Does anyone know of a way to reverse this update or at the least revert to the previous version of S Note? I miss having full screen mode, and that tool for panning just gets in my way seeing as i am able to do what it offers simply by using the 2 finger sliding gesture. Side by side polaris viewing along with s note is now useless as i am unable to find any room to write my chemistry problems with no full screen and with that anoying pan tool.
My hunch is that samsung revoked the two aforementioned features in order to make the tablet a little bit more friendly to less advanced users but I cant be sure. I just want my old version of S Note! (Post copied from thread where this issue got little attention - reposting here in hopes of getting some more feedback on fixing the issue)

It took me a few minutes to realize that if I pinch zoom the page out, then the panning window goes away. You can still do side-by-side and pinch zoom the S-note to the full page view, beside Polaris, and you won't have the panning tool.
Hope that helps.

The odd part is that the obtrusive little panning box they have added serves no purpose whatsoever. I mean you can just pan the window itself with your finger. Weird.
Anyway, you can go to the rooting thread in Development and just ODIN back to through original version until they fix this problem,

Can you explain what you mean by "just ODIN back through to the original version?"
Not asking for a detailed step by step, but for you to give me a link or something to set me in the right direction so I can figure out how to reconfigure stock. If its any help, I should note that I have rooted my device.

Hey fellas!
I've spent the last couple weeks making a bunch of tutorials and things for people just getting into the scene and those that want to learn a new thing or two. I got tired of seeing all the crappity crap crap videos that were OK but nothing stellar, and usually poor quality resolution wise. Here's a taste of what I've been up to. I hope to have the core of my series done by the end of the week. I say hope because I've redone every video 2-3 times, and I keep finding something new to play with each time.
So, with that. This is a link invite only. I'd just like to know what you guys think, or if maybe you have some ideas you'd like me to take a shot at. I do have more interactive videos that zoom, highlight, and point out things when it requires steps to do so (i.e Odin which is a GREAT video so far). Most of my videos have 3 vantage points. The computer screen, the screen on the phone, and me handling the phone sometimes simultaneously.
Here is just a taste of what I'm up to.
***Edit***
I added the first video so you guys can get a better idea. I've only activated the rooting option at the end, which should take you to the second video (original one I posted) Enjoy!

yes, and a link takes you to this video should you choose the rooting direction. Those videos are mostly done, but aren't linked yet. I think you'll be surprised on what I've done with them.
Really looking forward to it, when all done... this will be at the top of each sticky (General and Q&A).
I did some videos for the noob guide that are not even close to this in quality (my daughter was sleeping next to me, shot with a nexus one, and no editing). One thing that I do get asked a lot is when going from eclair > froyo > eclair. How to ODIN back to stock... and flashing kernels (about the simplest thing ever). I imagine you touched on some of this already, just giving some feedback to you that I received.
Here is a good guide on going back to stock, just in case:

Yup, so far I've got my core essentials in. It's just fine tuning them and making sure I like them. Basically a person who has never seen a vibrant will be able to decide what they want to do with their phone, rooted or not. There is the intro which give you a choice to root, or not to root, or what is root if they're clueless. From there, it branches out to theming and rooting topics. Hopefully by the start of next week I'll be able to do some of the kernal flashing details and the different roms going around so people can see visually what's going on and decide before hand what that particular angle is all about.
Looks great!
Nice work!

I bought a Nexus 7 today and have found that the touch screen is not very responsive with swiping. It seems to work fine pressing buttons (although maybe a little too sensitive as I found I would dbl type the odd letter) but doesn't want to swipe. If I view a webpage I can not scroll, it just Zooms. If it does scroll it goes to far etc...
Here is a short video showing the problem.
Argh.. being a noob it won't let me post a url directly. So if you go to youtube and append this to the url
Code:
watch?v=mBnvVBZqyGY&list=UUs3SFF_TLRY9u4YOAx1GEsg&index=1&feature=plcp
it should load the video.
Is this a hardware defect? If so I will take it back in the morning. What a pain though and not a good first step away from Apple products.
Any thoughts on this are appreciated.
Regards,
Luke
Well, I couldn't seem to find much about this problem so I'm going to take this back to the store today. Should I risk getting another one or try a different tab? Will the Nexus last or will I need to replace it within a year?

