COMPLETELY wipe nexus 7

I've been running into storage issues with my nexus 7 and would just like to completely wipe all data on my device and act like its day one again. What method would COMPLETELY wipe all data?
I'm currently rooted and running kaos Droid 3.7.3. Would a basic factory reset do the trick? I know I've had to do one before flashing this rom... but I still had left over data. The storage on my device doesn't add up to what is actually on there.

I guess you could format the whole thing if you want to COMPLETELY wipe it.

Do a factory install from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasi This will wipe everything.

Fastboot erase user data.
Should delete everything data related on the device.

he don't need that flash only to wipe the storage.there are less time consuming method

THIS like uber sad(but with userdata,not user data)..or at least a format data\internal in TWRP recovery that erase also data\media.i'm in the same boat with my gnex,and did this some hours ago

This is a old thread but i stumbled upon it today. I learned a lot from this and can now flash manually. Everything went pretty smooth.

[Help] Just formated everything

As the title says... i just formated my ****ing whole system
wanted to change roms and used this crazy complete cleanup script
didnt know that it would format EVERYTHING
so now im standing here with a phone with only a twrp recovery... no system no backups ... nothing
i somehow need to push a rom to my device and install it
problem is im totally blank when it comes to these adb shell things
could someone give me an advice how to get a file to my phone?
nexus toolkit doesnt work

So, assuming you can mount to your computer, download a ROM. Try the chemistry ROM? Or the stock rooted one. Whichever. Got to recovery, find the ROM and install it.
This is assuming you can mount with twrp. (Its in mounts)
In front of a live studio audience

If it won't mount, use adb to push the zip(s) to your internal storage.

it does not mount... and i somehow cant get adb to work

Try adb side load in twrp

Don't use a wipe script next time...
Even better, don't wipe at all. Just do a proper backup and dirtyflash.

Wow. Worst advice ever.
Next time, do a factory reset and wipe system. That'll do you and keep you from having those little issues that are caused by doing dirty flashes. Sometimes they work just fine. Others, they give you hell. It's one thing if you're upgrading between builds of the same ROM. Even then, though, it's a risk.

That's like saying never ever drive because if you steer into a pole, it's bad. Don't steer into things and it's fine. If the OP learns to correctly wipe, this won't be an issue ever again.

Don't wipe system....
Factory Reset/Cache/Dalvik -> Flash ROM.

I wipe cache, dalvik, factory reset, then wipe system every time I change Roms. I've done this for years on every android I've had and never had a problem. Don't wipe internal storage though.

On what? If I wipe data on TWRP I lose everything on SD. Wiping system wipes the system partition. There are many reasons I don't use CWM, poor backup locations and inefficient menu layouts are among them. If wiping system wipes the SD, I'll add that to the list.

TWRP all the way! Way better than CWM in my opinion.

Agreed. I would sacrifice an infant to get 4EXT Recovery Touch on thus baby. It has a "Format all partitions (except SD card)" option that is amazeballs.

ive done this before. to fix it you need to download the stock google nexus 4 image. google has taken it down from its webste but there are people here in the forums who have uploaded it to help and have other people download it.
now download and install the nexus 4 root tool kit
to fix your phone your are going to put your phone into fastboot mode and connect it to your pc.
then open up the nexus 4 root tool kit program.
next find the google nexus 4 toolkit folder and go into it. (mine saved in my local disk C)
go into the "put google factory image here" folder and drop the google factory image in there.
once thats done go back into the nexus 4 root toolkit program and press number 9 (download, Extract + flash Facotry image"
since you already downloaded it and put it in the factory image folder you're going to click option number 2 (flash google image)
then type yes and let it do its thing
make sure that the factory image that you download is in a .tgz or .tar file or else it wont work

[Solved]Factory Data Reset.

Here's the deal. I want to factory reset my nexus so I can remove the unlock pin. Question is I can't seem to really get an answer. If I do the factory data reset from the menu will I lose my data from the emulated SD card. According to the picture. I will, but I looked this up and according to some website and other xda members. I won't. Since I've only had this phone for about a month now and this is the first phone that I've had with a SD slot. I honestly don't know what will happen if I hit that reset button.

Back up your storage to a computer and see what happens. They only way I've been able to erase my data was formatting in recovery or locking then unlocking the bootloader.

Yes a factory reset will wipe all user data on the phone if done from settings/backup and restore/reset device. Backup files first.

The nexus 4 doesn't have an SD card slot. You will lose all data unless you've made a backup in recovery or on your computer. And yes, it will wipe the /sdcard folder.

But you know, i have done factory resets, wiped dalvic nd cache and unlocking bootloader but evrytime i so that, the files in my internal sd card were all still there and never was deleted.

But I'll just back things up on a PC and then attempt to factory reset.

