Android don't start on 16 g sd card class 6

i have new 16 g sd card class 6 Serioux but android doesn't want to start. i tried all type of format, even partitioning. nothing work. Somone have an ideea why ? On my old sd card toshiba 8g class 4 android working great.

Did you format, within phone, to FAT32? It looks as though you have experience with builds so I'm sure that you are installing the Android folder on the root of the SD card...make sure that you don't create a folder and then add the build folder to the root folder; it creates a sub and that causes problems.

thank you for answer , i'm not a newbie on Android. this card always was formatted with fat32 on pc , and phone, also with panasonic sd formatte 2.0. Card is working well , 5-6 mb on test with hdd tune. i made him active , bootable , xfat , fat 16, partitioned in 2, changed cluster, tried everything who cross my mind without any succes. No build start. i waitted 2 hour's for data.img to be created but no succes. i tried with version copy pasted from my old card who works, still nothing. i don't know what else to do .

It might be as simple as the "Serioux" card isn't supported; the only other thing that I know off the top of my head is at the bottom of my thread; I had found a link to the formatting issue and that's where I came up with the idea of formatting within WinMo.

what u say is stuck on green htc logo , well, i pass this step, im stuck on next logo/animation, just plays over and over.

I know that it does take some builds to load as it creates the data.img, especially a larger one; if you opted for the 1gb for instance.
You are using the same build as the other card? And, you loaded the file the same way? Did you do it through USB connect?
Let's see if we can't get this goin'!

What build are you using, or trying to use? If I don't answer right-quick it's 'cause I'm getting ready for X-Mas...

tried three build's on both sd card's. on toshiba 8g all works fine. on serioux 16 g stuck. right now i'm on serioux card with Core_Droid_HD_V0.4 build and i watch that startup nice animation with droid in a fire circle. boring . i plan to let in that way till morning. like u say maybe this ''serioux'' card's are not suported. i'll report later. hope santa will come ))

I think it might be the card. I know that I've seen class 2 and 4 around working; your "Serioux" card is the only one that I can find, as far as brand, and nothing about it working or not working on HD2, maybe return it and get another brand?

It's definately the card. I bought a wintec class 10 16gb and android wont run hardley at all on it, went and bought a 16gb sandisk class 2 at radioshack and android runs flawless on it. The shame is that the sandisk class 2 tests at class 10 speeds. They have it on Newegg for $34, Get model # SDSDQ-016G-A11M. There are two versions on newegg so make sure you order the right one. You won't be disappointed.

Have you tried formatting your SD card with WinMo? This helped someone a couple of months ago, it's got something to do with a partition index file.

I used to have a similiar problem on some builds here.
Have u tried replacing a builds kernel, say hastarin because that definitely helped me boot into Android. I faced the same issue Aa you too.. which build are u flashing too btw?

This worked on my 128mb on ics but my 8gb continues to be unmountable (blank or unsupported) even after using this.
I'm not the only one. Ics passions been doing this for a while, my 8gb, no-go.. my 2 and 4 gb work and my 8gb works on all other roms too

I've used ICS. Then reset the device was opened is closed. Then I tried the fix with odin. I've tried all the stock rom did not. When inserting the device is opened it has a memory card. Probably the top of the memory card is working.

SD car not recognized on my Verizon Galaxy Note 3????

I've got a Samsung 64 GB sd card that I've formatted and put in my Note 3, the problem is that its not recognizing it, any help would be appreciated. The problem I'm having is when I insert the card in my phone and go under Storage all the way at the bottom the Mount SD Card is greyed out so I cannot do anything with it

Which file system did you use when you format your card ?

yes it is being recognized by my pc, its a 64 GB card so its formatted to exfat, still not doing anything, ive tried several ways and just not having any luck.
any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I am at work so getting into recovery on a stock phone for me is impossible, when I get home I will try that, my phone is stock so not much i can do with it here.

Stock touchwiz have issue with exfat ... At least that's what I remember reading somewhere... (havent used tw for quiet a while now ) Try fat32 (I know 4 gig limit is a pain ... But just to clear things up ... ) and see of it reads before flashing a recovery.

