Broken NAND + SD Android. Possible? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hallo everyone,
My Leo's NAND is broken. The device may still Boot 1 time from 10. Otherwise it vibrates 7 times when HTC Logo appears whithout booting further. My thought was, to run SD Android. If it gets to Boot to the Rom, I could try to run Android from SD. Will it work on the SD completely, or do SD Versions need NAND while working anyway? Thanks a lot for all the replies!!!!

The android roms booting from the SD card will require the internal memory to run. For system functions. So i guess the sd card roms will also run 1 out 10 times :crying:

Oh crap, it sounds bad.... Thanks a lot anyway. ;(

How do you know your nand is broken?
If it is it may not be totally broken, it may just have a few bad blocks!
Try increasing your partition size before you throw it away?

Its booting 1 out of 10 times. I think there is some problem. If there were bootloops then we could consider bad blocks

A guy from service told me, that the nand is dead...
I'll try to increase the partition size. It was booting from time to time, maybe it will live for another view months. Thanks for the advice.!!!

I have the same problem as you and am not sure how to stop it.... only thing i can do at the moment is run android off SD and hope a solution will present it self eventualy
If no other solution pops up I would just hard reset, perhaps with removing the SD card first. The removing of SD because it seems to be a way of backing up your data.
Not guaranteed though.

Invasion2 is correct. The "system" files are stored on the internal memory. Any folders/files missing from the sd card that weren't put there by you will be regenerated by android and apps you use.

I was in a boot loop after a failed install of a custom rom - did all the research - came to the conclusions that I had bad emmc - was getting the fail-pu errors when trying to flash the PD15IMG.zip. As a last ditch effort, found a thread that talked about SD format - yep found out it was an issue with my SD card format. I ended up putting another SD card in that worked in another phone (could also format a new card FAT32) and was able to finally get past this and get the stock (froyo) image on.
Yes but this is for a phone with custom recovery that is not the case here this is a stock phone with s on

I already tried re formatting to fat32 when i load the froyo image it loads it and skips the update to the mytouch 4g screen no failed pu message just with the gingerbread img.

Yeah dude you have a paperweight. I would just go to Tmo and ask for a replacement. Say it just shut off automatically or something. Sorry, hope I helped.
Final word
As I said I am working on this phone so I have to deliver the bad news. The person who owns the phone bought it used and was using it then updated and things went bad. Hope this thread helps someone. Thank you for the repsonse

[Q] Android Booting Problems

Hi,
Ive been having problems booting android on NAND as when i try and boot MAGLDR gets stuck on 'GO GO GO'. Sometimes i would leave the phone for aroud 30mins and it would start booting android but would freeze while booting, even when the phone isnt hot! When the phone is hot it shows 'fatal 1 hit'.
Some lucky times were I actually get android to boot, after a few minutes of using it, it freezes randomly
Is there any way for me to solve this?
Thanks.

Did you try increasing your partition size to compensate for potentially bad blocks on band?

Install a new ROM with no CPUID

Hi guys
I don't know what is happening with my tablet. I dropped it on the floor and after that quit working. I tried to flash a new rom as I am able to go into the recovery but installation hangs up at finding boot img step. Restore not working as well. Sometimes it says that it couldn't load the sd card or the ext sd card. Now it bots but it stays at android logo forever and eventually shuts down.
I dont have the CPUID handy so any method using it is out of discussion.
If you can come up with a solution would be really awesome. If not I guess I have to throw it in the garbage.
Thanks a million.

If you did a recovery backup, you should be able to find the UID number in the recovery folder on your EXT SD card.
Or perhaps you were not rooted with CWM installed?
More than likely, it could possibly be just corrupt data. First thing I would do, is check your EXT SD Card on your PC. Copy the contents to your PC, then format it FAT32. (always try to save the contents of it first)
Then, I would try running one of the update files. Copy it to SD Card, and try installing it. You may have to try a couple first. Here's a link with decrypted A500 ICS update files. Generally, we install these (rename the file to update.zip), by holding Vol+ and PWR till it starts installing the update. However, if you have the V8 Bootloader installed, then you need to try them through CWM. One of them should work usually.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31323893&postcount=8
Another method is to totally wipe the internal memory from your tablet. This can be done through CWM. When you do your wipes and formats before installing a custom rom, go to Mounts and Storage, and toggle Data/Media. Then when you do your wipes, it will wipe and format EVERYTHING, leaving bootloader and CWM.
also, I would pop the back cover off, and look for loose connections.
As with throwing in the garbage, there is a market for a500/501 parts.

Thanks a lot for the tips. Never thought of sticking the sd card into the pc. I did a backup so i should easily find the CPUID. I'll try to follow your steps and see what's going on.
Thank you.

Other things you can try, if you have Skrilax_CZ V8 bootloader, you can try booting to fastboot, and wipe data. Theres several commands to do this for the different partitions like data, system, cache, then try re-installing the custom rom you were using again.

It's version 7 actually.