Well I just received the update and I find the touch screen to be a bit smoother, but not what I was hoping for. But I still think this tablet and jelly bean is great!

Well I fixed my problem by buying the IPAD3. I had a hard time convincing myself to stray from Apple to begin with and although this may have been an "anomaly" my first impression of the Nexus 7 was extremely hindered. In comparison, my first impression with my first Apple devices were mind blowing and that sticks in my mind. In my opinion, Google Nexus 7 should have done a better job ensuring peoples first impressions were better met by spending more money on quality control.
I haven't seen any videos or complaints about the screen issue I suffered from so I wonder this will be a new breed of screen issues as mine was from a new batch.
Cheers,
L
I've never had any problems with swiping on my nexus until the 4.1.2 update. Before the update everything was butter. After the update I found that swiping between screens sometimes didn't respond. I've also noticed this with the drop down menu and it's frustrating to get it to stay in place without automatically retracting. In Google's defense I did root my Nexus bf the update and maybe flashing the update from cwm instead of the stock recovery caused this issue.
Apparently its a bug in 4.2.X? Had the same issue in 4.2.1, went to CM10 (4.1.2) and everything is working fine... Please star this issue at android issue tracker:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39892
With a 100% clean factory image flash of 4.2.1 this issue is constant and remains. Any very quick swipe oftentimes makes the screen not scroll at all, regardless of app, regardless of screen I'm on. Extremely irritating issue. Please do star that issue.

Hello. I have written an app that helps to improve the accuracy of the S-Pen. It works only on Note phones because Samsung has compiled some S-Pen device driver interfaces out of the tablet ROMs. It is not clear why they did this. I have asked Samsung but gotten no replies. I have confirmed that parts of the kernel code is commented out in the open source kernel code (and you can see that some of the interface files found on phones do not exist on the tablets). It seems that the tablets suffer from the same issues related to the S-Pen as do the phones and I have many people asking me to make my app work on their tablets. I cannot do so with the stock ROMs because of the missing interface files.
So I am wondering if there any non-stock ROMs in which the S-Pen is more fully supported. The missing files are located on my phone in /sys/class/sec/sec_epen/ and the two files I need are called epen_hand and epen_rotation. If anyone knows of any ROMs for the S-Pen equipped tablets that provide these interface files, I would appreciate knowing and may be able to direct some folks to using them.
Thanks
I see the two files in Slimbean ROM installed on my Note I, and the list of supported devices include few tablets - see here:
http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/supported-devices, so I suppose those files could be there as well.
Edit: no S-pen tablet on the list...

It sure looks like you 5100 has the necessary files. Can you answer a couple other questions:
(a) Are you using a standard ROM? If so, what version? If not, what ROM and version?
(b) Does your 5100 have a dominant hand setting for the SPen?
(c) If your 5100 is rooted, would you be willing to try my Reset SPen (free) app and tell me if it runs on your tablet? After install, simply click the app's icon and you should see a success or failure message.
Thanks

Looking for a Couple Testers
As it appears that the Note 8 does have the necessary device driver interface files, I am looking for one or two rooted users to test my app who have the following issue with their S-Pens:
There seems to be a lack of accuracy in the point where the SPen's point actually is located and where its touch seems to be registered. This is most easily seen as a discrepancy between where the floating/hoovering pen icon (enabled on phones at least via an SPen setting) and where the actual tip of the SPen is located.
Reset Spen Pro attempts to resolve this problem. As a by-product, it may also be able to give you the following:
* A dominant hand setting (left/right) such as is found on Note phones but which seems to be missing on Note 8 tablets.
* Better support for the SPen's response to orientation changes which can improve SPen accuracy as orientation changes.
If you are interested, please PM me and we can discuss how best to do this. Thanks
Hi, I have a rooted Note 8 runing this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287367
I installed your app and it asked me what my dominant hand was. So it seems to be working. Is there anything you want me to try? how do i know if its working properly?