I just noticed this in your post above, you say 4GB limit, what did you mean by that?

In a Fat32 file system ... A single file can't exceed 4gb ... In case you want to transfer a 8gig rar file to your mem card ... You can't do it with fat32.

unfortunately no go so far, got home and reformatted several size SD cards but its not reading any of them. I had a few 8GB, a few 16GB and also the 64GB card I am trying to use but just no luck.

Taking it to a phone shop today to see if they clean the contacts on the phone itself and if that doesn't help I will return the phone.

How to rename my external SD card?

When I moved my 128gb card from my Note3 instead of extSdCard it for some weird reason named it 18fa-adfa. It's there a way to rename it. I have Busy box installed, I just need to know the steps to do it. I tried using ES Explorer but got a task failure.
Worst case please tell me how to do a symbolic link.

Use an sd adapter to put it in a pc and rename it there. Or connect phone to a pc in and try to change it in the windows file manager.

That did not work The drive label is not used as the root folder name. Any body else?

Did you try putting the microsd card in an sdcard adapter and inserting into a card reader on the pc? This will show as a drive letter and should allow you to rename or format the microsd card.

That's what I did. Like I said it does not use the label as the folder name.

No way to rename the microSD, it's a new Android 6 feature: it refers to the microSD using some unique ID, not by the label.
But generally there are other ways to access the SD content, for ex. using /mnt/external_sd or similar

Nope, S7E's marshmallow doesn't have those other symlink names unfortunately... Even updating sdcards on the same phone is painful. I have to redo all of my foldersync folder pairs

Ah I guess it's just S7E's marshmallow. From my post on foldersync's community, seemed like lots of people hated MM's folder structure.
Definitely nothing under /mnt except emulated and the UUID, which really sucks. Perhaps we can all complain?

After having received and configured my new S7E I unfortunately must confirm what you said... in the Samsung's MM there are no friendly names referring to the microSD under /mnt nor under /storage, like in other MM smartphones...

There must be a way to symlnk a name? We need a small app for that. I'm sure rooting is required.
That is the 2nd thing Sammy messed up on, the 2nd is they are defaulting to Always on multi app pop up choosers. It is horrible.

I just put the card in a SD card adaptor and renamed it on Windows.
Works fine on my S7 G935F with encripted SD card.

any update on this? I received my S7E and I hate this MM naming....

Same problem here. Some file managers see it as Media Card, some as SDcard, but the majority see it as "random combinations of numbers and letters" that is identifiable to the card otherwise. More annoyingly, some file managers see it as both and treat it as 2 different SD cards each requiring their own permission. Galaxy S7 Verizon using SanDisk 64GB, Samsung 64GB and Samsung 128GB. Same results.

I thought that quote was hilarious! :laugh: I guess everyone in this thread is too young to have ever used DOS or maybe even the Windows command prompt. This "unique ID" has been around for years. It's simply the Volume ID stored in the boot sector. It can be changed easily on NTFS and FAT32 boot records using a disk editor, Sysinternal's VolumeID utility or with the HardDiskSerialNumberChanger program. The problem with exFAT is that there is a checksum stored and if the boot sector is changed, Windows and Android will think the SD card is corrupt. Use Rufus to format it to FAT32 and you'll be able to change the Volume ID to whatever you want.
Volume in drive G is Sony Xperia
Volume Serial Number is 4E4C-8A5E​

I'm actually using exFAT, for me there are no chances on Android for the slow proprietary NTFS or the obsolete FAT32...
If I understand well, are you really going to use FAT32 on a 128 GB microSD used to store 4K recordings and videos?

