Maybe you can tell us what you want to do with it and then we can make recommendations.

Look at this thread mate, it has a lot of members top ten apps. It's defiantly worth reading through.

If your looking for games, there's a dedicated thread in the apps and themes section. There's also a list of the best free games for the N7.
I can post links to them if you want
BTW, no worries. Just glad I could help someone, my good deed for the day

Once again thanks very much.
One thing I wanted to ask is my n7 has been shipped today but how do I know if im getting a white or black one? Im really excited for it to arrive

You get a black (or brown - what ever it is..) one, because the white backcover was only a special edition for the I/O presentation.
The most of the reviewed N7's are withe because only the guys at the I/O got them.

It will be the black version, they stopped making the brown version a bit ago. If i read correctly, I don't think the brown ones were actually assembled by ASUS, not too sure about that. (I got the brown one from Tesco last month, didn't know it was brown until it was mentioned on here and I looked on the box )
EDIT: Like flomitdreio said above, you won't get a white version.

I have received mine today but guess what. No charger, open seal, fingerprints all over the screen
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2

Really unlucky :crying:, I take it that your sending it back? If you get a replacement and there are fingerprints on the screen and the seal is open it might just have been quality control checked by ASUS. Also, If you bought it from the Play Store, did you tick the option to have your details on it when you were paying for it? This might also be the reason for the broken seal and fingerprints.
It doesn't excuse there being no charger though...

I have called google theyve passed on the details to the department that deal with it and will apparently contact me in a couple of days. Honestly I wouldnt have minded but the fact theres no charger its outraging...

Theres wrapping for the plug. But no plug.
Now when I spoke to google first, the cssn number on the box was not in my name or for my details. The second time I called nothing of that was mentioned however, when I look on the delivery note I got the same serial number. Atm I cannot see any issues, lets see what google says.
So angry
Theres also scuffs on the box
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2

An update. Just got off the phone again to google. The lady was I gotta say very helpful and told me my cssn number is actually linked to two devices somehow. So basically now the "specialist team" have this info and will get back to me in 48 hours I was told. I asked if the replacement is a new device or a refurb. She told me its a new device. I will apparently receive an RMA email which will contain a link to order my replacement
Do you guys think I should play around with this n7 until replacement??
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2

Shame that you've got a bad experience with ASUS before you even turn the device on. If I were you, I'd use it until they send you a new one out. Just don't root it or do anything like that. You can always restore it to the factory settings. Can't do any harm to play around with a device that you've paid at least 169 quid for.
Looking at the box, I'd say that someone had it before you and have returned it for some reason. Mine didn't have any scuffs or scratches on it......

That was my exact thoughts. So hopefully ill hear from them soon. Lol I paid 199 quid for mine.lol so its like a lot of mony for me considering I dont earn much. I even applied for a credit card with a limit of 250 quid and well this what happens
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2

I hope that you get a good one soon. It's really a top notch tablet when you get one that works well, especially for 200 quid. Good luck with getting a perfect one back. (mines got a bit of screen flicker, so I'm half and half to return it until I know that I'll get a good one back)
Just out of interest, does it say on the box that it's brown or back?

Hi i just checked my box and i can confirm that it says brown. When i get my replacement i will also then let you know what it says on the box.
Thanks for your reassurance guys. I cant wait to get my OWN new nexus 7 that i can use to full functionality and make it my own. I have been using this ome, though there is nothing wrong with the device i.e. screen lifts or flickers however i am loving it so far.

I recommend you Xda Premium

I am getting so anxious..how long do google take to reply. I am starting to love this device however dont wanna get used to it too much, obviously because of the replacement im hoping to receive.

Just a quick update guys. Received an rma email not too long ago but cant process the replacement order due to insufficient funds. What shall I do guys? I have to wait two weeks till I get paid or can I call my credit card company that I used to buy my n7?
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2

If I were you, I'd ring Google and tell them that your not getting paid until in two weeks, and that you'll have to sort it out then. There's no point messing around with the credit card when everything can be sorted easily in 2 weeks.
I suppose if everything if perfect with the device except from the charger, could you just ask them to send a charger out. You'll still keep the years warranty in case anything does go wrong.........

