So my dog decided to chew on my nexus and the screen is cracked from top to bottom and is unresponsive to touch...
Have any of you had any luck with finding replacement parts? All I have found was this guy and it just seems pretty sketchy to me... I also found replacement backs which I will probably get.
www.dfwpcrepairs.com/google_nexus_7__tablet_screen_repair.html
Have no problems doing the repairs myself just need the parts first...
I wouldn't trust the website, the cost of the screen repair is very high because asus have made it so that the LCD is glued to the digitizer making it cost a hefty $160 for Asus to repair it themselves.
Also I cracked my nexus 7 and sent it to knowhow coverage, they told me that it is impossible for them to get their hands on a screen.
Instead they're reviewing the problem and giving me a £200 voucher for currys and PC world.

Alright so I just need to stencil the ASUS logo then spray paint it on my dog?
Cool!
Guess I will wait a little bit and what comes around for fixing myself. May email ASUS and see If I can pay them to repair it (doubtful) or worst case senario I just buy another one.
Thanks Guys
I have been looking for Nexus 7 parts just in case something happens to one of my Nexus 7's and I couldn't find anything. ASUS will repair a broken screen for $170(US). It might actually be cheaper to buy a 8gb Nexus 7, harvest the screen and sell the rest of the parts on ebay. You may end up getting it for free if you can sell everything else off. The battery is Worth $40, The 8gb logic board is worth $99, front facing camera is $15, I/O cable(charging port and headset jack) is $15, Speaker is $15 and the charger is $15.
Is the bezel (silver lining around the screen) part of the screen also? Does that mean if i were to replaced a dented bezel, I have to replace the whole screen?

Unfortunately it is.
info
I just spoke with Asus eStore.
http://www.service.asus.com/infopage.aspx?rid=7#!consumer/csn9
Their web site lists nexyus 7 but has no parts listed.
http://us.estore.asus.com/
The person I spoke to said they do not sell the replacement screen and it would be via repair only. I was told the parts store will probably only carry chargers and cables.
I managed to get the part number of the screen it is: 90R-OK0M1L11000U (that is the letter "O" imediatly before the "K")
They had no record of who the (3rd party?) manufacturer of the screen is.
I strongly suggested they offer hte screen as a part for direct sale as the repair cost is approx the same as a new tablet, so not worth doing.
I STATED THAT THE PRESENT RESTRICTION MAKES ME QUESTION BUYING FUTURE ASUS PRODUCTS.
If enough people complain we may push them to sell replacement screen parts from their parts store.
The screen is made by Hydis model # HV070WX2. I still have not been able to find someone that has them in stock. There is a site I found that supposedly has 5k in stock for wholesalers.

would this by any chance void the warranty? my back pocket managed to crack the screen on one i JUST got from RMA. at this point i wouldnt mind buying a new one and keeping it around till replacement screens are actually plausible.
The screens are just starting to show up on the market. They are $160+. Almost easier to buy a new 8GB instead of a new LCD/Digitizer.
I'm hoping the price comes down with competition, but at this point there isn't any competition there's only few limited sources.

ASUS will service it for 202.00, ie: motherboard. They won't sell me a motherboard. They won't repair the one I have. Say they're not for sale, can't sell. I might as well just buy a new one. Last ASUS product I'll ever buy.
i would wait to see what they do with the 8GB with the discontinuing of them before buying screen. Like someone else said, use one for salvage if it is dirt cheap

If you're looking for a motherboard you can pick up cheap as-is nexus 7's on eBay all day. I bought one with a broken screen that 100% works. The crack is at the top near the camera and does not extend into the screen. I got it for less than $50. I know how lucky I got, I feel like I won the lottery.
You can get them as low as $30. Not bad to use the motherboard or even spare battery. Even the back case is worth that almost.

Yeah, I caught that. Only two on Ebay when I looked. $31.00 and 9.90. So definitely the route I'll be going.
Nexus 7 screen cracked
My nexus 7 32gb screen has cracked & I was wondering if any other screen would fit or does it need
To be an original cos of the digitiser?
I have not found the part I need for mine, boo! I need a usb slot for the damn thing, my son was playing with it and left it on the floor, little to no surprise, he was excited and walked away, came back and stepped on the cord part charging it, so now it wont charge.. the internal usb is all screwed up, its just on a little board that looks like its easy enough to replace once you get the board to replace it with.
@hazard1nc: Here ya go, seems to be a really good shop for replacement parts.
I'm going to buy a new mainboard and speaker for mine there
http://stores.ebay.com/Positive-Dreams-Electronics/
There are some usb/audio replacement boards, I think that's the one you want
Still wondering, why the usb/audio boards are so expensive, but this is normal, didn't find a cheaper one yet.