Hello and thanks for your effort and your reply. What this means is that my app finds the device driver input files it needs on your device/ROM but that it does NOT find any dominant hand setting (as exists on Note phones with standard ROMs). The app tries to support ROMs which lack this setting by creating and using a setting of its own.
Basically, the app exists to try and remedy a commonly described situation whereby the accuracy of the touches of the SPen's tip degrades over time. This is particularly evident when the floating/hoovering SPen pointer is enabled. This shows where the SPen device "thinks" the SPen tip is located. Over time, many phone users notice that the location of the pointer and the location of the actual SPen tip diverge. When this happens, touches of the SPen tip often do not get registered where the user thinks they should (under the SPen's physical tip). If you do not see this situation, the app may "work" but you will see no "benefit". Some phone users have reported this. But many have shown the app to create a large improvement in the accuracy of their SPens. This remedy is performed via the epen_hand file. It seems that the Note 8 stock ROM has this file but lacks the dominant hand setting. This makes little sense to me. And so far, Samsung has not responded to my queries about the situation.
Also, some non-stock phone ROMs fail to report changes of device orientation to the SPen which uses this information to recalibrate the SPen for the new orientation. This is done via the epen_rotation file. I have not encountered this issue in stock phone ROMs but I have no idea about the Note 8. So my app makes sure that orientation changes are reported to the SPen. Again, this affects the "accuracy" of the SPen's tip - on phones particularly in non-portrait orientations. It is important to note that this function only works if the app is scheduled to run in the background.
I hope this clarifies what the app is doing.
I got the priv and it's my third day using it and man do I miss my s5, most importantly TOUCHWIZ. I had Samsung since 2010 so it's so weird to me. But my s5 was getting really laggy and slow. I'm kinda regretting the priv because I miss switching batterys, I hate being connected to an outlet and I miss having root. Would the priv be able to get root at least? I wanted something new but this is not my cup of tea. If there's no root then I'll just end getting the note 4 with removable battery and SD slot.

I am also hoping there is a non tethered root method discovered for the Priv. I think there might be but I know it will be difficult. Many well known devs have already commented even before the Priv that root access will become more difficult with MM.
Just curious but what exactly are you missing about touchwiz? I have a several Samsung devices & one of the first things I like to do is rip touchwiz out & either leave functions disabled or replace it with an alternative solution. I just never liked the cost of lag that running pure stock left you with.
If you let us know specifically what your missing we may be able to offer 3rd party solutions you might actually find superior to what you get with touchwiz.

The simple maybe a bit harder. Samsung really did dumb things down on their devices. (apple of Android)

Not sure what you're trying to communicate here but I especially love the fact that BlackBerry is actively trying to bring the best they have in smartphone tech to the Android platform.
I don't find it complicated at all. In fact I find out exactly the opposite. The shortcuts they add to the launcher & keyboard alone have saved me tremendous amounts of time. I admit I send allot of emails & text messages but I actually like to work on my phone [emoji1]
I think you hit it in the spot when you pointed out that you never really liked stock Android which is not really a BlackBerry thing. Sure they could have done more to customize the interface like Samsung did with Touchwiz but until the Note 5 came out I really hated how slow & laggy Touchwiz made my past Samsung phones. It made my a Note 4 upgrade to lollipop so slow I had to wipe the phone & go back to kitkat.
I'd also recommend getting Chronos widgets from the Playstore. They have a great time, date, calendar combo widget.
Don't get me wrong because I think the Priv is far from perfect. I would have really preferred the following items
* removable battery
* fingerprint scanner
* DTek software that could actually block application permissions so that I have total control over my personal info
* more control over the launcher functions like the bottom screen gestures
* more control over the edge screen options & functionality
* more control over the productivity tools
* Developer Edition Priv hardware with unlocked bootloader & root access so XDA can help fix the things preventing the Priv from being the must-have smartphone device it can be!
* the rest of the missing BB7.1 & BB10 missing features & gestures [emoji1]

I don't think you can set the home and back buttons to always on which is probably a good thing the next time you go watch a video or some other action that might have those in your view.

