Grouper? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone simply tell me what Grouper is? For example with CM10, on the website Nexus 7 roms have the device name as "Grouper".
I'm interested into what this means? Google search was no help

It's the official code name for the N7.

Starting with the Galaxy Nexus, Google seems to have taken to codenaming their devices after types of fish popular in Japanese cuisine.
GSM Galaxy Nexus = maguro
CDMA Galaxy Nexus = toro
Nexus 7 = grouper

If memory serves, the Nexus S was herring.

Nexus s board is herring. Codename is crespo

Not just starting with gnex - the "common" Nexus S files were referred to as "herring" and I think "crespo" might be the name of some sort of herring-derived food. (Just like maguro and toro are tuna variants).

Whoops, forgot about the Nexus S.

google just likes fish, lol

Galaxy Tab GT-N5100 / GT-N5110

Hi Guys,
I am eagerly awaiting the next iteration of our wonderful device. (I currently have the P6800)
If the note capabilities are included in the next update, it would be awesome...
With that being said, I have been seeing postings with these 2 model #'s
GT-N5100 and GT-N5110
Perhaps a 3G and a Wifi Only version?
Do you think this is the update we have all been waiting for?
Anyone have any new information?
If the Galaxy Note 10.1 on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 are any indication its gonna look pretty ugly I bet

I would love a7" version of the note. Hope it happens soon
I think these two are for the Nexus 10

Nexus devices are never named "GT-PXXX", this is obviously a sammy device.
Nexus devices have always been named after aquatic stuff. (i.e : gnex = maguro --> a fish used for sushis // Nexus 7 = grouper --> another fish)
Plus I'm very doubtful there would be two different models of Nexus 10

Another nexus?

Afternoon, I'm aware this is the nexus 4 forum but...
Just saw something about Google kicking the xperia s Asop project out of its nest (whatever that means lol)
Now am I been a touch simple/hopeful,but could that be another nexus brand in the works?
Ie could the whole talk of multiple manufactures doing nexus devices have an element of truth to it?
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
I'm a huge Sony fan.
The only thing that's keeping me from buying the N4 is a coming Xperia Nexus or something.
Btw i don't think this is the right section for this post

That is what happend.
Nexus 4 - LG
Nexus 7 - Asus
Nexus 10 - Samsung
Sony was booted from AOSP because they wouldn't open some of their code, I think, and Google didn't want to maintain a non-Nexus phone.

No, in antutu, tests with a Nexus 4 (regardless of whether it was purchased in the play store or not) show up as "Nexus 4".

Is "flo" the codename?
I am trying to get some ROMs going on for this as I might buy one Wed but I am still confused as to what the device codename is.
I will search around some more though I guess.
I started to create a thread on this last night but figured I'd wait for someone else to do it. To make it easy on deciding, gather as many opinions on the official nickname as possible and after a pre determined count, take the average and hopefully enough people will recognize it as the 'nickname'.
My vote Nexus 7.2 (N7.2)

No, Nakasi (Wifi) & Nakasig (3G) are for the previous version of Nexus 7.
And if you go to the Google Git, you will see that the nickname is FLO => Google Git = android / device/asus/flo

Thank you! I just get weary relying on Google results, and prefer confirmation.
Last time I bought a device I just googled it and thought I was going to get a "Sunfire" (Photon 4G) but ended up with a "Asanti" (Photon Q LTE)...
Nexus 7 B
"My Next Device"
Yeah, who knows. I'd prefer a better naming convention. I'm sticking with Nexus 7 (2013).
I can see some confusing coming from this, especially when people start looking for accessories. I already read a Best Buy review where the guy mention how much his daughter loved the tablet he got her, but the hers doesn't have a rear camera.
Google's Support website refers to it as the "Nexus 7 (2013)" while last year's model is referred to as "Nexus 7 (2012)". For the moment, this convention seems reasonable, but I think calling it "Nexus 7 (2nd generation)" or "Nexus 7 flo" is equally clear.

I assumed it was, "Full HD", because of the 1080P display (1920 x 1200).

The first two are Grouper; the last one is Tilapia, if that's what you're asking.

Indeed they are!
I only recently discovered this myself, when I was at my local supermarket recently, and I spotted a huge sign, near the fishmongers, advertising tilapia as being on special offer for that day.
Tuna and Manta is sort of the obvious giveaway, but unless you're a gourmet, grouper (my Nexus 7), does not invoke anything 'fishy' to my mind... unless fastboot fails... at which point, I usually say '...something fishy about this...'.

Hi, SilverDragon24...
Well... 'grouper' Nexus 7 is WiFi only... whereas the 'tilapia' model is both WiFi AND Cellular (3G).
So.. you're going to be need to be close to a WiFi 'hotspot' if you buy a 'grouper' Nexus 7.
If you go for a 'tilapia' Nexus 7, you'll need a SIM card, and some sort of mobile data carrier plan (similar to a smartphone) for use when you're away from a WiFi router/hotspot.
Which one you buy, is dependent on your situation and you're needs.

Ged.

Or alternatively, you could get a 'tilapia' Nexus 7 and just use it on WiFi, until you can afford a SIM/mobile data plan...
Just a thought anyway.