So yea I need a digitzer assembly (LCD & Digitzer fused) just happened to have the nexus 7 drop with a case when getting in the car. Now I guess it might be cheaper to buy a new 8GB then sell my old nexus 7 with the cracked display for a 100 or something if i can't get a screen before i order a new digitzer.
Walmart here only has the 249$ 16GB one so i might end up upgrading but its 228 to have the 8GB shipped to me.
So should I replace the digitzer (can't find any digitzer assemblies anywhere) or just order or buy the 16GB one?
I'll buy your broken Nexus 7 for $75.
If that helps.

Piece it out. You get more money that way, than selling a "broken" unit.
Some folks here are wanting a back cover for their custom paint job. You can get $75 for that alone.
Battery: $50.
CPU assembly: $80.
Etc.
$129

My uncle, just dropped his Nexus 4, check the photos.
Now what is the best fix? the phone is only 2 month old, has 10 more month of warranty, but it does not cover those parts.
He bought if for 830$, new here cost 555$ for 16GB version, I can:
1. Buy full new back cover + lcd,and just replace myself, but nobody can be sure they are genuine LG parts.
2. Contact local lab, that gives the warranty, and fix it there (and it won't be cheap, thrust me, I know), but he will get genuine LG parts.
3. F*@K that, and just sell it on eBay, and add the money to a new Nexus 4?
Thanks
$830?!?!? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.... Ouch.

ever think about buy a new one in a on-line shop??
830 bucks a lot!!! I think for all that money you can have a holiday in a country with playstore and buy yourself one..
As previously said ... Ouch and try and look at how much it would be to get one from an online retailer that can deliver to your country.

You know, when you stupid enough, and want the best and newest device, like, right now? now the price is "only" 555$ (we have 34.6% taxes on every device with cellular modem), so anyway, the best thing to do, is to sell, and buy a new? I sell stuff from time to time on eBay, just remembered a BB9700 with cracked screen for 120$ lol

Get a new N4. And tell your uncle to use a case, you have to be insane to use a phone that's all glass (not even all Gorilla Glass!) without a case. Try the Ringke Fusion - it's a quite nice looking case with a transparent back.
How much it worth in that condition?

I'm not sure on this. Probably not worth much - $200 tops if cracked, very few people buy cracked or broken phones. You could also get it repaired and buy a case, which might save you some money over buying a new phone and a case. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend.
Thing is, to make it look new, I need a back cover, display, and frame, so it just not worth it..
830 dollars? I'd jump on that deal in a heartbeat...-_-
It costs 360 USD including shipping here in my country and I thought that was expensive.
Now? Maybe not.
Also, are you talking in terms of USD? 850 a phone can get you something like, 3 Nexus's..
I'd suggest you sell and get a new one. There's just this thing about unboxing new phones that's so exciting
OK, I'll explain why that price, it was 2 month a go, so: firstly if you not buy from PLAY store, you can expect any price, in Israel it's :
17% tax on all stuff, and 34.6% on cellular equipment, and 2 month a go it just started to sell here, so again, new device, and you just want it no matter what, so there are always people that don't care about how much money they will spent, also israel is Europe, so its like 575$, not the 350$ US PLAY store.
Israel is NOT Europe! There are no such taxes in Europe! 34%!!!???? WTF???
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
front screen + digitizer is around $150 and the back screen around $100. So for about $250 you could repair it yourself. This would also be about the same price you would pay if you sent it back to LG for repairs.
Is that $830 US dollars? that is painful
How much is just to fix the front screen and digitalizer? I would fix those, cover back crack with a skin or case.
75$ to fix the display actually, plus maybe need a piece of M3 tape to glue the new display.
PS, the 34.6% is taxes for everything that has cellular modem inside, be it phone, smartphone, tablet, notebook, or even MIFI thing..
then there other 17% tax for anything you pay for here. I let's say, you buy a tablet, and it cross the сustoms of Israel, there 2 options,
if you lucky and it not considered to have 3G/4G/LTE, then it just like any tablet or notebook, and you pay 17% tax, if not..then there another 34.6%,
so many here, buy stuff in Eilat, or ask friends who go on vacation, as there no taxes on products, some say it maybe stop once..but I hope not soon..
What I mean by europe is, the some places say it's Europe, as the price is same as in other European countries, so we used to compare to Europe.
hey guys,
my nexus 7's screen broke
it's unresponsive as well which means my digitizer (as well as my lcd screen) need to be replaced.