I'm about to rage on Best Buy for Zagg install

So I went to best buy a few hours ago to get a screen protector for my newly replace Evo. Sadly there was not much of a selection so I went with the Zagg invisible shield one. As I as about to go to the front to pay the mobile person said that he could install it for me if I wanted for $7. I said ok why not I hate installing screen protectors anyway. So he got it on and it was crooked so I told him that it's no good. He tried again and used more solution spray. I got a little worried about the amount he was using and told him maybe that's a little too much spray. He said don't worry it will be ok. Well flash forward to now, I just turned on my Evo and guess what? Solution leaked under the screen!!! I'm about to flip!

Yea, I just wish tomorrow would come already so I can head down there. I am angry beyond belief. This phone is 2 days old rooted and all my apps, now I have to flash it back to stock and head down there at the crack of dawn to have them most likely give me a hard time about this.
Dammit man...that sucks. Hope you get that resolved. Refund and replace if you ask me.

You are about to have a hard time with them... they are complete dumb asses at bb.. they are gonna try to play lost with you, just ask for the manager as soon as you walk in. He/ she will play dumb too, then ask for the district manager, then they will get you a little white box out the cabinet, say hello to your new evo!
From past experience with same issue!

LOL, why did you walk out of the store without checking first. Huge mistake on your part. If there was an error, it should have been fixed right then and there no problems.
I dont know if there is any garentee to protect you. But good luck, hope the fix it or at least get a refund.

Cheesy is CHEESY!
Honestly, sometimes it takes a push ... a verbal push, if you will. You know how many people probably have other people put screen protectors on - for whatever reason - and they just suck? And they just walk out with em?
Just being real.
There are people that won't stand for horse **** ... and there are others that will. It's not about "appearing" tough here or there ... it's like getting anything applied / installed and it not being right but "dealing with it." Shouldn't even have to ask. ****ing say something. LOL
Internet tough guy aside ... and you clearly jumped the gun.
Thanks though, I've seen you post before.\
edit: on that note; do you do anything but post bull**** and / or ask questions?
Honest question.
Because, honestly, I see nothing but - and in this case, nothing but a half decades old picture and bull****-run-of-the-mill-every-other-god-damn-forum-thread-post picture. And dude, you really did use that prematurely ... the bandwagon you're jumping on - this "internet tough guy" **** that has been going on for a while - AROUND HERE AT LEAST, is starting to get out of hand. In the way that people are starting to "diagnose" too much as such. It's a Forum. You clearly don't show up looking to impress the English Majors. Most folks are not worried about spelling errors and "complete sentences." Most, read; the majority - and even the people you admire and adore - couldn't care less about that ****.
So you post your cute pictures.
I hope you like mine.
Please, in the future, if you are going to TRY and be demonstrative ... don't post bull**** before the fact. Or at least as often as you do ... because, well, just ..... no.

True.
But, to be fair ... those "liquid" applicators can throw a first timer for a loop ... or whatever.
It can be daunting because you don't know how much / little to use. And I've seen people go overkill with that ish.
That being said ... yes, do it yourself. That's the best way. I mean, these assholes' as BB know little more - if anything - than you do. At least when it comes to their "mobile department."
With that being said about that being said ... should you be so worried, I've heard of others having them do it and when / if they **** up then they are obligated to grab a new one and begin again. If I saw dude doing the same one over and over I'd say something ... can never be embarrassed to question someone who should know what they're doing.
It was like a kid, asking someone to cut out a cut in their griptape ... once I started to work a shop ... **** that, I nailed it or if dude asked for something stupid I said do it themselves. Always worked. I mean, your average consumer can only be so competent.
Make sure the solution isn't just under the protector and will evaporate in a day or so, I've heard that in the past referring to these type of accessories.
i would try using ghost armor. its the best screen protector out there. i had my whole evo done in ghost armor. they use the same material on helicoptor blades to keep it from chipping from flying debre. and you get a lifetime replacement as long as you have your phone. google it for a store near you
Same thing
Happened to me, left a visible shadow like mark on my screen for over a month, out did eventually go away completely,
I also left fingerprints on it so I went to the mall and a zagg booth replaced and installed for only 5 bucks
Zagg makes a good product for protection, it does however seem to yellow after time, of course that could be the oil in. my hands doing that.
Also the feel of it isn't as smooth, it kinda interferes if your a swyper like me.
In closing I will say my phone doesn't have evan a blemish on it, looks as good as it does second week of launch.
Swyped from a galaxy far far away......