Hi,
I have a couple of these 2017 fire HD tablets all rooted and experimenting with various OS's on them.
I've been working on a processing.org sketch on android for a couple years now and running into some unique FPS issues.
When I run Lineage 2022 May edition, the app runs at roughly ~22FPS
When I run the same app on 5.6.2.0_Fire_HD_10_optimized_pre_rooted_stock_rom-signed.zip I get roughly ~40 FPS.
**Side note, I built a quick sketch to post here with source code and APK but when I run it on both tablets, they are both 60FPS.. which leads me to believe something else is going on weird. The sketch just dumps a bunch of circles on the screen and displays FPS in biggen font.
Is there anything I can do to provide someone details for research or help me in troubleshooting?
I'm tempted to try a old lineage build like
[discontinued][ROM][unlocked][suez] Lineage-12.1 [05 MAY 2020]Generally just work my way up to later and later builds and figure out where it broke and stay there.
Technically I don't NEED to run lineage, but I would like really any version of any OS for the fire HD that runs quickly. It doesn't need to be the latest.
I just need something with some customizability.. run app on USB power, auto power off tablet when USB power is removed... I haven't got that far yet.. but my requirements are minor.
Additionally.
Could someone provide some links to all the various os packages I can try installing?.. Not sure if it would be helpful, but a pinned post with just url's to all?
So far I have seen latest MAY 2022 release of Lineage, then these hacked older versions of the fire OS software. Is there any others?? Please link below I'd like to try them out.
Thank you,
Take care.
any news here ?
I haven't seen anything. I was just scooping up all OS releases and running a test sketch on each one.. I can publish a simple APK file if people want to try this out. But really there are better benchmarking apps out there, mine was just simple like draw a bunch of circles on a screen and print the fps.
Thanks... I'm going to install Lineage, so if you want to me compare....

Hi Targa,
I made a post on Reddit a while ago with the same subject and realized I didn't update the thread here.
This is what I tried.
5.6.2.0_Fire_HD_10_optimized_pre_rooted_stock_rom-signed.zip I get roughly ~40 FPS.
lineage-12.1-20200505-UNOFFICIAL-suez.zip ~locked at 44FPS. oldy thou.
lineage-14.1-20190926-UNOFFICIAL-suez.zip ~locked at ~48 FPS, less oldy.
*These aren't links.
As far as the OS is concerned, with what I am using the tablet for, I really do not care which one to use.
I have some basic requirements in which I'm guessing that any of them will work.
*I need a method to power on the device when USB power is applied.
* This app would auto start that I specify.
*When usb power is removed, the tablet would turn off.
I'm putting this in a car and writing some custom processing.org sketch and since the tablet is in a 3d printed caddy like thing, I don't have easy access to the power button and need things to be automated, I also don't want to have to touch the screen to launch something. Perhaps wishful thinking.
Thanks.
crap, I bricked by tab while trying to bring it to Lineage... Guess I need to open it now.
Thanks.
Is it the waiting for bootrom message? if it is plug in the usb leave it at the waiting for bootrom message on the terminal and hold the power button on the tab, it should take 5-15 seconds and it will then just say "remove short" which in the scheme of things there was no short. just hit enter and continue. I've done 3 of these tablets.
Yes, I managed, thanks for the hint (even if I already managed before, it was described in one of the threads).

No worries, I think a lot of times its hard to write guides. I tend to be overly verbose when explaining things to help with a lot of the back and forth. Habit I guess..

Did you find the "perfect" Software for your hardware?
@targa which Lineage OS version did you find to be more stable? I am going to change from stock because of compatibility issues... My primary requirement is reading and watching, after getting used to higher refresh rate displays I feel its too odd to use something with lower framerates, so I want to know more about it. also I bricked my suez(FireHD 10)... and if someone can help me a lil bit please feel free to send a message.

Hi there,
Honestly, I would try them all. My only test scenario was a single app I am making for a personal project.
My requirements were pretty low. Wireless needs to work, it needs to not drain power and decent frame rate in my app. Sound isnt required.
My results were pretty mixed and when it boiled down to it. It almost didn't make much of a difference. Because I don't need a lot of features, I would probably stick with the oldest release, and the sound patch to allow head phones to work.
Which is why I would say try them all. The latest does not always mean the best in my opinion. Feel free to prove me wrong here, I am up for discussion.
Thank you,
Take care.
Hi,
my tablet is now on Lineage and I'm happy with it. But my use cases aren't really extensive, I basically use it so that my kids can watch videos and earplays and some games. But for sure it's a lot better and newer than FireOS. I believe headphones did work so far.
