permissions, connected via USB and using the "adb logcat" command when I got the reply
/sbin/sh: exec: line 1: logcat: not found
And it's just stuck at the boot screen. Just wondering if any one can help?

I haven't the foggiest as to why my last post didn't go through. Any way, I did do that and I tried to restore my current ROM as well - remember it hasn't had the 2.3.5 update
On another note, my post also serves as a "hello" post considering that I didn't realise that I had an account here with zero posts until recently. I must have made it a while ago so hello
Hi, I didn't notice it because I use tapatalk.

That's not a bricked people. A bricked phone is one that does not turn on no matter what, does't react in any shape or form, no screen, no vibration, no sound, no led when plugging usb or charger, no pink mode, no pc access to the phone, no nothing.
Your phone goes to huawei loading screen! How is that a bricked phone? Just reflash The ROM and do triple wipes. Search the forum for that.
flash stock rom. 2.3 or 2.2
not bricked
i can trustly say that it's not bricked, a brick phone means "unusable hardware tools"
the implementation that you explained can not cause a brick operation, you only have to teach your phone to work - that its possible to install the original stock rom.
original stock rom images also contains hubbable hardware working scripts and images.
so you can get your system back and also imei.

Thanks for that. I'll go off to search for a stock ROM
EDIT: Which stock ROM do I use?
http://coraldrive.net/users/androidz/583/u8800 stock roms
Once I've got the correct ROM, then I'll probably follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011527
I'm putting that link in, to help others and in case I can't find it. I'm from the UK if that helps
So today, I loaded the general overseas version stock ROM and formatted the Micro SD card to FAT32 and it loaded with android 2.2 on it (yay)
However, I can't download the official 2.3 ROM because the Huawei site is having problems with it's server, and every file sharing site I've seen has deleted it for "copyright infringement" Why the hell Huawei even requested for it's removal, when it doesn't even work from their own site, I have no idea
So, just wondering if there's any kind people out there that can send us the official 2.3 ROM either by email or a public dropbox link, which can then be deleted?
Thanks
EDIT: I may have found something:
huaweidevice.com/worldwide/downloadCenter.do?method=toDownloadFile&flay=software&softid=NDQzNTg=
Just an update to show what I've now done, in case any one else has the same problem. Go here:
huaweidevice.com/worldwide/downloadCenter.do?method=toDownloadFile&flay=softw are&softid=NDQzNTg=
(XDA forums won't allow me to insert external live links just yet)
Download the file from there. Follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011527
Follow step 12 and onwards from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22682229#post22682229
I also deleted the dload folder, in case I accidentally revert it to stock ROM. I also had to run SuperOneBoot again because it was unrooted after I flashed the official ROM
To get clockword mod, go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
Once you've got clockword mod, a rooted phone etc... and if you follow the guide posted above, then you can also install custom ROM's on to your Huawei device
Thanks to the XDA people for providing these guides

Cannot root U8800Pro. SuperOneClick hangs at step #7

Hello,
I have a problem when trying to root my wifes U8800Pro. The SuperOneClick gets always stuck at step #7. I have done everything as instucted (enabled logging and usb debug, disabled fast boot, etc).
Before you say that I should search, this has been discussed before. Yes I know, I have searched and found couple threads, but they didn't help.
I'm guessing that the problem is that I have too new stock firmware? I had this in the phone originally:
u8800pv100r001c00b535
custnorc306d002
But now I downgraded (?) or upgraded to:
U8800Pro V100R001C00B512G001
And the SuperOneClick still isn't working. I don't know what to do. I can't find any older stock 2.3.5 firmwares and don't know if it would even help me if I could downgrade to some older version.
Could someone please help me how to root this phone. I have done Galaxy S before, but it wasn't this complex
BTW, the SD card stopped mounting when I flashed V100R001C00B512G001. I have to take it out and re-insert it to make it work every time.
I'll answer to my self. I don't know if all this is correct, but anyone can correct me if they want.
The stock roms can be rooted in various different ways. Most used options might be SuperOneClick and "pink screen" boot.img change.
SuperOneClick doesn't seem to work with at least newer versions of 2.3.5 at all. It's only usable in older stock roms.
Another option is using the "pink screen" method, with boot.img and it goes like this:
1. Power off, and then Power on with Vol + & - pressed to get to the Pink Screen.
2. Connect the phone to your computer with USB cable.
3. Browse the phone contents with your computer. You should only see one folder called "image". Go inside the folder.
4. Backup the boot.img file to your computer. You will deed it if you want to unroot / return to stock later.
5. Replace the boot.img with a rooted one. You have to find a boot.img specific to your firmware version. I haven't found one for 2.3.5. I'm not sure if they are different between U8800 and U8800Pro, but I guess they are.
6. Once done, detach the usb cable from the phone and restart it by taking the battery out and reinserting it.
You should have now rooted your stock firmware phone and you should see a Super User app in your app drawer.
But if you are going to load a custom firmware to your phone, there is no need to root the stock firmware. In this case you should use Clockwork Mod Recovery to load the custom firmware into your phone, because custom firmwares are already rooted.
It goes like this:
1. Power off, and then Power on with Vol + & - pressed to get to the Pink Screen.
2. Connect the phone to your computer with USB cable.
3. Browse the phone contents with your computer. You should only see one folder called "image". Go inside the folder.
4. Backup the recovery.img file to your computer. You will deed it if you want to return to stock later.
5. Replace the recovery.img with the CWM Recovery file. You need to make sure that you have the correct version for the rom that you are going to load. The needed version is usually mentioned in the rom description. I think the latest one is this: [Recovery] Unofficial CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7[u8800pro&u8800] (?)
6. Once done, detach the usb cable from the phone and restart it by taking the battery out and reinserting it.
7. You can now install custom roms with CWM Recovery by holding volume + and power to boot up your phone. Look at the install instructions of the rom you are going to install.
Be sure to backup your phone with CWM Recovery as soon as you have installed it in case anything goes wrong.
See how to create nandroid backups with CWM Recovery here.