Non-corporate stores: helpful

Yep.
Oftentimes we see advice to "go to a corporate store" or only deal with them for serious matters, but in fact, non-corporate stores can be a big help. Here in my area, the local corpstore got sold, and bought by a 'premium reseller'. With that, I found out yesterday, came a repair center. Awesome - I needed one. My headphone jack had become quite useless.
I went in, and within 20 minutes, one of the employees had replaced my headphone jack. No damage, no defects - 100% perfect. And much quicker than I expected. Thanks to TEP, I walked out without paying one red cent.
Why post this? Primarily to counterbalance the feedback on noncorp stores and Sprint repair centers that has come about here. Another user had his Epic all but destroyed by a sloppy solder job - quite unfortunate. But it's worth recognizing that such cases are a minority.
Fun fact: the employee who worked on my device built his Epic from a bunch of spare parts. Cool.
Andrew at the Auburn AL location: if you're reading this, thanks again. Got anything custom on your device? And did you notice I actually had both of Yelawolf's major releases ready in the music player?

I'm the guy who had his phone destroyed by a faulty solder job.
Despite that, I was forced to go back to the very same store with the replacement epic a week after when it's screen crapped out. I ended up getting a good chuckle with the repair tech (different guy) as he put the guts from my new phone into the case of my old phone I since it was still in their inventory. Now I have a frankenphone of my own lol.
Overall it was a good experience at the end of the day.

Neither did the guys at the store...or I for that matter, until phone number 3, hmmm).

I've been to 3 corporate stores and 2 non corporate in the last few days. Sadly none of them were able to help me out but all were courteous and helpful. I usually go to the non corporate store down the street when my Sprint phone (various) have needed service and they've done a wonderful job.
Back story on the current problem in case anyone has any advice. A few days ago my epic had a sad accident where the LCD has developed a crack causing it not display anything. ADB tells me the guts are fine and the gorilla glass doesn't have a mark on it. Sprint told me with TEP that screen replacement is free (IF they have a replacement screen around). Short of it no one has a replacement screen in Central Ohio it appears and no one will just order a screen. So it appears I'm stuck with the $100 deductible on the TEP... sucks
Asurion (I believe that is right) sent me a brand new phone with activation instructions and a return mailing envelope for my DOA phone. Just call the folks at customer service and explain to them your problem- no need to go anywhere, they should send it right to you..and you won't be without a phone for the RMA/repairs! I am sprint with TEP too, if that is what you are on they should do the same for you.

I just called Sprint Customer service..I dropped my phone and the screen wouldn't even come on, though touch was still active (could tell by haptic feedback). The Sprint CS will arrange it, not sure if calling Asurion direct would accomplish anything, I never did. As far as I can tell, they handle the warranty for the sprint TEP plans.
I no longer go corporate since the local reseller moved and upgraded its status and can now do almost everything corporates can. It saves me about 110 miles of driving.

return or not?

well, i bought 16gb n7 and they delivered n7 with transformer rom installed, im thinking this must be other customer's n7 returned product, anyway, i emailed them asking for a replacement, just got an email an hr ago showing the instruction, with the return shipping to service center, they didnt say they going to cover for the cost of shipping or that's must come out of our pocket.
last week i tried to installed stock n7 rom on this and it works great again without any problem
so should i return this and waiting for the next n7 which maybe have problems?