Doing a factory reset in custom recovery will not wipe SD context
Unlocking the bootloader and rebooting will wipe everything
Unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom recovery then wipe cache and reboot will not wipe SD context

Just go to security settings and choose a different lock style !!! Unless you have forgot your pin ??
What recovery are you using ?
I have no issues doing.........
Go to settings and backup and reset option, choose the factory data reset.
Now this will wipe your user data and reset your ROM to how it was originally. This does NOT touch your emulated sdcard partition. Basically it resets the ROM and removes all user apps etc.
You can always use TB to back up all user apps 1st then just restore again after. ( obviously you will have to install TB again before you can restore but all data will remain on your " sdcard".

Mmmmm actually I am using twrp so maybe I got mistaken as I don't know how it handles on a stock recovery as it does boot into twrp briefly when I do this.
I've done this many times and never lost my sdcard files though.

Do you have an exchange account connected to your phone? Like an outlook email from work or something? A pw is required if you have that connected.

I have my other gmail synced on the stock email app. Uhm I'll try to delete my accounts but as you see in the last page. The picture I posted. "No Pin" is greyed out. Its odd. Never had this happen to me.

Well I'm not sure how the system handles a factory data reset with cwm but I know for sure that using the factory data reset from phone settings does not wipe your internal "SD card" when using twrp. Now be aware I'm not referring to any wipes from recovery,its the wipe from the phone settings in backup and reset.

Okay thanks guys for all the help! I think this thread is done. I flashed TWRP recovery and I Factory Reset in there and it wiped everything that I needed. I got rid of the lock screen and I also found out that TWRP is a pretty amazing recovery. In the end I kept all my data. Just restored apps by Titanium BackUp. Thanks!:thumbup:

Internal memory

I'm not sure if I'm just looking at this wrong but it shows I should have 13 GB of memory. Now what's confusing to me is that I barely used 5 gigs and now its saying I have less than three gigs of memory left. I did buy the 16 gig version. Can someone explain to me how come it showing this and if there is something wrong. Thanks

Did you do a backup via recovery? Mine was the same as yours until I deleted the backup (after 4.3 was installed and running).

Go into TWRP Recovery choose "Wipe" -> "Format Data" -> then type in "yes" -> "go"
After reset is finished restart the phone normally. That's it.

Lost Storage
I had the same problem. Tried several different methods to try to recover my storage. I too performed a format from TWRP and gained my storage back.

Guys, I have this problem.
My wife has a N7 32GB. Some months ago, after flashing some roms, I discovered that the N7 only had 16GB instead of 32GB. But in the meantime I never had the chance to "reformat" data partition or flash a factory image. Wife didn't want me to fomat it!!!
Today, I was finally going to do that, flash a factory image, but discovered that the usb connector is broken!!! The tablet charges ok but when I connect it to my pc, it starts to constantly connecting/disconnecting to it. I tried 3 different usb cables and the same with the 3. I even open the tablet and tighten the usb port, because it was very loose, but even then it still does the same. So, I don't have any chance to flash or send commands via my pc. (can I send them via wifi?! )
Can I just go into recovery and format/wipe data?!
By the way, from all the stories that I've seen from this problem, on bootloader, mine says Flo 32G and not 16GB like most of them. Can a simple wipe data do the job?!v Hope so...

When I installed 5.0.1 on my 2012 N7, about 10GB of my internal storage mysteriously vanished (I was getting disk full errors with only 2-3GB of stuff showing up in disk usage) and wiping the userdata partition fixed that.
I really do not like how half the fixes for Android issues tend to involve having to wipe devices, especially considering how there is no simple built-in method to do complete and timely selective backups and restore. To get anything resembling that functionality, you need to unlock the bootloader, root the device, install SU and a third-party backup tool. (Doing backups with TWRP might be easy but it is not selective and editing the tarball afterward can get messy.)

CWM doubt

Hey Guys, I have a Nexus 4 running on stock 4.3 rooted.
I copied the CM 11 M Snapshot files and using CWM wiped everything. as it turns out it also wiped my sd ext. Thankfully I had a backup and got all my data back. Is there a way so that it doesnt wipe the Sd ext? I had a Nexus S before this and it didn't get wiped everytime I flash :crying:

I understand his question just fine...
There is no "sd ext" on the current Nexus devices. It is simply called sdcard. The sdcard shouldn't be erased unless you format /data, because /sdcard is located at /data/media. In the future, just use factory reset in recovery and the sdcard won't be wiped.

I did the factory reset. But my entire media also got wiped. Although it doesn't happen with twrp. I guess I'll stick with twrp then. Thanks anyhow.

Impossible, wipe data/factory reset doesn't format sdcard. Under mounts/storage (if i remember right) you can just delete media files.