I'm going to reply to this thread as this is kind of on topic... could someone more experienced answer at least some of the questions below, thanks.
Does anyone know where I could find stock firmwares for U8800Pro? I'm having hard time to find any even from Huawei's site. I only found this there and that says it's only usable in Russia.
I had this in the phone originally when I purchased it:
u8800pv100r001c00b535
custnorc306d002
Was that the newest stock firmware? Where can I find the newest one?
Is there a "rooted" boot.img for the latest stock firmware? Is the boot.img different for every firmware version? Is it different between U8800 and U8800Pro?
Is this the latest CWM Recovery and should I use that? I'm going to put some ICS rom in to the phone after I've tested the official demo version which is coming "soon" I hear.
I'll answer to my self once again..
Here's some stock firmwares for U8800Pro:
http://madmodder.co.uk/huawei/u8800-pro/huawei-u8800pro-firmware-list.htm
I guess the newest stock version is V100R001C00B572G001.
For the "rooted" boot.img I have no clue where to find one, or are they firmware specific or different between U8800 and U8800Pro.
As to the CWM, here's the official releases. There's no releases for U8800Pro, I don't know if it has different recovery.img as the U8800 has. I guess the one which I linked to is the latest "unofficial" version. Reading the comments seems to point that it works for some and some have problems. I guess that should be used still if you want to go for ICS rom.
Anyone care to comment on any of this?
I have the same problem i did every thing perfectly and i couldn't get to root my u8800 pro ... i tried super one click, z4root , easy root, unlock root , changing boot.img, ... i have my drivers installed correctly.. checked usb debugging.. disable fast boot....switched to logged on ( project menu ) and i still got stuck on step 7 on super one click.. another program mentioned.. ( adb server out of date.. ) and ( failed to copy superuser.apk due to system read only..) ... so I'm stuck now for 2 month..can any one help ???

HELP!!! I have 2 bricked Ideos X5!!!

Hello,
I have 2 Huawei X5 that were running DZO's aurora without any problems until a couple of days ago.
Sudenly one of them lost the sound during calls. To see if this was a hardware problem I tried to install a different rom, but I had no success. CWM doesn't accept any of the roms I tried (Miui and aurora). I also tried to downgrade this phone but after it gets to the installation screen it freezes.
The other phone, does not allow access to CWM and the only thing I can do is try to downgrade from the SD card. I already tried downgrading to 2.2 and 2.3 with no success.
When I connect any of the phones to the PC I cannot access the phones internal memory like I used to. This only happened after I installed aurora. Previously I also encountered problems downgrading from 2.3 to 2.2 and I managed to do it through the internal memory. I only had to put the dload folder there and reboot with vol up+vol down+power and the downgrade done normally. So now, since i can't do this, I'm completely clueless......
Do you guys think that the phone with access to CWM can be fixed by restoring a backup from another phone? If so can someone PLEASE be kind enough to send me one?
try updated drivers

Here are ics drivers. This may or may not work for you. You must boot into pinkscreen and restore the files after installing adb.