I was just saying that if you want to change the Volume ID, you're going to have to format the card in FAT32. I don't know if any Android phones support NTFS. When I had MBR hard drives, I used to change the Volume ID's on them so that's why I said it can be done on NTFS.
On my Sony Xperia M4 I'm currently using exFAT, but my LG phones only support FAT32, so I did use Rufus to format the 64 GB SDXC cards to FAT32 for them. I don't need to store anything over 4 GB and FAT32 is much more compatible if I have to use the card in other devices, like my pre-Cinavia Blu-ray player. My phone isn't capable of 4K recording and most apps probably don't write files larger than 4 GB since there are still a lot of phones in use that don't support exFAT at all.
In my opinion, it's good that Android 6 supports the Volume ID, especially if you switch out SD cards, because then an app won't accidentally overwrite data on the wrong card.

I've been using exFAT formatted microSD on all my phones since Lollipop cause AFAIK exFAT access should be faster then FAT32.
Even my latest microSD (Lexar microSDXC, 128 GB, 1800x, UHS-II) comes from factory already formatted in exFAT.
Moreover, exFAT is natively compatible with Windows at least since version 8, no special drivers or utilities needed, even exFAT formatting new media is possible within those Windows versions.
So, whenever possible, IMHO is wiser to use exFAT on latest Android versions.

Galaxy note 3 doesnt recognize my SD Card

I have been using Galaxy note 3 for the last 3 years or so, have rooted it, installed AOSP and stock ROMs (including the latest Note 7 ports) on it. So I have a fair understanding of how the phone works, and am able to work with errors on a very comfortable basis (sometimes, with help from other XDA members as well).
Now, here's where I am stuck. I was running a Note 7 port ROMs (Phronesis and Magma-NX), and also ran an AOSP ROM. Since last week, my phone has not been able to recognize my SD Card (I have two cards: one, a 32gb card, and the other a 128gb card) on either of the stock or AOSP ROMs. It says: Corrupted. So I begin to format the card (both of them) on the phone itself, and I keep getting this message when I try to format my SD Card via phone:

The SD Cards format properly on my laptop. The end result is my phone doesn't recognize any memory cards, and I basically end up working with the internal storage of 32gb. I havent encountered this error before, and I have no clue about what to do. I have tried googling it, and Google gives me a result for partitionPrivate and not partitionPublic. I dont know if these are the same things or not, and in either case, I absolutely dont know
what to do.
Can anyone suggest/guide as to what should I do?

Sorry buddy, but didn't quite understand when you said" given it a name". How and what did you do to name your SD Card? I will definitely try anything to make it work

I have same problem and I never fix it. I follow so many guides from Google without luck, seems that my N3 decide to not read external memory any more.

Yes, I use Google Photo app for my pictures and videos, Spotify 4 music, large files like Twrp and Titanium backups stored on external hard drive.

I guess that is probably working good for you; do you have your photos and videos setup to be directly posted on the Cloud then?

Definitely, you have various options how to upload directly, with mobile plans, only with WiFi, only on charge.

Just to check, have you tried to convert your sd cards into internal storage (adoptable storage) before the problem occurs ?

@zlazaar I'm not sure bro.. All I did was just copied one app from my internal memory to the external SD Card. But I didn't jot try to convert Tele external SD into an internal memory.. Do you think that's what the issue is here?

Can you try this please :
- Format one of your sd cards using your PC (use this recommended tool)
- Make sure you choose FAT32 as file system before format
- Check if you got the correct total size of the formatted sd card
- Shutdown your phone, put your sdcard, boot directly to recovery
if the recovery is able to recognize the sd card with the correct total size, then you don't have a hardware failure.

When you connect it to a PC, when viewing My Computer as it used to be called, you can see all of the drives, C:, D: etc, on that screen if you right click above your SD card drive select rename, it should be under removable drives. A long shot but also an easy one so worth a punt.

@zlazaar Hey buddy, so I downloaded the SD Formatter, and did a quick format (should I have done full Format - if yes, which one - Erase or overwrite). I also tried the Format Size Adjustment ON and OFF.
I have 2 SD Cards, one 128gb and the other a 32gb. The SD Formatter formatted the 128gb card as an exFAT, and the it formatted the 32gb card as a FAT32. However, TWRP still didn't recognize either of the cards. I still dont have the cards running on the phone..