Buying a replacement screen for a broken N7 can be a pain.
I replaced mine from a Chinese supplier with the same make/model. At the time $160 seemed expensive considering what I paid for my 16Gig N7.
Unfortunately, finding another for that price has become difficult. A lot of state-side suppliers have imported bunches and drove-up the price eBay. Alibaba is an alternative and you could probably find someone willing to sell you just one screen.
IMHO if you're fixing a 16 or 32Gig model, consider buying someone's used 8Gig N7. The screen is the same as your broken one and you could try reselling, donating or experimenting with the remaining innards.
I just went out to Currys to try and pick one up instore however it was out of stock. Also out of stock on the online website.
However, its still available on their eBay outlet store for the same price. (£99)
Is this still worth picking up then? Are the going to be discontinuing this model? Are the eBay ones their surplus stock their trying to get rid off?
Do you think the price will drop any further?
Thanks!
Very much doubt the price will drop any further. The £99 price tag is to get rid of surplus stock. I got mine at this price as well.
Thanks for that!
So you reckon its still with a pop? Not much else better I can get for £99 can I?
Performance Per Buck (PPB also know and Bang for Buck BFB) is that good that its not just worth getting its worth ripping it out their hands. I have had one which was faulty but the second one is perfect! just make sure you get the Magnetic cover as well!!!!
For a tablet that can keep up with the modern phones its smashing mate.
Yes I managed to play with one in store and it handled everything I threw at it with ease. I was just a bit concerned that it isn't really as popular as other tablets despite the low price.
I was deciding between this and the Nexus 7 2013, but I'd probably not go for the latter as the chip is ancient in tech world now and Nexus 8 is announced this week...?
Thanks all the same for the help, was just really what I was looking for, a confirmation I am doing the right thing. [emoji3]
I guess I'll place my order in the morning.
Cheers!
This tablet crushes the Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 in benches. A tablet that is not popular is not always a bad sign.
But there is also the down side of the company that has its branding on the Nvidia Tegra Note 7 (tegratab) in our case in the UK its Advent as they have bad rep in the computer side of things how ever with the TegraNote 7 the only thing Advent did was Brand the Device the sold making was down to Nvidia!! hence why Nvidia supplies the OTA's and the EVGA GiGabyte etc are all the same. The only major difference is the partition called LBH which holds the bootanimiation with the company whitelable.
I got mine from here, mint, saved £20 for a sd card and case

Quick question, does this come with a screen protector already pre-installed?
And any cade recommendations?

I paid £3.19 for a pack of 6 off Amazon. [emoji51]
Not here till Thursday at the earliest so in the mean time I have to put up with the scratch ridden plastic cover it came with. (Fruit Ninja with Stylus caused it) ?
has anyone tried Skinomi® TechSkin - EVGA Tegra Note 7" Screen Protector Ultra Clear Shield
Tempted to get one of these..

Best case for Tegra Note is Fintie case for HP Slate 7 Extreme. It is 100% compatible. Also the magnets work like a charm.
Obviously replace the screen is the first thought, I have read reviews on Amazon about the replacement screen from ASUS and its mixed reviews. Should I just buy a new or risk getting a lemon?

For the cost of one of these now....just buy another one used. Or a new 2013.
I wouldn't personally go through the hassle and cost of trying to fix it. ?
Buying a used nexus 7 is a better option:good:
I got a new (barely used) screen + frame assembly on ebay for $50. It works great and the seller was just a couple states away. I haven't had a single problem with my new screen. Parts can be found relatively easily if you don't want the cost of buying a whole used or new tablet. I can't say for sure about the amazon products, but my experience in buying a new screen was painless, quick, and cheap. My kids use my nexus 7 more than I do, so I was more worried about getting it back up and running immediately to avoid being referee to their fights lol.
I got one for 65$ from eBay China seller. And replaced it myself..