You ordered a new device and received someones return? That just goes to show you how little they are paying attention to the details while they try to push as many of these things out as possible due to all these pre-orders. Another reason why I feel the need to wait it out for a few more months and see how things are then.
Was the package sealed like new?
I'd honestly return it just because, obviously it had a problem for someone to return it, fixed or not you basically received a "refurb" instead of a brand-new unit. That's grounds for a serious discount.
What makes you so sure it had a non standard ROM?

It might not necessarily be a customers returned unit. If it was just a blank Transformer rom it could be a mess up in the production process. Rememeber Asus make both devices so they will have all those roms floating about. I had a strange rom on my Galaxy Nexus when I bought it but it was defo a new device. It might just be a mistake when they initialy built it.
But if you flashed the N7 rom with no problems and the unit is ok I would just keep it. Opening up a whole set of new potential problems if you swap it..

Need help to decide for a new phone

I am really tempted by this phone and as I live in the UK it falls into my budget of £300. However I have to keep this phone for two years and only root it after the warranty is void. I need ideas whether to buy this phone or find an alternative. I need your help and I don't need to decide till March
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda app-developers app
You won't find a better phone for your money, without any doubt, it's the best value phone on the market by a VERY long shot. However if you currently have a Wildfire, it's quite a big step up size-wise.. Make sure you are happy with that.. (It's smaller than a S3 thankfully).
I wouldn't worry too much about rooting, it doesn't invalidate your warranty. Not on the Nexus anyway, you can simply relock the bootloader and it's back to factory condition, with no evidence anything was ever changed... The warning screen only states it "May" affect your warranty.

Thanks I wouldn't mind a bigger screen. It also would be nice to have a HD screen coming from one that's Ldpi. I had to promise my Mum not to root it since then I would be glued to my laptop. Will it be future proof and how good is the battery?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda app-developers app
There is still plenty of activities going on with the Galaxy Nexus so that's a good indicator as to how future proof it is. Android is not future proof in my opinion, but Nexus is better than any other Android phones in this. Battery is not a beast. Won't last you a day if you use it very heavily, but should last a day under normal use.
Usually people got 3 hours of screen on time (note this is screen on time, not usage). With tweak you should be able to get it to 5. If you are not rooting then about 3. I rooted my phone and am not spending 10 hours every week on it. Once I have everything set up with CM and Franco kernel, it's a simple update once every day that takes about 10 min.
It really is a phone I would recommend for this price; I even paid a lot more since it isn't officially available here and I'm stil over-satisfied comparing it to the money I spent. I think it is also future proof indeed since the specs simply are high end and it will receive updates first . Don't worry about the size: I came here from a Galaxy Ace and you'll be used to it in no time. As said before battery life may be a little low, but if you do decide to tweak it that won't be a problem anymore either: I get 4-5 hours of screen time now .
I say run, don't walk, and order one. It's a great phone and blazing fast. Plan to use some of the cash you save to buy a case or protector or combination of both to save you some dings and scratches.
You come to a nexus forum asking what phone to buy.... Lol obvious answer.
But, either wait for the s4.
Or buy a s3 or n4 or note 2. All great devices.

He won't get any if those devices for a £300 budget, and the N4 is better than all of them (aside from s4 which is unknown but £500+ simfree)
The money you spend on a N4 means you only need to pay £10/month for a phone tariff because you have your own phone. It's the smartest way to do it. No lock in you can sell your phone and buy a something else whenever you wish, of market prices are right.

The reason I posted in this thread was that I wanted this phone but before buying I wanted to see what real nexus 4 owners say about it. Also I need to convince my mum to buy it for me (this will be the last phone I get for a birthday present) and she was complaining about it (is it reliable, is play store safe, etc.). I know that MWC is coming up in a couple of weeks but my deadline is March (My mum is adament, not before March). She wants the answer to this question: Is buying from the play store safe, and will it arrive?
Lol is the play store safe?! Have no faith in Google?

It's absolutely safe. It gets delivered by TNT, signed for. And the Google price is over £120 lower than Carphone Warehouse.
You won't find much an MWC with the Nexus4 specs, and the Nexus4 pricetag. (aside perhaps the Huawei Ascend P2).

Shoud be. I didn't order one through Play but it's directly via Google and they should handle it nicely. It may take some time to arrive, though.

100% safe !
They take the money only on the shipment, it's quite fast though !
And you can take a Nexus Blindly, you'll have the next versions of android on time, and many ROM to flash...

N4 will still be receiving updates directly from Google in 2 years. Devices with OEM skins will only be supported for 12-18 months
Just buy it, is really a no brainer..... you won't regret it especially on cost
I got the nexus 4. Thanks for your help. You can delete this thread now.

On to my third Pixel 2 XL in 8 days..... dang display

Got my first one from Verizon about 8 days ago and was loving it, well all except it being a Verizon variant that's locked up tighter than a banjo string. Anyway a couple days in I noticed it would take a few attempts for the screen to recognize my supple yet vigorous touches. Anyway, I saw the support option in the settings menu and called. The first number was disconnected or something lol, the second however sent me straight to Google customer care. I thought sweet they will take care of me. They had me do the usual reset, factory reset, stand on my head, close one eye and fart. Nothing worked so they said we will be more than happy to send a replacement..... But you must first send us your phone. I said haha hold on now pump them brakes. They didn't get the humor but anyways they checked and checked again and still said that would be the deal. I had them email me the shipping labels. While waiting for the bits to make their way into my electronic mail inbox, I pulled my head out and called ole Big Red. No not the larger lady in produce from the Piggly wiggly, Verizon. They were absolutely the most helpful that they have ever been... I was dumbfounded at how fast they had a phone coming to my hacienda. It was there the next day. Well low and behold the phone I got was straight from the Google machine making folks themselves. In all her glory, there lied an unlockable pixel 2 XL..... Yeeeeehaaawww. I got to reading and pecking at the keyboard like a liberal looking for a new fake news article about our president. Anyway, if you're offended it's ok. I found some great information about unlocking, flashing and rooting so away I go. Got it done, not without making some new friends on here and if y'all helped and are reading this, thanks again. I got it unlocked and finished setting it up before I put the Sim in. Fired it back up and good to go. Well, this morning this phone must've been feeling a little freaky because it flashed me. Not once or twice but not stop. Everytime it goes into always on it goes bananas flashing and flickering like crazy. Also, another problem is a larger dark spot about 1/2 inch tall and it is towards the bottom of the screen and reaches across the entire width of the screen. So 3rd verse same as the 2nd. Verizon has one on the way and praying it's another unlockable.

how did u have em exchange it when u are within your excellence guarantee??
I called verizon tech support and after they "verified" the issues they next day the replacement. They had me download the app that enables them to share your screen, but since my problems were screen related, they could not see the problem.

its because i got a brand new one at the store last friday.. since im within my 14day guarantee they replace with a new one in store.. she wouldnt send me a replacement due to this as the ones they send are refurbished

im just gonna keep this one and find a way to root it lol

if we can find the edl files for this phone we coud probably unlock it that way
Hmm. Either this coming Thursday or Friday is our 14 day mark so I don't understand why they wouldn't send one. I personally didn't care if it was refurbished because they are like new anyway.
I just got home opened the box and it is another unlocked phone....

Lol good luck. The warranty replacement phone my wife got today was unlocked as well. However, we are just returning it since she decided she wanted the note 8 last night. We have had some serious problems with these phones.... Sucks I was pumped really even with the Verizon variant but these problems have kinda put a damper on it. Well, that and the fact that rooting and romming just isn't as easy as it used to be. What a shock.

Sweet
I am currently on my 4th replacement, awaiting the 5th that is shipping today. Hang in there mate!
Returned them for all sorts of issues, mainly dealing with bad displays (botchiness, graininess, patches, dead pixels) and the last one I am returning because of bad and rapid battery drain. I've tried all possible troubleshooting steps.
I can't get Verizon to replace my phone for nothing.. took it to the store and talked to tech support.. they won't budge
